(Old) A Day Off in the MMP

How rude!

(And don’t call me a whelp!)

Everyone is gone - our house is ours again. Otis is home. Dishes are done. Trash is out. I am exhausted!

I want ice cream, but I’m too tired to go get any. Chillage will have to do.

Glad the party went well.

What? None leftover from the party?

Muffins are baked and the spice rack refilled and cleaned. It’s raining now and the cold front has moved in.

We replaced all the grass around our house in Portland with soil and plants. When the last section was finally done, I gave my electric mower to the crew doing the work. I never regretted getting that done, and the yard looked so much better and so much less boring.

Howdy Y’all! We lounged at the cee-mint pond, achieved nappage, day drank, and et sammiches. Now that is some hardcore RDOS! All this talk of mowage is just about to make me consider feelin’ guilty for not already havin’ done so. It will be a little cooler the first part of next week, so maybe I will motivate. Or not. I do have to have a colonoscopy on Thursday after all.

Glad all your midwesterners escaped the awful weather! We need rain but don’t need ‘naders.

I know there’s other stuff to reply to but I can’t brain right now. I shall attempt to do so tomorrow.

A quarter 'til five, and the salmon pinwheels are in the oven. I’ll hold off steaming the yellow squash, as I don’t want them to get mushy.

Socks, T-shirts, and underwear are washed and folded. Shirts and trousers are in the dryer. Just a small load of whites (T-shirts; I seem not to have worn a white shirt this week) to do.

I got myself a glass of red plonk. The Spousal Unit made herself a bloody Mary. I think I’ll finish this wine and have the same.

The Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 soundtrack arrived. I’ve put it into the CD changer in the Prius with Volumes 1 and 2.

I was watching “Ryan hall y’all”. The pictures last night were wild.

The usual shopping trip this morning. Then there was a panda fest at city hall, went there for a bit.

I’m glad you survived the party fairy chat mom.

Trying to figure out dinner for next week, with my new schedule. We have some pot roast leftover from last week; and of course, there’s still Easter ham that I’ve been trying to get through. I think tomorrow I’ll make baby back ribs (from a deadpig, not a human baby) and coleslaw. I got the spare meatloaf out of the freezer and put it into the fridge. Once thawed, I’ll put it in a loaf pan and cover it with foil, and all Mrs. L.A. (who is not a cook) will have to do it put it into the oven and let it bake until it’s done… and put some tomato sauce on it. I usually make potatoes au gratin to go with it, but we have a can of Italian-cut green beans and a couple of cans of corn in the cupboard. One of those will do.

I’m being sad tonight. Over 27% of the migrating Purple Martens died during that cold snap in TX last month, ours included. We kept watching for them, but Harry broke the news today. Its going to be years before their population recovers, if it ever will.

Do you buy them premade (and if so, where?) or do you make 'em yourself (in which case, recipe/guidelines, plz?) I like salmon & needed a new snack in my life.

Did they let you pet the pandas? :panda:

I got home slightly before dark  and since it’s been so rainy lately, poor Monkey has been cooped up, so I put on his glow-in-the-dark jacket & let him go roaming for a bit. It’s chilly enough that I doubt he’d wanna play hooky for long …

… in fact, he just came back in seeking attention & scritches. Still glowing bright blue. I friggin’ love that harness.

Spring weather is so weird; it was warm enough the other day for me to consider waking up Coolio (my window A/C) and today I set a reminder to bring in my plants tomorrow since there’s a freeze warning for Sunday night.

Finally, I would like to register a conplaint with management.

My right knee started aching something fierce several days ago, out of nowhere - literally woke up like that. As my knees have never sustained an injury and have been relatively trouble-free to this point in my life, I assumed the pain would abate after a day or two.

NOPE! Still hurts. An ache deep in the joint that no amount of massage or gentle flexing helps.

This gettin’ old shit sucks. I want a refund on my membership subscription.

My life is still controlled by critters. Cat Lady keeps asking me to go up 3 times instead of 2 because her friend can’t/doesn’t want to go. Miss Kitty (You may recall her from Gunsmoke.) is always happy to get petted, but she is, after all, a cat and therefore would probably prefer more alone time. Oh, and Cat Lady also talks to the kitty several times a day via the camera. She texted me(The person…cats only text by walking across a phone) today to tell me she’s having a hard time being separated from the cat (the person, not the cat). Someone needs a tranquilizer dart.

