(Old) Fun Facts in the MMP!

The yard work in this neighborhood is handled by a company called Sodfathers. They were out there yesterday. First they picked up the leaves that fell after they were here in the fall. Then they put down stuff to feed the grass and keep the crabgrass from germinating. Lots of roaring and scurrying about.

I’m hawngry, and it’s time for breakfast!

'SFriday. Why is it Friday?

No coffee failures today. Although, as usual, when I want a second cup I’ll have to negotiate with the mass of kitties sitting on me. They are generally not receptive to such mundanities.

Full day of teaching today, then a hopefully relaxing evening. My wife has a rehearsal tonight, so just me and the cats.

Morning all. Slept well and woke to a nice bright morning, 55f and heading to 80F for the first time in 2025. Awaiting the return of the plumbing folks, they need to patch up the concrete they had to drill out and put the dishwasher back, so that will leave me a couple more things to get back to full normal, but at least I won’t be having to go outside and turn the water on and off all the time (but I’ll still check it periodically).

Soccer practice went well, had 9 out of 11 boys there and they seem to be reasonably civilized for 9 year olds (once they get comfortable with each other, it’ll be noisier I’m sure…). First games are tomorrow (Saturday) so I need to work out my playing times…all the boys must play at least half the game and none can play the whole game unless everyone has played 3/4. I also try to use 3-4 goalies during a game so no one kid feels ‘stuck’ in there, so it takes a lot of planning…which usually falls apart because one or more of the players don’t make it to the game…

Have checked the water gauge and the fix seems to have taken, was gone for over two hours and the dial didn’t move, so I’ll check it a couple more times before relaxing.

JtC, you’d be fun at actual live auctions, wouldn’t you? And hope you get well insulated.

Pavo, no bugs here, I pay a service to keep things good, And you’re a much kinder soul than I am, any bug that does get in the house does not live to see the outside again. Rest and get better, there will be more concerts in the future.

flyboy, I like kids, but have no talents with babies so stick with making funny faces at them…

nellie, far as I know I’ve never fallen for a scam, usually hang up the phone soon as I hear the background noise of other folks working the lines, but I do worry about it as I grow older. And someone asking me to buy gift cards is a non-starter. Hope sister has learned her lesson.

I thing doggio is our master at drollery… Now drool is another thing altogether…

Me too, but it’s never the same place twice, it’s the whole system that is messed up…builder of a lot of the houses on this street didn’t use top-grade materials in the plumbing, so after 20+ years…I’ve seen lots of plumbing trucks on the street in the past few years. Hopefully they have rebuilt so much of it now that the problems are done, but I’m not betting on it yet and will keep an eye on the meter now and then…

boo fae, IIRC from my renting days, paying first (and sometimes last) month’s rent up front is not unusual in the USA, the references and passport indicate to me that the landlord has been ‘burned’ before by scam-renters and doesn’t want that to happen again…or maybe he is just a jerk, you never know. Hopefully 'Im Indoors can find suitable housing soon.

FCM, enjoy your day at the zoo and hope the traffic isn’t too bad.

And onward into the day. Have a good firday all.

Some of it is the feeling that it didn’t harm me, so why should I harm it, but part of it is also “that’s a big bug, and will make an unpleasant crunch.”

I will happily squish ants if I catch them in my kitchen.

Yes, I like kids too. They’re cute. I would have liked to have had a couple. But they do make me uncomfortable if they get into my personal space.

JtC cute sofas (although I agree with boofae that GG needs a sofa!). Also, sounds like the hotel is perfectly placed for a little mini vacation.

nellie so sorry to hear your sister got scammed. Does she know about the EZ Pass scam texts that seem to be a popular one at the moment? And scam texts or phone calls claiming to be the IRS will be ramping up over the next couple of months as well - they say unless she pays right now that the sheriff will be on his way to arrest her and try to shake her down for gift cards. I know several people that have fallen for that one because the scammers are high pressure and know basic things like your address, what county you live in, etc.

boofae I must have missed it - what went wrong with his current place? Sorry to hear he’s having a tough time finding a place to stay.

It’s going to be a cloudy day today but unfortunately no rain. Which means I need to stop putting off going to the car wash. It’s a half day at work and I think I’ll be meeting a friend for lunch - she’s gotten a great job offer but she’s hesitant to take it. She’s currently on unemployment so I’ll try to knock some sense into her!

it allowed me to[/quote] mentally say a big FUCK YOU to the clown in charge of the CDC

I like that. Did you read that that suckwad told people to give their unvaccinated children caster liver oil to keep them from getting the measles and it complicated their treatment.

