(Old) A Day Off in the MMP

The creepiest, weirdest fog I’d ever encountered was in Maine - you could literally watch it roll in. We were on a boat and we’d watch this massive bank of white come across the water and envelop us. Totally unlike anything I’d experienced before then, or since.

We use plastic when we gas up, so we don’t really pay attention to the total. Then I look at the VISA bill and wonder who the heck bought $60 worth of gas??? Our cars don’t have huge fuel tanks.

Today starts around 66 Ferrets, headed to low 80s. First and main chore is to call my neurologist’s office (again) about a refill for my seizure meds. I called 2 days ago, but they still haven’t contacted CVS and after tomorrow morning, I won’t have any more pills. The person I spoke to asked if I had enough to make it thru today, which I do, but being the weekend, I won’t be able to contact the Dr when I’m out. Dammit. It may not be a problem, but it might, and I’d rather not risk it.

Next task is planting the two azaleas I bought yesterday. I’d also like to plant the lilac, but I’m not sure where to put it. I want it close to the house so I can enjoy it - and “close to the house” is pretty well planted up. So I need to figure that out.

We’re under a potential wildfire warning - dry and windy. We might get rain Sunday, but that leave 2 days to hope no one does anything stoopit. We’ll see how that goes.

So I must read quickly, call the doc, then get to work - laundry day, yanno.

Happy Firday!!

That sounds like fun, especially revisiting some of the successes of your past.

I really miss doob tubes. I didn’t pay attention to how handy they were until I couldn’t get them anymore. (Ya can’t get pre-rolls in WV because we aren’t allowed to actually smoke da bud.) Maybe I’ll run across the border to Ohio when next we go to Huntington. Weed is really expensive in Ohio though, and I can order them online if I want a bunch. Hmmmm. Must finish coffee and think about it.

It was super foggy again when I got up this morning. I woke up to pee around five and it looked like there was a white lake instead of the gully, the top of the fog layer looked like clouds from an airplane. Its starting to break up now but its still too thick for the birds to fly and they are getting hungry.

Hurray! I hope you have a great time!

Well, I’ve got a few things I want to get done today so I’m going to head off to do them. Have a great Friday everyone and be safe.

Just FINALLY got a text that my seizure meds will be ready this afternoon. I spoke to someone at the Dr office who said an order was sent on the 15th. Maybe, maybe not. But at least I know it’s being worked on now at CVS and I can pick it up after 2. So that’s a relief. Now I need to make an appt with the Dr since it’s been 2 years since the seizure (OK, May 29 - I’ll schedule in June) I’m hoping she’ll start weaning me off the meds.

Meanwhile, I planted both azaleas and the lilac. I’ve showered, dressed, and started the laundry. Go me!! I have 2 packs of strawberries that need to be cut up for Tobias (and FCD) to snack on. And I bought 2 big cans of generic baked beans that need to be jazzed up and allowed to sit overnight. Which bring me to - do any of you have special jazz-up-canned-beans recommendations? All I can come up with is chopped onions. I like adding cheese, but no one else here likes it that way. No taste, I tells ya!

OK, time to move the sprinkler. I can’t be entertaining you people all day!

Good morning.

It’s 43F and partly cloudy at the moment. The day is supposed to be mostly cloudy, with a daytime high of 56F. The last of the snow was gone by around 2:00 in the afternoon yesterday.

FCM, I used to jazz up baked beans with onions, ketchup, a little mustard, and some brown sugar.

Mollie, baby steps. You’ll get there.

BooFae, enjoy your quiet day at work. For me, the best days at the office were when I had it to myself.

Ariel sure is a pretty gal, Peedin.

Sunflower’s quilt is quite lovely, Hippy.

It seems like it was just Monday, and it’s already Friday. Time just seems to fly.

Alright, I need to get going on some chores. I slept in a little today and let my husband deal with the pups’ breakfast. Now, I need to get my butt in gear and take care of some other things.

You all take care.

Whenever we would go to the mountains, morning fog was always spectacular.

I cook with beans regularly. If canned beans are the basis of a quick meal, I tend to go with onions, garlic, cumin and some chopped jalapeño or serrano. I may or may not add cheese. If the beans are pintos, I’ll chop a tomato up in them. Blank slate.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. I’ll run a load of laundry this afternoon. Other than that, playing around in the studio and other RDOS pursuits.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Thank you all on my wife’s behalf

Good morning, all! I had lots.to do today, so I took the day off.

Mrs Magill and Squeaky are in Lexington visiting UK today, then tonight they’re driving to West Lafayette, IN to visit Purdue. They’ll be home tomorrow night.

