(Old) Gunpowder, Treason and Plot in the MMP

It’s Saturday night. SenBoy is out with his futsal friends and not back yet. SenGirl had a fundrasing event at school today. SenWife is gone on another business trip.

SenBoy’s futsal team needed to have some of them qualify as referees. In a nearby league, they have to supply some referees sometimes and need to be qualified. He was so proud! They would be the junior member of course, but he said it’s his dream to give a red card to someone!

It’s snowed briefly a few times. I need to get my butt in gear and change the snow tires.

Baker, I’m not from Ohio, but I was in Cincinnati a while back, and I happened upon goetta in a moment of serendipity. We had dinner at the Heidelberg Haus. I remembered seeing a TV chef saying, “If you’re ever in Heidelberg, order the (German word for an array of sausages.)” So, I told the waiter that, and he had the kitchen put together something like that. He also told us the name of a butcher shop in Cinci that was a great place to buy sausages. We went there the next day, and we bought mettwurst, goetta, bratwurst, and other things I’ve forgotten the names of. We drove back to Indiana with the car bathed in the aroma of spiced meats.

Flyboy, I’m sorry to hear you got pink-slipped. (My computer doesn’t recognize that phrase. It’s about firing, not lingerie.) That’s rotten.

Johnny_L.A., I’m very sorry your company didn’t realize your worth and made such a dumb decision as to lay you off.

Mr. brown, in his last months before retiring, said that things were coming to a head with a technical issue. I don’t have enough techie knowledge to understand or describe it, but some huge expensive program could not communicate effectively with some other huge expensive program, and only careful fiddling by someone in the know could make the systems play nice. Mr. brown could do it, because he had seven years of experience of finessing the two programs. When he was ready to retire, he said that it was getting to be too big of a burden and no one else could understand how to do it. So he was relieved to be shot of that, at any rate.

I hope you find something suitable and a lot closer to home asap.

Good morning.

It’s 37°F and foggy outside. The day will start mostly cloudy, but by afternoon, it should only be partly cloudy with a high of 57°F. However, I’m not really sure I believe that since yesterday was supposed to be relatively dry, but in reality, it poured down rain for most of the day.

Oopsie, what a frustrating occurrence! I hope the dealership can get you back on the road and the rest of your trip proceeds smoothly.

Johnny, again, I’m so sorry about the layoff notice. I hope you find something closer to home that brings you less frustration. I know you’ve been frustrated for a while, first with the hourly vs. salary issue and then with all the IT problems.

Nellie, my fuschias are still blooming too. Additionally, my bananas and cream daisy decided to flower again. It’s usually done blooming by the end of August or maybe slightly later. So weird.

We’re supposed to pick up the e-bikes today. I’m both excited and slightly trepidatious. The reason I’m nervous is that we’ll be trying to strap on bikes on a downtown street. It shouldn’t be difficult, but I like to practice things where I don’t feel rushed, and I will be there. There won’t be time for an inaugural ride, so we’ll probably do that tomorrow. It’s supposed to be dry tomorrow, so that’ll be better anyway. Anyway, I’ll be glad to have them home.

We’ll probably drop by somewhere else to pick up bike helmets so we’re ready to go tomorrow.

That’s about it for my little corner of the world. You all take care.

Good morning all. First day in a long time I am not already at the soccer fields waiting to start a full morning and afternoon of coaching and refereeing. Will have to figure out something else to do with my time (sitting here talking with you will be one thing for certain). Got a little rain overnight but dry today and heading to 72F, so the predicted cold drop hasn’t hit us yet.

Pavo, glad the performance went well, even with slippery-fingered listeners.

nellie , I hope your Wyoming friend can help you out.

Well, I’m sure she can spare it and he certainly could use it…

boo fae, hope the new hair style grows on you (unintentional funny, but those are the best kind IMHO). Need to get my hair cut, but I have so little left up there I almost hate going to the barber shop.

As do I.

Sensei, that’s not the best attitude for a referee to have, but perfectly natural for a teenage boy. I suspect once he gets out there and finds he is responsible for the game and has all these adults watching him, his hubris will settle down considerably. Hope he does follow through, I’ve refereed soccer (and a little futsal) for 40 years and enjoy almost all of it.

Taters, hope the bike transfer goes smoothly, I’m sure the shop owners have faced this issue before and can offer help/advice. Enjoy the first ride.

And have broken fast and am ready to face the day…and will probably face it by sitting at the computer for a couple more hours. Take care all.

We took BIL to an empty school parking lot to learn his ebike. He did fine, then parked it in his apartment and never rode it again. Odd fellow, that one…

I finally remembered to vacuum Ziva’s side of our bedroom. There were bits of kibbles and a lot of hair - it’s all been sucked up. Otis doesn’t like the rollsuck - he barks and attacks it. Higgs just ignored it, as did Taz. Ziva hides under the bed as usual. Animals be weird.

I messaged Daughter, asking her to send the kids here in grubbies and include their party clothes in case they wear their lunch. We shall see how that goes.

And now, the ice maker needs cleaning. Off I go!!!

Oh, I’m not nervous about riding it, but I am about getting these things strapped down in the bike rack. It doesn’t look hard, but I still like to practice first. Everything locks down on this particular rack, and there are some fiddly bits. I’m hopeful the bike mechanic will help us get on our way.

I can ride the bike just fine. It takes a second to get used to the boost; if you’re not ready for the little burst of speed, it can be a little startling, but I know what to expect.

Getting rid of you early so you don’t hit twenty and qualify for a pension?

When the store closed, my severance pay was included in my final cheque.

