Still alive… I fought officialdom and lost this time. There’s still one last thing to try: the washer finally died, so after 25 years and a dozen rebuilds, we bought a new washer and dryer. and were having the coolest summer while everyone’s baking it got so cold here last night that the hose had ice in it … in the desert in June…
have checked out the mmp here and there but haven’t gotten to respond much … anyone heard from shoe or sari recently?
Thanks for the encouragement. It was Aspen Dental, nobody else that had techs on site had openings today. BFF told me that going to them for plate repair was about like taking your car to Jiffy Lube because you had a nail in the tread. She was right, it took almost three hours because they had to do the whole ten-point check and recommend thousands of dollars of work before agreeing to fix my damn plate.
I agree that I could use a good cleaning, it’s been over a year and I do want to get a new plate made, I’ll never trust this one again. None of those things will happen at Aspen. The estimate was for deep cleaning and whitening, with a few filling replacements. I didn’t have time to discuss the cost of getting a new plate from them, but I’m willing to bet that it would have been pearl clutchingly high.
Plumbing issues are the worse. I’m sorry it cost so much, but happy that it finally fixed. How did Stevie take all the fuss, does he object to the noise?
Our housekeeper once won ten grand, you never know!
I’m so happy you are having such a fun trip, you really deserve it.
Go spend a week in Phx. You will never complain about death by AC again.
I’m glad you had a good trip too!
They are just so busy.
I’ve been putting ice cubes in my fuchsia’s pot but it is still struggling. Our 'maters are loving this weather, in a few weeks I’ll be stopping traffic on the highway and handing tomatoes out to anyone stoopid enough to roll their windows down.
My pot of African Daisies are going nutz and my lemon tree is so happy now that it has been transplanted into a grow bag. It just loves it outside, I’ll be sad when it has to come back in.
I’ve eaten that and know that it has a name. Now I’ll wake up at 0dark30 remembering the name just to forget in the morning. It’s good eatin’ and fills you right up.
I’ve noticed that buffets nowadays are making the individual servings smaller, I’ll bet you could have a few bites of pizza onboard once or twice.
I hope you enjoy. Compound sounds pretty safe nowadays.
Not surprising, I think I also mentioned my slug plate full of beer in the same post.
So while we are not under the extreme heat dome (all I can think of is Stephen King’s The Dome), it is still hot. Happily we are still used to being too stinking hot, so are not suffering like other folks are.
My accustomed garb (long flowing cotton pants and shirts) don’t work nearly as well here as in the desert, but I’m scared to walk outside wearing shorts. I don’t think my legs would survive their first glance at the sun in over 50 years.
Glad that you are still alive and that sucks. I’m glad you aren’t roasting, the high desert can get a little toasty at times!
Haven’t heard from sari recently, shoe was just here a few days ago. It was windy and she was having problems stopping small pizza’s from taking off in the wind. Boxed small pizzas.
Good and bad.
The good-its been 6 months since I had a uti. A record. I had 4 last year, 4 the year before.
I dont think Im drinking more but..
Yet now I started an antibiotic.
After 5 and a half weeks, my partial nail avulsion had some pain and got pinker.
So the foot dr called it in.
I regret having the procedure.
Tomorrow I go fill out online onboarding.
Weds I go get free clothes.
Tonight-KillTony!
The cat’s name is Ralphie. He does not like the Roto Rooter guys. He goes down in the basement and hides in the back corner of our daughter’s bed until well after they leave
I’m sorry, he looks so much like our dear departed Steve that I always default to that. I don’t blame him for not liking the noise…I don’t like the noise and I don’t have superears.
Is Ralphie micro-chipped? Our fuzzbutts are not (I’m not sure why I didn’t get GG chipped before our cross country trip), so they are scheduled for their yearly look over and chipping on Wednesday. Hubs is now fussing about how big the needle will have to be and how much that will hurt them.
Does anyone have any words of wisdom to share about the process?
That was my one and only experience with Aspen Dental. It felt like livestock being herded through all the processes before the dentist attempting to talk me into very expensive dental work with a predatory loan as a kicker.
Try SPF50 sport. It will protect you from just about anything short of nuclear holocaust and doesn’t run as badly when you sweat / swim.
Good to see you back shady!
Nelson had his done when he got snipped, so he was out. Had he already been snipped, there would have been no anesthetic needed.
Perfect description, including the “we have financing available” part. Happily, I knew what I was getting into, so told them upfront that all I wanted was to get my plate fixed because my insurance wouldn’t cover anything else and I couldn’t afford it. When the financing part came up, I didn’t have money to pay a monthly bill, either.
I use SPF50 on my hands, neck and face. They are used to being out in the open. My bare legs haven’t been seen in public since I was in my mid-30’s. I also had to wear a bra for my eye surgeries. I couldn’t bring myself to get in the car without one. Quirks, we all has them.
Yeah, I’ve never heard that it was horrible or bloody or anything, Hubs is the one fretting. I guess we could pay extra for a topical anesthetic, but I’m sure the only reason the vet would do it is to humor Hubs. The man had his ears gauged without pain or blood, no reason to fuss about the fuzzbutts getting a big shot.
I lived in Phoenix for about 18 months around '85-86. And the subsequent 10 years in Las Vegas NV. And spent 6 months in Alamagordo NM. And often visited Tucson for a couple weeks per year for decades.
Trust me, air conditioning is vastly overused and vastly overrated. IMO, an admittedly a minority POV.
