I’ve been thinking about starting this thread for a few days and now with the “current commercials you hate” thread now seems like as good a time as any. So what are some commercials from the past that you kinda miss seeing?
Three come to mind for me. First, a commercial for some Time-Life style collection of new age songs. Would never have bought the thing but the audio clips worked so well together that the commercial was quite enjoyable. Second, an ad for another Time-Life type product about nature, a video series the first of which was about predators. There was a bit in the commercial with a big-ass bird facing down a shark, scampering backward along the water’s surface with the shark in pursuit and the image was so cool. Again not something I’d buy but I spent more time than I should have wondering how that confrontation turned out. Third, my all-time favorite commercial(s), for Snickers. The ones featuring the guy obsessed with pandas who scares all his coworkers into hiding in an office rather than go to lunch with him and hear more about pandas. Never failed to crack mr the hell up.
I kinda miss the Scotish family from the Oatmeal Crisp commercials. Raving about the Oatmeal Crisp before at the end going all gruff “But it’s no oatmeal!”
It’s at least better than the new guy going on about how “The Blueberries and strawberries comingle with the oatmeal… lethal…”
Yeras ago , there was a secret ingredient in toothepaste…it was called “GL-70”! It was so strong, that it would stop a 120 MPH fast ball! The commercial used to advertise it showed the pitchman behind a glass screen…and a pitcher fires in a fast ball, which bounces off the GL-70!
Man, where do you buy GL-70 these days?
You got chocolate in my peanut butter. You got peanut butter on my chocolate!*
Rmemeber those mid-late 70’s commercials for the cheesey Bigfoot movies? The movies about Bigfoot might have been lame-o, but the commercials kicked ass.
Action figure commercials: they were always cool. Kids always had a stream out back to sail GI Joe in his raft, and they had perfect size hills and rocks for the adventure.
The old “Cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs” commercials were way better.
And here is a song to have stuck in yer head all day: “Honey Comb’s big, yeah yeah yeah…It’s not small, no no no…Honey Comb’s big, yeah yeah yeah…”
I’d like to see the anti-pot PSA that ended with “From you, all right?!? I learned it by watching you!”
And for some bizarre reason, I’d kind of like them to start re-running those Encyclopedia Britannica ads that had the unbelievably annoying kid. “I’ve got a report due on space.”
And more recently, the Sprint ads with the monkey with a cold. Still just cracks me up thinking about it.
IMHO, the best commercial of all time.
The one I miss isn’t that old…and I can’t believe I’m saying it…but I miss Steve the Dell Guy. I still yell “Dude! You’re gettin’ a Dell!” at the TV when I see a Dell commercial.
I really miss those condom PSAs from the early 90s.
Watching Rob Lowe and Alec Baldwin demonstrating how to put on a condom.
:shiver:
Wow.
Now that was a public service and it was HOT.
Whaddya mean I dreamed it? Are you sure? Damn. What about those condom PSAs where Rosie Perez showed how to put a condom on a man with your mouth? I knew that was real!
