(Old) Firin' up the grill in the MMP

i keep the brown frog at my desk. the frogs were so fun!

we did a mix of green and pink.

Howdy Y’all! We procured provisions and then achieved nappage. We’ve been to Sonny’s and are now back in da cave with full tummies and contented. It’s been rainin’ out since we got back which is always nice. Chillage now ensues.

MetalMouse I’d be happy at the Tower of London if they had bbq sammiches, fries, and sweet tea. One person’s gruel is another person’s banquet and such.

Niner yay for the interview! Appropriate/inappropriate appendages shall be crossed.

Oopsie is the Eiffel Tower in such a place that it would be easy to bump into and possibly knock over? If not then I think it looks good elevated. I have a special talent for bumpin’ into things, however.

Cookie sorry about the credit card woes. I’d be suspicious about it bein’ an insider thing given the number of times it has happened.

Pilot hope you’re feelin’ better. Also, when in doubt, nap.

Nope, never owned dogs. Mom only allowed goldfish as pets. Hubs is highly allergic to dog dandruff and daughter is also allergic. However, her husband really really really wanted a beagle and after about 5+ years living together, she gave in and just takes a lot of allergy medication. So, first they had Dakota, who was a purebred blue tick beagle. They adopted her at Midwest BREWfest - Beagle Rescue, Education & Welfare - and had no idea she was purebred. I fell in love with her. After 4 years, she went over the rainbow bridge and 5 months later they adopted Bella, who has strains of about 6-8 different types of dogs, the most of which is chihuahua but also some GSD, Australian cattledog, terrier, etc. At first I was so conflicted because of my love for Dakota; I felt I was being disloyal to her if I liked Bella. But after a few visits, Bella captured my heart. They’re coming for a week’s visit Father’s Day weekend and I can’t wait. Bella is my walking pal and she is the best!

The nuns wanted to double promote my Sis from 1st to 3rd grade; my parents declined which likely was a good decision as her birthday is in October and she would have been almost 2 yrs younger than some of her classmates; I know she could have handled it academically but socially, not so sure

There were some wonderful nuns and some ok nuns. Sister Regina, 1st grade teacher, was pretty good. My main recollection is that we had these pictorals and each time you read a book, you received a sticker to place on the picture. I filled an entire one and was well on my way on the 2nd by the end of the year. No one else had finished their first. As I mentioned earlier, Sister Pierre was the best. One time she told me to tell my Dad that variety is the spice of life. I was the spicy student. Had Sr. David for 3rd grade and I don’t have any recollections from that year. Had Sr. Dominic for 6th grade, she was just ok. The Catholic schools were not awful; just sometimes some things that happened were awful. We actually received a better education than the public school elementary school students. I went to the public school for Jr High (7th-9th) as did about a dozen others and we were definitely ahead of the students who had attended public school for elementary school. Am biting my fingers to keep from responding to more of your post.

There are a lot of purple flowers growing up this way right now. I have purple columbine, purple basil; saw purple iris and some other purple flowers on my walk to work today.

Well, I need a break now. Hope I feel up to coming back later this evening.
.

I was born on New Years Eve and would have been allowed to start kindergarten when I was four. But my parents waited until the next year and I think it made all the difference in my development. Now starting dates have changed and it would not be allowed to start a kid that early.

JtC, you may want to rethink watering the fuchsia during the heat of the day. Water plus sun tends to cook your poor plants. Morning or evening works best for most of us.

Yay on Echo adjusting to the puppies sari. They’ll all figure out the pecking order.

Good luck on the interview niner.

Yikes cookie! Like metal mouse, I would find another bank to get a credit card through.

Cool Legos oopsie!

Irked in several areas today. It’s finally beginning to feel like summer.

Like Mooooooom. not all of the nuns who taught me were mean. There was always one novice that all the boys had a crush on. Sister Aloysius was marvelous.and a hell of a kickball player.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

I just wanted to share this recipe I just found and haven’t tried yet.

That is all.

My wife’ s credit card got compromised several times in Taiwan, and it’s not fun.

Speaking of grades in school, when I was in 7th grade, my first few report cards were all A’s except for a B in PE for this uncoordinated kid. (And the B was a very generous B)

My father wouldn’t let it go. You would expect most crazy parents would be all over the kid for not having perfect A’s, but not may father.