It’s Friday so it’ll be a very busy day. Have already filled Hubs medicine boxes up to the morning that we go to his Dr for an inperson visit on 4/8. Have a load of laundry agitating away. Need to pay my CC, wash dishes, go Krogering, Hubs wants to go walk in the Museum and possibly to a fish fry at church today. Most importantly the Spartans tip against Ole Miss at 7:09pm. The ‘Other School’ and Purdue also have games tonight. Unfortunately Maryland was unable to win their game against Florida last night.

She looks so comfortable in that chair, GG needs a sofa instead

GG size cat food watching couch~although a betting woman would put her money on both kitties piling on.

Happy Firday!

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, bed stripped / remade (I put sheets on from the linen closet instead of waiting on the last set to finish drying, plus, I put on the new bedspread), bedding / towels in the dryer, jeans in the wash, everything else on deck and half finished with houseirk. Go me!

I’m setting up for my annual family cookbook project later today, but other than buying groceries, no other concrete plans today. There may be a trip to the dogpark this afternoon for some outdoor time though.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

I’m not totally sure  I know someone moved out and a new person moved in who is very loud and generally annoying. When asked to do simple things like turn the tv volume down, he flatly refused and of course the landlady isn’t willing to get involved in disputes like that. As he’s only paying month to month and doesn’t have a lease, it’s easy enough to just walk away from it.

I’m sure there’s more to it than that, but once he decides he’s not happy about something, there’s not much point trying to salvage the situation.

Oh geeze. Scammers are the worse, I’d sure give them several mighty wacks with my cane if I ever got close to one. Please don’t blame yourself, people who make their living lying to other people tend to get very good at it.

Do be sure and warn her that now that someone has gotten money out of her, all the other scammers will be lining up to try to get some too.

Have an easy drive and a great day at the zoo!

I’m assuming a book will be involved?

Oh no, I have no patience for them. All of that back and forth a dollar or ten at a time just ticks me off hence my stomp technique.

Online auctions are even worse because you can set a thing up with your max bid and it will automatically outbid (by a dollar) people until it hits your max bid.

…and it seems as though I shouldn’t check the auction after a couple of shots of 'shine. Now I have four pieces with stomp bids. I checked my search history and it seems as though I wasn’t as drunk as I though, I did check prices to be sure I knew the value of each piece.

They are nice pieces and look like they will be fun to do so I’ll keep watching them.

I agree. Once they get old enough to tell you what they want/need, they can be a whole lot of fun. That’s when I turn into bad aunt and teach them how to put olives on their fingers or how to stomp empty soda cans so they fold around their shoes and they can clatter around and make a glorious racket.

It’s in the middle of a big shopping complex so I’ll have plenty to do if I get bored. I just know that hubs will be sitting under our carport so he can be available if any of the workers needs him. (they won’t, they are professionals and don’t need or want untrained help wandering around their worksite).

I did. I am also reading that children are showing up at ER’s with liver problems due to taking too much vit. A to avoid getting the measles because their parents are idiots as well. ARGH!!!

I am so glad your husband is able to be out and about now. He’s one of the reasons I am so good at keeping my vaccinations up to date.

So cute! I did look for a faintin’ couch for him, but they don’t come in middle school sizes. I don’t see why not, my early teens were very dramatic years.

So it was supposed to rain today, but now the forecast calls for rain on Sunday. That means the grass seed hubs spread yesterday won’t get any water. Hubs is talking about going to Lowes and getting some sprinklers. I know I have been encouraging him to get a hobby, I just didn’t expect him to take up grass growing.

I think the Texas/measles idiot parents are giving their kids cod liver oil as a purported measles preventive and/or treatment remedy, depending on which form of crazy, ignorant they are. Cod liver oil is a time honored way to get vitamin A and D into kids, especially in the winter when they were less likely to spend enough time outside to get enough from sunshine. I suspect it was also clever marketing on the part of cod fisherman to cod livers instead of pitching the guts overboard or into the harbor. My birth mother grew up in Portland, Maine, the epicenter of cod fishery mid 20th century. She found herself in north central Iowa raising 4 kids. Every morning before school she’d line up the four of us in the kitchen and feed each one of us a tablespoon of cod liver oil, going down the line like a drill sergeant. Swallowing it was not optional. At least none of us got rickets. Nasty tasting stuff, bright yellow, 70 years later I can still remember the taste and smell and the cod liver oil burps 3 hours later at school. Nowadays cod liver oil more often comes from Norway instead of Maine but I bet it still gives haunting burps hours later.

