I’m up early and the overnighter’s missed their chance, so I’m setting the theme this time.
First! It’s good to be juvenile!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 72 Amurrkin out with light rain and a predicted high of only 82 with rain/tstorms/apocalypse all day. A good day to be inside and dry. We will hone our RDOS skills. Sup will be leftovers from Sattidy with whomp rolls.
My hearin’ aids are rechargeable as well. I do like that! The company I got ‘em from is called Nebroo. They were middle of the range price wise. So far, so good. BBBOO I used the “restaurant/store” settin’ for both the church and hall. The church has high vaulted ceilin’s which makes me wonder if the “movies/concert” settin’ would be better. I may try that next week. They are easy enough to adjust if it doesn’t feel right.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Happy Moanday Y’all!
Now that I’ve staked my claim (neener neener ), time for the substantive post.
Mornin’ all - Went to bed at a reasonable hour got up early at 0500. Been caffinatin’ until now. Planning to go to the beach early to greet the dawn in about 45 minutes. For now twilight is gathering with puffy clouds here and there and an occasional flicker of lightning out over the sea.
Despite the random disco party, it’s been a rough couple of days for me for several reasons, not just my late wife. But today dawns a new hope for new beginnings again.
I’ll have more commentary later when I’m not pressed for time. But I have kept up with everyone’s exploits yesterday.
Cheers all!
Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 19c/65f with a predicted high of 20c/69f and cloudy. Weather app says “It’s a totally fucking dreich day outside. Enjoy!” I will, I like a bit of cloudy and overcast weather over that shiny stuff any day.
Pilot thanks for starting this off on a positive note. I’m sorry you’ve had a rough few days, totally understandable, but it’s good that you are always looking to the future too. There are bound to be good things coming your way!
I was in bed at a reasonable hour last night too, and up at my usual time today. Cats have been fed and fussed, litter trays are clean and everyone’s snoozing. I took ‘im indoors to the station to get his train this morning, logged into irk and found there were very few dramas to contend with.
I’ve caught up with both my minions after my week off, our team manager has called in sick with a migraine so that quite possibly means she’ll be off tomorrow too. Other than that, it’s been a pretty decent morning. I have grocery shopping to do at lunchtime, and I am planning a visit to the gym after I finish irk as I need to undo some of the damage caused by a very sociable July
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. I shall do my Aldi run at some point, and stop for lunch anna beer. It’s currently 62 degrees Ferret Height(18.3 Centipedes) with a Heat Index of 68F(20C). Looks like I picked a good week for vacation.
And I hope the New Hope is the girlfriend showing up to spend time with you, and not your roasted cyborg ninja dad.
Windows remain open, a/c remains off, and the week promises to be mild for summer. We might see some rain on Weds if the weather guessers guessed correctly.
I’ll be calling to order this winter’s supply of pellets - can’t believe it’s that time already! I get a card about this time every year with the pre-season sale. We only need 2 tons this year since we still have about half a ton left from last year. When we started ordering from this company, we paid $199/ton. It’s now up to $279/ton, plus $25/ton delivery charge. The first couple of years, we picked them up ourselves, a ton at a time. But between the cost of gas and the labor of stacking them up ourselves, we’ll pay for delivery. Plus they’ve since gotten a different truck and one of those pallet jacks, so no more carrying the bags in. They park the entire pallet, and even take away all the plastic that wraps it. Definitely worth $50! Anyway, I’ll call today.
I’ll have a go at some yard work, too. Once upon a time, I’d plan to spend the whole day out there. Today, I’m hoping to last 2 hours, if my back allows. I’ll try to remember some preemptive ibuprofen, too. There’s some serious weeding needed on the corner hill. I’d love to get it terraced, but I suspect it would cost waaaaaaay more than I want to spend on a non-essential. FCD estimates $12-14K, so, yeah, waaaaaaaay more. I’ll start with weeding, then think about what’s next.
Part of the problem is the crappy soil - lots of clay hereabouts. Also that area gets full afternoon sun, so getting anything established is a challenge. I’d love to cover the entire area with creeping thyme, but I’m not sure it would take. I should go talk to the local nurseries for suggestions. I need a ground cover that will choke out weeds and not require a lot of fuss on my part. Or a lot of $$$…
So after FCD gets up, I’ll get cleaned up so I can get grubby.
Happy Moanday!!
Hoping for new beginnings, Pilot.
I’ve given myself until 7:30 to sit here, so I’d better type fast.
Congrats to JtC on getting rid of RLS. It is positively evil.
I’ve once again moved my desk to a different location and will see if it works better. This move is so that Annie can have her normal chair beside me when I work. Since I found out that it’s ok for your dog to be present, I want to put her in a place where she’s comfortable and I don’t have to worry about her getting hurt while I’m working. It’s no big deal to move her chair back and forth during the day, it’s about 15 steps from one location to the other.
