(Old) A Day Off in the MMP

Last night was quite the wild weather night here in no. Illinois. I’ll preface this by saying O’Hare airport has had 10 inches of rain since March 1. That’s a LOT OF RAIN. Yesterday was sunny and maybe 70. Nice day. Then it all fell apart. Madison Wisconsin and surrounding areas had tornados. Rockford/Rockton Illinois had at least one touchdown. I’m in Kane County which was the only county without a tornado watch/warning. I spent the evening with WGN News on the tv and the iPad on my lap watching Max Velocity on YouTube. Texts between my friend near O’Hare and I were back and forth. Ursala Kitty was unbothered by all this and slept on the couch. I don’t have a basement so my powder room under the stairs is my safe space. Fortunately I did not have to shelter there. Things weather wise quieted down around 10pm.

Today is partly cloudy partly sunny windy and cool.

I made deadpig strips (keeping warm in the oven), and have mixed up some cackleberries that I’ll scramble shortly. I didn’t know if The Spousal Unit would want any Tabasco®, but I’d get it out. Huh? There isn’t any? There’s some Tappey’s, though.

ETA: Whoops! There is a bottle. I’d put it on a different shelf, since the hot sauce shelf was full. It’s my ‘positional locating system’ expected it to be one place, and I didn’t see it in the next shelf down even though it was literally front-and-center. (Same thing happened with a glass of water last week. My wife moved it to another counter. I didn’t look there. It was just not where it was supposed to be. So I got a new glass. She was like, ‘How many glasses of water do you need?’

Most of the bad weather missed us, thankfully. As mentioned, we had rain and graupel, and then later some small marble-sized hail, briefly. In the 30s today (thanks, Canada!), but warmer weather is on the way.

My daughter was supposed to come over today, but has begged off again with a “migraine”. I put that in quotes, as I never know which version of the truth she is telling me. She’s been like that since she was a child. She’s also a bit of a hypochondriac.

The wife is still complaining of pain in her arm. Hopefully her niece will urge her to see the doctor, as she won’t listen to me.

All puzzles successfully tackled and breakfast consumed. Onward.

I’m leaving it to their parents to wrangle everyone - I’m just providing the room. And yard. FCD is filling Otis pits and I just changed out the baby swing on the swingset.

And I got pulled away to do some more stuff, but I’m back having lunch. Decorating continues. I closed up the house and turned on the air because it’s getting warm and a bunch of body heat will make it warmer. Two anna half hours to go…

I have decided that our family dinner will be downstairs - no sense in messing up the dining room when the basement will already be a mess.

I never learned to walk in them either. When my uniform required them, I got the shortest permitted. These days, it’s Skechers all the way!

After a bit of a breather, I need to rope off the rotted deck to keep kids off of it. We need to take it down - we’ve been saying that for months. But, yanno, boat stuff…

Good morning, everyone! My neighborhood dads’ gaming group was over last night. All the accessories for my gaming table had arrived, and I hadn’t hosted in a while, so I did. Mrs Magill wasn’t here, but her presence was felt, as I had made sure there were snacks and drinks galore available. New table. We played Brass: Birmingham, which is like Ticket to Ride, but with more fiddly bits.

Chloé and I walked this morning. Then I had some leftover cold pizza for breakfast[1] I just got back from putting out Class of 2026 signs in some seniors’ front yards, and will jump in the shower.

The Karen Bob had been returned. I reckon I need to bite the bullet and hit the wig shop, so a real stylist can assist me. I know I wouldn’t be the first pre-transition transwoman[2] they will have seen, but I’ll still like it.

Don’t. I’m still looking for solutions for thinning out my arm hair that don’t involve going completely hairless. Hairless arms look odd.

I love the food truck fest. We used to have a food truck that made the best beef bourguignon. I don’t think they’d survived the pandemic. :frowning:

Lesson for today - Keep a pair of flats in the car for driving.

  1. If only I had some flat beer, I could have completed the college kid experience. ↩︎

  2. Another first. It’s still not easy to type, much less say. ↩︎

Bleach and hair thinning shears.

I’m too busy to do anything during the week. Saturdays are for chores, and Sundays I have to go to church. Today I’ve made breakfast and started the dishwasher. Later I need to go to CVS to pick up a prescription, to the dollar store for quart-size zip-top bags, to the supermarket for my Sara Lee Delightful bread, down to Bellingham to get Tillamook medium cheddar from Costco and bacon from Chef’s Store, and I don’t know what else. The Missus wants to put seat covers on the ‘new’ car’s seats, so I won’t be able to run it through the car wash. Maybe tomorrow before church. She ‘asked’ me if I would mow the lawn today. No rest for the weary!