The fridge is clean. It actually wasn’t bad–no science experiments. I walked to the store and wandered around. I found some small items for the gift shelf, where I put stuff I pick up over the year for birthdays, Christmas, etc..I took Mr. Max for a walk and played with him. His person was an hour late picking him up, but she had a good reason and paid me for the time, so
For those of us who can’t afford to hire all the people necessary to do the drudgery for us or who have unavoidable obligations, it’s really not a choice, so we grumble or wax philosophical or crack jokes. My mother was of a “make the best of it” mindset and led us girls in songs while we helped with dishes. None of us could carry a tune, but I’d shine the stove until it gleamed so I wouldn’t miss the last verse of “Has Anybody Seen My Gal?”
I know that and you know that. Hubs the one who has ink all over his body and gauged ears but still passes out when getting a shot. Sigh. If I could handle them both by myself, or if they could travel without each other, that is what would happen.
GG WAILS and throws himself against the door if he’s in a carrier and can’t see her and she poops and pukes in her carrier if she can’t see him. So, both cats have to go at the same time and between them and the carrier…it takes both of us to move them. Note to self: Next time you are mad at husband, do not buy another 22 lb cat. Geese are much lighter.
The times I’ve chipped my kitties it hasn’t seemed like a big deal to them. It is super quick, one quick punch through. The thing about a local is that the local hurts as much or more than the quick chip insertion-not worth it. Locals are for stitches, etc, not super quick once-and-done pokes. Tell fuss budget hubs your personal cranky night nurse says so. Locals sting, dang it! And kitty skin up where they do it on their shoulders is all loose and stretchy, not like poking a needle into muscle. Is he calmed down yet? I could go on….
The post that didn’t:
Up from naptime. Having an Old Fashioned, and cheeseburger and fries(homemade). Spot is off being cat and mysterious. The outside temp is down to 86F.
I’d ask for the senior tech next time you need a plumber.
This is why I didn’t have grandkids.
shoe posted yesterday. sari hasn’t been in the MMP for a bit, but she was on FB yesterday.
Me: < wears shorts for the first time in 25 years >
Everybody within a mile: “THE BEACONS ARE LIT! GONDOR CALLS FOR AID!”
Having been in Vegas(105 F zero humidity, 2009), and Raleigh( multiple 105 Heat Indexes, every year since 1989), it is good for killing off humidity(105 with zero humidity is more bearable that a 105 heat index).
The current post:
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s currently 81 degrees Ferret Height(27.2 Centipedes), with a Heat Index of 88F(31.1C).
Morning strong text(at least here) all. At the buffet and just finished breakfast and am watching the coast of Norway draw closer. Unlike FCM, only two stops here but the scenery is already spectacular. Going ashore about 11:15 this morning for a tour and then back on board to continue the cruise.
Best wishes to all of you, one of my highlights each day is checking in on the MMP.
And now my nose is running like a politician so need to obtain tissue. Take care all.
Good call. When we first moved here we tried them. It was a very, very bad situation. Yelling and ugliness ensued.
Yesterday was kind of a blur except that I had an interview that went well. It was the rescheduled one. I actually got invited to a second interview which will happen next Monday. The weirdest thing about it, though, was when the interviewer and I started talking about silverware art and I showed her a couple of the utensils that I had laying around. The best part was when she told me that teachers generally have off two fridays per month and the salary is starting at about $2K higher than what I made at my last teaching job.
Today will involve (hopefully) making spoon rings and picking up groceries from Walmart. Not much more as I’m trying to recover from this dose of the GLP-1 that I’m on. My doctor actually told me to go off of it completely until I feel better and then to work my way slowly back up to a lower dose.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 73 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 95 and sunny. It’s laundry day! The peasants rejoice! I foresee quality cee-mint pond time as well. Sup will be cabbage junk and cornbread.
Nellie we have always called it cabbage junk but I am pretty sure there’s an official name. Another ground beast dish from back in the day is “Ralph.” It consists of ground beast, onions, grated carrots, diced N.O.T., and a can of English (early) peas along with assorted seasonings all cooked in a big pot. The name comes from the “ralph” sound your stomach makes when attemptin’ to digest it.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Regarding the chippage of critters - they barely notice - none of mine even flinched. I think Taz was more upset about not being able to explore than the chip.
What a night… blech. I was having a dream that I looked at the clock and it was a tad past 4. Then my bladder woke me and I saw it was just before 2! No biggie - plenty of time to fall back to sleep, right? yeah, right I started feeling drowsy close to 6 and dozed for maybe an hour. So blech
Did I mention that yesterday I got rid of a metric buttload of kid stuff from my basement? Daughter took the kids’ kitchen and the electronic piano that used to belong to FIL. Then I ran an ad on FB marketplace and a woman came and got a bunch of plastic furniture that the kids had outgrown. Final step (one of these years) will be daughter coming to sort the remaining toys into 3 piles - stuff to stay here for the kids, stuff to go with her, and stuff to be rehomed/donated/thrift-stored. Then my basement will be mine again. Some day…
Today, I intend to finish with my sewing, then I’ll clean it all up. That’s as far as I’ve planned. Oh, and I’m doing a walk-thru with Casey to show her things that she’ll need to attend to while we’re gone. I printed a calendar and I’ll let her make notes on it as necessary. If I accomplish all that, I might even rollsuck. Or nap. It’s a toss-up.
Extreme heat is forecast again today. It’ll break by the weekend, but we’ll be on the ship by then. I hope. Nothing is guaranteed in life, not even that the ship won’t break down. Yeah, keep a happy thought.
