(Old) About your favorite pet in the MMP

Howdy Y’all! I have wasted a good part of the day bein’ productive. I fear my RDOS card will be revoked. I got the estimate for twuck and all that is churnin’ it’s way through the insurance machinations now. Also, mowage occured for both the front and back yahds. I usually split that into a two day chore, but for some reason, not today. OYKW dealt with laundry and got that accomplished. I did manage nappage and day drinkin’, however. We’ll do the steak and sallit tomorrow. Sup shall be sammiches or whatever. Just too tired to deal with anything and OYKW is also fine with it all.

MOOOOOOM and JtC our septic tank gets pumped about every three years as well. I think it’s best to do so periodically. My next door neighbors spent what I am sure is several thousand dollars dealing with their tank and drain field a couple of months ago. Don’t know what the problem was, and don’t want to, cause septic tank problems, eww.

JtC as long as you wear sump’n over the bra and panties it’s all good. The exception bein’ :astonished:Wally*World :astonished: or Dollar General as it wouldn’t matter in both places.

Taters thanks for the doggy stories. Amazin’ how each one develops their own personality ain’t it!

Pilot glad the eye continues to improve. Never underestimate the number of stoopid people.

MetalMouse the repair estimate for twuck came to just over $1600. I ain’t payin’ for it, so I ain’t worried.

Doggio Amazon is desperate for me to participate in Prime Day. So desperate you’d think they are houewives livin’ on Wisteria Lane.

Cookie yay for grand daughter!

talky sorry you have the plague. May you feel better soonest.

VanGo hope you made it home safe and dry.

I had a one-on-one meeting with La Nueva Jefa this morning. She’d scheduled for an hour, and it could have gone on longer. She seemed relieved when I told her I’m never going to retire – and that I’m exercising (walking) and trying to eat a healthy diet. She was happy that I’ve put together a Data Department Manual. (I told her it’s a work-in-progress.) I have a lot of stuff in my head, and I want to give my replacement a head start when I win the jackpot in a lottery.

She said I should come upstairs on my one-day-a-week office visit. She said there’s no point in coming into the office if nobody sees me. I told her I could work from home full-time and just come down for parties. She said we can talk about that.

That’s the variety that I bought this week. They’re good.

Irked, came home and crashed for a bit before supper. Yesterday, while I was running around, my knee began to click. It was a little swollen, but I figured that it was from the trip. It was worse this morning, so on went the knee brace. Funny thing, it doesn’t really hurt, it’s just stiff and clicks. It’s doing that less now, but I’ll likely brace it again tomorrow.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Target has an interesting origin story. One night, about 11 years ago last April, Airman and I went to the drive in movie theater. Some guy found a litter of abandoned kittens and was trying to find them homes. I gave Airman my best Puss in Boots eyes and he caved. He wanted naming rights and since he hated cats, baptized her Target. As in “Target practice”. As is true with most cats, she adopted the human who didn’t like cats. She is now the apple of her daddy’s eye and Lord help the poor soul who dares irritate his precious little girl. (He hated cats, past tense, which is why we now have four of them.)

I actually do know that, it’s just that I’ve never owned a place that didn’t have septic to worry about and was looking forward being on sewer for once. Oh well.

Banking in WV is not like we are used to. The bank Hubs picked keeps paper, I was cringing when I was watching the lady stapling everything in the correct order and then using one of those mongo staplers for the half inch pile. Online banking isn’t really a thing for them.

We won’t be keeping a lot of money there.

Yesterday I tried to get my WV driver license and didn’t have the right proof of residency. While we were setting up our new bank account I asked the lady for something with the bank’s letterhead, my name and our address and she gave me a pitying look and said “Are you trying to get your new driver’s license? I’ve lived here all my life and I had to go back three times just to renew last time.”

That did not fill me with joy, but she did give me another piece of paper to put in the pile. I think I’ll try again tomorrow. Or not. I’m resigned to driving to Ohio every couple of months for the next year, but on the bright side…I’ve never bought weed in Ohio, so that will be new.

Are you going to tell me that you really did stand there quietly with your mom all that time? You never once got your head stuck between the metal bars and had axle grease smeared on your ears by a firefighter?

Oh, hmmm, just me?

That’s what we paid our housekeeper in AZ, so we didn’t think it was out of line here. We tidy up after ourselves, she does the bathrooms, dusting, kitchen and floors and it takes about two hours. It would probably take less time in your home because you don’t have sheding machines running around.