Chloé and I were up and walking at six. I waited until after school started, then headed o er there to deliver the Band Director’s birthday card to the office, so the kids can quickly come through and sign it. By that time the post office was open, so I sent Spike his package of Easter candy and ADHD meds. Then I went to the new bagel shop and got myself a cinnamon raisin bagel, which was quite good, and a cup of coffee. I’ve arranged to get our first floor HVAC replaced, took care of basic hygiene needs, and will take some Amazon returns back.

One of the returns is a new hairpiece for Mollie. The color wasn’t what I had expected, and the style had some serious Karen vibes. After trying it on, I wanted to speak with the manager.

It’s also less likely to get you tossed into an ICE concentration camp.

Boofae - I had to look up Mammatus Clouds. Your weather app is not wrong.

FCM - I like to cut up a couple slices of bacon, frie that up until just before they’re crispy, sauté a diced up onion in the bacon fat, and put that in my beans alond with some ketchup, mustard, and brown sugar. That concoction goes in the slow cooker for a couple of hours.

Re baby steps. They’re nerve wrecking, but good practice. I told my therapist the other day, “I want all the things.” It’s just a lot of hard work to even achieve some of the things. This is a marathon, not a sprint, and I not sure I’ve made it to the starting line yet.

P.S. Driving in heels is not easy. It feels like you’ve got the accelerator to the floor, and you’re barely going thirty.

I was loading 200 Top Yellow again. Dispatched renamed two of the routes “TGIF” and “YOLO”. I did have to go up to the Mez for a bit, something to do involving the head of Preload, the Business Agent from the Teamsters Local, K the clerk, and Surly Loader Chick. I assume either somebody got suspended, or promoted to customer. I came home, and gave Spot his attention, so he’s happy now. Or maybe not, since he’s in my room yowling like he’s being lobotomized with a blunt crayon. I’m having my bowl of dry, flavorless bits(with milk and blueberries) while the laundry sloshes. I shall nap as soon as the load is done and put in the clothes dehydrator.

I used to know what boobs look like, but now I have a mammary problem.

Corn, onion, chilies, tomato, garlic.

Unlikely, unless you’re in Buñol
And small steps are good {{{{Mollie}}}}

What, the bedazzled frock is still at the dry cleaners?

If anyone ever does, you have my express permission to throw it right back at 'em.

Well played. I gotta remember that one.

That’s a helluva phenomenon to experience! Your description was vivid enough to give me a tinge of the shivers.

I kinda hadn’t either, but for different reasons. I usually budget $X bucks, and as long as it pushes the gas indicator back up, off I go.

And of course I’ve heard all the whining and moaning and wailing amd gnashing of teeth about { gestures vaguely } but last night was the first time in a while that my brain really did the math, if that makes any sense.

I have amassed quite the hoarder collection. You’re probably better off getting pristine clean ones straight from the source, but man, if you ever swing by this neck of the woods, I can hook you UP (I had an aborted craft project idea involving their various colors, so I have a few buckets worth.)

Heh, that was my “last night.” Cumin is my favorite for beans, as previously mentioned, but thyme or marjoram is nice for savory beans.

Are these the sweet style of beans, with lotsa brown sugar? In that case, anything that used to “oink” (bacon, chopped ham, hot dogs) is a good start.

Oh, good call.

Mollie baby steps are best when you’re getting used to high heels!

Long Night tonight, plus I’m sure the Friday night weirdos’n’drunks will come slithering out. They’re usually good for momentary laffs (after they leave) and yes, “Marie” from last night, we all absolutely made fun of your drunk ass.

I’d love to go back and see if I recognize any of it - I graduated in '79 - I expect it’s changed a bit…

First load of laundry is folded and stowed, second in the dryer, third in the washer, fourth will be the last. I’m done watering the garden. I really need to get on the strawberries and the beans. I’m thinking BBQ sauce, mustard, onions, and brown sugar if it’s not already in the can. < prepare to grasp pearls > No bacon. I don’t do bacon. Sorry, but there’s none in the house and I’m certainly not going to make a special trip to get any. Mock if you must.

Otis has had is midday kibbles. All is right with the world - or my little corner of it. Can’t really speak for the rest…

Don’t drive in your heels, that’s how you scuff the backs up. Leave a pair of slip on sneakers in your car and think of them as your driving shoes from now on.

I’m a white cis-female who is concerned about ending up in a concentration camp, you must be terrified. (Maybe think about waxing your arms and legs.)

:joy:

You must have really dedicated yourself to the task, I don’t think I’ve ever had more than five at a time. Not careless, just generous, non-smokers love them too.

