Moving On Up - A New Neighbor MMP

So new neighbors moved in across the way this weekend. I haven’t met them, but judging by the stuff on their porch, they have a kid and either a dog, or they kennel the kid at night. And judging by the shouting, one of them likes to escape, and run amok.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. Hijack away!

All of a sudden, it’s getting REAL!!! We have 3 days to get ready for our cruise, and I have Toby all 3 of those days and I have to pick up Roxy after school on Weds, which will cut into last-minute panic day! What am I gonna do???

I want to bring the suitcases up and open them to air out. I’m sure they need it after sitting in the basement for so long. Last night, I made copies of our vaccination cards, but I forgot about making a copy of the first page of our passports, so that’s on today’s list. In fact, I should make a list…

And I need to contact the bus company’s insurance company since the woman who owns the company won’t do it. I really want them to cover our deductible. So that has to get done today. And there’s probably other stuff I’ve forgotten about.

Speaking of new neighbors, unless it’s Ben next door, I don’t think I’d notice a new neighbor - mainly because I don’t know any of them. We’re not anti-social - it’s just that when we first moved here, we were both working all week, then doing chores all weekend, so there wasn’t a lot of chance to encounter anyone. Especially when you consider how spread out the houses are - most lots here are 3 acres, and a few are even bigger. I’ve said hi to a few dog-walkers on occasion, but that’s about it. So unless I actually saw a moving van, I’d have no clue whether the neighbors were new or long-time.

That was an issue when I was still working, since I had a security clearance. When they had to do my 5-year reinvestigation, they asked for names of neighbors to talk to, and acted like then didn’t believe me when I told them I didn’t know any. The only reason I know Ben’s name is that we occasionally get his mail by mistake. Maybe it was a big LONER!!! red flag but I kept my clearance till I retired.

And so begins my day. I’m caffeinating till I have to take Roxy to school and bring the little drool-machine here. I hope my cough is done - I had to take a snort of Nyquil last night to suppress it, and so far today, so good. So, onward!!

Happy Moanday!!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 47 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 81 and N.O.S. for the day. Cleanin’ lady comes today to spiff da cave. That is the big excitatement of the day. Sup shall be roast beast 'n gravy done in the crockpot, rice, collard greens, squishes and corn bread. Thus shall my day be occupied along with the usual sloth.

I know the neighbor on one side of me pretty well. I kinda sorta know the neighbors on the other side of me. I know butthole across the road. Can y’all guess I don’t like him? I don’t think anybody does, really. Everybody knew everybody in the 'hood I grew up in, but guess it’s not so much that way anymore.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Moanday Y’all!

My relationships with my neighbors are pretty casual at best, mostly “Hi, how are you?” if we cross paths or getting misdelivered packages to their rightful owners. The only reason I remember one guy’s name is that he’s the leasing manager for the complex.

Mr. Orange is back at my end of the complex, looking like he got in a scuffle with something and apparently hungry. I gave him some kibble, treats, and canned food, with a dish of water. He didn’t seem to really want to come in to avail himself of Allie’s dishes, and she was hissy about seeing him. She may just have to deal. At the rate we’re going, we may have another cat sometime in the not-too-distant future, if he decides he wants us.

Good morning everyone.

It’s somewhat windy and damp here. The current temp is 36 degrees.

I know one of my next-door neighbors. We don’t like each other, but I try to remain cordial. We’ve had a few disagreements and I do my best to ignore her. I don’t know the other next-door neighbor(s). Some sleazebag bought the house and turned it into a rental with numerous people living there. They all “no speak English” so no one can talk to them about their multiple cars parked in the street (a no-no) here. Most of the other neighbors that I knew have moved.

It was snowing yesterday evening, but nothing stuck. We’re supposed to see more this morning, but we haven’t seen any so far. Besides, it’s about four degrees too warm for snow at the moment. Once the sun comes up, the temps will drop, but they won’t drop enough for snow (I think). At any rate, this weekend’s freaky weather is another reason I don’t have any new flowers and plants in the ground. I knew we weren’t out of the 30-degree woods yet.

I have another busy work week ahead of me and it’s my five-day week, so it’ll seem extra long. I do know that I should be receiving my telework paperwork, finally. I plan on going on two to three days a pay period and those days will probably be Mondays and one midweek day.

Well, I should finish my coffee and finish reading the news and whatnot. After that I’ll empty the dishwasher and load up the strays that have gathered in the sink before I head upstairs to work.

Mornin’ all. I have a lovely day of deep cleaning the shop planned. I’m actually looking forward to it. I get to throw away a whole bunch of odd little cut-off pieces of plywood and laminate. I can sweep the whole place. This will be fun. I have some parts coming for the next project tomorrow, so I wanna get the place cleaned and organized while I can.

Stay safe, y’all!