The adoption center at PetSmart had a mess of cute lil smooshy kittens and one 2 and a half year old male named Charlie. He was a friendly guy who came right to us for pettings and his sign said he was being fostered with other cats and got along well.

Hubs wants a girl cat so said NO. Usually adopting a pet is a Two yes, One no thing (both of us have to agree, one now will stop the thing from happening) with us. GG was a spite cat because I was so mad at him for risking his life because the then president said COVID wasn’t that bad. Today only one of us said yes, so we left kitty and came home.

Sometimes it just takes Hubs a little time to agree that I know what he wants better than he does, so I let him think about it and then brought it up again at dinner. Mostly I was asking what else needed to be done before he was ready to bring a new kitty home and he said he thought we might want to check with that store and find out what times the adoption folks will be there tomorrow.

I’ve never had a f2f with my money guy. I can’t see any reason to bother, he is always available by email or text. Once in a while we will have to actually talk to each other, but he likes to use zoom for that so he can show me what he’s talking about.

Some cats remember!

The worse part about this is when folks are using the same words but with different meanings. You think you are communicating clearing when all you are doing is making things worse :frowning:

I hope they work things out soon.

Well, at least your not paying for it until the next insurance payment is due…

flyboy, sounds like you have a good relationship with the Boss; always something nice to have.

My first sample (I eat 2 apples a day Tue-Fri and 2 bananas a day Sat-Mon) is positive, but think I like the old Red Delicious a bit more. Hope the knee gets to doing better, mine have been behaving recently, but still keep tabs on them.

JtC, hope Charley is still around tomorrow. Pictures when you can are needed.

Well, I tried to mess up going to the gym, got there and realized I hadn’t packed a t-shirt so stowed my stuff and drove home to get one, but still got a fair number of calories burned. Mac-n-Cheese is currently assimilating in my belly. Was contacted by the public radio folks, they had never received my check so I cancelled it and will send them another one tomorrow. Clouds are all about us but no rain here, Weather Wizards are saying there is a 60% chance tomorrow, so we’ll see…

Have a good night/morning everyone.

Stand quietly with Mom? YGBSM honey!! I was the Ace Number One Hellion right out of the chute! I have no idea how Mom summoned the strength each day not to kill all 3 of us. Repeatedly.

OTOH, my natal 'burb was built in the late 1950s right along with me and bars were nowhere to be seen in this sleek modern example of BofA modernist imperialist style. In fact other than a vault in one corner, there was no overt sign of security anywhere. Any little old lady could have easily vaulted the low counters separating the customer area from the teller area.

WV local banks with paper? Just don’t aim any of your direct deposits like SS or AZ retirement there. Odds are that pitiful excuse for a steam-powered bank can’t accept ACH inbound and your money will simply disappear into cyberspace never to be seen again.

I would be pretty proud of her as well! Is there a way to share a pic of her poster?

Well, dang. I haven’t gotten my latest booster, thanks for the reminder. I don’t want sore eyeballs.

I’m glad you made it in time. We’ve got storms moving in as well and I’m rather disappointed that we can’t actually see lightning here. I can see the forest flicker with light and hear the boomers, but when they are right over head I’m inside comforting GG.

Well dang, I didn’t know you had so many lofty expectations as far as proper attire was concerned. I might have to rethink our friendship.

Dang about the gear, I hope it gets better soon!

I’m fairly sure that Charlie will be available tomorrow, the other cages were full of kittens and most people want kittens before adults. We don’t want a kitten, they are terrors and too small for GG to play with.

So today we went to Staples and bought a couple of desk chairs. Mine is clearly a girl chair, the seat is narrow enough that my legs don’t stick out when I’m sitting on it and it is a nice mauve. His is a black gaming chair with many adjustments.

Some random customer asked us if we were buying anything today and then handed us a 15% off everything in the store coupon. The sales guy who brought to the check out counter also found an online match for my chair so we spent much less than expected/hoped.

While we were waiting for someone to help us load, a young female looking person said she could help and took the cart and headed to the door. I noticed that she had her purse and a bottle of water so spoke up demanding to know if she was on her break cause ain’t nobody working off the clock for us. She said she had just clocked in but thanked me for noticing.

