Thick cut oats nukelate just fine~they just aren’t pre~measured in a packet. The Bob’s thick cut Red Mill oats cook two minutes, then you let them sit for two minutes. Measuring is easy too~it’s a proportion of 2:1 water to oats, so pick a measure, scoop of oats, two scoops of water. Nuke 2 mins, set 2 mins, stir, add whatever, fill your tummy. I don’t mess with the salt. The package says a third of a cup of oats, 2/3rds of water (2:1). I like a slightly heftier portion so I do 1/2 cup:1 cup water.
A couple of Mumpers do savory embellishments to their oatmeal, butter, a fried egg. Hopefully they’ll pop in with their ideas.
Quinoa is so versatile too~make a big pot for supper as a side then the next day make the rest into a main dish salad for lunch. Some spare veggies cooked or fresh, whatever stray protein lurking on the fridge (chicken, salmon, beef, chopped eggs, pulled pork), a nice fragrant olive oil vinaigrette, bacon bits or shredded cheese or craisuns….
Heading out to get injected, then will trot home to do housework. The fridge cajoles me whenever I open the door, so will do that, too.
My dad, who was the breakfast maker in our house, used to say it “sticks to your ribs” every time he served us oatmeal. I’d sit in school and imagine my ribs festooned with oatmeal. I couldn’t figure out why something on your ribs would keep you from getting hungry. Kids are such literalists.
Aptly phrased!
Does Camilla know?
Swampy, so sorry about your friends’ son. How awful. I’ve said a prayer for you and them.
You can nukelate oatmeal. I’ve done it for years. The quick oats take 1 minute, the old fashioned, 2-3. The quick oats are actually faster than instant oats if you count heating the water. Oops! Ninja’d be Boo.
That sounds lovely. How like Roxy to decide on a European capital! My daughter married her classmate, both aged 8, on top of the jungle gym at recess. I was not invited but understand it was a lovely ceremony.
The RBC is still elevated, but slightly less so than it was. The test related to lupus is still processing.
Oh, many. One thing I love about dogs is that they treat you like an old friend even if they’ve never met you before.
Dr went well. She blew freezing air on the thing. She said it would fall off in a day or so. No biopsy done.
It just stopped raining so I will be off to get food items.
Wifey, RN had to sit on the floor when visiting a patient yesterday, and twisted her right knee. She’s calling the patients she was going to visit today and tomorrow and rescheduling them. She’s going to put one of those elastic braces on her knee, and take it easy for a couple of days.
Port side weathercloth is DONE!! Ready to be installed. I’ll get the starboard one done after I finish lunch. The thread I bought is great. Now, if only I had sharper eyes and more nimble fingers… I swear, trying to pick up the end of a thread is a Herculean effort! This aging crap ain’t for sissies!
I really need to make a packing list for this weekend. Better to think about what we’ll need ahead of time rather than while we’re tossing stuff in a suitcase at the last minute. And the biggie to remember: MIL’s and FIL’s ashes, since that’s the reason for this trip. Just a few minutes ago, FCD said he didn’t want to go. Yet he’s the one that wanted this to be a family trip.
He does that all the time - comes up with an idea. Then I make plans, arrangements, and reservations. Then as the time approaches, he says he wishes we didn’t have to go. I’m waiting for him to say that about our cruise. You’d think after 40+ years I’d be used to it.
I haven’t heard any roadwork today. FCD said all the equipment is gone - dunno if another crew will be coming in to finish or if they put their toys away because of the forecast rain. Not much we can do except be careful at the bottom of our drive - it’s torn up real good.
Busy heaving today, as Thursday is the new Wednesday. We had a leaker on the table at one point, and T yells out, “WE NEED AN ADULT!”. But it was an early day none the less. I did my Senior Day shopping, picked up 4 more bags of coffee beans, and some cannned goods, just in case.
Or he’ll spend the entire time in engineering, puttering around.
That’s not actually the worst marriage idea I’ve heard. Smart kid.
One pill makes you taller and one pill makes you small…
He’d love that if they’d let him. Unfortunately, even behind-the-scenes ship tours don’t go to any of the cool places. But if you want to see the laundry…
While I was sewing, I was thinking of starting a thread about standing ovations. Luckily, I did a search. Turns out, I started such a thread… in 2004!! No need to repeat myself.
Good morning (started working this at 11:59, so it counts).
Wednesday Wednesdayed. Choir rehearsal was reasonably intense, with holy week coming up. He wants next week’s rehearsal to be a bit gentler so we still have gas in the tank. We also have a weird situation with the organ; the sanctuary console is burnt out and apparently will take more than a year to rebuild. We can all go to the gallery, which is up three stories and at the back, more or less a literal block away from the altar (it’s a big church), but that comes with some sound problems and distances us from the cantors, who have to sing with us (and are all choir members themselves). So now we’re trying out having the organist playing from the gallery console with a video feed while we sing from our normal spot downstairs. Fun times.
Today is an afternoon of lessons, followed by dress rehearsal for the symphony chorus, which has a concert tomorrow.
The knee brace is helping The Spousal Unit’s knee.
Singin’ In The Rain is on TCM right now, and they’re doing the ‘Good morning, good morning’ number. It reminds me of the Oroweat commercials in the '70s.
♫ Good morning! Good morning! Life’s sweet with Oroweat Good morning, Good muffin, to you! ♫
I just read that as standing ovulations and wondered why anybody would start a thread about that.
Ack. That’s pretty serious. Did it just happen? My previous neighbor worked at a company that rebuilt organs in Switzerland. Pretty interesting work.
Hope the organist playing from the gallery works.
Somehow I was thinking this has to do with a dinosaur. Now I know, it’s a cat bed.
It’s been really dry here, and I’ve been ignoring the garden. So tonight I’m watering everything. As the time just went off I need to go move the water.