Have a good vacation, doggio!
Fingers crossed and hugs for pilot.
Still got a few minutes, but I’ll feel better if I get up and go back to work now.
You might look into the zillions of sedum. Some are rather delicate, but I’ve had varieties that are incredibly robust and spread quickly. (Plus they bloom midsummer, and are very drought tolerant.)
There’s mint, if you’re feeling adventurous …
I’m up stoopit early for a Blessed Day Off … but it occurred to me that I haven’t had a Wendy’s “square shaped breakfast ‘croissant’ thingie” in a while, and I’m hoping a full tummy will lull me back to sleep.
I’m not usually up early enough to get one (breakfast ends at 10:30! what are we, peasants?) so I’m about to embark on a mission.
Morning, all. A nice 66F in the Twin Cities this morning, and I can see blue skies peaking through, so most all of the smoke has moved on.
Sadie put in a brief appearance, but to play, not to be fed. When I declined to play this early in the morning, she jumped up on the chair arm and bumped noses to try to convince me. No dice, little girl. She went off in a huff; or maybe it was a minute and a huff (waggles eyebrows).
Not much scheduled today that I’m aware of other than an exercise session.
Some great photos on FB. My granddaughters’ aunt takes them on a road trip every summer to someplace outside of their comfort zone. This year she gave them their first plane ride ever and took them to Boston and other parts of New England. Also their first look at an ocean. Quite possibly the best auntie who ever lived.
Hi all - I’m back from sunrise beaching and a quick stop to feed. I even got the first steps of two nagging chores done when I got home. Go me!
I’ve always been a real believer in the saying “If you do what you always did, you’ll get what you always got.”. The problem of course is that it’s so seductively desirable to continue doing what you always did while hoping somehow deus ex machina to get something different this time. and is so much better than instead of.
Good MMorning! I got up late, due to alarm clock/damn-fool human interface. So, here I am, well-rested and starting the second cup of coffee. Maybe I’ll remember to turn the alarm back on. Maybe.
It’s 64 ferrets out there, and sunny/smoky. Later, there will be 82 ferrets and partly cloudy/smoky. That’s a pleasant number of ferrets for the 4th of August.
54 years ago today, I started working at General Motors. 34 years later, I retired, comfortably. God bless the UAW and GenMot.
I think I’ll open the windows today.
I’ve had my dry, flavorless bits, and Spot has had his. Now I guess I’ll putter about till it’s a reasonable time to do lunch.
A blend I make. Salt, peppercorns, rosemary, thyme, parsley, sage, oregano, and dried garlic, blended up and rubbed on my meat.
That’s why I like Bojangles. If I get a gnawin’ and a carvin’ for a chicken biuscuit post meridian, I can have one!
Grab any Cadillac parts on the way out?
Basically you need a Thyme Lord.
Spot was disappointed that there was no ice cube soccer this morning.
Good morning.
It’s 60°F and mostly cloudy. It’ll remain generally cloudy all day, and the expected daytime high is 75°F.
Pilot, I’m sorry you’ve had a rough few days.
JtC, I’m happy to read you were able to solve the RLS problem. I very occasionally deal with that, and I couldn’t imagine having that discomfort all the time.
Other than watering all the plants in both the front and backyards, and rinsing the damn aphids off one of my potted front patio plants, I didn’t do much of anything in the yard. The hydrangeas needed a deep drink, and I took care of that, too. Stupid aphids, everything was fine, and then the day after the roofers left, I noted my giant plant on the porch was looking droopy and sad, despite plenty of moisture. Then I saw all the tiny black specks; yep, aphids of a sort. I rinsed that plant off completely and gave it some water. For good measure, even though I didn’t see evidence of them, I rinsed the second big basket too. Yesterday morning, the second pot was looking sad, and a lot of the blooms had shriveled. So, both pots received a good rinse, again. I’ve tried insecticidal soap in the past, but it didn’t help. Some years, I luck out, and my baskets look stellar well into fall; some years, they’re attacked. This is an attack year, sigh.
I also spent part of yesterday clearing the kitchen desk and some of the counters. Stuff starts to accumulate, and it stresses me out. I also threw out some things from the way back of the pantry that had expired since the last pantry clean. However, my garbage can is full, so the complete pantry cleanout will have to wait. My husband likes to leave stuff out on the counter, and I hate that. Then more stuff accumulates, like the bread, the seasonings he uses to cook, the oils, everything. It drives me nuts. Yesterday, I cleaned it all up.
I also vacuumed upstairs, and will finish the downstairs today. I should do some laundry, too.
I contacted one of my former peers yesterday and told her I was thinking of coming to visit the office, as I had promised earlier. I wanted to ensure she’d be there, and she assured me she would be present. I’m looking forward to seeing her and most of the others who worked there. I’ll visit for just a bit, and maybe grab some lunch with her, and then I’ll head home.
