(Old) Fun Facts in the MMP!

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 9c/48f with a predicted high of 14c/57f and cloudy. Weather app says “Best fucking day ever! Oh, wait. I was remembering another fucking day. Forget I said anything.” OK, but I feel better today so it’s definitely good for me.

Maybe not exactly fun, but a great fact to know. I’m glad there was at least one Whitehall official who had a sensible thought there.

Welcome back! How exciting for the sisters to be close together again! Does it mean you and BIL will be getting together too?

Sorry to hear you are feeling bad, cats seem very good at knowing when we need their healing cuddles and purrs.

Over here, they’d most likely be fishcakes. Or, more specifically, salmon fishcakes

I am sorry for your grumps, but really proud of that lady - she’s taken on the mantle for you while you’re out of action. It’s not going to be a quick race, you’ll be needed later, and you need to rest so that you can wield that cane with maximum effect!

What a great day for you! Have you thought about which job you’d prefer to have, obviously you’re going to be offered both of them so you’ll have a big decision to make. And good news for DH too, definitely a happy house today.

I had to attend a dept meeting yesterday afternoon that didn’t finish until 5.30pm so I was glad to have been at home instead of on campus for that. Afterwards, I fed the cats and then emptied all the bins so I could haul the biiiiig bin out to the kerb for today’s collection. I still hadn’t been feeling hungry and I’d got a spare portion of chicken curry in the fridge that had come out of the freezer on Friday (intended for consumption on Saturday, but that didn’t happen…). I looked at it and just didn’t fancy it, so into the bin it went. I had a Marmite sandwich instead.

Today I was up at my usual time, slept relatively well although I’ve still got a bit of a headache. I’m feeling better and have attempted a cup of tea. Took a while to drink it, but at least it takes me a step further away from the Last Rites!

The binmen have just been so I need to go and haul the biiiiig bin back to where it lives. I’ve also moved the car out onto the street as I need to do the grocery shopping today so that I have something for campus lunches. Big news of the week is that I will out for lunch with a colleague on Friday, we used to have a fairly regular Friday lunch date until last August when she had a stroke. She’s just come back to work on a slow return, and this week will be her first Friday on campus so we are celebrating by having jacket potatoes.

Today’s work list includes finishing the minutes from yesterday. They shouldn’t take too much work, I just Don Twanna. Then they’re out of my way and I can get on with staff reviews instead. Or maybe I’ll write my shopping list. Or both.

I swear, I’m turning into an old man with prostate problems. I was up every couple of hours to visit the necessary. Not conducive to a restful night’s sleep. On the other hand, definitely conducive to keeping the sheets dry, so there’s that.

We’re supposed to have a rain-free morning and possible rain later today. I’ll get out there and find another chore in the yard - I’m thinking the garden in front of FCD’s shop - it needs to be raked and the butterfly bushes should be trimmed back a bit. I think. I need to look that up on line. Anyway, them’s the plans after it warms a tad and I shower and dress.

Outlook is becoming a vital part of my brain. I just got to thinking that we’ll have to pay our Fed taxes next month, and while I have it set up to pay automatically, I need to be sure there’s enough in checking to cover it, especially since we’ll be out of state when it comes due. So a reminder is set.

Outlook also reminds me that tomorrow is our semi-annual HVAC check. We’ve got a contract for them to come twice a year to make sure all is well with the house and the shop units. The only thing about it that kinda irritates - they won’t schedule a specific time. I’ll get a call when they’re on the way. Not a huge deal since I plan to be home anyway, but it would be nice if they could narrow it down to morning or afternoon. I know things can come up and service can take longer than anticipated, but dang!

Yeah, yeah, first world problems.

I’ll just finish my morning surf, then shower, dress, and grab a rake. Happy Tuesday!!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN* ‘Tis 56 Amurrkin out and N.O.S. with a predicted high of 75 and N.O.S. Today is laundry day. The thrill of it all is almost too much. Sup shall be boxed lasagna (don’t judge!), sallit and cheesey garlic bread.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Tuesday Y’all!

Morning. Better, but still under the weather. Trying to decide if it’s worth it to try to power through a day of teaching or give myself one more day of rest. I actually have a day built in for this job so I wouldn’t have to make these lessons up, but I was hoping to save it for the week after Easter (my church job is at the seat of the Archdiocese, and Holy Week is insane. Nice bonus paycheck, though). My wife suggested that I could mask up, but snot and sneezes and masks ain’t a good combo.

Having some coffee while I ponder.

