(Old) Drudgery In The MMP

Now boss says I am not in the system online. I am to go apply again.

It’s going to be scratchy. That’s normal. It will look bloodshot and you might even have blood in your eye. That is normal. It might feel a little swollen. That is also normal.

If any of the above feelings are more than just an annoyance, that might not be normal, but a call to your eye doctor will probably help you determine that.

That filled up fast! I wonder if you’ll end up needing a bigger unit to properly tackle that Florida humidity. I wish I had a way to drain mine like you’ve been able to set up, but dumping it before bed isn’t a major hassle at least.

And I mentioned the dehumidifiers failing simply because I’ve never experienced a modern appliance fail so spectacularly, quickly, and with such regularity. One of the units actually did catch on fire. But I’ve also known people that had them running for years in a basement or whatever and had no issues, so hopefully I just had a string of incredibly bad luck.

Evening here. But still light outside, sun doesn’t go down until after 10:30pm so glad the drapes are thick. Was ahead again at the Casino but end up breaking even again, which I don’t mind since I am playing with their money. Took the day easy with naps and aspirin/dristan so doing ok. In Zeebruge, Belgium tomorrow for our last port call, have a bus tour of Flanders scheduled so we’ll see how that goes. Looked up the details on this ship, it’s 180,000 tons, over 1,000 feet long and can hold 4,600 passengers. It really is a floating city.

FCM, safe travels to England and the ports beyond.

And to everyone else a good day/evening to you all, it’s closing in on 10pm here so will be retiring soon.

4 posts with no recognition. I see my invisibility cloak which works well in real life is working here too. :victory_hand:

Well, I just got back here and I saw your post. That sucks. It sucks so often. it sucks so hard. It’s really mystifying that nothing ever goes right when you’re getting a job. The economy hates you or something.

I had that thought even before I bought it. It claims to be a 45 pint/day (~5 gallons!) unit suitable for a 4500 SF living space. My apartment is 995 SF. I hoped that’d be sufficient.

I did figure I could tuck one alongside the toilet and drain into there, but the power cord would be awkward at best. I could find spots to put more units, but they’d all be undrained and I’d be emptying tanks more often than y’all are feeding cats. Which is amounts of drudgery I’m not going to subscribe to.

My best bet if this proves inadequate is another of the same sort stacked atop the one I already have. I could get 3 into that space with enough ingenuity about shelving them.

Well, it never did rain here yesterday. There were a couple of loud thunder rumbles around 3:15pm or so, followed by the wind picking up for a few minutes, but not so much as a drop of rain. I can’t regret leaving the office early, though!

Despite the lack of stormage, somehow the humidity got better last night: when I took Bailey out for the last time at 10pm it was actually kind of pleasant. Now we’re back to it being 93°F and feeling like 104, and there might be some storms this evening; a severe thunderstorm watch is in effect. Again. We’ll see. It’s supposed to only hit 77 tomorrow and 88 on Saturday – a veritable cold front! – but then we get back in the 90s with storms for several days. Ah, summer.

Speaking of taking Bailey outside, since Tuesday evening she’s been needing help getting up the patio steps. A wheelchair ramp is being delivered tomorrow. She’s historically been resistant to ramps or pet steps (etc.), but hopefully she’ll start using this without too much fuss. She’s a little weaker than usual at the moment because she still isn’t eating right or taking her prednisone (stupid mutt), but even taking that into account I think it’s time for a ramp. I want her to be able to get back into the house under her own steam for as long as possible, and I don’t want her to start associating going outside with excessive pain/having to be picked up (and therefore maybe delaying trips to pee). I also had a plain roasted chicken delivered with today’s Wegman’s order, and I plan to de-skin and shred it this evening and feed her some: she really needs to eat more, and she loooooves chicken. You know how sometimes you don’t realize how hungry you are until you start eating something? I’m hoping that some “special” food will encourage her to also eat her dog food (and her pills, be they crushed in her food or in pill pockets).

I likely won’t be able to post tomorrow: I have a customer meeting from 9am-12pm (virtual, thank goodness), after which I’ll head to the corporate proposal center for the afternoon. That office is only 2 miles from my house, so I won’t mind. Coincidentally, one of the proposal resumes I’m drafting is for the Chief Engineer on my current program! I don’t interact with him much in my position, but I’ll be meeting with him tomorrow. Funny that I’ll spend more time talking with him in the proposal center than I would at our program’s facility.

I’m so sorry. :people_hugging:

Seems like there has been a lot of tragedy in Mumpers’ lives lately! :two_hearts:

I tangentially know of someone who died recently and suddenly, and young: the wife of a college classmate (she was a year behind us). I’m not FB friends with either of them, but I’m connected to my classmate on LinkedIn and he posted about it over the weekend. I haven’t seen or talked to him in 32 years, but my heart is broken for him.

I’m sure I’m way too late, but have a great trip!! :airplane: :ship:

I can vouch for the “great guy” part: when I tracked my first car – back before he moved out west – he was an instructor at the track day.

How is it different from/better than texting each other?

Glad to hear it, but still: I hope that cold clears up ASAP! Being sick on vacation sucks.

Got a blister on the conjunctiva. Called doctor, it seems he likes less drops and does injections. Should reabsorb. I’m okay to wait ‘till the morning visit. I have had blister like things before due to allergies.

Ordered dinner. And ate dinner. Now for a night of watching camp Cretaceous.

Tomorrow, dr visit, getting one lens knocked out of my glasses, and breakies!

Bon voyage Mooooooom and FCD!

