On this day in the MMP

On this day in 1901 Guglielmo Marconi sends the first transatlantic radio signal, from Poldhu in Cornwall to Newfoundland, Canada. Go ahead - work that into a conversation - I dare ya!!

Also on this day this year, I tested positive for plague. Dammit. I had a feeling it was coming because last night I had a serious attack of chills. Then I kept waking all thru the night - I think maybe a fever broke because my sheets were kinda damp. Fortunately, so far, FCD is neg. He’s going to move into the guest room tonight - we’ll see if that makes a difference.

Needless to say, I’m not going to Baltimore today. I’ll lie around, staying hydrated, probably napping, trying my best not to cough too much.

How’s your day? Oh yeah, Happy Moanday!

Sub-freezing weather, snow on the ground, and the work is piling up, as we try to finish all the 2022 tasks, in 2022.

Hope FCD stays negative and that you have a mild case.

Yikes, sorry to hear about the plague diagnosis, FCM. Hope it’s over fast and easy.

On this day in 2021, the last contractor drove away from our house - after 8 months of repairs and workmen following a Texas-sized hailstorm. It marked the completion of the following (cut and pasted from my records):

  • Replacement of 1 car (total loss due to hail), another damaged but not worth the dent repair.
  • Complete replacement of house roof, and new (low profile) vents/fixtures.
  • Completely repainted house.
  • Repaired damage to driveway gate.
  • Upgrade/repair of washed out retaining walls
  • Two new Air Conditioners (replaced hail-damaged ones).
  • Complete replacement of damaged/ patio roof:
  • New gutters built and installed, entire house.
  • Complete removal/replacement of upper garage roof, deck and railings:

It was a hell of a storm.

As for me, it’s 50 something and possible rain. I’m sitting here with my black coffee, awaiting my lab work. Coffee with sugar and a real breakfast (brunch) will follow all the needles n stuff.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up, caffeinated, fed, and shevelled, so no YAWN. ‘Tis 58 Amurrkin out and cloudy/rainy(ish) with a predicted high of 64 and cloudy/rainy(ish) for the day. I am all purtified because I shall take twuck in for his routine service this mornin’. I’ll leave in about fifteen minutes to go to the Ford place. With luck I shall be back to da cave around nine(ish). Then sloth shall ensue the rest of the day except for the makeage of sup, which shall be beef stroganoff, sallit, and cheesey garlic bread. Well, beef stroganoff like, cause I sorta kinda make it up as I go. Recipe? I don’t need no stinkin’ recipe!

MOOOOOOM sorry you got the plague. May it be a mild case and may FCD avoid it altogether. He’s got enough dealin’ with his 'rents and his brother.

Pully YIKES! That was a helluva storm! Enjoy your brunch once the vampires are done.

Now I shall steel myself to go out amongst the great unwashed. Life can be just so awful!

Happy Moanday Y’all!

I sent a message to my doc to see if she wants me to take anything/do anything/not do anything. I popped a couple of acetaminophen because I’ve got a bit of a headache. As soon as FCD heads out, I’ll shower and assume a chillage position. I foresee a day of chillage in sweats.

FCM Sorry you got the plague. Hope you feel better soonest!

swampy That’s how I like to cook, no recipes, just wing it.

I’m up and shevelled, soon to be off to the shop. The convenience store down the road from my house just re-opened/re-branded after being closed for a couple of year. I think I’ll stop in and see what’s what. Some of the other locations of that chain have breakfast sammies.

A storm is sweeping our way, but not much idea of what that will mean for us. Wintery mix, for sure, possibly some inches of snow. Then next week, the bottom drops out to single digits and possibly sub-zero at night.

Friday is finally my appointment with the knee people. I’m really hoping for a cortisone injection to get some pain relief.

Breakfast burritos this morning, I think.

Morning, all. Rained all day yesterday, with another squall passing through this morning. Highs are predicted in the low 40s. Sure hope my classroom heat is still on duty. One week of Finals and then we’re off until January!

Breakfast this morning will be a breakfast burrito from some spot on the way to work, I’m sure. No idea what I’m going to make for dinner. Everybody fly low, stay warm and stay hydrated.

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s 0c/31f and not expected to change today, and cloudy. Weather app says “I bet you wish you fucking lived in San Diego. Well, that place sucks too”. I’ve been to San Diego, seemed like a decent enough place and the old town has some fantastic Mexican restaurants.

Mooom sorry you have plague on top of everything else that’s going on :frowning:

swampy some of the best meals are the ones you make up as you go along!

We had snow yesterday, enough to scupper the day’s plans but also that doesn’t necessarily mean a lot of snow because in England, enough snow to barely cover the ground causes the country to grind to a halt. Travel to irk was not too bad today, new rail timetable so trains were running but not when people expected them to. It’s not a major change, some trains have moved by a minute or two so I still managed to get here. I’ll have to check before I leave to see what the homeward situation is. And today is my last day on campus this year. Hurrah! The peasants will rejoice!

Morning, everyone. Fairly gloomy Monday today…eh, aren’t they all?

Saturday, I went clothes shopping with my sister, and I got some really nice new shirts.

Sorry to hear you’ve got the plague, FCM.

So in addition to the belt being overloaded, having no friction on the up slope, and having the pickoffs down stream keep turning it off, it was making a new noise. Which is not ideal for something that carries 40% of the shift’s work.

