(Old) Airmail in the MMP

I’m excited for you and hope you see many more! Are you also going to plant Milkweed? If so, be sure to look up what is native for your area and do NOT plant tropical milkweed. It is a very popular landscaping plant and many good intentioned folks plant it without knowing that it isn’t good for the Monarchs.

Native milkweed turns brown and dies back in the late fall, tropical milkweed stays green which fools the butterflies into staying and laying eggs to die in the first freeze while they die while trying to migrate too late.

And now he’s mowing AGAIN! Damnit!!!

I’d hide the sparkplugs but that would only last until he drove a couple of miles to the car parts store and replaced them.

Warning: whining ahead. Read on at your own risk.

Otis is on The List. We didn’t take him with us, so he decided to chew up one of our bike rear-view mirrors (not yet installed - he took it off the sewing machine) as well as the cover of my tablet (no damage to the device, luckily.) Bottom line, we can’t leave him home alone.

On the plus side, we got the boat paperwork straightened out (for $70) and ran the hose for the manual bilge pump. Plus checked some electrical wires and a few other miscellaneous things. And on the way home, we saw gas for under $4, so FCD topped off. Then I had to run some errands, so I topped of my car, too.

Home. Chilling, I guess. All in all, not a great day. Oh well…

He’s definitely not Amish. :stuck_out_tongue: He just lives in an area with Amish and other plain folk who know who hires out for rides. No licensing is involved, you just know a guy who knows a guy.

A call to the infectious disease doctor was a bust. They don’t take my insurance. Now we have to find one that does. Crap!

Howdy Y’all! Duties got did and I made it back to da cave just before the rain started. It has rained off and on all day. The grass has shot up sump’n fierce with all the rain this past week. A few more days of rain are predicted still. We accomplished nappage and day drinkin’. Then sup got fixed and et. Thus is the news from swampland.

WetOne hope you’re feelin’ less sinusy by now. A lay around day sounds like a plan to me.

red happy doggy/house sittin’!

{{{Taters}}} what a tough situation to deal with! I am fortunate that neither of my ‘rents got to the needs assisted livin’/nursin’ home stage. Maybe someone who specializes in elder care law would be helpful. I hope everyone can agree on what is needed for you mom to have the needed level of care she needs.

Mollie I hope the contacts work out for ya.

JtC I have to admit that watchin’ skeeters get zapped with lasers would be a ton o’ fun to watch.

doggio those dang whippersnappers and their goldang unexpected pizza deliveries!

Evening all. Did make it to the gym for a couple hours and got home before the rains came (and they are still here). Cheeburger and some pudding and applesauce pods filled me back up and outside of maybe watching some of the basketball nothing too active is planned. Since we had the holiday on Monday, the garbage folks won’t be here until tomorrow, so might even put my stuff out to the curb (only have half a bin full).

red, sounds like your dad has a practical solution and hopefully it’ll continue to work out into the future. And good luck on the Doctor h

Yeah, mine too. I should have cut it this afternoon when it was drying out but figured there was only a 1-in-4 chance of rain so I’d do it tonight…decided I probably do not want to go to Las Vegas for a summer vacation…

JtC, if hubs wants to play with lawns, he’s welcome to mine anytime… And I rather think you underestimate yourself, my dear, compared to the general population…

52, never got into the continuing education, I once thought about going back to college for my Masters after retirement but never got around to it and not going to start that at 73.

FCM, you may have to consider buying an oversized kennel and boxing him whenever you go out; not what you want to do, but if after this much time he still gets into stuff…

And if I don’t get back for the late night final, catch y’all tomorrow once the Great Firday Shopping trip is over (list and coupons are ready to go).

We were gone for 7 hours - can’t leave him crated that long, especially after being crated all night. We should have just taken him to the boat. Next time, we will.

BTW - check out the “Antarctic” map on my FB feed - you’ll love it!

Glad tomorrow is laundry day - I need a break!!