It’s rainy here, and Mr. Orange (who seems to be on his way to being renamed Buddy) is ambivalent about whether he wants to be inside or not. Allie is not being a gracious hostess, and even giving both of them catnip doesn’t seem to be mellowing her out. They’ll work it out, cats do.

Big kaboom-type thunder-rumbles overnight, but all is quiet (albeit soggy) in the western Mitten State this morning.

Off to irk after this here bowl o’cereal. Gonna { checks schedule } pfffft NOT bother with makeup today.
… speaking of, what the hell kind of a shift is 10-3 ?!? Dammit, I can’t keep the wolves away on that!

… but it will be nice to have a lazy afternoon to play a slow, gentle catch-up on stuff that’s been put off.

Morning, all. After a spate of temps in the 90s, we are back to a week or so in the 60s. No matter…the too hot to stand it weather will be here soon enough. My students finished state testing Friday, so I can actually do my job this week and teach rather than just proctoring tests they don’t take seriously and don’t matter much anyway.

The neighboring (bigger) town is actually showing some sense in downtown redevelopment, which will be a first. Metro-Link is extending their commuter line all the way into Redlands, mainly at the request of ESRI, the biggest employer around. After a stop at their main campus, the line ends in the middle of downtown, where they are building a 5 story parking structure with associated businesses. The restaurants are outstanding, and the line goes right past my favorite brewpub in town. Just the thing for tired commuters after work! It’s a nice shake-up to a rather pedestrian scene.

Fly low, stay cool, and carry on.

Woke up to a half inch of snow on the ground. In Portland. In April. It’s supposed to be near freezing at night all week and possibly more rain/snow mix coming. Very unsettled weather for this time of year. The roads just look slushy, but I’m pretty sure the West Hills area is a mess.

Gotta get the freezer emptied out in the next few weeks. I’m going to grind up the two remaining frozen flank steaks today, mix it with a half pound of ground lamb, and make a giant meat loaf, or maybe two smaller ones.

Morning all. Eating out at 5 Guys Sunday night must have mellowed me out since I apparently didn’t post yesterday evening. Got my sheets changed and slept my allotted 8 hours, so ready to start the new week…and of course it’s raining outside now. It is due to get near 70F today and all the way to 78F tomorrow, so that’s nice. Need to shop and bank and swim today, I think soccer may get called off.

I know my neighbor on the left side of me well enough to exchange Xmas gifts, and I say hello and chat for a bit with the ones across the street. On my other side is a house that’s being rented out and people seem to come and go quickly, so I seldom have a chance to meet anyone there. House has been empty for awhile and recently got a new roof installed, considering how busy the market is I really wonder what the inside looks like…

Dangit, Cookie, I want to vacation out in Portland in Mid-May! Your weather had better get it’s act together…

Seanette, good luck with the Feline truce talks…

FCM, I leave 4 May for my trip, like you things will sort of gang up on me at the end of April, but we’ll both make it.

doggio, let us know if it’s the dog or the kid running amok…about the same level of damages, I would think…

OK, onward into the day. All y’all have a good week now.

So we did the run this weekend (or in my case the really fast walk with occasional running thrown in). Both overlygirl and I needed naps afterward - it wasn’t the distance, I think it was just that it was a break in our regularly scheduled Saturday sloth. I’m struggling to upload pictures but so far unsuccessfully - I’ll try again in a sec.

We didn’t get quite as blasted with color as we expected, but we also ran through all the color stations instead of stopping to inhale large quantities of powdered paint. Still, definitely worth it we’ll do it again next year.

It’s Moanday.

Mr. Bladder woke me up at 01:26. I turned on the bedside lamp, and it didn’t turn on. I went round and round with the switch, and then checked the bulb was tight. No joy. Then I noticed the clocks were off, and realised the power was out. I took the generator in for servicing Saturday, and probably won’t get it back until Wednesday. Made it to the toilet with a flashlight, went back to bed wondering if I’d be able to work today, and about 10 minutes later there was a load beep from the living room and the bedside light came on. I got up and set the time and the timer on the coffee maker. I’ll reset the clocks on the stove and the microwave oven later.

Our database person said I’d sent a duplicate file Thursday. It doesn’t look like it to me, so I’m processing it from scratch, which is a PITA.

The Big Credit Reporting Agency that changed their upload interface last month still hasn’t fixed the issue. Strangely, I can send data to some folders, but not others. No ETA on a fix. I think I’ll try uploading data that was successfully sent, to one of the folders that didn’t work. The formats will be different and that may cause a failure, but if it does upload then that would indicate that their system is not accepting the correct format.

Morning all.

Mrs W and I are generally on a smile-and-nod basis with the neighbors. They’re all nice enough, but we haven’t become best friends or anything.