I had a psych eval yeasterday morning. Don’t breathe a sigh of relief, though, as I’m still running with scissors–OK, pinking shears. (I’m a pinko.). The company that makes the device to be implanted in my back requires a psychological evaluation. It was short and pro forma. I lied and said I’d never suffered any sexual assault or emotional abuse. I’ve been to therapy and am as beyond it as one gets with these things, and I didn’t want there to be some sort of delay while I get evaluated by a trauma specialist.

My daughter’s husband’s affair baby was born on April Fool’s Day. Of course, they gave her a “unique” name. Think of a star that suddenly increases in brightness and then fades. Or a Chevy popular in the 60s/70s. I wish her well. She’ll need it. My daughter went to see the attorney and is feeling more upbeat. She still badly needs a job. [Shakes fist at idiot politicians who cut funding.]

Molly, I’m highly impressed by your venturing forth. That took chutzpah. You did right to return the wig. Don’t be a Karen, be a Sharon (Stone)!

Oo! Cat lady can’d bear being apart from her cat and is returning tomorrow evening! That’s fine, as I’m getting bushed for some reason.

Dammit. Phone.

Pre-made from Trader Joe’s. I preheat the oven to 400º, line the baking pan from the old toaster oven with foil, spray it with PAM, and bake them for 23 minutes. Consistently good. I do think, from time to time, about making them myself. I’d use this recipe or something similar.

Party food included cupcakes, capri sun pouches, gummy snacks, and assorted chips. No ice cream. Alas.

I didn’t mention - the sloppy joes were good - no leftovers. The beans came out really well - maybe a cup leftover. The cole slaw was awful and it all got dumped in the garbage. Dunno what I did wrong, but it was really wrong.

Tomorrow is supposed to be rainy all day. I know FCD wants to work on the boat - I’m going to try to persuade him otherwise. He really needs to take a day off. Today didn’t count as he mowed, then filled holes in the yard.

But that’s for tomorrow. It’s after 10 and I’m pooped. Off to dreamland, or a reasonable facsimile thereof.

Mrs Magill and Squeaky just got home from their college tour. Squeaky liked UK better than Purdue. Mrs Magill like Purdue, because that school finally fed them. Seriously, if you’re going to have an all day open house, at least provide dining hall vouchers. Alabama Huntsville is still his number one, though he like Lexington, the city, better.

I never did like sloppy Joes, even when I was in the single-digits. In elementary school, I disliked Sloppy Joe Day in the cafeteria. I think I’ve mentioned I’m not into sweets.

With the exception of a strip of dog grass, my sister made a New Orleans-style garden / patio of her back yard. The strip in the front gets done for $20 a pop by the next door neighbor, so she doesn’t own a lawn mower either.

Sweet flavors have their place, but not IMO on meat. I also have texture issues with soggy bread (tends to trip the gag reflex), so I really don’t like Sloppy Joes.

Sadly, no actual pandas at the fest. There was a panda mascot with whom people took pictures.

Nellie, I can’t believe the child arrived on April fool. That is amazing timing.

Yeah, @nelliebly everything about that was hilarious to those of us not directly emotionally involved, especially the not-so-subtle hints for the name.

I have spinach dip in the freezer and reeeeeeally wanted pita chips to go with - and what Shoe wants, she gets, even if it is damn cold out - so I headed out once Monkey was safely inside, and oopsie how did those mini butter croissants jump into my basket, oh dear.

There’s also some avocado in the fridge (Haas, plus a fresh lemon to make my childhood favorite sweet pudding) and I found some onion-stuffed frozen pierogi tonight, too, so once I snuggle with the warm kitty hugging my thighs & spark up this doobie, I have lotsa fun treats from which to choose.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 66 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 70 and cloudy. Weather be weird. It will warm up again tomorrow. The big item on today’s agenda is deheathenization in which I have Chalice duty. I wasn’t supposed to, but the one scheduled has covid, one has a hurt back, and one is out of town for irk, so I agreed. We will get some kind of McLunch to bring back to da cave to eat.

I am not a fan of sloppy joes, but I found a recipe with a mustard base that is way less sweet. I can handle that. It’s pretty much ground beast, onion, and mustard based bbq sauce.

MOOOOOOM glad the party and the family dinner went well. Hopefully FCD will take the day off.

JtC that is sad about the purple martens. Sis had mentioned that she hadn’t seen any yet. I’ll tell her about this.

Nellie it’s always nice to have one’s sanity somewhat confirmed on occasion. I think you have a psycho cat lady on your hands.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then purtification for deheathenization must commence.

Happy Sunday Y’all!