Afternoon all. Eye Doctor appointment is over, new glasses ordered and the C-word (not THE C WORD) Cataracts was mentioned but eyes are correctable to 20/20 without any other actions at this time. Doc is good at his trade but extremely chatty while I..am not…but I did my best to hold up my end of the conversation. Waiting for the dilated eyes to settle back some before heading to the gym for a couple hours. Up to 71F but thunderstorms are due this afternoon so soccer is in some doubt.
One of my neighbors dogs must be Schizophrenic, when he sees me he barks his head off and won’t let me approach but his tail is wagging a mile a minute like the friendliest dog alive. Me confused.
llyboy, hope wifey’s knee heals well and doesn’t need doctoring. Knees can be tricky things…and I see the news is good so far; best wishes.
FCM, packing lists are a must for me, and even so I usually end up forgetting something… And yay! for the sewing work.
And eyes seem to be managing better so off to the gym I go.
I’m glad you are getting the things done, even though they don’t sound like much fun at all.
Dogs tend to know things about people and it seems as though they all agree that you are one of the good ones. I think they are right.
She is so lucky to have landed with you, good foster homes are getting harder to find than ever.
That really sucks! I know he likes his job, but sometimes there is too much of a good thing. I hope his health doesn’t suffer over it.
You rock!!!
I have often thought about that option. Different states might not hurt.
I had no idea how complicated that sort of thing is, but it makes sense. Nothing great is ever easy, it just often looks that way.
Thank you for the feedback, I will put that on the list with the running wheel. It might happen, or it might not. Hmmmm.
I made a list for our stay. I forgot my sweater.
So, we are in our room. Jolene managed to get stuck behind one of the beds, but all we had to do was move the mattress and box springs to be able to reach her. She was back there for almost an hour because I am a mean mommy who said “she got herself there, she can get herself out”.
The window has a very wide sill and there is a gutter downspout outside the window. Birds like to sit on the curved part and complain when it is raining. It is so good that we have a room with a view!
I was thinking about walking over to the Lowes and browsing their garden shop but the rain changed my mind for me. Hubs actually left the house when they started spraying. I think the full hazmat gear on the work crew helped convince him that a day hanging out in a motel room wasn’t a bad idea after all.
while i am glad he decamped for the hotel… i am a bit suprised he doesn’t have his own hazmat gear.
it is grey and damp feeling in philly. it is making things greener.
i did think of you, jtc, on the way to work. the trees are getting that yellowish green look as leaves are starting to bud out. the more rain the faster they bud. we should be getting over an inch of rain this weekend.
Just back from the boat - I wanted to check something before sewing the second cloth. I got the info I need, but I’m going to put off sewing till tomorrow. I’ll be down there doing laundry anyway, so it’ll work out.
VERY windy and chilly at the marina - when we lived aboard, those were the days I disliked the most. Noisy and lots of rocking and pulling against the dock lines and you could never quite get warm - our boats were all to small to be well-insulated. But we’re home now and the pellet stove just fired up so it’s all good.
I pulled a couple of tuna steaks out of the freezer for supper. I’ll figure out sides later. But some chillage for now - guess I can make that list, too.
Hubs says it’s because the refineries have switched to summer-blend production which has to have less of lighter fractions like butane/hexane etc to prevent excessive evaporation. It takes more refining to get summer blend so it costs more.
Our daughter will not patronize restaurants/establishments that have homophobic prejudices. I respect her decision so I also will not eat Chik-Fil-A.
We use Bob’s Red Mill as well and also put in some oat bran and sometimes some steel cut oats. Hubs likes his with a little cinnamon and some tumeric. I use cinnamon and ginger. We both use 1/2 milk/1/2 water. He likes chopped pecans and raisins. I like chopped walnuts and blueberries and sliced bananas.
Woke up to a smattering of snow on the grass and roof.
Hubs’ buddy from the pinkie is down for a family baby shower on Saturday so he and his wife stopped by. The 3 of them went out to lunch. My tummy is a little upset so I didn’t go. Hubs brought home leftovers for dinner.
Watching the Masters. My guy finished at +1. The leader, Justin Rose, still on the course with 2 more holes to go, is at -8.
Got the shot. This is the third day in a row I’ve been to that office (labs, appointment, shot), so the staff knows me by name.
Dang. I forgot I have an appointment with the itch doctor (ting, tang, walla-walla-bing-bang). I’m still hoping to be able to self-inject the medication, so hopefully she can approve that. She’s VERY nice, which helps.
Aw, shucks. Thank you. Did I tell you my son-in-law wants a Maine coon cat? Daughter says no, as a) they’re already at mass capacity with two cats b) they’re pricey, and c) she’d rather read about G.G. than have to clean up after hi
It’s very simple: his front half doesn’t like you, but his back back thinks you’re great. The reverse can be true in some dogs: their front half loves you, but the back half engages in chemical warfare. That’s when it’s time for Stinkter Scents™, the easy way to turn silent-but-deadly into springtime medley. Just slip the loop to the base of the tail, and the floral-scented pendant does the rest. Available in Misty Lavender, Mountain Meadow, and Bowser’s Bordello.
Started looking into online passport renewal. It looks fairly uncomplicated, but unlike the SSA site, you have to upload a .jpg photo instead of using your phone to take the pic and send it. The SSA site then evaluates the photo and if it doesn’t like it, you can try again. With the passport, you don’t get that option. If they don’t like your photo, you get notified some weeks later and have to try again. Once I get mine done, then we have to work on the wife’s SSA confirmation and her passport renewal.
Today was the appreciation lunch for volunteers here at Walking Dead Manor. There are a surprising number of people who help out. Chicken lasagna, which was. . .odd.
Looking at warm weather heading our way this weekend.