Just for funsies, I looked at Amazon and found 100 for 9.99, which would probably be less expensive than driving to Ohio…but not nearly as much fun.

What kinda art project? I’ll bet it would have been super clever and all.

Are they also good for tips? I know I always overtip after I’ve had a couple.

The Starlings are still upset over loosing the tube feeder. Currently my entire fence is covered with black birds staring at the ramp, waiting for me to toss out a handful of seed. I haven’t seen any goldfinches yet, but I know they are around. I see them flying by the sock outside my doors to get to the one in front of Jolene’s window. (She likes to sit on my cheese “cave” and look out over the flower garden.)

Well, you did give fair warning.

{ brushes cat fur off fainting couch }

I don’t think anyone recommended combining the two, but … okay.

I had the same thought. Shit’s bad enough for the “normals” it’s gotta be a horror show of fear for you, dear heart @Maus_Magill

Also concur on the waxing suggestion. Doesn’t hafta be right now, just something to percolate in the back of your mind for later.

For a while, almost every doob tube I got was green plastic, with an occasional red or orange or hot pink (?!) one.

I had a vision of sticking them together (maybe hot glue gun?) into a Christmas tree shape, with the non-green ones as “ornaments.” Bonus points for making it into some sort of Advent calendar (open 1 tube a day!).

I also got a few that were clear plastic, and you betcha I kept those! Useful for crafty supplies and/or snacks.

Had the same problem when I sold our day bed. A couple really wanted it for their cabin and I got the blizzard of Venmo? Paypal? etc. Finally, she and her friend had to go find an ATM and withdraw enough cash to hand to me.

Unsettled weather today and in the 40s. We had a very close lightning strike this morning, then nothing, then graupel and now rain and wind. Things will improve starting Sunday after this cold front passes on through.

Exercise this morning. I’ve been using two pound weights in there for quite awhile. Thought I’d bump up to three pounds today and it was surprisingly more difficult than I thought it would be. I’ve become a weakling, I guess. Still, I’m better off than a lot of people here. I was making small talk with the maintenance guy yesterday and he told me that he has CPPD, a disease I’d never heard of. Apparently it’s like having ground glass in your joints and nothing much helps other than narcotics. Life could be so much worse.

The wife’s arm is still hurting her. I’ve at least convinced her that a round of anti-inflammatory (aspirin) and ice is a good idea to help relax whatever is aggravating her. Meanwhile, she won’t let me do the laundry without her, but I’ll have to put my foot down on that soon.

Dinner will be something fast and easy (like I used to be).

Got my meds - YAY! - finished the laundry - YAY! - made up the beans - YAY! - still need to cut up the berries and perform rollsuckage. That can wait till tomorrow.

So, what to do for supper? A puzzlement…

2-clicks for the unfiltered hideousness.

Just imagine my razor bill. I’m proper Chewbaca hairy.

Just wait until you’re wearing a bra most of the time. :stuck_out_tongue: Is that little wig shop in Old Hickory (pink house across the side street from Piggly Wiggly) still there? The ladies with whom I used to work absolutely loved that one. Seeing their work on my coworkers, I have to say that they did nice work.

I have the first load of clothes in the wash. Since I had to wear pants a couple of days this week, I divided it into two loads, since jeans take a while to dry.

I know about the wig shop in Brentwood on Church Street. I was trying to pick up something without having to interact with anyone or spend $200. I should have known better.

I do that sometimeswhen I make chili.

Take any chem classes there?

A shipmate used to mix a couple packets of hot-chocolate powder into his cup of coffee.

Gen Chem 115 and 116 (I had to look at my transcript) - got a B in both. If I remember correctly, one of them had labs taught by an Asian TA who would YELL to make himself understood. But that just made his rather thick accent louder. Good times.

FCD just got home from a day of working on the boat. We’ll both pretty much chill the rest of the day away.

Evening all.

If anyone remembers my saga of The Friend’s Luggage, please prepare to roll your eyes.

A newly qualified formerly student friend has just been offered a job in Germany. She’s leaving Sunday, at very short notice. Three guesses what she’s asked me to do…?

At least unlike my chaos friend she’s going to be back in town for graduation in June, has family they could be sent to in France in an emergency as well as the job offer in Germany, and it’s only 1-2 boxes of books, not 9 random bags of junk.

She did look after the ratties while I swanned off to lounge in the sun back in February, so I do owe her one. Also she just gave me some nice houseplants, as they can’t go with her. It probably counts as an occupational hazard of being the only student who owns a house…
