Old Clothing brands

What amuses me is that Members Only jackets went from being the “you ain’t cool if you don’t have one” accessory for both sexes in the '70s to being “old man gear” in the '90s and '00s.

I had the most beautiful dark blue/plummish colored MO jacket. I actually still have it, somewhere in the back of my closet. It nowhere close to fits me anymore.

Remember those stripy Pepe shirts?

I recall girls wearing “Gasoline” brand blue jeans. Not sure if that was because they were cheap or supposedly stylish.

Oh, and how about Garanamals (sp?) For kids–you were supposed to match up the animal for the shirt and pants I think.

Ain’t you youngsters ever heard of ***Buster Brown ***shoes?

Still around, available (exclusively?) at WalMart. I saw some boys’ shirts and pants with little lion tags just last month.

I know that Starter is one of those ubiquitous brands, but when I was in school their puffy pro sports jackets were all the rage.

Honest to Og, I mostly see them on homeless people these days. They stick out because you see them wearing jackets for teams not associated with the place they’re in.

Jnco - the machine behind the giant-leg jeans crazy of the mid-to-late 90s. I’ve still got a pair knocking around somewhere.

I came in here to mention Gunne Sax, my sister got married in that dress, the exact same one you had. My bridsmaid dress was similar, only with short butterfly sleeves and in light blue.

Do you remember earth-shoes? The heel was lower than the rest of the shoe so it was like walking uphill all the time.

Starter can now be found on the cheap at Walmart. They used to have a lot of major league licenses, don’t know if they still do.

E.T. shoes from Buster Brown! Good lord I wanted a pair of those shoes, but no dice.

Garanimals is still around-sold at Wal-Mart. It is GREAT for dads who can’t seem to put a decent outfit together for the kids.

I remember a brand called Girbaud. When we were in middle school, my neighbor totally freaked out one day because she got some mud on her Girbaud jeans and I had no idea what the heck she was talking about. They just looked like regular jeans to me. <shrug>

Yep. Marithe and Francois Girbaud. I found a super-cheap pair at TJ Maxx in college and I was so excited! Haven’t seen the brand around since.

They’re around, but mostly worn by urban kids.

Gunne Sax are still good for Halloween costumes. Does anyone remember Chemin de Fer jeans? They were popular in the late 70’s and the logo was(obviously) a train. They were wide legged and came with different button closures, such as sailor, tuxedo (a notch at the top of the placket with a button that didn’t get buttoned) and a few other varieties that I neither know the name of or can adequately describe. Those pants were super cool, man!

I asked about this on the boards, but maybe a new person will remember this.

Sweet-Orr pants? They were all the rage in our town (New York State) in around 1980-82ish. They came in army pants style and a chinos style, in all kinds of colors. They had a yellow tag on the flap of the back pocket of the army kind.

You were no one if you didn’t have these. And they sold them at teepeedashery, if anyone remembers those!

Or I just lived in some alternate universe.

Remember when those “Westcoast Choppers” shirts were in style? I don’t see them much anymore. That was only a few years back, but I guess the fashion world moves at a fast pace.

I work at the Salvation Army and I see most of these brands every day.

Canadians may remember David S. Reid skiwear. I don’t know if it ever made it down to the US, but I do recall that Reid winter wear was extremely popular at our Toronto high school back in the 1970s.