I napped. I had a Mai Tai, baked fried chicken, and cheesy **N.O.T.**s. Watching Peaky blinders.

He wants a copy of his Permanent Record?

dang whippersnappers!

{{{{red}}}}

Have you considered building a covered dog run outside? My late sweetie built one when he fenced his yard in for his English setter. He also fenced in his vegetable garden because Duke the dog liked to wallow in it and the urban deer population saw it as a snack.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s a chilly 64 degrees Ferret height(17.778 Centipedes) outside.

Had a doctor’s appointment about starting hormone therapy due to increased scatterbrainness since having both ovaries removed 8 months ago.

Had to go to my appointment without my phone because I misplaced it between the time I decided to get ready to go out the door and actually went out the door. So I was well-prepared.

After my appointment, hubby helped by calling my phone. It was in the drawer in the bathroom. That is not an approved place for setting down my phone.

So I have meds. And the doctor wants to move up my mammogram, which would be at the end of the year. So I have that to look forward to as well.

(Thank Dog It’s Friday)

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 16c/60f with a predicted high of 22c/71f and cloudy. Weather app says “This is a great fucking day if you burn easily like I fucking do. Fuck the sun.” Yes, I’ve been thinking the same for days, since I burn to a crisp!

I’m not a horse person but it’s always interesting to me to find out what other people do for the animals they love.

That sounds like a very good idea, I am sure you would benefit from professional advice on what to do for the best, or at least the consequences of different routes you could take. I’m sorry your husband wasn’t as supportive as you wanted too, perhaps he feels out of his depth and unable to help?

That sounds like kind of good news, you know that things are possibly still changing so you have things you can try until you find what’s going to be right for you.

It was cooler last night, and it helped a lot that I’ve been at home so I’ve been able to have windows open to help the cats keep cool. We’re hopefully due to see temperatures drop back to something more normal as the jet stream moves around a bit.

We did, we were very lucky to see one as they had been popping up almost everywhere but where I live. A couple of my friends got some spectacular pics of lightning that got shown on the local news.

You’ll have to start training your own battalion of attack squirrels.

I am sure all of my old school stuff got “lost” in a housemove at some point. Made me laugh too, when I accepted a permanent job at the uni, I was asked to provide proof of my English and Maths qualifications (because they’re basic requirements of the job). Aside from the fact that I took those exams about 30 years ago (and they’re vastly different from what kids these days take), I had absolutely no idea where the bits of paper might be. I resisted the urge to laugh in HR’s face, and just asked if they would accept any of my degree certificates instead.

Yesterday turned out to be busier than expected because several someones wanted information urgently about 10 minutes before I was due to log out of work. Fortunately I was able to find all the bits they wanted (it’s for a freedom of information/subject access request) but it was one of those things that our legal team demand and then expect us (meaning, me) to be able to dredge up infrom from 2018-2023 involving lots of potential sources. I’ve done what I can, but a bit more notice would have been nice.

I logged out and made campus food for today, then had a cuppa and went to Spin. There’s a new instructor at the gym who’s taken on two classes a week. Most bizarre class I’ve done in all my years of spin sessions. For those that have tried it before…everything was done with no resistance, no sprints, no climbs, just constant pedalling and all of it standing as well. I went home and had some dinner, then vegged on the sofa for a while before giving the cats their evening treats, and heading to bed.

Today I’m on campus, the commute wasn’t too bad and there’s only two of us in the office today. Both my minions are at home, and I should (fingers crossed) have a quiet day here. Let’s see how that works out…

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 70 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 85 with rain/tstorms/apocalypse beginnin’ around five p.m. It seems to have rained appreciably durin’ the night. I could possibly accomplish mowage later this mornin’. Or not. I’m sure it will take a while for the grass to dry out enough. Outside of that possibility I foresee a day of RDOS sloth. Sup will be various leftovers that need to get et up.

red that sucks about the doc. Hope you can find one that accepts your insurance soonest.

BooFae may today remain quiet.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Firday Y’all!

