FCD likes to scroll thru videos and he stopped on one about airline fares. Apparently the latest way to squeeze more money out of travelers is to charge more per seat for a single traveler as opposed to someone with a travel companion. What next - a charge per square of TP used???

I received news this morning that a long-time friend and colleague, who I’ve known since 1997, died unexpectedly two days ago from “a short illness”. She couldn’t have been more than 60, if that. She was a piano teacher and collaborative pianist (accompanist) at the University I’ve been affiliated with for thirty years. It’s not only sad, it’s going to completely change the landscape of the music department.
I am supposed to call tomorrow to see if the computer “terminated me out.” I wonder if I will ever have a job.

Yep, setting up the app is a bit of a pain because I can’t reset the password, even with help from Holland America. The agent said wait a few hours then try it again. No biggie - I have to wait till 9:20 to check in for our flight, so I’ll be up. But it’s always something, isn’t it?
I’m going to go chill for a couple more hours.

Shake Shack was truly a disappointment. $17.70 got me a 4 ounce burger with cheese, an order of fries, and an undrinkable cherry limeade. I don’t know if it was my taste buds or if a container of soap had been emptied into the limeade, but I took two sips and threw it out. I snapped the QR code asking how are we doing and let them know exactly how I felt about their overpriced food and undrinkable drinks. They’ll probably send me a coupon.
Shake shack is NYC’s idea of middle American comfort fast food. Expensive, lousy, and tone deaf.
Just got an interesting and almost tempting email from Holland America - this cruise we’re taking is very popular and for anyone who will give up their reservation, they’re offering 100% refund plus 100% credit on a future cruise… I know FCD doesn’t want to go because of the boat work…
So you can take the same cruise at a future date for free? Wow.
I’d think hard about that unless I was worried about failing long term health such that “later” would probably turn into “never”.
I’ve never heard of a cruise line overbooking but to me steeped in airline ops this sure smells like an overbooking scenario.

I’ve got customer satisfaction crefits on Viking from our abortive northern Norway cruise in Feb. They expire a year from that cruise, so 8 months from now. I need to get ass in gear to spend then somehow. Lest I waste the better part of $10k.
I totally understand. You have already done so much for her, selling the house is probably the best thing you can do. Then you can just stop answering her calls.
If you let the place heat up, the AC works much harder to bring the temp back down. If you set the temp at 80 while you are gone, it won’t have to work as hard to bring it down to 75.
Or at least, that’s how it worked in AZ…back when we worked full-time.
Do you have room in your freezer for a sheet or beach towel? If so, put one in before going to work and then you will have a nice cold sheet to cover yourself or lay on.
Back in the day, I learned that using the same words didn’t help, so if someone didn’t understand, I would always change how I worded things (just like you, I’m sure). The problem now is that Hubs is deaf. When I talk, he will miss a word and want me to repeat myself exactly so he can hear that word to fill in the sentence.
That is so hard now despite knowing what is happening. Old habits are so hard to break.
I hope you are feeling better now. It kinda sucks when you change your sleep schedule involuntarily like that because then you have to readjust.
I have a list. I add things like that and then take great pleasure in crossing them off. I feel even more accomplished when I have used up all of the paper and have to start another list. It shows I’ve done something!
That sounds like a great reward for going that far just to get poked and prodded!
At our age, now is when we need to start putting things in place for then. I like to think that I will be able to live alone until the end but also know that I need to plan for if that is not realistic.

I guess that’s a blessing. She’s so lucky to have you, so many people aren’t willing to care for an elderly pet. We see them at the shelter all the time and often they are there for heartless reasons.

We always had everything on drippers in AZ. Ain’t nobody heard of them out here. I’ve been hand watering during the heat wave, but we usually get rain at least every couple of days, so we aren’t convinced that we need to do it here.

So, the vet visit went well, except for the part that their AC was broken and they had workers out while we were there. Poor GG overheated so badly he was still panting by the time we got home.
They didn’t react to getting chipped, but I could tell that GG was over it by the third vet tech cuddle. It was just too hot for that.
After we got home, I put more ice in my fuchsia plants pot, there are a few flower buds developing so the poor thing might pull through. The tomatoes are super happy and my lemon tree is covered with new leaves. It really likes its new grow bag, now it has room to spread its roots!
Hubs grilled his test steak today and it passed. I noticed the lack of inspection marks on the meat or packaging and told him that he was eating a bootleg steak. No inspection mark means the revenuers didn’t get their tax money.
(I’m not sure how much that matters nowadays, what with the USDA being gutted and all.)
It is hard to overstate how much food and water fuchsias want. I’ve always kept them in lieu of hummingbird feeders with 3 hanging pots. I put 2 teaspoons of powdered Miracle Gro in a gallon of water every day and drench each plant with a third of the mixture. The fuchsias thrive!
Lots of plants don’t want that much water or feeding, but fuchsias seem to love it.

Wow, that’s a whole lot more than I’ve been using. Thanks for the advice, I will start doing that tomorrow morning. Or maybe tonight, it’s still almost 90.
I knew to keep their roots wet, but I could tell that the heat was really getting to it, which is why ice has been happening.