Humpf. Our BofA was built shortly after I was born (in 1957) and had iron bars in front of the windows and tellers stations. Mom let go of my hand one day when she was signing paperwork. Her memory is failing and she has forgotten our last train trip to the Grand Canyon, but she clearly remembers the embarrassment of that bank trip to this day.

(I was in a gingham pinafore with those horrible scratchy underskirts and patent leather Mary Jane shoes, I’m sure I looked quite the picture as the firemen smeared axle grease over my white blond hair.)

Oh, yeah. We both have agreed that our WV bank account will never have more than 5G. Mostly we have it to establish residency and because it is handy to have a local checking account to pay the local repair folks.

The bank lady was slightly surprised when we didn’t want debit cards, but many folks out this way just keep their money under their mattress. She seemed happier that she could set us up with a checking account but didn’t seem to understand that we didn’t want to sign up for overdraft protection (at an extra charge).

Our housekeeper and her hubby came over today to get the bed but we didn’t think that they would be able to get the box spring in her momvan. Hubs and her hubby had a discussion and then suddenly Hubs remembered that we own a cargo trailer, the same one we used to bring the chairs and kitty tree home.

They are super happy to have the bed and we are super happy to have it gone so it is a win in our book.

And now the power just started flickering. This is the third time since we moved in, hubs is probably going to be talking about a genny soon.

I will be SO happy to get my desktop comp back.

Click on the pic for a short vid which is safely hosted in my flickr account.

Not at the moment, as it would include picture of her and her sister. I don’t have permission to do that.

And I wouldn’t ask. But maybe you could ask the mom to crop the kids out for your bragging pleasure?

Got my free clothes. They are in a bag until I launder as I worry.
I thought I’d find some tank tops, nope! Some pants though.
No word on jobs yet.

Happy Toosday!

It was a hot one. It’s supposed to rain and cool off but no rain yet.

I didn’t irk today for the third day in a row.
I can’t get motivated. I’m just burned out.

I hope your truck gets fixed soon, Swampy.

Sticky, tension in the home sux.

Rockin’, I thought Target because that is where you found her.

Another piddly day around here. Little things are getting done, but there are BIG things that need to be done.

Prine Day and I have done no shopping. I don’t really need anything.
I thought about buying another portable AC for my son’s room but he says he is okay without it.
Petey’s dad’s brother doesn’t want to take on a side job right now because it is so hot out. Since we are doing okay, we can wait until fall for a splitter.
I’m thinking of getting some work done around here anyway, so better to wait anyway.

Tonight I channeled Godzilla and consumed (a)Manhattan, along with Redneck stirfry.

I never hated cats, but I am a dog person. So all my cats have been given to me/chosen by the cat over the cat person in the house.

Up, caffeinated and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s only a heat index of 84.

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 16c/60f with a predicted high of 22c/72f and mostly sunny. Weather app says “It’s clear and fucking sunny, but I promise, none of this fucking matters. In fact, nothing fucking matters.” Weather app must be having an off day today.

JtC WV does seem to have a different pace of life, doesn’t it?

Swampy I bet you are very glad someone else is paying for the repairs, that would definitely necessitate a Sharp Intake of Breath!

{{{{{Sari}}}}}

flyboy La Neuva Jefa sounds like a reasonable sort of person - it does seem ridiculous to be travelling so far just for one day in the office. It would be much more sensible to work at home all the time and just go in when you’re needed (or when there’s a party!)

Cookie Yay for granddaughter!

Wordy Sorry to hear you have plague, staying out of the way of other people is the way to go.

It is a strange day in the office today. This morning our School has its graduation ceremonies so there are a lot of smartly-dressed academic staff around. Yesterday we heard of the sudden death of one of the academics, he’d been here 47 years. Immediately after the graduations, there will be a little gathering to remember him, which kind of overshadows the whole graduation thing.

Also, one of my minions takes up a new role today as he’s covering for our postgrad person who’s on maternity leave for 12 months. It’s a higher grade and more responsibility so I am happy that he’s got the job, but sad not to have him as he’s incredibly good at his job. I will be getting a new minion, but not until September.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 75 Amurrkin out with a predicted high of 92 with light rain showers later in the day. We shall see. The predicted light rain showers did not appear yestiddy. The big item on today’s agenda is to procure provisions. The rest of the day shall definitely be a RDOS day, especially after bein’ so active yestiddy. Sup shall be steak, sallit, and cheesey garlic bread.