I got one of my 401ks taken care of today. The other will have to wait until 03 Jul when I’m officially retired.

I took several pounds of change, collected over the last nine years (I don’t get a lot of change, given my sparing used of actual cash) and got a $50 and change gift code to Lowe’s. da Jungle used to be one of the CoinStar options, but apparently not anymore. They would have taken an $8 cut had I chosen to get cash or transfer it to my bank account. When you are moving, there is always something you’re going to need at Lowe’s or HD.

I picked up some groceries, gassed up the car, and packed up a bit more of my studio once I got home. The studio is now about 1/3 done.

Howdy Y’all! We had a ramble today. It was all impromptu but fun. We got shorn (in and out in under ten minutes, we are low maintenance hair) and then went over to the church house so I could deal with candles. After that we decided to ramble for a bit. The decision was made to go drive down a state highway that has been four laned over the past few years. Both of us traveled this highway many times durin’ our irk lives as it was the road to drive on to get to some smaller towns. Both of us hated it cause it was through farmland and when one got behind farm equipment it was slow go. We retired before it became four lanes, so we decided to check it out. Turned out to be a nice trip. We drove over to Moultrie, GA, which is a nice little town and cause we got hongry, had lunch at a meat and three place in downtown. So gooooood! We needed nappage when we returned to da cave. Needless to say, what was goin’ to be sup today will be sup tomorrow.

JtC we got a lot of rain. My very unofficial rain gauge showed almost four inches. It sets atop a six foot privacy fence, so not real accurate. The lightnin’ was actually a few miles away but the light show was continuous. The booms were not close. Still that must lightnin’ flash was a bit much for my taste.

Pilot the trouts come from a Monty Python sketch about a fish slap dance. So trouts are for those who may need a fish slap or for those who may need a trout in order to fish slap someone. Some folk need a trout slap.

I have airtags on Hubs, his bike and his car. It is much faster than texting and I don’t have to interrupt him in the bathroom.

You have no idea how jealous I am. We were perfectly happy in a 870 sf single-wide back when we were first married and I miss how easy it was to keep tidy. There wasn’t room for clutter. I did NOT like our 2500 sf home, was happier when we moved to that little 1400 sf place we had last. When we were looking to move here, the big thing I wanted was a thousand feet at the largest. Now we have rooms that are rarely used (we eat dinner in the dining room and walk through it to get to the laundry room. He naps in the living room and I’m rarely in there because he keeps it so cold. So much unused space to heat/cool and clean. Le sigh.)

I do hope you get your humidity problems figured out soon.

WOWOW!!! The sky just opened up and water was blowing down in sheets. An inch and a half of rain in about 20 minutes and it is still coming down. I went out to put a few porch plants out to get a nice drink and got soaked. This is so wonderful, I just love it. Our tomatoes are going to go wild!

@Sticks_and_Scones I don’t know if you remember, but when we were at the Tamarack, I restrained myself from buying a thirty dollar basket. I have thought of that basket every day since, so tomorrow I am going to use my new eyes to drive myself to buy a basket at the Tamarack!

Same as my doctor. Forgot about that, I couldn’t see it but Hubs could. That is also normal, sorry for not mentioning it.

More sheets of rain happening now. (This is why we are too old to live in a holler, we are too old to deal with washed out roads and rising rivers.)

OK…but my question to FCM was specifically how chatting via an app is different from/better than texting.

Sorry wasn’t really paying that much attention…more sheets of rain falling, I’m very distracted by the beauty.

The doctor could have mentioned it…

Up here in Haillman MI, helping out a friend building a cabin, and the weather has been weird. 90’s on tuesday, got to maybe 65 and dreary today, supposed to get down into the 50s tonight, then back up to 85 tomorrow.

We’re not going to get quite as much done as hoped, the problems of coming into a partially completed job and working on a very rural worksite. But it has been fun hearing the history of this very strange property and catching up with my friend. And I’e shown my friend some good woodworking tips and tricks that I hope he can use to finish the place.

FCM Safe travels!!

Little brain power for other retention, so yays, boos, and hugs from those appropriate.

Agreed! They need to tell us every thing cause these are our eyes and very precious to us.

The problem is the cataract surgery is so easy and common that while your surgery is something you will remember for the rest of your life, it was just Thursday to them.

Makes me think of those nature shows where the guide shoots a tranquilizer rifle at the grizzly bear then the scientists work quickly to punch a hole in the bear’s ear, then crimp in a radio transmitter and a big bright numbered piece of plastic before the bear wakes up and eats the team for lunch.

Does Hubs know he’s tagged?

There’s a great Gary Larson cartoon along those lines, but I’m on my phone now so too hard to dig up a cite. Maybe later.

pilot - Nice to know those years in West Lafayette weren’t completely wasted! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

ooopsie our phones don’t have international coverage, so texting/chatting via the ship intranet will work for us.

I’m posting via myBWI-Fi at gate E1. We left home 30 minutes earlier than originally planned, and we still got to my sister’s a bit late. Traffic sucked! But we got checked in and thru security quickly. We had supper at The Green Turtle - I had a yummy apple pecan salad with raisins, bleu cheese, and a Vidalia dressing.

Boarding will begin around 9. Wonder if I will sleep on the way… my next post should be from London.

Two and a quarter inches now. Rivers are rising.

And despite knowing that folks are getting wet feet, I just can’t stop marveling at it.

I used to dream about water. Rain, the ocean, rivers, lakes. Now I’m getting almost all of that and the ocean isn’t really that far away.