Want to tell us what company you work(ed) for, so we can make sure we never say anything good about them in public?

This should work (streaming bar is either at the bottom or to of the page depending on if you’re on mobile or desktop). Program begins at 7:30CST.

If that doesn’t work (or you’re busy tonight), they post the broadcast on the symphony page for thirty days or so starting a few days after the concert. I’ll post that link when it’s live.

War Requiem broadcast

Short like day, I was out by 0930. One of the things in the overgoods/lost in found was a *Breaking Bad" costume being sent to Minnesota. It looked like it had been wrapped by someone smoking blue meth. Used FedEx bad, sealed with duct tape, return label was printed on a sheet of paper(fair enough) and tape to the bad with a samll piece of tape on the top and bottom of the page. At least part of the tracking number wasn’t ripped off, so when someone files a claim, they’ll get their stuff. But laundry is in the dryer, bacon, eggs, and gin&tonic are in me, so time for the pre hockey nap.

Yes.

Spot likes to lick ice cubes

Thanks

32F this morning and it isn’t going to get more than a degree warmer than that today. Mixed up an avocado with lemon olive oil and a bit of salt. Piled it on bagel halves with a bit of tomato, and made a side of scramble for breakfast. There’s going to be a special “Veterans’ breakfast” next week that we’ll likely go to.

The wife says she’s going to do battle next week with the new building director (Cruella) over the new pet fees. MN generally sides with a “pet deposit” as being a refundable amount (minus pet damages), so for her to say it won’t be refunded would be frowned upon in a court situation. It would at least be a minor victory to get that changed. Short of obtaining a designation of needing a support animal (which I could possibly sell), we’ll end up paying this extra money grab.

I love just about all kinds of sausages. The only ones I don’t like are the really hot ones.

Even though Wikipedia also agrees that Polonaise is a Polish dance, there seem to be quite a few people in Switzerland who have a different opinion. Warning: Swiss German and Swiss music ahead: World record attempt for longest Polonaise in 2008 and New Year’s Eve Polonaise in 1994. Both videos have the same song! :open_mouth:

Hope it helps. (and now I have Bon Jovi’s Shot Through the Heart going through my head)

I have my stuffed Opus from 1984 on my desk at home. I like Opus.

:joy:

I am so sorry. And you just (well tried) paid off your house!

I’ve been to Allentown. I am very sorry you got stuck there and the circumstances that got you there.

Today was another foggy day, but the sun finally came out for about 30 minutes and disappeared again. Today was running errands - beverage market, gas station, grocery store, shoe store, clothing store, and coffee place. Between the grocery store and the shoe store we walked to town and looked at a humongous crane. The crane is moving bridge sections which weigh about 185 tons. Each.

Came back home and had chili (with kidney beans) from the freezer, cleaned the bathrooms, started laundry, and ran the dishwasher. After the dishwasher finished, we ran a cleaning cycle, so even the dishwasher is clean.

Sitting and sweating at the gym, according to the machines calculators I have burned 1,299 calories in the past couple of hours so a break is called for. May do some weights once I catch my breath or maybe just shower and call it a day. At least I could watch tackleball and British football while sweating.

More later when I return home. Take care all.

Dragging my tired ass back to work, while ignoring both of my parents. At least I have Monkey, and y’all.

I am just a ray of sunshine.

At least the weather is so lovely cool, and the trees are turning beautiful colors.

Finally got the printer working again. When the wife sends something to the printer and it doesn’t print, she keeps on sending it along with everything else on the internet. I keep telling her that stuff on the internet stays on the internet and there is no need to print it all out, but not luck yet. Also, recipes almost always have a “print recipe” button so you don’t get all the blather and photos. This time, it took probably a quarter of a ream of paper to finally clear the buffer. Cripes.

I’m thinking a cutesy way of calling him a mouse killer.

I got one of those of the state of Texas as part of a tourist package a few years back. I turned the map into interesting backgrounds for cards.

You can’t just clear the queue?

I headed out to the grocery store shortly after getting up this morning. Didn’t really need a lot, but what I needed, I needed. Now home, the bed stripped, sheets washed and in the dryer. Not a whole lot else shaking at CasaRoja.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Thank you, everyone, for the well-wishes. I’m not feeling talkative today. But I’ll share this:

My former boss is a friend. She came to my wedding. I sent her a FB message letting her know what happened. Little did I know that she has a lifetime board membership, so she can attend meetings any time she wants. She was very angry at the news. I told her not to tell anyone, since I’m not supposed to tell anyone in the company, or our members, but it sounds like she’s going to raise a stink. Go to a meeting and talk about data, and also my layoff. I asked her not to say anything, but she said, ‘How do you think our members would feel to know that our president is keeping secrets from them?’

I don’t know. Maybe I’ll be out of a job sooner than expected.

Dog school went well, once I got her inside. I had to use the handle on her harness to get her through the door, but once inside, she saw some other dogs and wanted to meet them. She’s already got all the stuff from the first class down, sit, lie down, look at me. What we need to work on is come when called and don’t chew up stuff.

Surprisingly, it is still tick season here. I found three on her this morning, just crawling on her fur, she’s on an anti-flea/tick medicine.

flyboy I totally understand the feeling of not wanting others to put their foot into the issue. When I was first hired as a temporary position the union people wanted to raise a stink about it not being permanent. I was thinking…umm I need a job. I truly hope things work out ok in the end.

If this was on a PC computer, I could do that easily. For some reason, I’ve never been able to figure out how to do it on the Mac.

Edit: just looked it up online.