My bladder did the opposite, I’ve recently been getting up twice a night to micturate, but made it through to 7am this morning without undue issues. No idea what I did differently, just my old body being cranky, I guess…

wirrt (just looked up your user name and it’s German for “technically confused” so will have to think of a good Mumper name for you (other MMP’ers, any ideas?). Anyway, I’d take it easy now and suffer post-Easter, you are right that snot and sneezes and masks are not a good combination. IMHO as always.

wheelie, good effort on the trivia, maybe they’ll listen closer to you next time.

I will never understand the English fascination with Marmite; of course, considering my monomaniacal devotion to Braunschweiger sammiches, I probably don’t have any room to talk… Glad you are doing better.

Thanks for the reminder, I need to do 1-2 loads this morning.

Otherwise it’s a beautiful day here in N. Ali-bama, almost no chance of rain, clear skies and temperatures reaching 77F. Will have to get out and do something (besides laundry) and we’ll have to see how it goes.

Have a good 2sDay all.

“Fach” in this case refers to the Fach system, which is used in German opera houses (and generally throughout the world now) to match voices to roles. A somewhat more specific typing than bass, baritone, tenor, etc., taking into account things like most comfortable range and vocal weight and timbre.

I spent many years flipping back and forth between various baritone and tenor Fächer, hence the confusion. Mostly settled now (tenor), although some ensembles still insist on putting me in the baritone section. Also doesn’t matter as much, since my international opera career never really materialized.

Fascinating; thanks for the information.

So it seems the proper Mumper name is bariten! You’re welcome!

Mornin’ all - 'Tis the crack of 9am as I begin to blather. NWS says partly cloudy now with scattered rain showers later. Presently 71/22 on the way to 83/28. Looking outside there’s widespread high cloudiness with the sun showing through sorta. Pre-dawn the crescent Moon was very pretty in gauzy soft-focus; the clouds are definitely on the way in, not out.

Last night was a great date, but that was all; she had early morning activities today. I sorta did/do too. But we’ve got overnights set up for Wed & Sat, so it won’t be too long.

The high point of the evening was encountering a gaggle of 9 (!) giggling spring breaker chicks. Fun to chat with and feel their chaotic energy. No matching boys in sight. Color me confused about that part. Then we scandalized the crap outta them by making out on the couch at the back of the bar. Ewww, old people kissing! So gross!

Got up early today, unpacked and de-wrinkled what I did not wear, washed what I did, got sheveled, and am now out at breakfast while the housecleaners should be there doing their thing. After breakfast it’s time to visit the dermo for an excision on my right bicep area. It’s a teeny spot, just a couple of stitches worth, but by the time they get done bandaging, it’ll look like a miracle they were able to save the arm from amputation. And it’s gotta stay there and stay dry for 48 hours. Which might not happen quite to their liking considering Wed night’s expected activities a mere 30-ish hours from now.

I have to say that traveling solo has lost a lot of its charm. I’ve also noticed that I pretty much live the resort life every day here at home. It’s fun to see different locales, but I can do an awful lot of Caribbean-equivalent touristy stuff right here w/o the effort or expense of travel.

Enough drivel about my calm boring obligation-free RDOS existence.

If you’re not already taking tamsulosin = Flomax, you’re doing it wrong. Big improvement, nil cost. Assuming the issue is BPH squeezing your bladder; which most men of a certain age are dealing with. Ask your doctor if it’s right for you.

Sorry FCM: no advice for you on that score.

ETA: Just ninja’ed by FCM above, but I prefer my work to hers. I suspect @fachverwirrt will prefer hers to mine. …

Well, the proper MMP name just became obvious: Pavarotti, or Pavo for short. Pava would be closer, but that reads as feminine in Italian, so Pavo is a better choice; SDMB frowns on misgendering.

The fact that in Spanish “pavo” means turkey fits the career that didn’t quite take flight.

Good morning, all!

I had a long visit with almost no one at the store at the mall. I took some polymer clay to play with, but didn’t like the end result of what I made, so I scrapped it. Part of the problem was that I was sitting in my office chair that I brought from home and the countertop was raised, so I had to lift my arms up very high to work. Yes, I know I could have worked standing, but my knees and ankles are highly unpredictable and I didn’t want to have a problem and be stranded at the mall!

On April 5 there is a mass mobilization called Hands Off! We’re going to go to the Detroit rally/march that starts at and returns to the Detroit Institute of Arts. I’d encourage anyone who cares about what is happening in our country to check out where an event might be held in your vicinity. More info can be found at handsoffcurrentyear dot com. I need to get a posterboard and figure out a good message.

