(Old) Everybody's hiding under a rock in the MMP

If you do, you might try Nook over in St. Paul. They also lay claim to the Juicy Lucy, but they have better options, a larger menu, and plates for your food. I haven’t been there, but I want to try it.

Doctorial appointment went fine. Haven’t lost my mind yet, BP is good. Gave them some blood and peed in a cup (sadly, it was someone’s coffee). Got an ortho referral to treat the bursitis.

And there’s lunch. The rest of the curried chicken salad, and an avocado. Went to the periodontist for the deep clean on the second quadrant. Had to wait for the numbness to wear off before I ate. We’re going to Paso del Norte tonight. I’m hankering for some jalapeño poppers and a couple of fish tacos a la carte. Wifey, RN is still out, so I’m getting through an episode of Fear The Walking Dead.

Well, I had called the store. It wouldn’t let me screenshot my pay. I gave the guy my log in info.
I looked later and that 40.04 which was from 3 weeks ago has now been pushes to 2 years ago.
Damn.
Do not patronize chipotle!

It’s quiet again. SIL dropped off the kids around 9:30 and we hung out in the basement till it was time to have some mac-n-cheese for lunch. Then around 1, I took them home, meeting Daughter outside Great Clips so Tobias could be coiffed. Roxy and I went to Aldi, then I took her home. But, duh, I forgot to print out the documents for Daughter, so I invited them all back for supper.

They’ve gone home. It’s quiet here again. I foresee an early bedtime.

I keep starting long replies and then either get a phone call or have to nap. Oh, and my internet went out after the hail storm the other day. I’m woefully behind but have read all the posts and will keep some of my replies from yesterday.

Hooray! I tested negative today! And no more fever! Yippee! I still have no energy. Also, my voice is hoarse enough that I could probably make The Three Little Pigs sound porkographic. BUT in all other ways, I’m doing a LOT better! Yesterday was my last day of isolation, but I was too fatigued to actually go out today… I’m so happy to be on the mend!

My cousin called last night. I had to explain my hoarse voice, or I wouldn’t have told her about the COVID. Sure enough, she goes off. “Oh, those vaccines don’t work! They said they’d offer 100% protection [ No, they didn’t.], and then it was like, ‘Oops! Guess not!’ And that distancing! They admitted they made it up out of thin air!” [No, they didn’t. They had to compromise with the Trump administration.] She yells, and I can’t raise my voice, so I just kept changing the subject.

My kids and siblings and friends have been calling and texting daily. I am so lucky!

Of course it would! Fingers crossed on qualifying for disability, and I’m so glad you have Annie to comfort you.

VanGo, I used to teach middle school kids. It helps to pretend you’re dealing with 30 people with dementia. The average eighth grader has an attention span of less than 10 minutes, and they’re not in synch, so you repeat everything three times. (“Open your books to page 86.” (A beat.) “Turn to page 86.” (Two beats.) “That’s page 86.” (Three beats.) Kid: “What page?” I bet MetalMouse can relate.

Taters, I’m so sorry work is burning you out. You’re worth so much better than what you’re dealing with.

Yes! Is it OK if I stand over here by you?

This is why I don’t invite trout to my parties.

doggio, I’m honored to present this laurel and hearty handshake for those brilliant lyrics,

As a wee lass, I had an imaginary playmate named Applesauce. He lived in one of the embossed flowers on our plaster mantel. (Another imaginary playmate, “No-No,” lived in the other.) I can therefore attest that Applesauce folks are nice people.

Hooray for getting the taxes sorted, Sticky!

Add me to those misreading this. “Careless” sounds like it’s just as accurate.

Misnomer, I’m amazed and delighted by both the piano and the Camaro.

Hey, another Keeping Up Appearances fan! Hooray!

JtC, I’m horrified by the idea of Coke in a margarita. Is it at least Mexican Coca-Cola?

Congrats on the house JtC! Once you’re settled, let us know when you’re up to travel to middle Tennessee to Mump out.

Friday chores are done, 3 quarts of vegetable broth made (in a couple of weeks, when I clear out some space in the freezer, I’ll do chicken broth) and supper et.

Nelson got to go to the dog park today and when we got home, he got a little more social time with my neighbor’s grand-puppie Blue, a 12 week old Shi tzu and the poodle girls next door.

