Non-boat choreage today! FCD wants to work in his shop, machining the labels for various things on the boat. So I’m going to do some house cleaning (rah.) then run to WalMart for cat treats and ibuprofen and a few other things. Plus it’s near the jeweler’s so I can get my ring. It’s funny how nekkid my finger feels!
Several people in several forms have questioned us buying a boat that needs so much work. Let me assure one and all, the only thing needed was to replace one engine room blower and its circuit breaker. Everything else (including resulting inadvertent damage) is because FCD thinks things need to be a certain way, and that’s what he wanted to do. That’s why we chased down and remove so much abandoned wire - it wasn’t causing any problems, but it could have led to confusion one day. And in the course of replacing some corroded stuff, we solved some intermittent problems.
We did get a good and thorough inspection before we bought it, and apart from the numerous abandoned wires, we knew exactly what was needed and we knew we could deal with it. What we didn’t know was how hard it would be in FCD, physically. But it’s a good, solid vessel, perfectly safe, and as soon as he splices together the wire to the flybridge tachometer (that he cut in error) it will be working exactly as it should be. But I still intend to whine and complain about all the hard work it requires, because that’s what boat owners do.
I was talking to Scott - the guy with the 45’ motoryacht tied up next to ours. He’s a retired Marine Mustang who also owns a 50’ racing sailboat that he just raced from Newport to Bermuda. Yeah, there’s some money floating around us. Scott was talking to a guy about detailing his boat once a month - must be nice! We still haven’t gotten around to our first good scrub…
Then there’s Karen and Ron on the 46’ sailboat on our other side - they drive down from Pittsburgh every weekend. Ron is talking about selling his business and retiring - he does something with computer network maintenance and service and apparently he’s good enough that he can afford to fire clients he doesn’t like!
And on the other side of them is Matt and Laura from Falls Church, VA. We’ve met more “neighbors” at the marina in the last 4 or 5 months than we have at our house in 18 years!! And so far, they’re all really nice people. That’s a big thing we missed when we didn’t have a boat. And if I start going on and on too much about it, you can say something. I may well ignore you, but go ahead and say something anyway!

It’s a muggy 74° to start the day here and it’s only supposed to get hotter and muggier. I miss spring.
Happy Moanday!!