He got angry at me for thinking I was too smart and not “humble” enough. I’m damn sure that had I “bragged” the first time I sure as hell wouldn’t have do it again, but simply having someone do well in the family was a threat to his insecurity so he wouldn’t let it go.

I adjusted my PGA to a B average through high school and he was happy about that. I even failed a few classes and that was cool. Just don’t do well.

Evening all. Swimming and Sauna and Soccer have all been completed, along with a little extra shopping (first Kroger didn’t have fat free cheese slices (I had a coupon) so stopped after swimming to pick that up (along with the New York Times and some 2-Liter Pepsi Zero). Then as I was getting ready to fix my ham-n-cheesers for tonight, my grill went bad so off to Wal-Mart (which didn’t have any) and then Target, which did (Black+decker Family-sized Electric Griddle - Black - Gd2011b : Target). So evening meal has just been finished as I watch the Amtrak going around the Big 10 curve heading into Denver. No plans to move much until bedtime.

Debating taking the garbage out, Thursday is the usual pickup date but Monday was a holiday so they usually run a day late on pickup…we’ll see if I have any ambition this evening to get dressed and haul the can out to the curb.

Pilot, things just averaged out for me. Social Studies and English were usually A’s and B’s without too much effort, but I had to work my buns off for B’s and C’s in Science and Math courses. IIRC, ended up with a 3.18 GPA for the career. Once i got to college and could study only things I liked, made the Dean’s list about 8-9 times. Glad to hear your not encountering the plague again.

Oopsie, usually it’s Saturday that the lawns get the treatment here, been quiet today. Love the LEGO’s but no opinion on the Tower.

Well, the Guards there are historically known as Beefeaters, so your odds may be good…

Cat Glove, enjoy the visit with Bella! (oh, and wiuth her humnas too…).

Sensei, I’m sorry that your father was that insecure. I was the first person in my Father’s side of the family to graduate college and he was just so proud of me…

OK, have about 5 You Tube vids to watch all lined up and ready to go, so have a good night/good morning all.

Up from naptime. I dreamed I bought a house, then it got weird. The coffee maker and toaster were in an outside alcove in the back corner of the yard. And the “garden” was just chunks of root encrusted dirt clogs covering this orange pipe(sewage? nuclear waste?). then a tiger broke in, and I had to wrestle it, and hold its nose closed till it passed out. Then the English royal family showed up(Conscious me: “GO AWAY, WE’RE AN ANARCHO-SYDICALIST COMMUNE!”). Spot decided to not participate in this one. I had a martini to deal with having to deal with dream Camilla.

I love the set up!

Honestly, I’d just switch to a new credit card company. Or hide your porn purchases better.

Galileo! Galileo!

I went on a dog looking drive after work, and there is a house that has frogs on the top of the gate posts. First thing that I thought was “Innsmouth HS class of (18)95” :frog:

September

It’s been more than a little busy around here lately the last couple of days. I got home from the ER Monday night, feeling so incredibly tired. Which I guess should have been expected. I did get something to eat on the way home, which was both good and bad. Good because I hadn’t eaten anything all day, bad because I had to be so careful. But sleeping was what helped the most. The hardest thing is going to be trying to remember what I can and can’t eat until I can get myself healed up with this ulcer.

Yesterday was a day full of getting things done, though. I got in touch with my doctor. She’s setting me up for an endoscopy. I also set up a couple other medical appointments. And an appointment to both get a new tire on the car (we found out Saturday that my driver’s side front has a nail in it) and get an oil change. I was also really far behind in creating characters for a role-playing convention that I’m attending in a couple weeks, as well as sending information to the players in the two games I’m running. So I spent a large part of yesterday taking care of that. I still have a couple characters left to do but that’s mainly because I’m waiting on other people for them. But it was a really great feeling knowing that I was getting so much knocked out.

Today was supposed to be continuing that forward motion of getting things done (which also had the added affect of keeping me from thinking about what is going on between MFN and I) but it didn’t end up staying that way. I did end up going out for a walk this morning with CtE. I got two miles in, which is something that I’d been doing regularly up until a couple months ago. I’m trying to get back into walking regularly too. After that, I was supposed to get cleaning done but I was tired so I rested. It was supposed to be a nap but I wasn’t very successful at that. Still trying to work through all the emotional stuff.