Hubs gets another revacination today so we’ll see his stem cell transplant doc as well. I’m hoping his meds will continue to get lowered. I’ve already called in a refill for one of his scrips that he had pre-transplant (for gout prevention).

doggio’s women’s team annihilated my Spartan women 84-49.

I saw it on Threads.

Yay for colleague being able to return to work.
Does this mean potato skins? Otherwise, wtheck are jacket potatoes?

And a second thank for the reminder. I did blankets yesterday but need to get sheets in the washing machine.

What Americans call “baked potatoes”.

IOW potatoes cooked and served with intact skins = jackets.

Ninja’d on the jacket potatoes - you snooze, you lose! :stuck_out_tongue:

Just spent about an hour cleaning the bed in front of the shop, including pruning the butterfly bushes, cutting off several tree seedlings, and general rakeage. I took 2 loads of debris into the woods where I had to stop and repair a section of fence. Neighbor’s branch fell across it and boogered it up. It’s just cheap welded wire fencing, easily bent out of shape, but I managed to get it hooked back on the metal fence post. Looking farther down the fence line, there are several other places that need attention. I think the stoopit deer jumping over the fence are responsible for one long leaning section.

OK, cooling down. I’ll go out later and rake some more. Rain forecast for late afternoon, so I might get the beds around the garage cleaned up. We shall see…

Yep. I’ve got to pull my golf clubs out of the travel bag (where they’ve been since we moved, over two years ago) and get some swings in before he gets here. :person_golfing:

As my mom and I were sitting here in the living room, we hear a strange noise from outside. My mom then looks out the front window and finds my neighbor out there with a chainsaw working on my tree. What we didn’t realize at the time was that the part of the tree that he was working on had broken and blown over onto the sidewalk. This is the neighbor who has dementia or something like it after having fallen off of his roof 2-3 times. I’m glad his wife was out there with him.

So, yeah, they cleaned up all the mess just for fun, literally. And I tripped and almost fell on my face coming back in the front door. Thank goodness that didn’t happen. Then my poor little girl had the snorting fest to end all snorting tests. She’s just sitting on my lap now. Fortunately there’s only two more days until surgery.

The fog is lifting, and it’s supposed to get up to 70º today and tomorrow. WUT? Whence this semi-tropical weather? Thursday, it’s back to rain and cool temps. Very disconcerting, like a Wagnerian opera company suddenly interjecting, “Da-a-a-ay-o! Daylight comes, and I want to go home!”

A friend is coming over this afternoon.

This made me chuckle. I do love those weather reports!

Well said, and very accurate!

Thank you. I’ve signed up. For those who might be interested, don’t make the same mistake I did, which was to type “handsoffcurrentyear.com” into the search box. Not that you’d be that foolish!

Shortish day, but still got pulled up to the Table for a bit. And they had stuck Shaggy up there for some reason, so I got to scream at him. In any case, I did my laundry this weekend, the lawn service just leafblowered the Great(?) Outdoors, and I have to attend fewer meetings than a RDOS, so naptime!

[Arthur Dent]Is there any tea?[/Arthur Dent]

They should give him a desk, and maybe a file cabinet, too.

Well right now it is the yeast of her problems.

WOLF!

I sang a song about bread at a Madrid talent contest. My act got pan-ned.

Break time again. I raked up and dumped 8 gorilla carts full of leaves - some dry, some compact and wet. But both beds along the garage wall are cleared, mostly. I’ve got a little more to do when I rest my back.

FCD is home, and he helped me get rid of a couple of small trees near his shop. He almost fell down the hill trying to yank one out by its roots. My nippers took care of that in the end.

So a little more labor, then I can chill. I’m thinking we should go out for supper tonight.

Ursala Kitteh was brave at the V. E. T. She got a mani pedi and her arthuritis shot. Niw she’s trying to tip over her water bowl.

I was asked to confirm a business had a lien on it. The only way I have to do that is to pull a Business Profile Report… but the requestor had already done that. I tried going to the L.A. County website, but there’s no searchable database. So I tried calling and got the wrong desk. I was transferred and was immediately disconnected. So I tried again. This time when I was transferred, the guy couldn’t hear me. Try two or three more times. I finally got to a person who could help me. She confirmed that the lien is still outstanding. I let the appropriate people know, and the one who asked for confirmation said I rock.

Mrs. L.A. asked me to put the Ukrainian flag up. I texted her back, ‘Aw, I was going to surprise you! :ukraine: :ukraine: :ukraine:

Got the dishes washing, and it’s almost time for my lunch break.
