old drivers that cant see over the dash

well, i dint know exactly how this whole pit thing works, but if there is one group of people i would like to see thrown into a gigantic bbq pit, it would be those pesky old people that cant see over their friggin dashboard.

TECKCHik68 see i cn seperate my posts in to several distinct paragrapghs. my spelling needs some help, but at least its somewhat easy to read.

ok, when im driving along in my cat and all i see is a set of knuckles on a steeringwheel, it scares me, i think we should start requiring people over the age of 65 to take a driving test (as in with the department of motor vehicles)

And if they cannot see over the dash, are shaking so bad that they cant steer, or if they are totally unaware that they are even driving, they would loose their liscence, which would include RASCALS.

Does anybody else have a feeling that this is not so much a rant, but actually a secret communique from one Illuminati member to another?

It’s totally incoherent. Chock full of non-sequiturs: “cat”? “RASCALS”? Almost deliberately misspelled.

Seriously-- are you guys planning to engineer another stock market crash? C’mon, you can tell us.

um did you spell ford wrong?

I am relatively sure that after trying to read the OP, I am in need of extensive therapy caused by the rambling incoherence and utter lack of readability.

Yup, a perfect pit thread.

It becomes a lot more coherent when you translate it into French and back:

well, the dint of I know exactly this whole thing of mine functions, but if there is a group of people whom I would like to see thrown in a colossal well of BBQ, they would be these old people pesky who bevel see above their management report of friggin. time-out

TECKCHik68 see the seperate some Cn of I my post inside with several paragrapghs distinct my épellation have need of assistance, but at least of sound somewhat easy to read ** time-out **

ok, when im control the length in my cat and all I see a positioning articulation on a steeringwheel, frighten, I think must start require nobody above age 65 to take one control test (like inside with service motor motor vehicle à moteur)

and if can not see above dash, shake thus bad that bevel ox, or so total ignoramus that equal control, loosen their liscence, which include RASCALS.

A) “fnord” is a real word
B) old people who cannot drive correctly should either surrender their licenses or kill themselves
C) our new friend fnord strikes me as a bit of a dolt. A definite disservice to the name

A Rascal is one of those “runabout” type scooters for old/handicapped people. The quoted line above cracked me right up, completely making up for the spelling difficulty.

Zette

i can not belive you called me a dolt, i am very honered that you fnord feel that way about me, and as for the diservice to the name, i resent that.
as for my spelling, so what?
i have seen mush worse, oh and as for the english to french to english thing, that works fnord because i write everything in esperanto first, that way i can catch punctuation errors. and no, we are not planning a stock market crash, fnord we are going to flood the market with diamonds, thereby rendering them worthless, the reall money will be in the colored gemstones.

Well, you’re a true asset to this board, sunshine

Fretful Porpentine, great post. I am laughing so hard, I nearly broke some ribs.

I thought I would resurect this thread because I almost got wiped out by another elderly kamakazi driver.
By the way, this was my first pit thread, it was back in May, actually on my birthday.

Damn hidden messages. 1000101

It’s always MA, who got PA’s land tank when he died, and won’t get a car to suit her size because she’s afraid to drive much. Not afraid enough to quit, though.

Ah, to be young again. To know everything about everything. To be able to solve all the worlds problems. To be able to decide the fate of others with no regard for the consequences.

I wonder why drivers my age (60) pay lower insurance premiums than younger drivers? Could it be that we are better (safer) drivers? Nah, couldn’t be that, could it? Could it be that we are more cautious in our driving habits? Well, maybe.
Could it be that we just flat have more experience behind the wheel and utilize that experience to avoid both traffic tickets and accidents? Yeah, I think maybe thats the reason.

I got my first car and my first drivers license when I was fourteen years old. We could do that way back then. And you know what? We said the exact same things back then that you punks are saying now. And you know what? Basically nothing in the law has changed because as we got old enough to influence the decisions, we realized how full of shit we were when we were young.

I will admit that I paid for a lot of speeding tickets. But I am still waiting to be involved in my first traffic accident.

fnord says:

I have never seen mush worse, nor heard of it! Where the heck did you see that?

fnord says:

Hey Fretful, could you please interpret this one too? I’m a blonde, and he is confusing me.

You will probably be like my dad and grandpa. Both went to their graves saying they were good drivers, and never had an accident. They both lied. It turned out all their cronies had the lie.

The reason you pay less is more due to not driving at rush hour, not driving in the wee hours, not braving sleet because you don’t go to work, etc.
To say you are actually better drivers is to fool yourselves. Younger people aren’t fooled.

Old people slooow down for a 2-way stop because they can’t tell if the other guy has a stop sign or not.

They leave huge gaps when they stop at lights, saying they just don’t like to get too close. Actually, they have lost depth perception, or are actually driving with one bad eye.

They pretend they yield right of way to be polite, when it’s their turn to go at a four-way stop. Actually, they have lost track of who’s turn it is.

They have lots of excuses, but it doesn’t fool the younger drivers.

Hey, PGB or whatever, I am out driving every damn day. It is true I no longer drive in sleet but that’s because I got sick and tired of South Dakota and moved to Florida.

Just because your father and grandfather are liars doesn’t mean I am any more than your being stupid means I should be.

So just fuck off and die, punk.

LouisB: I would like to refute your statement that older drivers are more careful, and in less accidents.

The accident rates for drivers start very high at age 16, drop sharply after 18, again at 24, and strongly decrease util age 30 or so. After age 30, the rates are quite level until age 55. After age 55, surprise, the accident rate creeps up again. Once you hit 65, the rate increases dramatically. By the time you are at 75, the rate is higher than age 18. By the time you are at 85, the rate is about 25% HIGHER than age 16.

This is all from memory. I read a study a few months ago in, I believe, the membership magazine for The National Motorists Association. I will try to find my copy, or a cite from their site for proof.

Stay tuned.

The original post stated the problem corectly.
Short people shouldn’t have oversized cars.
When you look out over the hood instead of down over it, that’s where you lose your sense of closeness to other cars.
The hands-high steering posture also looks tiring.

I think this affects all short people, not just old ones.
There are plenty of smaller cars available, and ones where the seats go up higher.

I would like very much to see such a study or a link to the report. If you mean the accident rate for older drivers increases as a percentage of their numbers, I wouldn’t be surprised as there are just not that many 85 year olds. But since that population is limited, it would seem that their accident rate would be a smaller percentage of the populations in general. This would be somewhat less true at 75 and even less true at 65. So in the absence of a cite I will stick to my guns.

Besides, every so often I read some bull shit rant about older drivers being incompetent and it pisses me off. When I was young, I participated in many such rants myself. I outgrew those attitudes simply by virtue of living long enough to do so.