I took CtE to therapy tonight. I made a stop at the library to pick up some stuff and managed to break down in front of my librarian friend because I thought she was trying to tell me that she didn’t want me volunteering anymore. Like I said, I’ve been emotional and it’s coming out at all the wrong times.

CtE did have a good session with their therapist. CtE and their therapist made up a goals list, broken down into parts. Part of it is regarding getting their bedroom cleaned and how to keep it that way. The other part was in relation to things that they like to do to support themselves during Pride Month. They were pretty happy when they came out, which hasn’t been the case the last couple of times. Some of it could be the fact that they aren’t dealing with school right now, but I think making these goals has helped them.

I hadn’t heard of her before, but I’m definitely going to have to look out for her. Because yeah, that cracks me up too!

I love how middle school boys think. Yep. Reminding them that you’d be seeing their moms was a perfect gambit for them.

I never went to Catholic School but I’ve had many friends that have told me horror stories of their time in Catholic School. Instead, I had to deal with a small K-12 school in the middle of upstate New York. I was there through 9th grade and was in a graduating class of about 30 kids. Through elementary school, we were split into two classes. High school was more the kids on the academic track taking Regents classes while the kids that were thinking more blue collar jobs taking the general education classes. It was a huge change when I moved to Florida and a school with a graduating class of 400. No horror stories from the big school, but my sixth grade teacher had it out for me. She decided at the beginning of the school year that she didn’t like me and that was that. There were so many little snide comments that she’d made and it didn’t do much for my self esteem.

There’s recycling here is great if you’re in a house but no so much if you’re in an apartment. We keep a couple of bags and bins and have to bring them to the local convenience center to drop it off. I usually try to bring stuff at least once a week and they’ve gotten so they recognize me.

BtY’s birthday was just a few weeks after the cut off date for kindergarten, but we were could have him tested to start earlier. We did get him tested because I thought it would be better for him, but he didn’t do well on his fine motor skills. It ended up being the best thing for him. As he got older, I realized that him being one of the oldest in his class was better for him, especially since the ASD often caused him to act far younger. I’d realized that even though he probably would be accepted into the same school CtE was at in 7th grade like CtE was, he wasn’t mature enough to be at the more rigorous school. All of this to say, yep, I agree with you whole heartedly on this.

GodBod, good work on the exams and congrats on the graduation stuff! I hope you have a wonderful vacation!

Aaand… I am getting really tired so I’ll try to get the rest of the comments later. Have a great night all!

Hurray for a successful passage through high school. College is much more fun. IMHO.

Of course she does, dogs aren’t stoopid!

If it helps at all…hubs was an excellent speller, he was better than a dictionary because you have to know how to spell the word to be able to find it in the dictionary. Then came computers and spell check. He started depending on spell check instead of practicing his skill…and now he speels like I do.

He complains about it to other folks who used to be good spellers and they all agree that their mad spelling skillz went to shit when they started using spell check.

So, knowing that your daughter must spend a lot of time on her computer…even if she had learned to spell as a kid, she might not be able to do it now.

Thank you for the innfo. I have a doctor appointment tomorrow, I will ask about it. I ain’t skerred of no pneumonia shots…I did my shingles series.

I first met Mr. Johnston when I was a freshman, showing off in Algebra class. Mr. Johnston took the challenge and told me that when I could pass the final, he would start teaching me trig in the last 10 minutes of the class while all of the lesser students studied their beginning algebra. I took him on and passed the final the next week. He gave me books and directed me and corrected me, but mostly just let me do my own thing while insisting that I take the main tests because he needed to cover his butt with paper.

He had me doing college physics the next year. He was really disappointed when I told him I was joining the service, but still wrote a very nice letter of recommendation for me. I still have the letter.

I’ve read forward and know that you don’t have covid, which is good. I hope that whatever it is that you are suffering with goes away quickly.

Heh. I developed split personalities. When I was at work, I was a totally different person. Coworkers seeing me out and about in public rarely recognized me, which was a good thing because I was a floozy afterall!

I’d have caned someone long before now. You have the patience of a grade school teacher.

We all know that you are good, it’s great to know that the world does as well.

