(Old) Buddying With Allies in the MMP

{{{{Boofae}}}}

So sorry. One of my dogs died suddenly of a seizure several years ago. It was very hard.

@purplehorseshoe

Sorry I am a few states away. If I was closer I would be there to 'talk" to the co-worker

On the outside I look like a frail old man but on the inside I am still this guy…

How awful. You usually have some indication that there is a problem, and can try to prepare yourself.

The heat finally came back on in the wee hours of the night. I had spent a couple of hours tossing back and forth and thinking about the shitstorm I wanted to unleash on management. I’m guessing that it took all those hours for the boiler to get that massive amount of water reheated.

I was also suffering from gastric distress from the rich meal I had last evening at a local restaurant. We drove over half of Minny looking for a place that wasn’t jammed full of Valentine’s couples and finally found a really good seafood place that had cancellations. By the time the food arrived at our table, it was going on 8pm, which is way too late for me to eat anything, let alone lobster bisque, so I paid for that last night as well. Couldn’t face breakfast this morning.

There was a notice from management about how they’re embarking on a preventive maintenance program for the piping systems. Let’s see, the building went up in the 90s and they’re just getting around to this? Of course, they’ve had two ruptures in the past couple of weeks, so that likely prompted things. Those weekend callouts for remediation can be expensive. I think the woman downstairs from us took some water damage yesterday. I’m guessing that management took a lot of flak from tenants over the lack of heat, with temps now in single digits. They’re already having trouble attracting new tenants and don’t need any bad press or some sort of mass exodus.

So today is a day of rest. Sadie is perched on the ottoman to make sure I’m not out of her sight. The wife has discovered podcasts, so I’m not sure when I might see her again. A nap may be in order.

FCD had a hankerin’ for a burger, so we went to the Olde Town Pub for lunch. Their fish-n-chips were pretty good, and we managed to beat the crowd, so that was nice. After our order went in, tables filled quickly.

Then we swung by the credit union so I could get cash to pay the plow guy, should it be needed. Weirdly, I pulled the wrong card out of my wallet, so I put in the wrong PIN, but it still proceeded with the transaction, till it informed me there would be a fee, and I canceled. Even if I’d agreed to the fee, I’m hoping it would have rejected the transaction because of the incorrect PIN. Anyway, back at the car, I realized my mistake, then went back with the correct card and all was peachy - no fee, lots of cash. Well, not lots, but enough. It would have looked like lots if it had been ones.

So, time for chillage. My brain is still partly fried after the credit card updating fiasco.

Missing much 362 posts in.

I am sorry about Shadow.

I am sorry for the loss of jobs. Most of my friends who still work have government or state university jobs so they’re scrambling even if they haven’t gotten a notice. Some will face the cascade of no work->can’t pay child support->can’t pay alimony, not to mention health insurance, kid tuition, home repairs underway, etc. Our pensions are from the state university system. My lovely wife is out buying meat and more canned food on sale. Gas is holding at 24 cents above what it was 10 days ago. We’re wearing fleeces and hats in the house.

Yay, Spartans won! They were down by 16 pts in the first half but narrowed it to 4 pts by halftime. They outscored the Illini by 18 in the 2nd half so won by 14. Coach Izzo is now the holder of the record for most Big Ten conference wins at 354. The General (Coach Bobby Knight) had 353.

There are 45 posts since my last post and unfortunately I don’t have time to read them now. I just wanted to say to Chefguy Thank you for the French toast recipe some time ago! It was a big hit today.

But then the boxes would come out in alpha order because I work left to right. And BTW, its CDO. That’s OCD with all of the letters in the correct position.

It honestly was lovely thirty years ago. The summers were short, monsoon storms were a daily thing during the season and we could enjoy our patio almost all year round. But all good things must come to an end and I think those days will not come again in my lifetime if ever.

I will confess I wasn’t expecting quite so much rain here though. We’ve had almost an inch today and over 9 inches since the first of the month. Now it is snowing.

We went out for a short drive around just to see what was going on. Hubs wanted to go to Kroger but I convinced him that if they were evacuating apartments, they really didn’t want looky-loos around. We thought we would cross the river and come home the back way but changed our minds when we saw the big 4-wheel drive trucks backing out of water because they thought it was too deep.

