(Old) A Day Off in the MMP

Church dinner was sloppy joe and salad. I got one of each to go.
Really saving my food stamps this way.

It was so nice to work from home today. Whenever Bailey leaves me I’ll start going to the office five days a week, but for now it’s nice to have two days a week of “normal” while I adjust to the new gig.

It was also nice to be able to have Wegman’s delivered this morning: I was out of bananas, and I like their deli’s organic turkey sandwich – not for the “organic” part, but because it’s completely edible right out of the package (I don’t have to take it apart first and remove tomatoes, etc.). I can only eat half of one at a time: sometimes pre-packaged half-sandwiches are available, but whenever they aren’t I just eat the other half for dinner. Like I will after I finish this post.

After dinner I’ll finish building the Lego Ghostbusters firehouse…just one more bag to go.

Oh no! I’m so sorry. :frowning:

Biscuits with pieces of bacon in the batter? Slices of bacon between two biscuits? I need more info!!

I was well into my 40s before I realized that “quinoa” and “keen-wah” were the same thing. :joy:

A wagging tail doesn’t always mean a happy/friendly dog: wagging can indicate distress, anger, fear, etc.

Oh, sweetie, thanks for the implied judgment but Chick-fil-A changed those policies years ago. From Wikipedia: “In a [2019] interview, Chick-fil-A President Tim Tassopoulos said the company will stop donating to charities with anti-LGBTQ views. The company will instead donate to charities focused on education, homelessness and hunger. These new organizations could include both faith-based and non-faith-based charities, but the company said none of the organizations have anti-LGBTQ positions.”

There is no bigger advocate for the LGBTQ+ community than this cis female straight chick, who spent all of her 20s in gay bars because her lesbian then-BFF wasn’t comfortable in straight bars. Who has volunteered with the Whitman-Walker clinic, and gotten sunstroke at Pride events. Oh, yeah, and whose father is gay. I have boycotted Chick-fil-A in the past, but see no reason to do so these days. Heck, I know a current CfA manager who is gay.

Did it taste anything like chicken parmesan but with noodles…?

Supper was tuna steak, cauliflower parmesan, and canned peaches. Not really exciting, but we’re both full. The rest of tonight is dedicated to chillage. I don’t know if I’ll bike or not.

I input all the necessary addresses in the GPS so we can find our way to the places we want to visit in Gatlinburg. Looks like the plan is to leave here around 7 on Sunday morning. FCD hates driving on non-interstate roads, so we’ll go down toward Richmond via US301 and I-95, then pick up I-64 to I-81. I’d rather go thru western VA a bit, but it’s not worth the battle. Besides, his way saves 3 minutes!!! Actually, probably more for Mr. Leadfoot.

What’s that? Is it my recliner calling? I believe it is…

Howdy Y’all! We got ambitious and cleaned out two cabinets. One now holds stuff we use and the other stuff to be disappeared. Think I’ll put word out to a few folk to see if good homes can be found for some good but used appliances, dishes and utensils. We needed nappage and then had burgers, fries and beerverages.

Got the details for Lucas’ funeral today. It will be on the 22nd at ten a.m. with a reception/N.O.L. after.

Oopsie I know about IckFilA’s policy change. I don’t eat there chikin cause it tastes ick to me. Hence IckFilA.

Me, too. I never understood the lines clogging traffic. At best, it’s a mediocre chicken sammich. I actually rather enjoy McD’s 4a combo. At least at our McD’s it’s 4a - dunno if that’s a national designation or not.

I feel the same way about Krispy Kreme. Greasy, over-sugared, just not good. Does anyone make good donuts any longer?

Good day for building stuff at the museum, bad day for future news. We got termination letters for 2 different IMLS grant projects. Fuck that orange bastard, and his weirdo buddy. I have no idea how this is going to impact my continued working there, I’m still in a vague probationary period that is supposed to end in 3 weeks. After that, if things were normal, I’d be fully hired on.

FCM Krispy Kreme donuts are good when just cooked and still warm. The one near my apartment when I lived in NC had a neon sign that proclaimed when they were fresh. After that, yeah they’re kinda gross. My local, small chain, grocery store does some good donuts.

Curiously tasteless and really needed salt.

So sleepy.