The house on one side belonged to an older couple when we moved here and we never heard a peep from them. (Their son came by often; nice guy.) sadly, the wife passed away not long after we arrived, and a few years later the husband moved to an assisted care facility.
The house got sold to two 30-ish guys who work at a VA hospital. They rent out rooms to recently-discharged veterans who need help adjusting back to civilian life, so there’s a rotating cast of about 5 or 6 young men there at a time. You’d think that would be a nightmare situation, but it hasn’t been a problem. We run into one of the owners at the local tavern occasionally, and we like him. He enforces strict house rules about noise and visitors and is very mindful of being a good neighbor.

On the other side is a multi-generational Chinese family. They have… 4? 5? a bunch of kids ranging from drives-a-car to elementary school, and a set of grandparents live with them. Not sure where they fit everybody, but they are all friendly enough, and surprisingly quiet. Which is good in this part of San Francisco, where the houses literally touch each other.

I got offered a ticket to the Giants game tonight. It’s going to yo be COLD (49° at game time), but dry. The all-day apocalyptic deluge the WPTB kept predicting turned out to be some overnight drizzles that are pretty much already done.
So I’m going. It’s my last baseball season the Bay Area and I’m getting to as many Giants and A’s games as I can!

So we were short handed again. I think all of our loaders got Raptured. And took the tape with 'em.

Either way somebody is gonna lose his Skittles at some point.

You’ll be fine. This is very unusual weather for April. I’m really hoping the forecast is correct and that this system will move on fairly quickly. Portlanders are afraid to drive when it snows even the least bit and we’re supposed to have our packers here on Thursday.

Happy Moonday!

It was a cold 32 degrees this morning, and since Barky was going, I skipped going to the park. Cold and barking is more than I want to deal with.
Unknown, as far as I know, nobody has said anything to her yet. My friend who goes over to the small side when Barky is there said the dogs were barking away. Two other people showed up, one left because of the barking and the other went over to the small side with him.
I told him since he was sitting there, he should call and complain, while it is happening.

I’m starting to get pissed about it, because none of this would happen if she would just work with her dogs.

My mother is going in for a PET scan tomorrow. Weird restrictions, she isn’t allowed to do anything strenuous, and has to limit her carbs.
Then her first treatment should be Thursday.
I’ve been a bit irritated with my son lately, he’s being a bit… lazy, and irritable. I think it’s because he is worried about his grandmother, but he won’t talk about it.

I was a sloth again yesterday, and I am having company tomorrow, so I should be in panic cleaning mode, but I’m not.
My old neighbors are coming over with their puppy, so it should be a nice visit, and warm enough to sit outside so the dogs can play.
I got along with those neighbors and really miss having them next door. That house has been empty since they moved out. I wave at the next neighbors down, but if I saw them out somewhere, I probably wouldn’t recognize them. I really like the neighbor on the other side of me, and I am so glad her house has been cleaned out. She is supposed to be back home by the end of April. I don’t like the next neighbor up, so I ignore her.
Beyond that, I have a vague idea of who lives in the next few houses each way.
Across the street is all rentals now, nobody is ever there long enough for me to really notice. Well, I couldn’t help but notice the Screeching Banshee and Big-Mouthed Buffoon, but they moved. I also seldom use my front door, so I don’t see them much. Behind me, only one neighbor I know by sight.
There used to be a nice-looking man across the street and a few doors up. He would wear a wife beater when he mowed the lawn. Sadly, he moved.

I supposed I should give the Big black and white cat a name. We have a lot of cats that run the neighborhood, unless they have a collar, I have no idea if they are stray. There are quite a few neighbors who put out food for them.
This is a very animal friendly area.

This week is going to be a bitch with things I have to do.
I need to quit slothing.

Happy Moanday!

As resident of one of the Catholic cantons in Switzerland, this week is the first of many short weeks. No work on Friday, or Monday, so that’s two short weeks in a row.

Still not doing much except work, so maybe we’ll get outside a bit more. Grass is suddenly getting long, after turning brown due to the lack of rain.

I have a building meeting tonight to discuss the new solution for the heating. Hope it goes well, but I‘m sure there will be some heated discussion.

Morning, mumpers! I am thoroughly enjoying being away from my neighbours! The people on one side have a big dog that spends most of its time outside and barks at everything, for hours at a time. The husband is known as Arseface. The people on the other side are Polish - mother (Sour Doughnut) appears to speak one word of English, and the two teenage kids are loud and annoying. Across the road is a guy with a very loud motorbike who goes out very early and revs the bike for ages…he’s known as Putt Putt Fuck Fuck.

Lovely sunny morning here in Joseph, OR. Snow on the mountains and the occasional flurry but nothimg serious. Good job sonce the car and I are not prepared for that! We had breakfast and are off for a walk around the town then off to explore a local lake area.

Toby napped for a bit over 3 hours. He’s been changed, fed, played with, and now he’s in his swing for a little bit. In about 30 minutes, we’ll head to Leonardtown so I can give him back to hi mom.

Gotta decide what to do for supper. Other than that, not much.