See… you weren’t quite as arrogant as me. I maintained an A average while goofing off just to show off how smart I was. See? Straight A’s and I don’t even bother to pay attention in class, I just read my science fiction while answering all of the questions, even the hard ones.

I’ve matured since then. Somewhat.

I like it on the surface. It looks tippy elevated which would annoy me if it was in my living room. But that’s just me and we all know that I’m a little strange.

Having all of your work together is very impressive looking.

Thank you, you are right that I don’t usually water during the day…well except for the misters, but this is my first fuchsia and I’m concerned about the heat. When it hits triple digits, I might put ice cubes in the pot. That seems to perk my columbines right up.

My people!

I keep hoping that Darci will be picked up and scanned. Poor girl must be so scared :frowning:

Well, yeah, but it was your first time. Of course you wouldn’t know what to expect because it has never happened to you before.

I’m so glad you are feeling better, you had us worried for a while.

It feels so good to be so productive, doesn’t it?

So, currently it’s 81F and windy. The clouds are blowing in and I’m hoping for an early and long monsoon season.

I picked up produce today and got soooo many ugly oranges. I ate one and it was really good, so I spent an hour hand squeezing them until I remembered that my cheese press would do double duty as a juicer.

Hopefully I will remember about it next year when I get a full crop of pomegranates. (which I speeled right the first time!)

My Tai-chi instructor asked me to pick up a box for her which I did. She was amazed at what was in the box and offered me a free class every month for picking up produce boxes for her. No. Just no. I am already there and I get them for free. She’s just being silly and I plan to ignore her and keep putting my money in the donation box just like always.

Yesterday our housekeeper was hinting that she wanted some cottage cheese. “Hey, Jane, I was wondering when you were going to be making more cottage cheese. Yours is so much better than what I get from the store.” I’m glad she isn’t subtle, I tend to miss things.

So this morning I put some milk in my favorite pot and got started. Tonight, as I was slowly bringing it back up to temp at 1 degree per minute, I learned that either the burner or my favorite pot has developed a hot spot. I’m really hoping that it’s the burner because that was an expensive pot.

I couldn’t feel any dings in the pot when I moved the curds to the strainer, but I’ll be checking both pot and burner carefully tomorrow.

I’d really like an electric cheese pot that I can use on the floor, but I need to find a new cheese buyer before putting that kind of money out on what is currently a hobby. (replacing both burner and pot will only cost about a fifth of cost of the electric pot I want but really don’t need even if it does have bells and whistles)

(and is shiny and comes with an app for temp control)

FWIW, I like the Eiffel without the elevation. Seems more grounded and stately.

They came back with Part II.

I make everyone ask me a question in English at the beginning of class in order to sit town.

The resident Wise Ass asked me today if I think my wife is beautiful! (My son is in the class so they all know my wife.) Of course I said she was and the class laughed at the question because Wise Ass got one over the teacher.

This is actually one of the things I like about teaching, the interactions with the Wise Asses. The point is to allow them to “win” some if they think hard enough. It gives them a motive to study. I have no patience for kids playing around just to play around and I shoot that down immediately, but I give them an outlook for creativity.

Good god, I hate that. There are so many people who shouldn’t be teachers.

Whenever I find myself not happy with a student, I try to find out why I don’t like that part and work hard at finding other good qualities in them. Often they respond to respect.

As a consequence, I tend to get the bad kids put into my classes because I can deal with them. Well, not everyone, of course, but more often than not.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.
Spot is currently bunny kicking Hedgebunny.

Morning, mumpers! It’s a cool 11c/51f with a predicted high of 18c/64f, and mostly cloudy. That fits with what I’ve seen on my way to campus. Weather app says “Except for the clouds and the assholes, it’s a decent fucking day.” Sounds about right to me, I have four meetings today and a lunch date with a friend so it will be productive in a way but not a lot of actual work will be done.

We had a minor emergency in the Little Paws team yesterday, one of the fosterers had a water leak at home which resulted in a collapsed ceiling. The call went out for volunteers to take her six foster cats until the place is fixed and the room is habitable again. Now I have two new tails in the house, Cherry and Blossom. Cherry is a fluffy black cat, and Blossom is mostly black with a white face.