Annie’s vet visit went well!

It is literally a thermal burn, it’s just cold rather than hot. Another form of cautery.

Up from naptime, watching hockey, and having a Royal Hawaiian. Crab cakes for dinner.

That’s why I stick to Bojangles.

Then he strunk your head?

Well, Gordie always thought his back end was Other Dog, so that’s believable.

Them’s fighting words!

Yay!

Oh, dear. I really hate to be the bearer of bad news, especially for someone who’s such a staunch advocate for LGBTQ folks. Also, I definitely don’t want to upset anyone, so I’ll spoiler this.

While the COMPANY doesn’t donate to anti-LGBTQ programs, Dan Cathay, the scion and billionaire CEO of Chick-Fil_A, definitely does. Cathy is heavily involved in and is a contributor to the National Christian Charitable Foundation (NCCF). The NCCF has been a staunch opponent of the proposed Equality Act (would expand civil rights protections to sexual preference and gender orientation) and according to Wiki,

Between 2015 and 2017, NCF distributed $56.1 million to 23 organizations designated as hate groups by the Southern Poverty Law Center.[10] Most of these organizations opposed LGBT rights; some were anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim.

I know many people order Chick-Fil-A with a clear conscience, but I recalled reading about Cathy and his family. I apologize for jumping in, especially on a topic that’s sociopolitical.

I found this out the hard way.

Well, he had to get a microscope to find it first.

This cracked me up. I know I’ll be giggling when I lie in bed tonight.

It seems our ‘Date Night’ has moved from Fridays to Thursdays. Tonight we went for Mexican food. I started with hot wings. We had fish tacos (grilled, not battered and deep-fried). Mi Esposa ordered a cup of refried beans, and I dipped some chips in it. Two grande Cadillac margaritas each. Yum.

Hurray! I hope your mom’s did as well. Sleep well!

I have been boycotting Chik-fil-a both because I don’t like fried chicken (they do make good waffle fries and mac and cheese, though) because they fired my BFF’s daughter and accused her of stealing money. BFFD almost went to jail until BFF got a lawyer to subpoena the the cash register camera evidence where it was learned that the franchise owner’s son was the culprit. No apology was ever made to a young person who’s life was almost ruined.

So...I don’t like fried chicken and I’m mad at one franchise owner back in AZ. That’s good enough for me, I treasure my grudges and rarely give them up.

They really are wonderful cats and most of them are very smart. GG thinks you don’t need to be smart when you are handsome so there we are. If your son ever comes into money and is able to get one, please warn him to be sure that the breeder can show proof that there isn’t heart disease or joint issues in the blood line. MC’s are known for congenital heart disease that can be tested for, but the testing is pretty pricey and many breeders won’t test unless one of their resident cats starts showing issues.

He also has to be aware that most cat stuff is not made for the giant breeds. Cat trees sturdy enough for a giant breed is kinda pricey as well. When you see the tattered legs on the trees in my pics, know that all of those trees were bought after GG came home. He tears them up which is just great in our opinion. We would much rather he uses his trees than our furniture or water bed!

So, it is getting late and Jolene is still on a sleep strike. She is refusing to sleep here and has been awake since we got here at 0810. We can tell that she is really feeling it and GG keeps trying to get her to curl up with him but she is just too stubborn. When she finally goes to sleep, she’s going to sleep very hard.

I’m sorry for your friends’ loss. Their son sounds like he had many struggles.

I nukulate old fashioned rolled oats (1 part oats, 2 parts water) or steel cut oats (2.5 H2O / 1 oats) on a regular basis. 3 minutes for rolled, 6 for steel cut. Quinoa is a good side when fixed a number of ways.

You can do this in the rice cooker too.

So I’m not the only one.

Now, if the hot light is on, there is nothing better than a classic glazed.

Irked, got ready for this weekend’s cycle count in my primary area and am knackered. My cow-orker accepted a specialist position in one of our new departments, so will be training her replacement for a couple of weeks. The position that I applied for is now unavailable. There were two positions open, one backfill and one new. They decided that they needed neither and took the postings down. The supe for that department is PO’d and expressed interest in having me interview.