The day has started with 54 Ferrets, headed into the 70s with much sun - a beeyooteefull spring day! It also started with this which made me think of JtC.

The outside isn’t a problem. He has 2 fenced acres for frolic. It’s when he comes inside that the mayhem ensues. And locking him outside, especially when it starts getting really hot, is a bad option. He seems to get overheated really fast, what with the black coat and running amok. He just doesn’t like being alone. He does fine on the boat, so he’ll just have to go with us from now on.

That’s a new one on me. Right up there with leaving it in the freezer! Glad you found it easily.

This made me think - MIL apparently didn’t save any of the school stuff from her kids. Before she died, she sorted thru photos and divided them among the 3, but there were no report cards or trophies or certificates or anything like that. My mom didn’t save a lot (what with 5 kids and a small house) but she did give me my report cards and a few miscellaneous things. Then again, I didn’t save a lot of my daughter’s school papers either.

BooFae - I seem to recall I had a job application where I was asked about my elementary school - the one I left in 1968! At the time, I had an engineering degree, so why would anyone care where I went to school when I was a pre-teen?? Weird bureaucracies…

And it’s laundry day, with, perhaps, a side of some yard work between loads. Someone is supposed to come today and get an old boat mattress that I’m giving away - freeing up a chunk of floor space in the garage. Beyond that, I’m not sure what will happen.

But for now, Happy Firday!!

I didn’t sleep well. I’m still mostly asleep. Gotta go get coffee.

Morning all. Quick note before doing the Great June Shopping run. Have broken fast with pancakes and syrup and will start the dishwasher before I leave. May also do my braunschweiger run today instead of Saturday and need to pick up my dry cleaning this afternoon. All this while dodging raindrops. Such an exciting Firday…temperature is not due to make it to 80F today, so a bit cooler.

FCM, you know Otis and dogs much better than I, hope something can be done about his chewing habit. And whoever drew that Antarctica map either needs (or used) serious drugs…

Dicey , know how you feel, at least once a week I get in my car and realize I left the car keys in the house, and while I remember 9 out of 10 things I need to take with me to the gym or to soccer, there’s always that one item… Hope the therapy helps.

boo fae, nothing like the last-minute rush by someone and them making it ‘your problem’. Glad you could dredge the info out of the system. And hoping you get your quite day.

swampy, same problem here with the grass, by the time it dries out enough not to clog up the mower, the rain is back (60-70% chance today). Meanwhile the grass keeps growing, it loves this weather…

I think I still have some college and high school grade cards and maybe something from elementary buried deep in my files, but haven’t spied them in years and not planning on going looking for them.

Knots, it’s amazing the human race made it as far as we did before the widespread use of caffeine…

Well, need to get shopping. Talk with y’all later.

The locusts are in bloom here. Cascades of white flowers. I can smell them from across the street, they smell wonderful.

@thorny_locust , is that true where you live, too? And do you enjoy the season?

No rain this morning, so we were able to walk. Chloé did a good job, except when we saw an armadillo, which she decided was going to be her best friend. The armadillo disagreed and noped on out of there. The sunrise was gorgeous this morning.

Man, baby steps are hard after giant strides I was taking a couple of weeks ago, but I need Mrs Magill to catch up. I’ve been invited to join the MTTA[1] Discord. I’ve enjoyed communicating with other folks like me. One of things that has surprised me is the number of death metal enthusiasts that are on there. I’ll take Unexpected Overlaps for $1000, please.

I’ve have my power flow later this morning, so I’m currently un-showered. I’m wearing my exercise tights and a shirt I picked up at a 5K a couple of years ago. I want to wear my bra-top tank, but it really would not work with my current appearance. And I don’t have anything to fill it out with yet… sigh baby steps, girl, baby steps.

I think I may have worn my contact a bit more than I should have so soon after the surgery. My left eye is angry with me and is red and watery.