I have seen very little of them, we opened the carrier and got a glimpse of a fluffy tail as Cherry made a hasty exit and disappeared under the bed. Blossom stayed in the carrier and had some fuss from me but also disappeared under the bed at some point. They haven’t touched yesterday’s food so I put some fresh out for them this morning, haven’t seen them but I am sure I heard rustling from under the bed.

Shadow saw them arrive, I put the carrier down on the landing as he was coming out of another room. He looked at it, sniffed, and then sidled round it to head downstairs. He has been back upstairs again, sniffing towards the closed bedroom door. He seems curious but not too bothered, possibly because I placated him with salmon instead.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 67 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 84 and partly N.O.S. for the day. Be nice if’n we got a good rain like yestiddy. We shall see. No big plans for the day so sloth and general overall uselessness are the foreseen agenda. Sup shall be cubed steak, rice ‘n gravy, squishes, baby lima beans, and rolls. Da bear is in the mood for some down home cookin’ and is also in cook mode.

JtC the child in me says go for the electric cheese pot cause it’s purty and shiny and fancy. The adult in me says go for replacin’ the pot and burner cause it makes more economic sense. Given my proneness to immaturity, my inner child would likely win out. Maybe you’re more able to tame your inner child than me.

BooFae I’m with Shadow. I can deal with most anything if it means I get extra good treats.

RealFish glad you’re feelin’ better. and are gettin’ stuff done. Hope the doc can find the real root cause of it all and get you on a course to heal the ulcer.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah,

Happy Thursday Y’all!

Pfffft, it’s only money… :stuck_out_tongue: I’ve forced myself to adopt that attitude about certain things at this stage of my life. Our needs are met and we have extras, so why not spend it on things we want or would enjoy? Like a boat…

Daughter got the tuition sheet for the Montessori place. For 2-y/o and up, it’s $1310 per month, plus they have a 3-day plan at $985 and a 2-day deal at $855 We could swing one of the shorter plans, giving me more free time and giving him more interaction with his peers. So there are options that don’t need to be exercised till November when he turns 2. (I’m sure it’s the law about student/teacher ratios.)

Had a terrible time falling asleep last night, but then I only woke once, then slept till AFTER 6!!! I never do that! Then I found out FCD is out of his toothpaste - the man never tells me when he opens the last tube. So Tobias and I may ride to WalMart, since they’re the only ones who carry it AFAIK.

This evening, we’re moving the boat from Washburn’s to Zahnheiser’s - there’s a guy at Z’s who cleans fuel tanks, so we’re going to have him do ours. Then we’ll take the boat back to W’s so they can replace the generator water pump, and then we can take it back to home base. It’s been out of its slip for two months!!! Yoiks!

I foresee a weekend of much waxing. Please feel free to stop by and grab a rag! Really! We don’t mind the company!!

Meanwhile, Happy Thursday!!

Good morning.

It’s 46F and cloudy outside. The high temp will be around 68F, with cloudy to partly cloudy skies. The sun never busted out around here yesterday, although my co-workers further south of me saw sunshine.

Excellent work on the Lego, misnomer! My youngest sister is also into Legos.

Dang, that’s still a lot of money for eight days of daycare, FCM! The plan is still for the kids to have found a permanent daycare solution that’s not YOU by next year, right?

Today is my Friday, and thank goodness! It’s been a short week by workday standards (off Monday and tomorrow), but Tuesday and Wednesday were long. The MPA’s daughter is due to have some heart surgery as soon as insurance approval comes through, AND she starts jury duty next week, so she’s already warned me she will be taking leave for the surgery. If it were my daughter, I would do the same thing, but the timing is pretty sucktastic.

At least I have a three-day weekend and haven’t made any plans. I plan to hang out around the house and plant flowers. May was a hectic month, and I just need a weekend where I’m not committed to going anywhere or having people over here.

I guess I better finish my coffee and run the dishwasher.

I said I’d deal with them till Roxy finished kindergarten, which will be this time next year. And, yeah, it’s $$$ but the difference it made in Roxy was amazing, and her brother deserves the same chance. We’ll just see how it all plays out.

Something weird today - Tobias came in and didn’t run immediately to get applesauce. But he did want a cheese stick with his Sesame Street. We’ll see how the day goes.