Right now, the hip is screaming. I may have to make a doctor’s appointment earlier than the one in May to see what is going on there. This getting old ain’t for wimps.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Not perfect, but not bad for 118 or 119 years old.

And a good evening to all. Soccer got called off early by the Parks, one of the rare times they made a good call, by 6pm it was pouring buckets outside. Got my gym time in and came home and grilled some ham-n-cheesers with two pudding cups for dessert. And now browsing the internet for awhile before doing some more reading and heading off to bed. Temperature is down to 55F and is due to be cooler for the next few days.

And now to peruse the thoughts of my fellow Mumpers…

JtC, glad Hubs displayed some common sense, even if Jolene didn’t (curiosity/cat).

FCM, happy recliner time!

nellie, hope you don’t have to go for 4 in a row…

I understood that reference; I expect most of us geezers did. Thanks for the big grin on my face.

Cookie, sounds like a pain, I think the last time I renewed my passport I just mailed it in and got it done (it’s good until 2032, so we’ll see if I still am good by then…)

Oopsie, thanks for the Info on Chick-fil-A. I am not a chicken eating person, but I have avoided them in the past, may have to see what they have to offer. And now I’ve read nellie’s notes and am confused again (normal state for me-but I won’t miss what I’ve never tried, either)

From the picture it’s a couple slices of bacon between a sliced biscuit. But I like your other idea too.

VanGo, appendages crossed that things work out. And musuem funding is such a relatively small amount for so much good. IMHO of course.

I usually get warm to hot Krispy Kreme, but won’t buy them from the grocery store.

Or to borrow from a SF character “she held grudges until the subject died and then had them stuffed and mounted on the wall”.

red, hope the hip diagnosis will relieve the pain.

And just glanced at the clock and it’s after 9pm so need to be thinking about sleepage soon. Take care all and see you on Firday.

Chicken thigh just came out of the oven. Lotsa buttery juices to soak up with a roll, then I’m going the hell to bed.

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 9c/49f with a predicted high of 20c/68f and mostly sunny. Weather app says “No guts, no fucking glory, or whatever. It’s not my fucking fault that you sit on the couch eating fucking chips while the sun is shining.” Bit harsh, right?

If she asks, I’ll tell her she’ll have to fight Muffin for the title, and I know who I’d be betting on!

Good plan, I hope she feels better soon.

Since when did that ever stop us?

So true - our rescue is bursting at the seams, we keep asking for volunteers to foster for us but get very little response. 'im indoors said we always get the broken cats…I told him that’s just the nature of rescue cats

I use oats for my campus breakfasts. I leave home early and really don’t want breakfast at 6am so I bring it to irk and eat it when I get here. I mix my oats with a scoop of chocolate protein powder, some chia seeds, a scoop of creatine monohydrate, cinnamon, a tablespoon of milk and three tablespoons of Greek yogurt, and topped with raspberries and blueberries.

I’m keeping everything crossed for you, and still hoping that this madness ends sooner rather than later.

Hurrah! I hope that helps you both get some decent sleep.

Last night was uneventful - I got home in good time and tended to the mogs, Muffin had plenty to say for herself. 'im indoors incurred the wrath of the Travel Gods as all the trains from his end of the country were cancelled, delayed and generally messed up. Between us, we found an alternative route that got him home two hours later than usual, but it also meant I didn’t have to go and pick him up from the station because he arrived way past my bedtime.

Got up and sheveled this morning, Muffin was in the opposite corner of the room to her usual hiding place but freaked out when something fell over near her. She scratched and bit me, then disappeared off to the other corner where she’s been hiding. She growled at me a bit more, then allowed a few seconds of fuss. 'im indoors is around today so I’ve suggested he goes and spends some time with her.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.

Strange cats living in bed and distributing hairballs is no basis for a system of government! - Dennis the Peasant

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 56 Amurrkin out and rainy, which will end soon, with a predicted high of 73 and N.O.S. We shall get shorn this mornin’ and then be bears who brunch at Pearly’s. The folks that bought Pearly’s from the original owner have done a great job of keepin’ it the same, so the food is still just as good. The rest of the day will be spent in RDOS inactivities as is our wont.

Now I need more caffeine and I suppose I must purtify myself and don attire acceptable for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. How I do suffer for my public!

Happy Firday Y’all!