Well, I should get my day started. You all take care of yourselves.
Here
are some of the ground covers native to sunny Merryland.
Every kid needs an auntie or uncle or a non-parental grown up like that!
A good share of my family, at least the generation before mine, retired from UAW jobs. They were able to retire, mostly early, with their finances in good shape. By the time that I got into the auto industry, GM was into non-union subsidiaries for a lot of things (I worked for one) and eventually shipped those jobs offshore (what happened to mine). We need more jobs like yours that built the middle class up.
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. I have to go back to the PCP office once sheveled to get the correct form for the DMV and my permanent gimp tag. It should take longer to drive there and back than to get it filled out. I may stop at the farmer’s market there too. I also need to stop somewhere for another roll of packing tape just in case the remainder of the one that I have isn’t enough. Other than that it’s another packing day.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
Well, lah-dee-dah for you, but Teh Googlez inform me the closest is over 200 miles away from my happy ass.
Morning all. Slept in until nearly 8:30am today, so getting started late for me. Got a notification that my prescription refills are ready so I will head there before doing the usual shop-n-sammich routine. Like many others, it’s a nice day out, 71F heading to 78F and a 1-in-6 chance of rain.
Pilot, I hope the new beginnings prove out and things get better. And yeah, my life can be beaver-like–the same dam thing over and over–but I try to travel and do some things each year I have never done before.
swampy, glad your haring aids can be adjusted, mine aren’t (at least not programmed for it) and might look to upgrade them.
boo fae, have a good work and gym day.
FCM, think getting 2 tons of anything delivered is a good idea. I’ve got a section of back yard that is under my neighbor’s tree shade, so very little grass grows there, but it’s not worth it to try and get something done about it.
Sticky Buns, hope Annie likes the new arrangement.
Shoe, hope the Mission: Delicious in your case.
Cookie, my brother and I had a uncle that took us on road trips during our teenage years around the USA, it had a lot o do with my wanting to travel around places, so good for your granddaughters.
Knotts, happy retirement anniversary, been about 10 years for me.
Taters, good luck in the aphid riddance program. And ma the office visit be pleasant and not to melancholy.
And off I go. Have a good week all.
Back from erranding. Aldi had everything I wanted except for tissues in the small box. Oh well, next time. Stoopit Teeter didn’t have the diet A&W. Dammit. But I did pick up FCD’s meds, tho I forgot to stop at Food Lion for his rye bread. Dammit. However, I did go to Forrest Hall Farms and get some cukes and ‘maters. Which brings me about to lunch time.
I passed a nursery just off Loveville Road and I think I’ll head over there and talk to their landscape folks. After lunch. I need a sammich about now. Plus going there is an excuse to avoid weeding for a while longer. Because ick!
Someone was shot and killed at Pursuit Church in Seattle last week. The pastor was wearing a red hat that said ‘Make Prayer Great Again’. Red hat, red flag. Our pastor is on vacation, so the fellowship was opened by the guitarist after the band’s first song. (His wife is a singer.) He said they were friends of the Pursuit pastor. Hm. This morning I googled pursuit church seattle political leanings, and AI said it’s conservative. There was a Facebook link to a post where the pastor demanded an apology from the mayor for transgressions against his church. In the post, he mentioned ‘antifa thugs’. Both ‘antifa’ and ‘thug’ are well-known far-right code words. I’m betting the Seattle pastor is MAGA.
So here’s the guy in my wife’s church who says he’s friends with the Seattle pastor. A member of the fellowship left a few weeks ago over a disagreement over scripture. Given the number of adopted children (foreign-born people of colour, special needs, and U.S.-born caucasians) in the congregation, I sort-of thought the fellowship might not be conservative. But the connection to the Seattle guy bothers me.
Mrs. L.A. is a devout Christian, and church is important to her. I wouldn’t go, but it’s important to her that I do. I can’t ask anyone who knows, why the guy left the fellowship a few weeks ago. If I ask questions, it might bring undue scrutiny on me and reflect badly on my wife. So I’ll just have to observe and assume. [NB: Mrs. L.A. is very much anti-Trump, as I am.]

I can’t ask anyone who knows, why the guy left the fellowship a few weeks ago.
What a mess.

Mission: Delicious
T’was indeed, and highly worth the incredible bother of yanking on an old college sweatshirt (hook ‘em!) and some not-so-fresh PJ pants outta the laundry pile.
Doubt the drive-thru lady gave a flying fuck.
Don’t judge my fancy dress-up. I ate the whole entire thing, PLUS a slice of frozen/ovened garlic bread, once I got back home and decided I was still hungry.
I’ve learned, if I want something, anything to eat, to prepare/fix/eat it NAOW, because in about five minutes, I’ll be all “meh” about it.
Am attempting to get my brain to STFU so nappage can ensue.
