old but not forgotten cartoons

Do you remember the incantation the wizard used to get Tooter back? Something like “Drizza drazza drizza drone, time for this one to come home,” or something to that effect? I have that stupid 45 year old snippet of memory stuck in my head.

Waah!My parents didn’t allow enough TV time.

Any love for Underdog?

Atom Ant?

Mighty Mouse?

There is also Gerald McBoing Boing which I watched also. King Leonardo might have started on Alvin, but he later had his own show. There was also a show in NY (on Ch. 11 with “Officer” Joe Bolton) of lame Dick Tracy cartoons. Dick appeared in the beginning and in the middle, but there were stereotyped detectives who carried the plot. Every cartoon had a place in the middle, where the detective, in trouble, says “Hold everything please” and calls in to Dick.

I swear that wasn’t there last time I searched youtube. Where do people get this shit?

Thank you, though. I’m one step further away from being crazy. ish.

oh, and BTW, I just have to say that the cereal doesn’t look anywhere CLOSE to being appetizing. I probably thought it looked good when I was a kid. Although I do seem to remember coming up with a theory at some point in my youth about how they could market anything as a cereal and kids would want it and swear it tasted good. “New, crap in a bowl! Just add milk. Part of this complete breakfast, we’re just not going to tell you which part. You’ll probably be glad we didn’t.”

When I was a kid in Jersey the semi-fuzzy Philadelphia UHF station (look it up, kids) played all kinds of cartoons I’ve never seen anywhere else, like Stuffy Durma the millionaire hobo.

I was never a big Underdog fan; I can’t believe he still has a Macy’s parade balloon (and a superbowl commercial!)

Mighty Mouse rocked, though. Good song.

Also lame (even to my 8-year-old self) were the marionette shows referenced above (Fireball XL-5, Supercar). My friends and I used to crack each other up by walking around like a marionette.

Oh, come on! Thunderbirds was great! I loved that show. (Of course I was only like five.) It came on earlier than the other cartoons, so it was the first thing I watched on Saturday mornings. F-A-B!

Best I can figure people have old video tapes that they copy to their computer. That’s sort of the nature of video tapes, you record stuff to them you think you’ll want to save, or you record stuff and don’t watch it, and weeks later you don’t remember what’s on the tape so you just put it aside and record to a new tape.

I know I have lots of 80’s Transformers and Voltron episodes, but the old commercials are probably more Youtube-worthy. I haven’t touched the tapes in probably 10 years or more.

Is that the one where he had a magic belt that gave him super strength, and a talking parrot? Cause I certainly remember that.

Shazzan (not Shazzam) = correct. Captain Caveman, no that’s not the dude.

Found him. The mighty Mightor.

Not as old as some of these, but anyone remember Thundarr the Barbarian? My dad and I would watch this together on Sundays after church…

YouTube video of the intro

For some reason now I hear that intro in my head as “and his faaaabulous Sun Sword!” And wonder what he and Ookla were getting up to in camp…

Oh my God. you remember that hobo too? I had a friend who actually knew the friggin’ theme song. He sang it once during Desert Storm. I laughed so loud my platoon sergeant got pissed that I’d give away our position.

Thundarr the Barbarian rocked! Anyone remember the Funky Phantom? i used to love that one.

Thunderbirds intro.

Loved that show, I’d run outside afterwards into the sunshine and grab the nearest sword-like stick and whack the hell out of stuff!

I checked out the Thundarr clip on youtube, started clicking on links and came up with a promo for this toon that I had completely forgotten about until right now.

I was in elemntary school, so this was the mid to late-70’s. I remember that it was on in the afternoon, because we used to race off the bus to get home and watch it (3 or 4pm). It was a kind of a space opera/star wars/battlestar galactica/star trek like cartoon and there was an enormous ship and the cartoon was a series. It would kind of cliffhanger and you would be enticed to tune in the next day? week? for the next episode. All I remember are the big ship, lots of 1920’s style death ray laser fights, white uniforms and lots of character intrigue.

Anybody? It’s driven me crazy for years and I don’t remember enough to Google with, so my only hope is someone else who remembers this…

Space Cruiser Yamato (aka Space Battleship Yamato and Star Blazers)?

Supercar was the only Anderson wooden puppet show I watched.

Besides **Space 1999 ** that is.

Star Blazers (the western name for the show - it was originally called “Space Crusier Yamato” in Japan.)

Here’s a Youtube clip.
