And it’s mid-afternoon here and I just got back to the ship after my tour. Was ok, got to see some rural Norway and some nice sights from the upper level of the bus but was trapped between 4-5 Spanish ladies who talked loudly and constantly and belonged to the MIWNFFAMD.. Mothers I Would Not F-bad word For A Million Dollars…so it was a long 3 hours. FCM, if you are stopping in Alesund, do the fjord tour or wander in the city (the pier is right next to downtown. Am resting now (did some serious climbing yesterday it’s catching up with me). Nappage now before dinner so take care all.
Yeah, the antibiotic had a side effect (amoxcillin) so no onboarding today.
Yes, I stopped taking it; will see dr tomorrow.
That’s not one of our stops. We’ll be going to Andalsnes, Trondheim, Honningsvag, Hammerfest, and Alta - hmmmm, 5 stops, not 4. I’m gonna guess that different cruise lines go to different cities, other than the biggies, like Bimini or San Juan or Rotterdam.
OK, the weather cloths are FINALLY done!! (I hope) And wouldn’t you know I’d figure out the best way to fix them on the 3rd try. No matter - as long as no one who knows anything about sewing gets too close, it’ll be fine. I also did a good rollsuck down there, emptied the trash, and moved some furniture around since I got rid of a bunch of the kids’ stuff.
The dishwasher is empty and I’m about half an hour away from lunch. Casey emptied the dishwasher of the things she could figure out and I did the rest. She’s doing some schoolwork now (working on her PhD online right now. It’s thru Kent State, not Fred’s School Of PhD and Bait Shop!)
As I was pushing the rollsucker around I got to thinking… remember not too terribly long ago when, if someone wanted to show you photos of their grandkids, they’d have maybe 2 dozen at most in an accordion-folded insert in their wallet? And today, they’ll have hundreds (maybe thousands) of pics and videos from birth to just yesterday when Skippy did the cutest thing with the dog!!! I try not to be that grandmother. In fact, I’ve deleted most of the photos from my phone - they were from when I was babysitting the grandspawn and sent pics to Daughter during the day. Nobody wants to see Tobias cramming pasta in his gaping maw!
Anyway, that’s what I was thinking about. I think I’ve earned a chill till lunch.
did much laundry last night. tonight will be putting away it all away, cleaning bedroom and bathroom.
i’m in the throes of deciding on when to make over the bed. i usually do it on a friday night. not going to be possible this friday. it is either tonight or tomorrow.
fcm, i really like the daily rug! how fun, and ever so helpful.
jtc, stretch never noticed, lager and koritza noticed, but didn’t fuss about it.
You have no idea!!! It was a shorter cruise, but long enough to lose track. I hope they’ll have the same thing on our upcoming trip.
Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 20c/68f with a predicted high of 24c/75f and mostly cloudy. Weather app says “Today has no fucking idea what it wants to be. Cloudy. Not fucking cloudy. Whatevs.” Yes, definitely - it’s cloudy but very sticky, there’s been sun and non-sun as well.
I have had a very trying day, thus I have read much and retained little. We released all of our final year students’ results yesterday and have had a barrage of questions back from the whingers and whiners that I’ve been trying to sort out. It’s is utterly exhaustipating!
metalmouse I’m glad to hear you’re enjoying the cruise. You’re right, puffins are human-haters and they poo everywhere. Stinky little things, but pretty to look at. One of my school friends was leader of the Shetland Islands Council a few years ago. I only see her when she comes down this way to show her working dogs at Crufts
Mooom it is indeed a genius idea to change the mats to remind you what day of the week it is!
I have 16 minutes more irk to do today, I suppose I’d better go and see what more nonsense they can come up with!
Good Morning!
It’s 62°F and mostly sunny outside. We’ll have a mix of clouds and sun this morning, changing to cloudy skies by this afternoon, with a daytime high of 83°F.
I missed posting yesterday because I went back to bed at 3:00 a.m. and then slept in until around 6:30. I got up, showered, and then went to T’s house to water all her posies. After leaving her house, I went to Lowes to look for some inexpensive filler annuals. I didn’t really find much there, but I did find a delphinium that I’ll either pot or put in the ground. I was also on the hunt for a rectangular planter, but they were pretty proud of their planters, so I paid for the dirt and few plants I got there, and headed over to Home Depot. While at Home Depot, I found the one remaining and very healthy type of hydrangea I was looking for, and snapped that up, along with some plants they had on sale.
I came home, had some coffee, and then ate lunch. After eating lunch, I went to work watering everything in the front and back, and then planted all the plants I’ve purchased except for the delphinium and the hydrangea. I need to transplant a bananas and cream daisy that is still in the nursery pot from last year, a newly purchased echinecia, and three plants I divided or dug up weeks ago, and are sitting on cardboard nursery trays with giant rootballs, yet thriving.
Oh, I also purchased a praying mantis egg case, and when I notice they’ve hatched, I’ll release them into the garden. I wanted to buy ladybugs, but they were out, and I’m not paying $ 20 and then $15 shipping to order them from Amazon.
I really needed to get started on the front garden and take a break from the back for a minute.
MetalMouse, I’m so glad you’re enjoying your cruise so far. Hopefully, you won’t be near the loud chatterboxes on your next tour. Frankly, that would get on my last nerve.
FCM, it’s hard to believe that your departure is nearly here! The months of planning, and now you finally get to leave!
I’m glad you got the plumbing issues sorted, Hippie.