Yeah, I have to do the first lawn mow of the season. Let’s see if the mower starts.

Ours is a Toro. For the first start of the season, it may take a few pulls. I should get it out of the shed and into the sun.

My. God. That’s just crazy enough to work.

It is an imgur thing. I will post it to FB in a minute

It’s rather fruity. I first tasted it with Grey Goose, so that’s what I bought. I had troubles finding Chambord, but I finally bought some in March, so I just needed the pineapple juice. Might try making one next week - today was busy.

All it takes is 2 ounces of your favorite vodka, ¾ ounce Chambord, and 1½ ounces of pineapple juice combined with ice in a cocktail shaker, which is then chilled and strained into an equally cold coupe glass.

It took ten pulls on the cord to start the mower. Last one caught at the beginning of the pull, and I was yanking hard. Felt like I sprained my wrist. Got about halfway through the back yard, when SWMBO told me to come in and put on my knee brace. I guess she could see that my knee was hurting. I also put some K-tape on my wrist. It usually takes 45 minutes to mow both lawns. I don’t know how long it took today, but it was longer. Wifey said we should have Felipe (who used to mow my lawns when I first moved up here 20+ years ago) mow the rest of Summer.

I told her that I didn’t know if I’d have the energy to get all of my other chores done today. She said she’d pick up my prescription and do to the dollar store… if she can drive the Prius. She says she likes driving it, but she hated driving the 2005 one. She told me to skip all of my other running around.

I moved the dishwasher back to its place. I’ll have to put dishes away in a bit. And I need a shower and to do three loads of laundry. Planning on salmon pinwheels for dinner tonight. I texted She, in case she wants to puck up some yellow squash. Otherwise we have canned corn or canned green beans.

As is our push mower… It took quite a few pulls, but I got it going while FCD rode John Deere around the yard. I did the few areas where the riding mower wouldn’t go.

The party has begun, so I’m hiding upstairs. OMG, are those kids NOISY!!! SIL’s mom is running late - yesterday was her birthday and someone arranged a surprise for her today, not knowing she had her granddaughter’s party to attend. I’ll venture out when she arrives.

I think one of the best parties my daughter did was having everyone meet at a playground. She’d commandeered a couple of tables and the kids ran around playing before having cupcakes. It worked well. Especially because no one had to clean house!! With luck, the most I’ll have to do is rollsuck after they take all their stuff home.

Glad I’m not hosting, tho. I can hide up here without guilt!

Checking in. Saw some dolphins today and booked my tours for the rest of my cruise so that kept the day interesting. Ship is leaving the dock about 10pm or 45 minutes from now, so may go up to watch our departure. So far I can hearitly recommend visiting Portugal and Spain, so much beautiful scenery and nice people (the pedestrian is king here, cars always let them go first). Will be out on the Med cruising tomorrow so probably out of touch.

FCM, glad the birthday went well and boy do I have some ship pictures forthcoming, if you plan on getting a bigger boat someday.

And to all my fellow Mumpers, take care and I’ll be back with you soon.
.

The mower started on first pull! Got the back and side done. I really don’t care about the front, and it grows much slower than the rest.

Ms Peach has figured out “out” with the doggie door, she hasn’t gotten “in” yet. So I hear flippety flap, then after about 5 minutes “Yarp” at the door. Baby steps.

The guests have all departed and it’s much quieter. I’ve got the beans baking and in half an hour or so, I’ll heat up the sloppy joes. I did a quick rollsuck downstairs to get all the cupcake crumbs sucked up - don’t need ants, I don’t.

For not being the host, I’m beat!!

I started on the 100/200 Slide. then I was bounced between the 300 Slide and the 200 Table. then the one label printer crapped out so I was running totes of urine to the front station to do the data entry. Luckily there wasn’t a lot of damages and rewraps, so I was out just before noon. it was 64 degrees Ferret Height(17.778Centepedes when I went in, it was 91 Ferrets(32.778 Centipedes) when I left. I am now on vacation. I started it by doing laundry and having bacon and eggs. Watching hockey and having a Vieux Carré currently.

Would it be unethical to wish to combine the two for a trolley problem exercise?

Sounds like the Venn Diagram of “Hearing Aid” “Blue Hair” and “False Teeth”

Well the Chuck E Cheese in Raleigh is in the shopping center with a Dollar Tree, hourly motel, and the nail salon next door that got raided by the po po one afternoon. YMMV.

Glad it was a good trip.

Gin and games? I’m in.

Better than Maggie Wonderbeagle. she couldn’t figure out how to walk through a door that was on 85% open.

We have aunts

Whelp, the county essentially canceled the London trip. There is apparently a backup plan.

Also I realized, I very likely took out my last contact last night.