FlyBoy that sounds like a productive meetin’. with La Nueva Jefa. Shall we keep appropriate/inappropriate appendages crossed re full-time WFH?

red hope the knee is less stiff and clicky soonest.

JtC so does this mean Charlie has found a forever home? If it’s any consolation I’d be OK with you wearin’ the bra and panties over clothin’.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas and bother, I suppose I must purtify and don attire acceptable for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. Le sigh.

Happy Hump Day Y’all!

When FCD told the manager at PNC that he was closing the account and moving all the money to the credit union, he didn’t understand why. Despite the fact that their website is user-hostile, their tellers aren’t exactly service-oriented, no one can seem to answer a simple question or provide simple service, and they didn’t bother to mention the service-charge free account for seniors, as they blithely sucked $25/month away. Meanwhile, at our credit union, they’d do backflips in order to help. PNC sux!!

Another hot day in store, with rain promised tonight and into tomorrow. Hope so. No real plans - it’s another shower day for MIL, but that’s all that’s on the agenda.

Except I need to go to the pharmacy. I think I have scabies, dammit. I’ve had this itchy area in the crease of my right knee that seems to get worse at night. I did some googling and some more googling, and all symptoms point to scabies. No clue where I may have picked it up, but it appears getting rid of it will be a royal pain in the patoot - including all the necessary laundering. Dammit. Since I can’t see it, I’ll ask FCD to compare my knee to the pics on line before I buy any meds.

Barring any complications, I’ll be going to the boat tomorrow with FCD to (I hope) finish pulling wires for the transformer installation. I hate that he’s having to do so much by himself, especially since climbing in and out of the engine room is so hard on his legs. Tho part of it is that he can’t accept being RDOS - he has to be doing something all the time or he feels guilty. I don’t know how to get him to accept chillage more readily. Then again, his dad was the same way, even when the dementia set in.

Anyway, that’s life in FairyChatEstates. Until it changes, because it always changes.

Happy Wednesday!!

Mornin’!

It’s 64F and partly cloudy outside. Today, it’s supposed to be mostly cloudy, and the expected high temperature is 85F. Yesterday, it reached 91F, and it was uncomfortable in the house during the late afternoon/early evening.

FlyBoy, I hope your new boss lets you work remotely. Your commute is no joke; even the tiniest twig on the freeway jacks up the commute for hours. On Friday, it took me four hours to get from Mount Vernon to Olympia. I left at 10:40 a.m. I was not a happy camper. I couldn’t imagine doing that on the regular.

red, I hope your knee returns to normal very soon.

JtC, I hope Charlie is coming home with you today.

Both of yesterday’s interviews went as I expected. These are panel interviews, with me, my boss, and the current MPA as panel members. We all agreed that these individuals would not be a good fit and didn’t possess some of the skillsets we desire in an applicant. Finally, we couldn’t get straight answers from either of the applicants on the questions. I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt and would even ask them to provide a specific example of a process or outcome, but neither could do it.

Here’s hoping the following three applicants have better interviews. These two were not on my shortlist, so I’m hopeful about at least two upcoming interviews.

The rest of the day was filled with unplanned meetings, budget work, and many follow-ups for on-going situations.

I miss our Nellie. I hope she’s doing well.

Well, I should get my but in gear. I need to feed the pups and head upstairs to work.

It’s really pretty outside today. I woke up without a headache for the first time since Thursday today and my eyeballs don’t feel like they’re being pressurized anymore. I have a feeling it might come back as the day goes on, but for now it’s absolutely, positively lovely. I take for granted things not hurting until they stop.

Since I can’t hang out with anyone and the coughing seems slightly less today, I may go for a short walk. Unfortunately, I can’t smell or taste anything anymore. I first noticed that flavors seemed dull-ish mid-day on Monday, but I assumed it was just congestion. Now I’ve got way less congestion and more or less no sense of either taste or smell except an occasional sensation of salty. Oh, well - small price to pay for not feeling like my joints are on fire and my eyeballs are about to burst.

On the bright side, I did manage to get to the ophthalmologist on Monday before having tested again and my eyes are fine. I’m really glad we both wore masks. My daughter told me it was embarrassing. Giving my kids “secondhand cringe” is a hobby, and everyone needs one.

I suppose I should check my email. I’m not sure how the whole being on meetings and talking all day thing will go; if I’m lucky I can bump some of them out.