Castor oil (no liver involved) is indeed out there but was primarily used as a strong laxative. Some used it to bring on labor for women past due or to empty the bowel before childbirth. It is a plant-based oil, not smooshed fish livers but has as many old wives tales supposed benefits, none of which have proven to be medically effective, except for the unpleasant laxative effect.

Now, please excuse me, I have to go make another cup of coffee to wash the cod liver oil taste memory out of my mouth.

Drematologist was great. I have something, I forgot what its called. I am getting a shampoo scrip I am to use 3 times a week.
Its something to do with too much yeast, which makes sense: 4 rounds of antibiotics every year for my uti’s probably contributes; and I get yeat underboob if I wear a bra too often.
So my hair will slow down the breaking.
Church guy is feeling improved so yay.
Its supposed to rain so boo.

Thank goodness Mom didn’t make us take that stuff, I’ve heard how awful it was. I once tasted caster oil on a dare. It was very ick and I never did it again.

Back from getting my covid booster, thank you for reminding us that we needed it.

Today’s shot giver lady was amazing, she slipped the needle in so smoothly that I wondered if she had even done it. I wish I could have gone to the pool after, that really makes a difference in the soreness.

No, they can’t read.

It’s finally my last day of unplanned leave/last day between contracts! Woot! My old contract got cancelled a month ago today; it feels like longer. Others have been dealing with worse/more serious stuff, but the work rollercoaster (furloughs! layoffs! extensions! interviews! offers!) made for quite an exhausting March. I’ll be glad to see the back of this month.

The cleaners have come and gone, but I’m not going to the mall for new work clothes today. My blisters from Tuesday are still kind of raw: I took the Band-Aids off this morning, to give them some air, and I don’t want to cover them up again yet. I’m a slow healer…I’m just hoping to be able to tolerate actual shoes (vs flip-flops) by Monday morning. And I’m grateful for the “heat wave” that will keep my bare tootsies comfy over the next few days: today’s high is supposed to be 73, tomorrow will be 85 (!), then Sunday will be 79. I might hit the mall sometime this weekend, depending on how my feet feel, but if needed I have a few old blouses and sweaters I can wear for the start of the new job. I’ll definitely have to get more “working in the office” stuff NLT next weekend, though.

So, this will be another day filled with sloth and Lego. Poor me. I should finish my newphew’s Batwing today, and then I’ll start the Ghostbusters Firehouse HQ – which has the most pieces of any set I’ve built (251 more than Notre Dame).

I’d say it’s actually perfect timing, so we can all be here for you! :people_hugging:

So cute!!

:face_with_symbols_on_mouth: !

Several years ago, my dad fell for a gift card scam: he’s retired but works as a church organist, and got an email from – he thought – his pastor stating he was out of town but needed help buying iTunes gift cards as a present for his niece. Luckily he had no idea how to buy them, and asked me. It was before that scam was well known, but it immediately sounded fishy to me. Dad’s ego can be a little fragile, so I had to gingerly step him through it (“why would he need help buying gift cards just because he’s out of town?” “did you look closely at the email address it came from?”) until he realized it wasn’t legit. He was very embarassed, but I’d never been so happy to be his tech support! Who knows how much money he might have lost.

I was thinking “ok, I guess” until I got to the passport copy thing…WTF?!? Passports can be requested/shown as one type of proof of ID/citizenship, but at least here in the States I can’t imagine one ever needing to be copied! Let alone to rent a room! That would have been a big honkin’ red flag to me, too. I’m glad 'im indoors decided to look elsewhere.

Ha! :joy:

I was loading again. Today was Bottom Red(3 cars) and Bottom Green(1 car), and I started 30 minutes after the loaders. I was working on it when the drivers got there.
Driver: “How’s today going?”
Me: Good apart from loading a 4 car set."
Driver: “You loaded this?”
Me: “Yeah.”
Driver: “Can I keep you?”
:grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
Anyways, laundry is in the dryer, so it’s naptime.

Unless the house is the embassy of another country, no.

And true, at least for the non nocturnal animals.

Nifty. If Spot didn’t already have a full sized human couch, I might buy him one.

Double yay!

Are you the Keymaster?

I hate scammers.

Was it … a yeast called Candida causes candidiasis?. Yeast is a type of fungus… [bolding mine]

I sent a really excellent article on yeast scalp infections from the Cleveland Clinic to your PM.

Nurse Boo

And I do appreciate all the kind words and support.

Zoe was very mopey yesterday and didn’t eat much. Very unusual for her. Today she is acting much more like herself. And she’s definitely not hating all the extra attention.

I know her little kitty brain will eventually forget. Our human ones won’t, but we’ll be OK too.

Pfftt…I’m Gozer, b*tch.
