Sympathy OWIE over here. I don’t do spicy foods, but can imagine the pain. Hope you didn’t do any major damage, especially if that’s the eye recovering from surgery.
Oh, that really sucks. I do hope you don’t have to move again, it is so stressful, but you cannot go without decent air conditioning. And with what you are paying every month, they should be jumping through hoops to keep you folks happy.
Nice! The last time I had to deal with that stuff it stunk to high heaven. I hope it works.
Folks in AZ used to put things like lavender and rosemary in bandana collars for their dogs. I don’t know how well it worked, but I saw a lot of dogs wearing them.
All kitties are CUTE!!!
I’m glad your oncology visit was just routine. Bad words for your insurance woes as well.
Thanks! (I’ve been told that I’m too mini for the rant thread so I just forget about the pit altogether.)
I’m sorry she’s leaving, time just goes so fast doesn’t it. I do hope you get a little cooking time before she goes.
They recognized my footsteps on the deck when I got home after work. I could see all their beady little eyes peering out at me hoping for a tasty fly or grasshopper. I had some very fat spiders out there.
Oh, I hadn’t realized that all of the views had been rudely taken away. I’d be rioting too, poor guy.
Gasps and staggers over to the fainting couch. I do hope nobody dies before the blessed caffeine is restored.
So I saw our catsitter’s grandfather (and owner of their home) today and had a chat over the fence. Before his stroke, he would come over and mow but he’s not up for it anymore so he bought his daughter a mower. She used it once and it hurt her back so didn’t mow again which is why Hubs was complaining. To me, not to them.
I told Grandfather that hubs was willing to mow her front yard when he did ours but he couldn’t get his mower through their back gate so wouldn’t be able to cut that part. Grandfather said NO, he has grandkids who need the money and they are the ones he will bring over to mow when it needs it.
I was able to tell hubs to leave her clover alone, so he will just complain to me instead of cutting it down for the sin of being a plant.
I was thinking about somewhere to go next week and realized that we have never done more than drive around the Greenbriar and haven’t actually been inside it. My first thought was to have dinner and then spend the night, but there is a dress code for the dining room and Hubs has never owned a sports jacket and ties just aren’t his thing.
I like their breakfast menu better than the lunch menu but both look nice. I think we might do it in the winter because that’s when the sleigh rides will be going.
So I’m still looking for something to do next week. The observatory looks interesting…
I cleaned and refilled all of the bird feeders and have read that feeding sunflower and safflower only for two weeks will chase the Starlings off. They don’t like either of those things and all of the other local birds love them. It is more costly, though. Sunflower seeds have almost quadrupled in price since Russia attacked Ukraine.
Howdy Y’all! 'Twas another rainy/drizzly day here. I am grateful of the rain as we have been in near drought conditions here and because it has helped the wild fires in southeast Jawja. However, we could use a few days break. The way it looks now, it might be Tuesday before mowage can be accomplished as that is a day of less rain chances say TWPTB. I don’t have any of my skool records. Then again, I never wanted 'em. Og knows what would be on my permanent record. Probably a list of all the teachers who had to go to alcohol recovery because of me.
MOOOOOOM just be thankful they didn’t ask for a copy of your permanent record on that application. They might have found out about the time you beat up Susie Smith and took her candy necklace.
puzzlegal bloomin’ locusts? I know they swarm, but had no idea they blossom as well!
Mollie Too bad the armadillo wouldn’t be friends with Chloé. Glad you’re goin’ to join the MTTA Discord. Sounds like a good place to chat with kindred spirits and perhaps rock ‘n roll. Hope the eye is feelin’ better.
Taters hope you had good luck at the :: shudder :: MAUL. :: shudder ::
JtC Poor GG and Jolene! It could be worse, however, You could get out the vacuum.
Cookie is Sadie givin’ you the look? The lack of a/c is definitely unacceptable. There should be a residents revolt.
Nuts What a catastrophe! The whole office should shut down until a new or fixed coffee machine is in place.
Frumious sorry you don’t have much more time (a week!) with Izzy. Do make the tiramisu together and think of me when you eat it. I do love me some tiramisu!
I napped. Now I’m up, having a Puritan and watching the Canes put a smackdown on the Habs. Life is good. Dinner will be Spicy Asian catfish nuggets, Soba noodles, and black bean garlic broccoli.
Sounds like you could use one, too. {{{{Lilly}}}}
That’s putting it mildly.
Been there, done that. My condolences.
That used to have a secret Government bunker under it. Which I’m sure the Russian had targeted. Which would have made an interesting t-shirt: “I went to the Greenbriar for my honeymoon and all I got was nuked.”
Many, many evil words were uttered in Middle Tennessee this evening.
I keep thinking about coming out on the board at large, but I have a couple of IRL friends who are not in the MMP. I love the liberation that coming out brings, but hate the worry of the weirdness to IRL friendships it could bring.
At the apartment in Tennessee, we had a lot of green space, including plenty of clover. Nelson always liked to nibble at the blossoms because they were sweet.
Have you ever grown sunflowers? They’re incredibly easy (it was always something Dad started us kids out with in the garden). For the birds, just hang a flower up for them to snack on.
You snuck in while I was posting so I’m back to say EEPS for you. That’s gotta hurt.
I will never forget that time over twenty years ago that Hubs cut up jalapenos and then didn’t wash his hands before peeing. He was rather loud and excited over it.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s 72 degrees Ferret Height(22.222 Centipedes). It’s also my Firday. And the Canes are eastern Conference champs. That is all.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 72 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 85 and possibly rainy later this mornin’. Or not. I will give it a wait and see for the next two - three hours and if there’s no rain, may attempt mowage. That is the big possible item on today’s agenda. OYKW wants Jack’s so burgers from there will be today’s main need to feed. There will, of course, be the usual RDOS sloth.
doggio yay for the Canes!
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, well, onward into mowage or sloth! Rah.
Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 21c/70f with a predicted high of 24c/75f and cloudy. Weather app says “It’s fucking dreich out. Please pronounce “dreich” like you’re spitting at the fucking sky.” But it’s not, it’s sunny and bright out there!
It’s a marathon, not a sprint, girl! You’ll get there, and it’s obviously important to both of you that Mrs Magill doesn’t feel left behind either. Don’t be hard on yourself, you’re navigating a lot of new territory.
The annoying thing about these requests is that they require us to provide everything about the person named in the document. We can exclude something where it’s just a spreadsheet with their name on, but they want everything that has any kind of commentary. It would narrow things down if they could tell us what the person is asking for, otherwise it’s a dump of a buttload of documentation. Good luck with the clothes shopping, that’s something I hate too but at some point I must find things to wear that don’t come under the heading “band t-shirt and leggings”.
I was half-expecting something like that, even though I’d already had to do an Excel skills test involving totalling up columns etc as part of the interview process. I’m sorry to hear about the work trauma too, that will make it a terrible environment unless someone’s got a spare coffee machine they can bring in.
Point him in the right direction and let him go!
That’s definitely unacceptable, especially for seniors. I would be seriously considering alternative accommodation at this point. There have been far too many maintenance issues with that place, you need to be somewhere with more reliable contractors.
Yesterday was a frustrating evening. I had no problems getting home from irk, which makes a change for a Friday. Tended to the needs of cats and was about to make dinner when 'im indoors started texting me from his mum’s house. He was trying to do something remote and techy with the server that’s he’s built, and which has crashed repeatedly lately. It meant I had to keep going up and down stairs to reboot, unplug, reconnect or otherwise fiddle with stuff upstairs, and then reboot something else downstairs. Dinner was delayed, and I was not particularly impressed with the extra activity. Bloody thing still doesn’t work.
I was up early this morning for a 7.30am session in the gym with Amrit, which went very well. Then I nipped home to get changed before heading off to the hairdresser to get frou-frou’d. As I was kind of pointing in the right direction, I went to the supermarket afterwards to get some bits and pieces. Got back home and 'im indoors is texting again because the disk is broken. Like I don’t know. I have to get some lunch, and do some errands, so more tinkering will happen but it’ll have to wait until I’ve got time for it. The cats need food, I need food, and I have to go out to buy more cat litter. Priorities, right?
Tis grey and threatening rain here today; I may visit the shops to acquire more wood for a garden bed shortly, but I think the main plan for the day is sloth. I should get a pet sloth, we’d have lots in common.
Laundry is in progress, so at least I should accomplish something with the day, however minimal.
64 Ferrets to start the day, headed to maybe mid-70s - a perfectly loverly day! And I slept almost 8 hours last night!! Partly due to exhaustion, partly the antihistamine I took. So I’m feeling human and rested for a change.
We’ll be playing electricians, which can be both rewarding and frustrating. What shall it be today?? Otis will come along. I’ve packed his lunch and some treats and I’m taking a water bowl and a chew toy (antler) to live on the boat. I just need to decide where it will live - maybe in the space under the stove?
I canceled the fire extinguishers I ordered last night. They promised free delivery, but it was after 8 PM and when I checked status, they were still trying to find a driver. It wasn’t that huge a deal - delivery was because I was lazy. We’ll be down that way today and I can just run in the store and get them. Or maybe tomorrow - it’s important but not vital at this particular moment.
We have a LOT of clover in the back yard, but I haven’t seen any bees. That worries me. Or maybe I just went out there at the wrong time? I do have to mow, but I’ll set the blades high and maybe that will save some of them, but there’s a lot of very tall weedy stuff that needs to be hacked back. Not today, tho. Probably. We’ll see.
Happy Saturday everyone. I’m enjoying coffee and a show this morning, the hummers are mobbing the fushias and feeders and the birds are at the seeds. We have red winged black birds here, they certainly aren’t what I imagined but they are still fun.
FCM I haven’t been seeing a whole lot of regular honeybees either. Not like last year and there is more reason for them to visit this year. My clover visitors are mostly all bumblebees. Folks have been talking about the lack of visible honeybees for a few weeks now, there are concerns.
Its currently 56F here with a high of 80F expected. We don’t have plans for the day but I’m thinking about going to the plant nursery in Nitro. Its a bit of a drive, lovely to be sure, and we try to stay home on the weekends, but traffic is way down lately and we have been seeing a lot of empty parking lots. I’m guessing our concerns about getting in the way of the working stiffs aren’t as valid anymore.
Yes, you do have your priorities straight!
I hope it starts cooling down for you folks, last night I saw vids of folks holding temp probes under their cold water tap to show that the water was almost scalding hot
That’s Arizona heat and folks there build and live to accommodate that sort of heat. Your homes aren’t meant to protect you from triple digit heat, you have cold to worry about. This sucks.
Well, that cup of coffee sure went away fast, I think I’ll have another and then get the day going.
Good morning. I am wearing shorts today. Spring has been here for a while, in fits and starts, tempting me with warm days and retreating. Right now, it’s 61 F outdoors, rising later to 77, so we’ll be opening the windows again today.
Yesterday, we called the bike shop to set up a pickup & delivery maintenance for my recumbent trike. That’ll happen Tuesday.
Shatterday, and it’s the first time I’ve opened this thread.
Years ago, Mrs. L.A. gave me a Hamilton Beach Breakfast Sandwich Maker (video link, 2:01) for Christmas. We haven’t used it in years, since I went on a low-carb diet. Yesterday, I got a text that she’d bought eggs. (I had them on my shopping list.) OK. When I got home, I saw a package of English muffins. She said I could make her ‘Egg McMuffins’, so that she wouldn’t eat co much of my (expensive - over $5) Sara Lee Delightful bread. So I got the maker out of the cupboard and wiped it down. I watched the linked video to remind me how to use it. She’ll get a muffin sandwich for breakfast. I haven’t decided if I’ll break my diet, or make my usual Carb Balance breakfast burrito.
ETA: Yesterday, I helped a couple at the credit union. After they left one of the financial service representatives sent me a Teams message: ‘Those were my parents!’ Her dad is younger than I am.
It’s 48F and cloudy. The clouds will part some of the way, giving us peeks of afternoon sunshine, and the expected daytime high is 64F.
This has been a relatively cool May. We get them every so often.
Exactly. It was so frustrating to pull everything to find out they really only needed one little thing.
Lily, I’m glad the visit was routine and didn’t produce unwanted surprises.
Frumious, I’m sorry Izzy’s visit will be cut a little short. I’m sure her parents miss her, too.
Filbert, I brought in my own personal coffee maker from where I last worked. I didn’t have to fuss with making coffee before I left home, and making it at the office became a treasured routine I still miss. I was the only one there that early in the morning, so I could make my coffee and savor it as I went through my numerous emails.
Well, after much schlepping through the mall (three hours!), I found an outfit. I did not, however, find new boulder holders. Macy’s is the only store that carries my particular bra brand, and they closed the Macy’s at the mall nearest my house. It’s very annoying. I tried on 20 or more different bras. The problem with that is that you can only have six items in the dressing room. So, I’d have to disrobe, try on the bras, get dressed, go out to find more bras, and then repeat the cycle. Remember, I’m also schlepping around (my admittedly small) purse, and the bag with the outfit I purchased. And ever since COVID, there is only ONE dressing room at that particular JCPenney. One, so I have to schlep back and forth across the store to get to the room or bras.
I’ve lost a little weight (not sure how), and my shape has changed. The band size I need has shrunk, but the girls have not. The brands I tried on did not have the right cup size. I tried on 4 different brands. I gave up in frustration.
After the shopping trip, I stopped by Jersey Mike’s at my husband’s request. He wanted to try their new chicken salad sub. And, they were out of celery, so that was a bust, too, so I just got his usual order.
Today, I have to go to the dollar store for party bowls, Lowe’s to get a new filter for my fridge, and Costco to pick up the salad fixings and dessert for tomorrow’s memorial service. If the timing is right, I may go to Kohl’s to try on boulder holders and get a pedicure at my usual place.
We’ll see how things go.
Tomorrow, I’ll be out of the house by 9:00 a.m., and I’m not sure when I’ll get back.
Alrighty, time to get going. Please take care of yourselves.
Morning all, peed at 5am, pilled at 6am, broke fast at 7am and…I got nothing. Only plan today is to watch the Champions League Soccer final at Noontime, just deciding if I want to go to the gym now or after the game. 67% chance of rain today and tomorrow, so still to damp to mow. Otherwise a day of sloth is indicated.
Taters, happy shopping. And safe travels.
And have read all but absorbed little, so yeahs, boo, hugs, tears, and anything else you are in need of.
