(Old) A Day Off in the MMP

Got a nearby cat you can blame?

So the power flicker was a bit more than usual, a quarter mile up the road was blacked out on the drive in. You never know how dark it is until there’s no light. The heaving was mostly uneventful, apart from them screwing up the package car parking on Blue 128, and me having to help sort that mess out.
And on the way out, I noticed we lost one of the small parking lot pines last night, too.

Me: < goes into bathroom >
Spot: < slams cabinet doors >
Me, coming out: “Go ahead, I am indifferent to your anarchy.”
Spot: < wails and cries >

Jesus saved them, “because whatever you do to the yeast of my brothers, that you do unto me”

That’s a half baked idea.

Its taken a lot of practice (and weed) to learn to just let him fuss and just do my own thing anyhow.

Today I’m going to get all of the laundry done and update the lap top. The work will start tomorrow but the foam spraying isn’t scheduled to start until Friday morning so I have plenty of time.

They will start tomorrow, so I’m hoping that by Friday morning he will have gotten bored with remotely supervising them. Usually I wouldn’t care, but the chemicals they will be putting into the air are pretty toxic and folks should avoid breathing them. The fuzzbutts won’t be back in the house until 24 hours after the work has been finished.

A case of canned meats might fit under your bed. Don’t stockpile anything you do not like to eat. If you hate Spam and buy a case to keep for an emergency, you are going to HATE Spam just by virtue of being forced to eat it. Canned chicken can be very useful, though.

I have indeed paid attention to what you have shared and I do NOT want him to get bit. I’ve been making him blouse his trousers and tuck his shirt in, but now I’ll just start spraying him down every time he gets in the grass.

They have the even more famous Snallygaster!

Here’s hoping you don’t have to boil your water, it takes all of the taste out of it.

Dang…too bad eggs are so expensive…

Not only does it not have any english involved, it also doesn’t have and Spanish and has no sounds that are anything close to the Asian languages I’m used to hearing.

Thanks for the suggestion. We still have a couple of whole birds in the back freezer and it is warming up enough to do one on the smoker. I’ll pull one out right now.

I think I’d just pass the fuck out. Right there on the floor. I might want to set the car on fire after I used it to transport him to the ER, who knows?

They let us do it. This means it didn’t matter to them. Just because there were no uniforms showing doesn’t mean the cops weren’t there, it just means that folks are too trusting and don’t know what to look for.

Now the the supremes have cleared trump to deport 'mericans to San Salvador, I’m guessing a lot of the folks who were holding signs have been identified and put on a list. While I wear a hair and face shading wimple, a white cotton face mask and big dark glasses, most folks were happily and proudly bare-faced.

I will continue marching, but I honestly think that the boycotts and tariffs backlash along with the tourist industry tanking is what is making a difference. We the people don’t matter anymore, it is the money that talks today.

And tomorrow is only a day away!

Oh how fun! I would have loved one of those for the AZ summers!

Thank you for the link. I’ve watched too much sci-fi (Alien, anyone?) to not squick out over something like that. I’ll bet Harry knows how to do it. Walking across the gully would be a lot cheaper than setting my car on fire in the ER parking lot.

We are sharing the low temps, it is in the low 30’s now. I just went out and pulled the big bin back to it’s home and really wished I had put my jacket on first.

Is this age related? Like how house cats tend to die of kidney disease because they are able to live long enough to have their organs start to tail? Cause it doesn’t seem like that would be an advantage to a young, breeding animal.

Poor tree. What is the red under it? A car? A cone to warn people to not park in that spot?

Nope, horsie teef get like that regardless of age. Even young ‘uns need dental work. Part of it is because they grind while eating, unlike us who mash up and down.

Today Ariel gets her monthly massage. I get mine Friday.

My upholstery fabric came today! The thread is coming today also. Tomorrow I sew.

For now, I chill in a clean(er) house.

i put on my pretty clogs for today. and then they started to feel “off” i just checked and big pieces are coming off the bottom. ack.

after checking on line, dansko and sanita clogs have a tendency for “blow outs”. dang it! i really liked this pair. i’ve had them for 12+ years soooo i did get my money’s worth.

so sad, the uppers are fine, looking great. from what i can see there isn’t an easy way to fix them.

bring back wooden clogs!!!

I looked this up, because I had never heard of teeth being floated. Or if I did, I immediately forgot. Is it really different that teeth being filed, because that’s how it was described in “All Creatures Great and Small”, if I remember correctly.

aka, the run up to Easter. When I was in children’s choir, the church organist, who was also the head of the church’s music department, had to work on Easter. Guess when his first child decided to be born? I think he made it for the actual birth, but the pastor did not let him off the hook as the organist did not make any arrangements for a substitute.

I love every bit of good news. Hurrah!

Yes! I had a pair my parents bought for me in Solvang, California. Bright yellow, like these (random link). I wore them walking to school, along with my corduroy pants. More than 30 years later, my friend who walked to school with me, remembers the clunking of the clogs and the swishing of the pants. Wouldn’t mind having another pair, but Birkenstocks are quieter.

My contribution to the air show (off) topic, is the Patrouille Suisse, which is the Swiss version. They’ve been practicing this week, so I had to apologize to my coworkers who had to listen to them - Teams isn’t that good at filtering out the noise.

They are performing nearby in June. And we’ll be here, so we can see them from our front (and back, depending on where they’re going) yard.

There seems to be quite a few mentions of bananas this week, so I might end up buying some myself. However, not sure the ant access has been properly located and blocked, so any fresh fruit is staying in the fridge. (I removed the excess diatomaceous earth and made sure there’s plenty near what I think is the entrance. It’s hard to get too, so a permanent block will be tricky. Also put down some poison in places where it won’t interfere with us.)

My weirdest dream recently was opening my link to the Straight Dope message board and being greated by a pastel page (pink with fat green arrows and yellow circles) telling me that Straight Dope was no more. :frowning:

Time to watch some more Grey’s Anatomy. We’re on season 5 and we’ve never seen it before. So we have a few more seasons before we catch up.

FCD is napping and I just answered, then hung up his phone. Caller ID gave a doctor’s name - Google says she’s at Vanderbilt University. The phone number was University of Maryland Medical Center. There was noise in the background, like a call center, so I hung up when no one responded to Hello. Pretty sure it was a scammy call.

Daughter called earlier - SIL went to the ER after a fall at work - not sure if it was work-related or not. Anyway, she may need me to fetch the kids. She’s supposed to call in an hour to let me know so I’ll have time to meet Roxy’s bus. Always something.

After yesterday’s gloom it’s been nice to see the sun today, but it’s only 46°F and not getting any warmer…and there’s a solid breeze making it feel even colder. There was actually a slim possibility of snow this morning (it didn’t happen), and there’s a freeze warning in effect for tomorrow morning: right about when I need to leave for work it’ll be all of 33 (I love my heated seats and steering wheel!), but the daytime high is supposed to hit a respectable 55.

I spent this morning – from 9am-12pm – in another training session. This one was an overview of both the company and customer org structures, and was actually pretty useful. It’s is a large and complex program, and has been on a growth tear as the customer switches from 40 years of being in maintenance/sustainment mode to actively developing some new systems and products. This contract is 360% bigger than my previous one, so it’s a bit of an adjustment.

I’m tagging up with my new boss at 3:30, but otherwise I’m on my own this afternoon (though I’m slowly being added to relevant recurring meetings). I’m still reading a lot of stuff, and continuing to review org charts and other reference materials. I think I’m starting to connect some dots.

I haven’t been able to do that since getting a dog 16 years ago. :joy:

Bailey has some age-related issues – hip arthritis, hind leg muscle weakness, some fecal incontinence – but all in all she’s doing really well for almost 17. She doesn’t see/hear as well as she used to but she can definitely still do both, and I’m soooo grateful.

Back when I could have beer, that was one of my favorites!

That would definitely take some getting used to! LOL!

There’s a scene in an episode of Torchwood – set in Wales – where one of the main characters is driving and on the phone with her boyfriend as she approaches the bridge to England, and she assures him that she’s been vaccinated. Every now and then I re-watch that show, and that line always makes me laugh (and then think “hey!”).

Have you ever discussed Welcome to Wrexham with them? If so, what do they think of it?

I haven’t watched that show yet, either. I think I watched the first episode once, a few years ago, but never continued (for some reason). It’s on my “someday” list.

OMG! I hope he’s alright! :crossed_fingers:

I’d suggest printing these two pages and taking them with hubs across the gully to have Harry do the squirmy tick removal:

As a nurse I know just how long and hard a job it is to kill off old wives tales and home-grown remedies, like nail polish, Vaseline, a smoldering cigarette butt to back ticks (chiggers, etc) out. These are simple, clear cut, unambiguous directions and they are face-saving from official doctor experts rather than the woman they sleep next to. Or, in Harry’s case, the woman who bakes cookies for him.

Pavo, we can hope that preparing semester finals is also a top priority for your students.
Cat Glove, your tick-bite link from the CDC has, as one of its methods of disposing with a live tick, “Flush it down the toilet.” Gad, won’t somebody think of the poor sewer gators?

Y’all are so funny.

And I found the yeast and made the worst tasting rolls that I’ve ever made. I’ve even used this recipe before so I’m not sure what the problem was.

Afternoon all. I have gymed some and am now getting ready to go coach 6 year olds in the art of soccer. Have read all but do not have time to answer fully so will get that done once I return home and am safely back in front of my computer with the usual bowl of Mac-n-Cheese in front of me. Catch you then.

It snowed today, I hope for the last time this season. Killed off my crocuses (croci?). Naturally it was snowing when we went to buy lumber. Now that I am truckless, the museum uses the town’s ride share program to borrow a pickup for these jobs.

FCM Hope SIL’s fall wasn’t too serious. And that the employer’s insurance will cover it.

Apparently SIL’s fall was yesterday and his boss made him get checked out today since it was at work. They did some scans and apart from a couple of things that “aren’t bothering him now, but maybe some day…” I dunno. Anyway, SIL’s home. I brought the kids and Trevor here, then Daughter came and had pasta with us before (shortly ago) departing. Tobias was throwing a major tantrum and I disagree with how Daughter dealt with him, but it’s her kid. It’s wonderfully quiet here now.

Guess I should get the dishes done and maybe get some bike time. Or not - I did get a workout cleaning today.

Did a hot water laundry load and hung everything on the line.
Filtered water.
Hubs Dr appointment went very well. His blood draw continues to yield better results little by little. She reduced the prednisone to every other day for 2 weeks then stop. And we only have 5 pills left that lower liver enzymes. She said to take those then stop as his reading for those is in range. She wants to see him in 3 wks as that will be one week after the steroid is stopped and she wants to see what the impact of stopping them is.

On the way home we stopped and bought 1 pack of knockwurst and 6 packs of pierogi, 4 of which are for my sister.
Once home I filled the pillboxes with 2 weeks of pills.
Then I paid my car insurance after first grilling the agent on why it’s increased so significantly.

Now I should get on the dishes.

Enjoy your evening.

I have finished educating the yoots* (I mean for today, not for good). Snarfing dinner, then on to rehearsal.

*18-22 year olds. AKA tiny little babies. When did college students get so young?

Howdy Y’all! Errands got done and sloth ensued. Leftovers got heated up and et. Big excitatement in da cave today! Plus I read more of the rivetin’ page turner.

Up from naptime, having a Manhattan and watching hockey.. It’s Redneck Stirfry night.

Cones, because somebody might not notice the giant green thing taking up their favorite parking spot.

That would be the one where I was in a Special Force unit with Rod Steiger as the unit sergeant, and Wynona Rider as the Intelligence officer, and head of the unit’s lesbian witch coven.

NEXT ON SYFY, METHGATOR VS. SEPTIC TANK TICK!

At least he’s better than “only mostly dead”.

Yay!

The 2 30-something sorters on the 100 Table refer to the 20something loader as “our baby”

@purplehorseshoe Hubs cousin just sent me a pic of her using a chocolate bunny (hollow) as a bong. She says it makes the weed taste great and when she gets the munchies she can eat the bunny. Tomorrow I am going to go my my own chocolate bunny! There are many pics online if you can’t visualize it yourself.

Which makes so much corporate sense!

I am so happy for both of you. You have worked so hard to get here, I sure do hope the progress to full health and remission continues well.

Our last freeze is supposed to be Monday but at least we aren’t expecting more snow. I just gave my car its 'winter is done, get all the salt off the undercarriage" bath. Well, Hubs did, taking care of the vehicles has always been his job even if I have to keep better track of what he’s doing nowadays.

Did the yeast package get damaged during it’s escape attempt? Bad yeast makes bad bread.

Oh boy, did Harry ever give me a lecture about that!!! The only way to get them out is with moonshine sterilized pointy tweezers. If he’s not home, we are to ring the bell and ask Mrs H to do it. Hubs won’t be the first man dropping his pants on her front porch and probably won’t be the last!

Mostly he said that we needed to stock up on DEET because we needed to use it every time we got close to the forest. Just listening to him made me all ichy and shit, this is NOT something I had planned for when I wanted to leave the desert for the forest. Deer, bear, mothman, squirrels…I planned for all of those, blood sucking ticks were never even thought of.

I was planning on going to the capital tomorrow, but the workers will be showing up in the morning and I might want to stay home and keep an eye on Hubs. I’ll see how he is in the morning. Poor Jolene is going to lose her mind because she will see all of the people in her yard and none of them will even be coming to the front door to say hello, they are just going to go to the back of the house and make noises under and over her.

GG will retreat to his cavern of solitude and pout. He highly disapproves of loud noises, not unexpected considering his big ol’ radar ears.