I looked at my calendar to see when my tax appointment was this year and it wasn’t. Given the date and the fact that mine aren’t overly complicated, I’ve set aside time tomorrow to do them online myself.

Now for studio time.

No fish tacos for me. :frowning: Apparently there was a kitchen fire.

Bad news, we had a small fire in our kitchen and will be closed for repairs for the next week or or so. Will keep you all posted here…cant wait to see you all soon-paso crew

So we went to the Smuggler’s Tunnel Speakeasy instead. I had a pulled-pork taco salad (and a couple of Hemingway Daiquiris).

I Krogered midday and when I checked out, I had 1867 points… So, I decided to go back early evening and buy $6 worth of groceries which would translate into 24 points which would total 1901 points so would get $1/gal off once and 90 cents off a second time in April. As it turned out, when I went back I spent $15.19 so 60 points except the total was 1979 points. I guess my sister must have gone and put in our phone number. So, I didn’t even go out to the car, I just turned around and went and grabbed 2 boxes of Cheerios that were BOGO. They’re $5.99 but my total was only $4.99 due to a mfg coupon that was applied so 2 family size boxes of Cheerios for $4.99 plus 24 points giving me a total of 2003 Total March Fuel Points. Yay!

Besides all the Krogering I gave Hubs his infusion; had to run back up 3 times because the pump was acting up and beeping saying there was an occlusion when there wasn’t. Also my BFF came over, she had been to Costco and got a big jug of maple syrup for me. About the same time a delivery guy came with the infusion supplies for the next week so I signed for them and put the pouch of scipt bags into the refrigerator. Then BFF and I sat in the sunshine in the backyard and caught up for awhile.

I had bought salmon for Hubs, it has magnesium which he needs, and I asked him to make it. We had pierogi, peas and corn and new england clam chowder with it. Then I’ve been watching Sweet Sixteen games. Don’t want to jinx it so I won’t mention how well a board alum’s team is doing so far with 5 minutes to go in the game against Marquette.

JtC very glad to hear that it’s working out in your favor.

I have no idea what either of these words mean. At first I was a little concerned when JtC mentioned the word ‘cult’ but then it dawned on me it must have something to do with needlework of some sort.

Thanks swampy, I hope it was holy and good for you as well. I observed by watching part of the service from the Vatican, then a meditation on the 7 Last Words which also included a choral meditation.

ok, I can now report that this year’s Cinderella appears to be 11 seed NC State. They’re into the Elite Eight after beating Marquette 67-58.
Congrats doggio but save the big celebrating for when they’re into the Final Four.

Howdy Y’all! We did get fish mcsammiches for N.O.L. I only want one durin’ Lent. That is enough to remind me they ain’t great. Still, gotta eat at least one durin’ Lent. I be weird like that. We also went to the Good Friday service.

I read all, but right now can’t respond due mostly to the fact that I am almost at my bedtime curfew, so yays, boos, hugs, noogies, trouts, chitlins and how you doin’s all around, as needed.

You know, better fast-food fish sandwiches do exist. Jack-in-the-Box, Arby’s, Popeye’s…

I napped. At least till some children had mirth outside, and Spot went stampeding across the bed. I made shrimp and penne with garlic bread. I made a cocktail with OJ, gin , lemon juice, and honey. It’s Bee’s Knees, Daddio!

I think it is their best.

I’d also like to join The Order Of Quiet Extroverts.

the Men’s and Women’s team made the Elite Eight.
WOLF!

Went to a church service. I love that place.
I come home to see an oreo feral and it let me pet it!
After my text exchange with my former boss, he’s taken me off the schedule.
I wasn’t going to work for a company that doesn’t pay me anyway.

The short answer is because I want to look out our windows and see green. Hubs wants to move somewhere green because he loves me and wants me to be happy and we picked that area of West Virginia because his family is there.

All of his family have always been warm and welcoming to me, otherwise we would be looking at Washington state. That is green and close to Mom…but Mom isn’t going to be around for that much longer.

Our new place is very green, but as it is close to the river, we won’t be getting nearly as much snow as folks in St. Albans and the place with the french name that starts with R and sounds like ronsfort but has many more letters.

We will of course have another catio and think that we will steal Flyboy’s idea of using coated fencing wire instead of plastic lattice. It will probably be under the overhang by the parking area.

