Hooray for the cruises. Good luck to FCM on today’s / tonight’s flight and hotel process.
As to metalmouse … When I went on my Norway cruise back in Feb commasense was on the same cruise and we met up regularly. He’s a great guy and they’re a lovely couple. On one of our stops one of the shore excursions was to take a long (>4 hour) bus ride to Flam, ride their train, then bus back to the ship. He and his wife did that; he’s a bit of a railfan. He said it was really a beautiful experience and well worth the bus ride. His wife seemed more neutral on the benefit/effort ratio. Meanwhile, Boat Babe and I chose more local activities onshore and then back aboard. Rabbits may have been involved; I don’t specifically recall.
Yesterday for me was housekeepers followed by a quick stop at the groc store. It rained, sprinkled, or was cloudy until about 3pm, so once the sun emerged to stay then I beached and dinnered a few miles downcoast until late. When sunset is a bit after 8pm, starting beaching at 4pm works well; the sun angle isn’t quite as burny so I can last longer comfortably.
So far today’s weather looks like a replay of yesterday’s. Raining right here right now but the radar shows it’s spotty around the region and with luck will all move offshore soon. Suggesting the rest of my day will resemble yesterday: sunny and sandy w intermittent food and drink. But sadly solo. Of the two loads of housekeeper-induced laundry, the sheets are now drying, and towels are now washing. So the weekly drudgery is partway done. My own weekly clothes pile got done Tue morning after I got back Mon night.
There’s a large mass of t-boomers offshore and along the Keys that is wreaking havoc on the arrival flows into MIA; I can easily see how ATC is tearing their hair out now, talking at 500 mph while airplanes are pin-balling all over the sky evading the obstacles. Best of all: Not. My. Problem.
I had become a bit concerned that as much as I enjoy my apartment warm (78/26) and therefore a touch humid (60-80%), I might eventually start propagating mold. Which would be bad. I have temp / humidity gauges in 3 spots and sometimes their readings are a wee bit
higher than building management would prefer. Oddly, despite the last couple of days’ raininess, the indoor humidity has been lower than earlier this month when it was sunnier.
I’m sure as hell not going to use my HVAC to freeze the humidity out of the room as everyone else does. That’d freeze me out of my own home; total nonstarter. It did, however, work for HL to freeze me out of her home. Thanks HL; that really improved my life.
Da Jungle yesterday helpfully sent me a dehumidifier which I’ve put into action today. Sadly I can’t plumb in the drain, so I’ll be emptying its tank at some interval. It’ll be interesting to see how much effort it has to go to to keep the place both warm and dry. And how much drudgery I’ll have emptying its tank every x hours or days. My guess is daily-ish. We shall see.
Probably enough drivel for one day. I did read everyone upthread and offer my congrats, hugs, and condolences as appropriate. Oh yeah … and trouts although I’m not quite sure why. Perhaps swampy can explain.
Cheers and good wishes to all!