Sorry, FCM. Hope it passes quick.

Pully, that was a heck of a strom! :open_mouth:

Picking up where Boo left off … I have a very small (knee high) tree that’s been around about as long as I have. (Remember that old-skool tinsel? It still has some tattered remains of that stuff clinging to its fake needles.)

I hadn’t felt like it the last coupla years, but this season, I brought it up from the Basement o’Crap and plugged it in …

… aaaaand apparently, the ancient old-skool lights, twined into the branches like wilted flowers tangled into dreadlocks at a hippie festival, are kaput. They are no more. They have ceased to BE.

Now to enjoy my pretty, lit up, twinkling damn tree I gotta unwind all that crap, go get a new string o’lights … OMG I may just buy a half-off tree later and enjoy the damn thing in March.

Good morning all. Bladder got me up at 5:30am, went back to bed until 8:30 so slowly starting the day. Will do shoppin’-n-sammich after this and swimmin’-n-sauna is on the agenda. Actually looks like we’ll see some sun today, high will be 57F…but rain due Wednesday.

FCM, you have the plague? Unclean! Unclean!    Seriously, take care of yourself and get well soon.

boo fae, glad for the Last Day on campus; celebrate!

quietly, have fun administering and grading finals (not fun).

yanker, I agree, that was one hell of a storm. Just glad (most) of the house was still standing.

Ah, Dicey, sounds like my old days in Northern Ohio when I was but a youth…take care.

OK, need to dress proper like and head over to Publix (and see if I remember my cloth bags) and Jersey Mike’s. Take care all.

I posted this in last week’s MMP, forgetting that today is Monday.

Twenty or more years ago, I wished I had a puking cat creamer. Unfortunately, they didn’t exist and I didn’t know anyone, or know how to find anyone, to make one for me. I’d search from time to time over the years to see if anyone else had the same idea. No joy. Until a few weeks ago. I found one on Amazon. It arrived yesterday. (A Sunday delivery, no less!)

Dang, Mom. I hope you have a light dose.

It rained during the night and isnt supposed to get over 50f today. Winter is here. Le sigh.

Voice of recent experience here…use a pair of wire snipers to cut the wires and pull them off in 6 inch lengths. Takes too damn long to unwind/detangle/unsnarl them. Besides, it feels kind of therapeutic . Then go to Lowes and buy new strings. Lowes strings were $2 dollars a strong cheaper than Walmart’s and were better quality, as well as Lowe’s had more choices. I’d recommend buying LED ones over the old fashioned incandescent. They stay cooler (kitty teething toys) last longer and are cheaper to run. I checked, there is a Lowes where you live. I was much happier with my Lowes shopping experience. Walmart sucks the marrow out of my bones and I don’t have enough marrow as it is.

Lots of half price trees now but even at half price the price is startling and selection, especially of smaller more affordable trees, is pretty picked over. Buy a cheap pair of wire snippers, snip off those baddies and slap on some new strings! You’ll be glad. I ought 4 100 light strings for my 5 foot tree-that was just right. I like buying in 100 light strings versus one 300 light string so if/when one bulb or strings quits, I just pull that part out and replace with a new string. Or that’s my theory. I also get less tangled up in 100 light strings than single-handedly trying to handle a 300 light handful.

We can have a Mumper contest of who can leave their tree up the longest~I’m thinking of mid-January shifting mine from in front of the big living room window to a corner of the room (about 5 feet) and just enjoying the twinkle through the winter. I’d be the only person seeing it but I do love me some twinkly lights. I’m an eccentric old lady, I can do such things.

Good morning! 'Tis a pearly grey morning here. At least, it’s morning for a few more minutes.

I’m going to son and wife’s the day after Christmas and will return the following evening. I think I’m going to mail their gifts, as two are rather bulky. I’m all caught up on wrapping until more gifts arrive.

Here’s a funny cat story that made me think of @JaneDoe42 and GG. My daughter can’t use a tree skirt because her Nebelung cat pees on them. To cover the stand of their fake tree, she removed the flaps from a box, cut a hole in the other end for the trunk, and covered visible surfaces with Christmas wrap. Smart, right? The next day, she noticed the tree was moving across the floor. Then she spotted a fluffy grey tail and rear paws. The Nebelung had squeezed in his front end next to the trunk and was happily walking the whole setup across the floor with his front paws. Cats be weird.

FCM, darn, I’m sorry you caught Covid. Rest up, and I hope you recover quickly and fully and that FCD doesn’t catch it. In the meantime, you deserve some chillage.

Dicey, thanks for the fascinating info!

BooFae, yay for that last day!

flyboy, unsure why anyone wants a puking cat creamer, but glad you found one and will get much joy from its use.

nellie, thanks so much for the cat story. I laughed as I pictured it in my head. Just what I needed on a less than stellar morning.

Sorry, Mooom. I have a cough but we were in a vey dry hotel, so I’ll see if it abates over the day.

Um… Why wouldn’t anyone want a pucking cat creamer?

In other news, I got an email from the Sheriff’s department saying my CPL (Concealed Pistol License) renewal application has been approved, and the new CPL will be mailed to me. Not that I ever carry a firearm. (Heck, it’s been 15 years since I’ve been to the range.) But I couldn’t get on in my native state, so I got it because I can. :stuck_out_tongue:
