Same here. I was taking college bound curriculum, so I was limited to one semester. Our typing teacher didn’t even have thenew worn off her degree and told us that we’d probably never use this once we’d typed our last term paper. Boy was she wrong! (typing this one handed since a little reddish dog is snoozing on the other)
Happy birthday RoxStar!
Dang! The last time I was required to wear a skirt to school was Catholic school in eighth grade in the mid-seventies. When I started public high school, we were allowed to wear jeans.
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and now able to use two hands to type (Nelson is chowing down on his breakfast). Not a whole lot shaking today, although I’ll likely do a load of towels. I have the day off from medical appointments.
Still working on the baby book. I redid the title page and did a couple-threemore layouts. Today, I’m beginning the grandparents’ layout.
I helped out with the Twilight leftovers, then was loading 200 Bottom white. Which wasn’t hideous today. Tomorrow? Probably. I got home at 0915, and still had water pressure, so I jumped in the shower first, much to Spot’s consternation. I still have pressure at 10:41EST, so I hope they didn’t forget to start working. Speaking of Spot,
How it started:
How it’s going: HAPPY GOTCHA DAY, SPOT!!!
Hey, I never kink shame.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY ROXSTAR!!!
Also true for headline writers for stories about Uranus.
It’s 39F and damp outside. The forecast calls for morning showers, afternoon thunderboomers, and a daytime high of 45F.
Happy Birthday, RoxStar!
Happy Gotcha Day, Spot!
I learned to type in 10th grade, too. It seems we were required to take a business-type class, even if we were on the college-prep track. I sucked at typing, and the teacher, Mr. Salmon, would tape a blank piece of paper over the keyboard if he caught anyone looking at the keyboard. Back then, there weren’t computers. At any rate, my typing improved significantly after I got my first government job. I went from barely 40 words a minute to around 95 or 100 within the space of six months.
Bedding and towels will probably be washed today, and that’s about all that is on the chore agenda.
My gaming table accessories are out for delivery. Finally, after nearly a year of delays[1], I’ll finally be able to use my folding, storable gaming table.
I’m running out of excuses for putting off prepping the next D&D game.
Thanks to tariffs, government shutdowns, and legal disputes between the manufacturer and the distributer. ↩︎
back at the office today… why is the best sleep right before the alarm goes off?! 5 guys baconcheeseburger for lunch today. i went for the vanilla shake as well. time to go wild.
it is 87f in philly right now. it feels like we springed forward to june. i had to have the aircon on for a bit yest. afternoon. probably today as well. i think i’ll chance washing the big coat, the winter jacket, and assorted accessories tonight. i won’t put them in the storage bin as yet. that is just asking for snow to happen.
I was in Catholic school thru 8th grade, so definitely no pants. This was the uniform thru 6th grade. The next 2 years, girls wore navy blue a-line skirts with a white blouse. No tie. (This pic is from Sept 1962 - I’m in 3rd grade, my sister in 2nd, bro in first.)
Even in high school, girls had to wear skirts, tho in 1970/71, we were allowed to wear pantsuits. No jeans, tho. Heaven forbid!!!
We came home early. We had to order a part that won’t be in till tomorrow, so after lunch, we tidied up and quit. Firday morning, I’ll put a second coat of paint on while FCD installs the new check valve. Then on Moanday, we’ll move the mattresses in and declare the cabin done.
Yard work in the morning, methinks. Not sure what the rest of today holds.
My high school did away with the dress code in '70 or '71. Don’t know about the local Catholic high school, though.
We now have 65 Ferrets, with nine more predicted for this afternoon. In the 70s the next two days, but then it starts dropping to a 30% chance of snow Monday. Who’s in charge of this nonsense?
Planning a trip to WallyWorld this afternoon – just the local one, not the big one across the river, but we should be able to clear the shopping list there. More RDOS to follow… .
After much cursing and angst, Turbotax finally accepted our returns. The wife tried too many times to unsuccessfully access one of our bank accounts, so it shut down and we had to estimate what the amount was. But the IRS will correct any mistakes on our part. At times like this I wish I drank heavily. More stressful than doing it was seeing how confused my wife gets now. Not good. I may end up taking over the tax chore, as I have the banking. Cheeseburger time!
Mollie saw her therapist today. She said I was gorgeous. I’d never been called that before. I liked that. The walk from the car to her door was nerve-wracking. However, on the walk back, I held my head high. We talked about Mrs Magill. I have been doing a lot of worrying, but in all honesty, she has been really supportive for someone in her position.
Also, I said the “T” word out loud, and the world didn’t end!
(Filed for an extension. Just can’t with the financial shit right now. Huddling with the cat and trying to convince myself to eat. I have yummies in the fridge; just gotta want them.)
I’m sure Mollie looked lovely, and I’m glad she walked with her head up like the queen bee she’s learning to be.
Howdy Y’all! We procured and stowed provisions, achieved nappage, and have just returned to da cave from geezer sup. We live in a nonstop whirlwind.
The high skool dress code got relaxed in the Fall of 1970. I grew hippie hair and sideburns that Summer. I wore bell bottoms the first day of skool. I was all rad and groovy!
Happy Bday RoxStar!
Happy Gotcha Day Spot! Hope the Hooman Servant has behaved today.
Mollie of course you are gorgeous! Yay for sayin’ the word outloud.
Mollie - I don’t generally comment because I avoid “Me, too” posts mostly, but I must say you really impress me and I’m rooting for you, if quietly. Anyway, have a hug {{{}}}
Just listed my TV on Marketplace again. I’d deleted the last listing because of so many annoying and idiotic responses. (Yeah, right, I’ll deliver… ) I made sure this listing addressed all the inanities I encountered before. We shall see.
This is Military Week at Roxy’s school, and tomorrow is “Military hat or shirt day” Did I already mention this? Anyway, SIL came by and picked up my bootcamp combination hat along with a photo of me in 1973 wearing it. Since it’s completely different from the women’s uniform hats today, I thought the photo would be of value.
We’ve revisited the plans for the rest of the week. I’m going to the boat first thing tomorrow to finish painting. Then to Michael’s to pick up some fabric I ordered, and to Lowes for a couple of azaleas (I think.) On the way home, I’ll swing by Food Lion for fruits and some rolls for the sloppy joes we’ll be eating on Saturday after the party. Maybe some baked beans, too. I’ll try to get some gardening done once home.
Firday will be, as usual, laundry day. Daughter is planning to come over and decorate for the party. I may attempt to fill the pits Otis dug in the yard then mow. I haven’t thought beyond that.
Thanks, luv! I’m currently chowing down on a mini baguette with a cardiologist dream worth of a few pats of butter.
There’s a container of squash soup up for next, but I ate most of my brie’n’Triscuits (why yes, I am a speshul snowflake) and am unsure if I have the wherewithal to obtain replacement.
Finally home. The tax department went absolutely mad and had over 100 certified returns that had to go to the post office. Insanity! I ended up doing a very rare overtime and not the laundry I had planned.
Finished with the shopping. We didn’t need much, so it was a quick trip to the BJ’s. We stopped by the new ice cream place on the way home. I had a cone of peach, and Mrs Magill had a peanut butter cup sundae. She carefully removed the massive mound of whipped cream qnd transferred it to a take out cup lid for Chloé.
I spoke with my next-door neighbor, who’s Indian. I told him I get worried when we don’t see them for long stretches. His work handles all his immigration legalities, but he’s getting me the lawyer’s card, just in case someone bad happens.
Thank you everyone for your kind words. Today was a big step in my journey. It’s nice to know someone has my back!
Hey everyone, I’ve been reading along on my breaks, but the garden has been my main focus again. I’m almost done. The tomatoes, bell peppers and cucumbers are in and everything has a thin layer of mulch.
Hubs bought cut straw this year which is very nice. It is easier to work with and I think I probably have a life time supply now.
We are going to two big outdoor markets tomorrow for more posies and then I will just need to wait and see how I did. After decades of gardening on the hard level, it is nice to be doing here with real dirt and regular rain.
While I cannot keep catnip alive inside, the pots of dead stuff I tossed outside in the winter have come alive again.
George is a niphead through and through. He knows there is catnip outside the birdy door and he complains whenever one of us comes in with empty hands. He also gets offended when we give some to Jolene. We think that is super funny, he shares everything else, they eat out of the same bowl together but when it comes to catnip, she’s on her own!
I can’t keep up with posts anymore. When I was irking remotely, I could find time. But now I’m working in a bank, with rigid breaks and lunchtime, and I don’t feel comfortable coming here on company computers. I used to be able to do chores or run errands during the week. Now I have to do chores on Saturdays. Sundays I have to go to church. There’s just not enough time for keeping up with threads.
And now I have another thing to take my time. Today I received a 1984, leather-bound, Waldenbooks (exclusive) copy of Jules Verne’s Around the World in Eighty Days and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. I decided I’d find a nice copy after watching the movie of the former recently.