We have been staying at the Hampton Inn and they provide a decent (by hotel standards) hot breakfast. The nice sun room I used to needlepoint in the mornings was attached to the dining area. Breakfast was over at 10am. I watched the kitchen lady totally refill all of the food items around 930 every morning…wouldn’t want late guests to feel that they were eating leftovers!!!

At about a quarter to 10, hotel staff started arriving to do their part in helping to stop food waste.

Once they were gone, very little had to be thrown out and this guest was very amused.

The kitchen lady was very nice, worked hard and mopped around me while I was stitching (yes I did vacate when I realized what she was doing), so I handed her a 20 this morning. She started crying so I felt bad for upsetting her and apologized which made her laugh/cry until she was able to tell me that I was the first guest who had ever really noticed her as a person, much less gave her a tip.

I’m undecided if I will ever do such a thing again, I don’t like to make people cry.

You are so fortunate to be able to find actual margaritas, it is a barren wasteland up this way!!!

I’m glad you aren’t going to Dallas for the eclipse, I don’t want to share my eclipse viewer fame with anyone!!!

I tried mine out with the full sun and it works just like it should. Science is so much fun

As to your daughter, she will be fine. I know you can remember 100 mile stretches of road with no services, but that isn’t today. We are on our way back from WV, currently in Rollo, MO because I wanted to go a different way home…different things to see.

We haven’t lost cell service the entire trip. There are plenty of “travel centers” to stop for gas and other important reasons, she won’t have to risk stopping at Billy Bob’s Gas and Bait store by herself.

You raised a smart and capable daughter, she won’t fall apart if she gets a flat tire because you and Mr IL taught her so well.

I hope your tree does well. I also hope that the Dixon family continues to thrive, farmers are so important and so overlooked.

I am so happy you are feeling better! I have hay fever so my eyes and nose run badly at all times. Sometimes I’m drippy and sometimes I’m dry. I’d probably lie about what caused me to be hoarse if telling the truth would get me yelled at.

When his family brings up politics, I just tell them that I don’t bother with all that sort of stuff, hubs does that for me. WV hillbillies have a kind of a weird patriarchal society that is run by women. “He’s the man of the house, but I’m the one in charge” sort of thing.

Well…considering that their salsa was canned red enchilada sauce, I kinda doubt it.

I’m actually worrying about cooking for his family. If that was the best Mexican restaurant in the county, they won’t like my food because it doesn’t taste like what they are used to. I use spices and stuff.

Thank you and I’d love it! Of course I’m expecting to meet Nelson at the same time!

Well, hubs is out of the shower and it’s my turn now. I’ll try to finish catching up later.

Huggles to all.

JtC Maybe poke a couple more holes in the foil? I know you’ve got needles. During the last eclipse I thought it was cool to see multiples of the crescent. Although I was just seeing that though tree leaves.

And congrats on the house! Sounds like your first order of business on getting the place will be the same as mine. Tearing out carpet. I signed papers, came here and ripped up the rug in the living room.

Yes, of course we can all hang out! First round’s on me.

You two put me to shame with your level of participation in the MMP, However.

Had a nice visit with my SF friend yesterday. We spent a couple hours at a cool little brewpub off the Strip. He had three beers; I had one beer and two seltzer waters since I had to drive home. We watched the end of the Giants game and he said he misses going to games with me.

Then last night I got a phone call from an old work friend in Chicago, whom I haven’t seen in over 11 years! He said he was thinking about me and just wanted to see how I was doing. We chatted for about a half hour. As it happens, I’ll be in Chicago this summer, and we made plans to get together. What a pleasant surprise!

This morning’s doctor appointment went well. No drama. I think I like my new Doc. He’s young, but seems very thorough and thoughtful. We talked about my previous heart issues and I got a cardiology referral. He gave me some advice about exercising (which I agree I should do more of), but doesn’t seem like one of those judgmental “lose weight and all your problems will go away” types. Mostly, it’s nice just to have the “I have a doctor” box ticked after a year here.

Mrs W and I went to the Pub for dinner and the wine bar afterwards, where we enjoyed some live music, a very good jazz/R&B duo. Now we’re parked on the couch and she’s snoring away. Bedtime soon.

Been a nice couple of days.

I knew tonight wasn’t gonna go according to plan when I pulled up and Sweet Manager’s car wasn’t there yet - she’s usually an hour before the rest of us to get stuff started.

She was too sick to come in.

Crap.

Then one of the other crew also called out sick, so she dragged herself in anyway. Between the sinus pressure and the side effects of whatever antibiotics she’s on, she was uncharacteristically irritable today. (Which I 100% understand.) But her nickname here really is a reflection of her usual personality - in addition to being a pun on her IRL name - so it was a bit startling - and frankly, amusing, from a safe distance - to see her pull out The Bitch.

Plus, Car(e)less Co-worker was doing his damndest to get his ass canned today, I swear. He burned so many pizzas in a row S.M. finally sent him to the back to scrape pans.

Worse, my favorite Oven Master got stuck out of state on a personal trip, so guesssss whooooooo covered for him & unexpectedly closed tonight?

I swear I have not worked one shift this week as scheduled. I mean, I was mostly hired for my flexible availability, but dang …

I will say this, though: closing with The Guys was waaayyyyy better than the all-female crew I usually close with on Saturday nights. I think imma mention to S.M. that if perchance a guuurrrrrlll is allowed in the boy’s club  and if I should happen to be scheduled to close with The Guys again, I would not be at all sad about it.

The girls fuck around too much. We were outta there in twenty minutes tonight - that does not happen on Mrs. Scribs Night.

Fine. Take away my card at the next Women’s Meeting. (Guys, you uh … didn’t know we have those?)

Anyway, now I’m soaking my messed-up toenail in yellow Listerine and consoling myself on an unexpected Long Night shift with a few slugs of booze, the requisite half a joint, and a couple of those Ferrero Rochelle chocolate hazelnut thingies. I love those.

Overall, the shift was hectic A.F. until after sundown - I mean, like, bad - but then swung upward, and I even got a “Good job, tonight, shoe” from Crankypants Oven Master (the one with buttloads of restaurant experience, whose opinion I genuinely respect) and now there’s a kitty purring in my lap.

Plus, I hopefully won’t sleep through most of Easter Sunday, since I damn well better not be closing tomorrow.

And speaking of sleep …

Me, too!!! I run hot (in winter I have the window right by my bed open a smidge, so I can get a cool breeze across my face) but I love the feel of heaviness on me.

'Tis a conundrum, it is.

Oh, honey, don’t let a few tears stop you from doing good when/where you can. Those were tears of joy - I guarantee you made that woman’s week.

Me, too! That was the best part - seeing the shadows from the trees cast on the sidewalk, and how they changed from moment to moment.

Alright, (wo)man cannot live on cheap whiskey and pot alone. Time to find something edible and go make a dent in my pillow.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. Spot is off his rocker and doing zoomies.

: clutches pearls :

I figured that’s why y’all always go to the restroom in packs.

Yay!

For a sec I thought you were talking about tinfoil hats and not eclipse viewers.
:

IT’S RANDY RAINBOW NIGHT!!!

Apart from being our first sorta-date in ages, I am so excited to see the fabulous Mr. Rainbow! I love his videos and I think he’s very clever and talented. Can’t wait!

I’m also hoping to maybe play in the dirt a bit today. It’s supposed to hit low 60s which should make for comfy physical exertion - I need to dig out my veggie patch in anticipation of some fresh new dirt. We’ll see how that goes.

I was yelling at MIL last night - not out of anger, but because she asks for the TV to be turned up during Wheel, then she asks me stuff and I have to repeat 3 or 4 times for her to hear me. I understand, I truly do, but it doesn’t make it any less irritating.

< deep cleansing breaths >

Anyway, Happy Saturday!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 46 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 76 and mostly N.O.S. ‘Twill be a bzzzy day of prep for tomorrow’s big Easter feast. An executive decision was made (by both of us) to do a sour cream pound cake instead of cheesecake for dessert. It’s a really good pound cake that starts off bakin’ in a cold oven which makes for really purty crumblies all over the top of the cake. Anywho, that gets made first, and then other stuff gets made/prepped. The ham will get cooked today just cause it’s easier that way. I am sure we will manage to work in sloth, nappage, and day drinkin’ so never fear. Any need to feed will be via forage as we have leftover stuff in the fridge as well as plenty of sammich makin’s and stuff.

JtC can’t remember if I have said this or not, but yay on the house. Hope y’all will be happy in WVA.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Food makeage awaits! Rah.

Happy Sattidy Y’all!

My mom makes a pound cake that also starts in a cold oven - it’s her standard take-to-share-at-a potluck cake, or it was back when she went to potlucks. Hers doesn’t have sour cream, tho.
