(Old) A Day Off in the MMP

Thank you! For some reason, I always assumed the BA’s were air force. Do the Blue Angels hark back to the days when the air force operated under the navy?

No. But these might last me a year if I’m lucky. I do find myself wanting to stockpile food, bu the apartment isn’t big enough, and I have no freezer.

I’m off to bed.

Do look out for those. You know I’m much too aware of the dangers. It would suck if Mr Cane got the Lyme. Deet, lots of deet. Ankles, wrists, neck, basically anywhere they might get in. Waist, in my case, unless it dropped down the back of my shirt.

I skipped the museum party this evening, my talking to people reservoir was full. I only have so many words I can use in a day. Plus my back was getting angry with me.

The Air Force arose out of the Army Air Corps, established in 1947 (USAF).

… The Army Air Corps (AAC) was the aerial warfare branch of the United States Army from 1926 until 1941. It was later reorganized as the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) in 1941. The USAAF was the primary land-based aerial warfare branch of the U.S. military during World War II. The AAC was abolished in 1947 when the Department of the Air Force was established.…

My uncle flew for all three.

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 6c/42f with a predicted high of 15c/59f and cloudy. Weather app says “The fucking sun will come out tomorrow. Maybe. But a lot of fucking good that does you today.” Which explains why it’s sunny out there!

You should not go if you are sore and achy, you need to take care of yourself. You’ll be there in spirit!

Evidence of animals and not humans? Or perhaps you have a local variation of JtC’s Mothman?

I hope they can help you, and your eye soon feels better!

That will take some getting used to! I have lived in England and worked in Wales so my daily commute involved going to a completely different country while still being within an hour or so of home. No tax implications because it’s still the UK, but it’s weird to see the change in road signs where all the place names are in Welsh first and then in English (underneath, in smaller letters), and the stuff painted on the roads is all in Welsh.

Well done! Yes, it’s hard work but you’ll start to see the difference soon. One of my favourite Rockfit routines (Slow Ride, by Foghat) has 100 squats in it if you do it right  Fortunately we don’t do that with weights but even so, it’s enough!

My day off yesterday was busy but full of accomplishments so I am not complaining. I dropped 'im indoors at the station, did the grocery shopping, got the car washed, ditched my dollars and bought Euro instead, then came home and celebrated by vaccuming the floors. I also made a big pot of spagbol so that will be dinner for a couple of days and the excess will go in the freezer.

I contemplated doing the laundry, but I have to save some excitement for today, right? Yesterday’s other big job was to empty the bins and haul the biiiiig bin out to the kerb for today’s collection. It’s normal rubbish today so they don’t come round until later in the morning, at which point I will go out and haul the biiiiig bin back to where it lives.

My other plans for today aside from working, will be laundry and campus food for the rest of the week. I have a lunch date on Friday so I only need two lunches, and three breakfast tubs to see me through to the end of the week. I’ve already had one emergency meeting this morning, and I have another in about 10 minutes so just enough time to scoot off and make another cup of tea t see me though.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. The power is flickering, so I get to have the full Third World Country experience this week.

Good Mornin’ Y’all!! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 48 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 68 and N.O.S. We are havin’ the pre-Easter cool down. Next week temps will be in the normal for this time of year range. I need to run some errands this mornin’, so I shall. The rest of the day will be devoted to RDOS inactivities. Sup will be leftovers from last night’s sup.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas and bother, I suppose I must purtify and don attire acceptable for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. Oh woe!

Happy Tuesday Y’all!

Merrylande requires an inspection before issuing a registration and tags, and it’s a comprehensive going-over that takes a fair bit of time. Some counties have emissions tests, but not ours.

Perhaps this is a viable option:

When you post this, I want to ask what class you’re taking and why the final is late at night…

Can you speak any Welsh? I’ve heard it spoken in some TV shows and it’s definitely a foreign language. I couldn’t pick up on any part of it that seemed similar to English.

As for weird dreams, last night it was my mother coming to me with a fishbowl of tiny seahorses. She was all upset because they were having gay seahorse sex (yeah, band name!) That dream definitely pegged the weird-o-meter. And it was another stoopit wake up to pee/awake for a while/short second snooze adventure. But I’m up and fed and caffeinating. Dusting and vacuuming and floor mopping will occur, along with terlit scrubbing and general tidying.

If I still have energy and if the sun does come out as forecast, I may have another go at yard work. I got my mini-battery powered chainsaw that’s supposed to handle branches up to 6" in diameter. I don’t have anything that big, but there are several smaller branches that I want gone and I don’t like using the big chainsaw. So we shall see if that happens. Temps may not get out of the 40s, which sounds like indoor weather to me.

I’m thinking we’ll have turkey for supper - there are still several frozen hunks from Thanksgiving. I do so love my vacuum sealing gizmo!

Meanwhile, onward! Happy Tuesday!!

Read and did not retain - except for the above - of course!

I’ve just been working on stuff around the house. The kitchen looks better (organizationally speaking) than it has since we’ve lived here. Back to work here, soon.

Paintcharge, I’ve seen illustrations of grasping a tick with tweezers and pulling it straight out. I’ve never done it, but it looks really squidgy. I’ll take your word for it that DEET works for ticks. The following advice for warding off chiggers is mere folklore. “Dab some whiskey around your socks, cuffs, and collar. Chiggers can’t be boozers, you know!”

The Hands Off event had 5.5 million people, in all. Just in case that didn’t make the point, Indivisible says they’re doing it again on April 19th.

That’s all for now. Be well, be kind, and be You.

Happy Tuesday. Up, breakfasted, and on my second cup. It’s 34 and sunny out. We had a freeze warning overnight. It was 80 a couple of weeks ago.

Typical Tuesday for me. Teaching all day, rehearsal at night. The semester is rapidly coming to a close, so preparing students for their end-of-semester performance evaluations is top priority.

Someday I will sleep. (Someday is tomorrow.)

I suspect you already know the reference, hence the wink, but for you youngn’s out there, it refers to the last printing of the day’s newspaper before they start printing the next days paper. (It is also the title of a Science Fiction story by Eric frank Russell that I am rather fond of).

And IIRC male seahorses carry the young to term in their relationship. So your dream was just a bit off…

According to a quick google, the US Navy started the Blue Angels (per wikipedia) “They changed their name to the Blue Angels after seeing an advertisement for the New York nightclub The_Blue_Angel_(New_York_nightclub)), also known as The Blue Angel Supper Club, in the New Yorker Magazine”. They started back in 1946. The Thunderbirds did not come along until 1953, probably because the Air Force was jealous of the publicity the navy got from their Blue Angels.

Breakfast is done (Big Bowl of Cheerios and an apple) so need to complete waking up and see what the day holds. Nice looking outside but only 44F getting to 53F later, so may not have soccer practice, having the kids out in cool weather is not the best for them IMHO (or maybe not the best for me…) We’ll see how I’m feeling about it this afternoon. Otherwise a quiet day is expected.

Forward!

after many gloomy days the sun is shining. this prompted me to wear my “keep out of direct sunlight” shirt. we are in the mid 30’s.

back in the office today. will be in the cafe area refilling and restocking.

I don’t know which branch of the service I saw last summer in Chicago, but they were terrific. And I only saw them on their practice runs day while Bella & I were sitting on the Montrose Dog Beach. That’s definitely one thing that I will miss since our Daughter moved to Metro Detroit. One of my favorite things was to take Bella to Lake Michigan and walk along the lake (can’t say shore because the lake is about 12-15 feet below the grassy park area) watching the waves or the calm then going to the dog beach and just enjoying all the pups and wading along the shore.

JtC I don’t know how close you are to Wheeling but there is a Fish House that you can get alligator soup at. Looked it up and it’s Colemans Fish Market 2226 Market St. Minnesota Gov Tim Walz recommends it.

What to Do After a Tick Bite

We’re back in the deep freeze. It was 22* when I got up; it’s up to 26* now. Hope those flowers that have popped up make it through the next few days.

As mentioned yesterday, I ended up taking a 3 hr nap. Enjoyed the National Championship game up until the last few minutes. Houston was ahead for 38 min 52 sec but Florida caught fire in the last few minutes, caught up and won by 2 pts. I was rooting for Houston. Oh well. But the ‘One Shining Moment’ was pretty good, the Spartans were shown 5 times in all. I dvr’d it so I can enjoy again and again.

Since I took that nap, I only slept for about 3-1/2 hrs last night. This is why I typically do not take naps in the afternoon as it messes up with my night time sleep.

Going to Hubs Dr appt then will stop at the Sausage store on way home to buy some knockwurst and some pierogi.

Stay warm all of you in the northern climes.

Speaking of the Blue Angels (she says as she takes a break from cleaning) - they used to do an annual show in Jacksonville. One year, my desk was against a window that faced the runway, so I got to watch them practice - waaaay cool. And I don’t recall if it was that year or another, but we took our boat (first one we had, back in the mid-80s/early 90s) and anchored just north of the runway end.

In the pic, it would be at the bottom, just to the right of the land.

One of their demonstrations was coming straight down before pulling out of the dive and zooming along. We were almost directly under where they were diving. Slightly terrifying and way too cool for words.

OK, break over. Back to attack the kitchen floor.

Oh, and the hexagonal hangar is where I worked in my last active duty assignment. VP-45.

You win the junior chipmunk vet award! My vet (and most vets) use a power grinder instead of hand rasping. Horses’ teeth develop hooks and sharp points and these need to be filed down to keep the mouth and gums healthy, and to not interfere with eating.

Apparently all that vetting exhausted me. I went to bed at 6:30 last night and slept 13 hours with 2 bio breaks. I also had a nightmare involving the FOTUS and had to remind myself that sometimes a dream is just a dream (paraphrasing Freud).

I don’t speak any but I can pick out words here and there that I understand. I work with a 30yr old who was brought up in Wrexham and speaks fluent Welsh, and I have some Welsh-speaking friends. It’s an odd language to listen to!

Ok, which one of you stole my yeast???

I was all set to make some bread and it has disappeared.

A yeast deflection???

Sorry, closest I could come to a sorta rhyme.

Lunch break. The kitchen floor is clean and the kitchen has been reassembled. Next is dusting and vacuuming. Can’t wait. Yeah. Excited.

It must have been MusicMan because dear Annie wouldn’t do something like that!

The Yeaster Bunny!