Currently I’m stitching and watching the snow fall. It is 32F so nothing is sticking but that mostly just means that not only are people getting wet, they are getting cold and wet.

Tonight’s dinner will be ribs - I’ve got a full rack of baby back ribs in the crock pot and they are starting to smell good - roasted potatoes and frozen corn. Tomorrow will be leftovers. I am going to the capital and might not be in the mood to cook afterwards. I’m bringing my heavy cane, a couple hundred dollars cash and a couple of gallons of milk, just in case.

Folks don’t really seem to understand how much upper body strength one can develop by supporting their entire body weight with one arm every other step taken. I might not be able to run away very fast, but if Imma hit you, Imma leave a big bruise.

I wonder if staying up fuming might have also been part of the problem. I’m not judging, I’d have been up all night fuming as well. These issues are unacceptable with any rental and your building is full of old and sometimes confused people who need and deserve to be comfortable.

Give Sadie lots of pettings. It will be good for both of you.

Not to mention the cuts in the safety net. States are starting to pull back from expanded Medicaid now which is going to hurt many more people than it helps. But at least we are getting armored cybertrucks!

Oh! A raven just came to the french doors and started pecking at the glass. He skittered off when I opened the door but came back right away when I tossed out a slice of braunschweiger.

I know, I know. Don’t bother telling me to not feed birds people food. I know its not good for them, hell that stuff isn’t good for people either. The Ravens really like sausage and that’s all I had open.

Made it to the yarn store for class. It was pouring rain. Took a taxi. The heel turn was trixsy. As usually I did it whoopsy doodle first, the teacher was able to get it straightened out and I started the turn again.

Thankfully one of the few breaks in the rain happened, and I was able to walk home. Lager wanted a long cuddle.

During the class I was told there’s a Netflix Red Sox thing. So I am watching that now and knitting will happen once I get a bit of tidying done.

I had a knock on my front door while I was getting Nelson to take outside. It was members of my local fire department doing a special census. My county has grown considerably population-wise since 2020 and this could bring added federal dollars if Washington doesn’t go completely off the rails.

The chicken korma, basmati rice and Indian fried cabbage for dinner was wonderful! Just the warm flavors needed for a cold, blustery day.

Spicy tomato ragu for supper, then out into the cold with a hair dryer and a long extension cord to thaw the latch on our back gate.

Before the projected -40 overnight low.

Oh do tell. Even though I’m an evil (upstate) New Yorker now, I’m originally from Maine, and love all things Sox.

Woof, this sciatica thing is exhausting.

Good evening all. Been fairly busy today, rode over to the Golden Corral for Sunday Dinner, had Pot Roast with Rice, soup-n-salad, and 3-2-1 dessert (3 cookies, 2 brownies and 1 piece of pecan pie). And since I got there a couple minutes before 11am, they gave me the breakfast rate, so only $16. After gorging myself I decided to stop at the Buc-ee’s on the way back, figured it has been there a year so it’s probably not as crowded…not my best call, it was mobbed, but I got gas, a Coke, and some more cookies for the ride home. Knew that if I sat down I wouldn’t be getting back out, so filled my gym bag and went right to the gym…and then back home since I still had my ‘good’ shoes on and forgot to pack my gym shoes. Spent several hours there, tried to keep the workout sessions shorter and took time between them to rest/read, so burned off most of the afternoon. Have had sammiches for dinner and am now in full sloth mode. Down to 34F heading to 25F tonight, so I’m glad I have the big thick comforter on the bed.

JtC, that is some flooding. The Tennessee River is nearly 18 miles from me, so I’m not to worried about it. At least you don’t have to worry about wildfires…

red, glad the falling branches didn’t do any major damage. I don’t have any trees but there are a lot of them nearby. And hope the Fire folks can get the support they need.