Yay for a good interview, Sticky! I hope the second interview is even better!
Enjoy your vacation, VanGo!
Alrighty, time to get going! I have things to do and need to get the day started. I need another cup of coffee, though, so those things will have to wait until I’ve drunk the requisite amount of coffee.
I have a cat on my lap, purring. I need to go make my life-giving first cup of coffee-she refuses to. Every time I think about getting up she nestles her face up by my ear and purrs louder. So much for coffee fetching.
The contractors are here to fix the closet wall, which is good. That only leaves the bathroom sink drain to be done. A weird thing: the toilet in the master bath has a shutoff valve inside the tank. I’ve never seen that before. It apparently shut itself off during the last water outage. The wife discovered the valve; I never would have thought to look in the tank for one.
Road construction continues. Last I looked, there were nine guys standing around and two digging in a hole. I’m assuming at least three of them are equipment operators.
Sadie is in hiding, as there are strange things happening in her environment and strange people doing those things.
And they can’t find the one they’re looking for, so you just stand there watching them scroll and mutter, “Where is it?”
We refer to the elevator day rugs as “ship’s panties.”
snort! good one.
i want those rugs in all elevators.
I want them on my front porch.

Happy Doperversary, chefguy!
I’m currently “squatting” in an empty office near my cubicle: as of an hour ago I had MS Teams meetings from 11am-4:30pm and I really don’t want to wear headphones for that long, so I’m borrowing an office*. My program is spread across 3-4 floors, and this is the only empty office I’m aware of: the guy who was in here retired a month ago, and his backfill hasn’t been hired yet. My 11am-12pm meeting was cancelled a little while ago but I still have one from 12pm-4:30pm, so I’m staying put…and taking advantage of the cancelled meeting to post!
*Right now my entire team’s seating is temporary while work is being done elsewhere in the building: at some point we’ll relocate, and as a manager I should then be able to get an office with a door. But for the time being the position tied to this office is a level above me, and therefore not a permanent option.
Bailey’s tummy was better when I got home yesterday, but sometime in the wee hours she was incontinent in her dog bed (just being an old dog, not a sick dog). I cleaned up her behind as best I could this morning and will take a few more swipes tonight, but dried dog poop in fur is stubborn! And, that part of her is really hard to get to with just one hand (I have to use the other arm to hold her up): I have to try to wipe and move her tail at the same time. I’ll see if I can get a groomer out to the house on Thursday or Friday…it’s been less than a month since her last bath, but I need professional help for things like this. I’ll wash the dog bed cover when I get home: right now the whole bed is up on the kitchen table, so she can’t get to it, and the “backup” dog bed is in place.
I’d argue that you still haven’t.
Thanks for that Wikipedia article, though: the company that developed the PIT maneuver runs the driving education programs at Summit Point raceway in WV, which is where I took the two cars of mine that I’ve tracked! And, the first police department to use it is in the county where I live (they started using it well before I moved here, but still).
Same thing with pet photos. Heh.
Oh, dear…you are well and truly stuck.
No gum under the desk? No mysterious stains on the carpet? Has a cell phone signal?
In other mundane and pointless a/o miscellaneous and personal news, today I finally looked up “rump-fed ronyon” so I could Shakespeare more effectively.
Is there a mobile vet in your area? I’m thinking even a farm vet might be willing to chip GG as part of a farm house call. There would be a charge for the call, but it may be more doable than getting Hubby and Jolene involved.
Should I give you my Aunt Janelle’s recipe for pink stuff for dessert?
My morning ended up with me being PO’d at a ding-a-ling Marketplace seller. She got back to me late on Saturday to set up a buy of plastic totes for moving. We set it up for 0830 in the grocery outlet parking lot. She texted me at 0832 to say that she was running 20 minutes late because her dog got out. So I waited. at 0854, she messaged me to ask where I was…she said that she was parked under a shade tree. I told her that there were no shade trees where I was. She got mixed up on the location. She had two more buyers meeting her at the Hardees 10 minutes away. I asked if she was going to be able to come to my location within 10 minutes, she gave me two more excuses, so I told her to forget about it. I did manage to pick up some peaches, frozen mangoes and peanuts while I was there, but, yeah, two hours wasted. She did offer to deliver them to my home for a fee.
Now I’m back home, coffee in one hand and doggy in my lap. I’ll pack up a couple of more boxes in the studio today.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
Ah, Shepherd’s Pie Without a Shepherd.
No (heh), no (heh), and yes – but no better than I have at my desk. In this building, the best cell reception is near a window: this office has windows, but my cubicle is at the end of a row and therefore also “has” windows. Really, except for when I need to talk with/about a direct report (or don’t want to wear headphones for multiple hours) I’m fine with my cubicle…and, so far the workarounds of squatting/booking a conference room don’t bother me much. They’re currently short on offices for line managers like myself, but I know I’ll get one after the buildout on the other floors is done.
Next to my bed would be best for me.
Thanks! I had to do the math three times, as it doesn’t seem possible. In 2003 I was still in the workplace and living in Alaska. I had just changed jobs and would hold three more before saying “to hell with it all” in 2008. We then spent twelve years in Oregon, and have been in MN for the past three years. I’ve owned five cars, two homes and two motor homes in that span. I went from having two grandchildren to having twelve (including step-grands). I’ve lost my sister, my brother, and one of my kids. My wife lost her mother and one of her sisters, and recently one of her good friends. And we’re on our third cat.