Anyhow, enough about me.[2]

I’ve often had to call Mrs Magill’s phone. Nine times out of ten, it’s on the pass-through between the kitchen and the family room. You know, where we just looked ten seconds ago.

I’m picturing doggio summoning the squirrels a la Spider-man summoning the spiders.

Boofae I have a lot of writing - essays, papers, stories, and plays - from school that are sitting on 3.5" floppies in my filing cabinet that are completely inaccessible. Sometimes I think I may like to read them, then I figure just how cringe they probably are.

I’m showered and dressed semi-respectably. First load in the washer, two more on deck. I took some pics of boat things that we need to sell and I looked up prices for reference. Guess I should load the dirties in the dishwasher and put fresh towels in our bathroom since the others are being laundered. I tended to the cat box and did a quick rollsuck to get up stray litter. So productive!!

Someone is coming just after noon to get the old mattress from the boat - I’ll be glad to get that out of the garage. Somewhere along the line, I may go futz in the yard. Maybe. We’ll see…

Mornin’ everyone.

It’s 52F and cloudy outside. We are expecting a little morning rain shower here and there, but the afternoon will be dry. The day will remain cloudy with a daytime high of 62F.

Yesterday, we topped out at 83F, and I definitely felt it because I spent five or six hours in the yard first with mowing and weed-whacking, and then gardening. I decided to expand/create a new bed, and I transplanted multiple plants among the beds, planters, and pots. It was a good way to work the stress out of me. I popped in ear buds, turned on Spotify, and set to work.

Thanks to all for your commiserations about my mother. As far as my husband not listening, I’m not surprised. He did this with my Dad, too. He just doesn’t do well with large, life-changing things. I was 100% there for him with his mom and dad, and I really was the one doing the executor work for his mother’s estate. I’d tell him what he needed to do, or what the attorney said, and he’d sign, go to the attorney appointment (with me), or make the required call. Perhaps it’s my fault, I’ve always just taken care of stuff, and why should anything change for him now?

Red, I hope you find a doc who accepts your insurance soon.

Dicey, I hope the meds/therapy work. I haven’t lost my phone yet, but you never know. I know now that I have to start tracking when I pay my bills, because I sometimes forget whether I paid. I’ve always paid 100% on time and pay early, but I still have to check the portal to make sure. I am driving myself crazy, so I’m going to make an Excel spreadsheet tracker.

Mollie, hang in there. Baby steps eventually lead to strides.

Boo Fae, I used to hate those last-minute, right-now turn-arounds. Sure, lemme search through five years’ worth of files and systems to find something you should have had all along.

I have two large storage totes filled with the kids’ artwork, writing, and some of their report cards. I didn’t get the tote to my daughter before she moved, and my son just moved into his house and doesn’t want it right now. I desperately want them out of my house because I don’t like stuff piling up.

FCM, if taking Otis with you to the boat works, then go with it. I had a covered outdoor kennel for our pups for years. I put kennel decking in there, and had large water bowls, toys, and treats. As they got older, we could trust them in the house. I hear what you’re saying about the heat. At the time, one dog was white and a Siberian Husky, and the other was black and a Labrador mix. Unfortunately, we both had to work, and it was the only solution we had. The kennel was set up in the portion of the yard that had the most shade.

I have to go to the MAUL today. I hate shopping for clothes, but I really don’t have anything that will work for Sunday’s memorial service. I thought about ordering something online, but I have to try clothes on. On-line clothing purchases rarely work out for me.

Tomorrow is the Costco and party-or-dollar-store run (for bowls for the salads). I think I might get a pedicure first, though.

Alrighty, on with the day. Please take care of yourselves.

taters, i hope y’all can find a good solution for your mother. a friend’s mother moved into assisted living recently and she loves it! she is 96 mostly in a wheelchair due to unsteadiness and fall risk. she is enjoying all the activities and social opportunities. not being confined to a house really opened up her world.

i’m back at the office today. still have the barry white voice, rarely coughing.

i left my phone at home on the charger. oy.