FCM, my two cards have the same digits but in different order, so I have to check them to make sure I’m using the right CVV with the right card. And that Olde Town Pub looks good, but probably adds $2/item for having that extra ‘E’ in Olde…

Cookie, glad you have heat again, but stay on management so they do the preventive maintenance stuff. And I guess good foods hurt so good…

Why does that sound slightly…ominous…

Raises eyebrow like Mr. Spock

for a moment I wondered how professional wrestling got involved with knitting. A ‘heel’ turn’ in pro wrestling is when a ‘bad guy’ suddenly becomes a ‘good guy’. IIRC

{{{{ }}}} (but gently)

And time to catch up with my weekend You Tubes. Take care all and if I don’t get back for the late night final, see you on the next MMP.

I was amazed the first time I heard something like that happen here. It was so loud and distinctive despite me never have heard it before.

I’m glad you didn’t get a branch on your home, that would have been a bother you didn’t need.

The House That Spite Will Eat had a big branch land on the roof and slide down the side. Now there are windows broken and water is going inside.

Been there, bought the T-shirt, wore it out and then bought a new one!

Warm cats are good company after a walk in the cold.

We use hand sanitizer or canned air on frozen locks, would those not work when it is your kind of cold? Don’t need to know fast - or ever, LOL!

Do you get tomorrow off? If so, take a long soak in the tub and then just sloth for the rest of the day. Your body is trying to tell you to slow down.

Oh, that really bites. I don’t know if I could have gone to the gym or just complained while properly packing my bag and then sitting down for a minute to scratch kitties. And maybe take a few stitches. And so on.

The forest was on fire on the mountain outside our door back in August!!! I was all freaking out, a fire like that in AZ would have involved helicopters and slurry bombers and evacuations and shelters.

I think I was the only one out here who noticed it, they just let it burn out like nature intended. Of course, when the fire got close to a home, the fire department went out to keep the fire away from the home. They didn’t try to stop the fire, they just made a fire break to keep the fire away from the home and let it burn.

The picture I shared was before the flood peaked, it was half way up the windows on the ground floors for a while. There are still folks on the upper floors or there were when I saw it on the evening news. Those are not high-dollar apartments, and I’m hearing that renters insurance isn’t common out here. It’s a shame about FEMA not being around to help anymore.

Do you have any idea what that stuff is made of? Oh wait, do not look at the ingredients. You love it and eat it all the time. I do not want to be responsible for you losing a favorite food.

This ain’t my first protest, I still have a scar from getting hit with a sign during a pro-choice rally.

There is going to be one at your capital too, it is happening country wide. People have been protesting for almost as long as this stuff has been happening, it just hasn’t been reported.

If you are close enough, you might consider going yourself. It should be non-violent, just a showing of hands to our elected officials about how distressed we are about what is happening.

In case things go bad, cash is useful for bribes or bail, milk in case of tear gas and my cane in case I need to whack someone that really needs it.

The snow is still falling but the river has dropped. There is a culvert under the train tracks to the gully and the lake there is almost gone. GG likes to come in and visit while I am on the toilet - yes, that is a cat thing - and he often sits on the scale during our chat. Tonight he weighted himself and he’s 21 lbs even.

I plunked Jolene down on the scale and she’s just over 9 lbs and she’s the new comer.

How come that lil red haired, green eyed beauty runs our house?

“Poopervisor.”

Supervising while you, yanno …

Thanks for all the threats of violence talking to my coworker.

He did apologize to me as soon as he showed up, so we cool.

How can people be so ignorant? AAAAAAARGH! :slightly_frowning_face:

I am so sorry {{{boo fae}}}. You took excellent care of Shadow and gave him a lot of love. So hard to say goodbye to a member of your family.

taters hoping you get a 3 day weekend. Hopefully they haven’t cancelled the federal holiday of President’s Day .

:fire: I’m sure the ladies were asking for a fire hose to cool down with.

omgosh, that’s my kind of dessert! Glad you had a nice meal and bonus on the breakfast rate.

A pretty darn nice day. Had my alarm set for 6:13 but woke up at 6:02 so didn’t have a jarring wake up. Jumped up pretty quickly because a lot to do. Baked the cookies for BF that I had made the dough for yesterday. Then shoveled the driveway; there was about 1-3/4" overnight. I hate when the snow gets compacted on the driveway then hardens into ice and stays for 4-6 weeks. So, I shoveled only enough so when I drove out, the tires were on bare pavement.

Then went to mass where I lectored. When I came out after mass, there was an additional 2" of snow that had fallen in the hour and a half that I was in church. So, reshoveled the driveway.

Started making brunch. Used Chefguy’s recipe for French toast and cooked bacon. Hubs was down to eat about 11:30. My BF showed up about 11:55. Daughter and friend didn’t show up until 1:30. So, I was like a short order cook but received a lot of compliments on the French toast.

Then we gave BF her birthday gifts. We have a tradition where we gently tap the birthday person with the gift on their head and say “Pook, pook, what is ‘name of birthday person’ going to do with this?” Then the person has to make a guess as to what the gift is. Hilarity ensued. BF was pretty much overcome as her daughter had to cancel flying in from PNW due to illness and her sister and BIL and nephew and his family cancelled on going to a fancy club for her BD again due to illness.

Took Bella for a very short walk, just enough so her bowels were stimulated and she did her business. When we got back to house, daughter asked if we could keep Bella overnight. Of COURSE!

Then we helped BF get the hay bales that were used for the nativity scene into her car; she’s going to use them in her garden and for her chickens.

Have been giving Bella a lot of rubs, as has Hubs, and have been playing chase the squeaky toys with her. She doesn’t fetch and return toy to you. She just runs to it and squeaks it, then you have to go get it and throw it again. We’re very happy that she let Hubs know she needed to potty so he let her out into backyard; she did her business and ran back in as it’s in the teens now. Hubs is concerned as the temp is supposed to approach zero tomorrow morning. They didn’t bring her winter outerwear, just a puffer jacket. I’m going to wrap her midsection in one of my flannel scarves when we go for a short walk.

Well it’s been a week. The last 4 weeks seem like it’s been at least 4 months. Wish it wasn’t going to be so cold tomorrow or I’d drive up to our capitol, but it’s 86 miles away, with a forecast high of 15*, snow and possibly ice on the roads. So, I’m going to stay home and take care of Bella. I’m very glad that you are going JtC! Good going.

I’ve never heard of either being used. Probably not enough heat generated.

But, O Frabjous Day, when I went out back the latch was working again! I have no idea what the problem was, or how it fixed itself. (Wasn’t the heat, as it was about -26 when I tried it again.) May have been the ground shifting from the cold.

And I was able to pull the two broken Ground pins out of the outlet by my car, so I can plug in the block heater again! Double Frabjous!

Temp is down to -33C. Projected low is -40 tonight. (I’m not staying up to monitor it.). Put the back bathroom tap on “drip” mode and hope that prevents freeze-up.

Not exactly late night, but tired and have some puzzles to work on so bedtime will be early. Just about at freezing and going down to 25F tonight, so heating bill in March will be interesting. Outside of that nothing new, so take care and I’ll catch you on the next MMP.

Yeah, been there, seen the movie; but I started eating it when I was about 5-6 years of age and [probably will continue to do so until I or Oscar Meyer’s production of it expire.

As for protesting, it’s about 100 miles to the capital and I’m just not up for it…yet…but maybe soon…

Cat Glove, of course being buffet style, the helpings were small, but they were pretty good…as were the three large Chocolate Chip cookies I got a Buc-ee’s… And sounds like you had a good day today; all things considered, you were due one.

Piper, stay warm.

And that’s all for this week.

So he gets to live. For now.

And the man spent almost his entire life maintaining fire alarm and fire suppression systems. Coincidence? You tell me!

It certainly has. TC friend lost her job at the nursing home because of funding issues so we sent her a bunch of kitty kibble. She was thrilled because she is also the local TNR lady with all that entails.

We’ve also ordered a hundred pounds of critter fud to be delivered (sorry Doggio) to the local rescue because pets are getting lost and left behind.

Despite all that, we have to go to town and buy kitty litter because somebody forgot to agree to the auto shipment.

Which makes a whole lot of sense. I"m glad you were able to get the latch open and plug your car back in!

I started taking CBD gummies to help with the lyme based neuropathy. The last batch I got definitely is not THC free. I’m a bit disappointed by that. The “rest and reset” will become an only on the weekend thing. I know what THC feels like.
