(Old) Gunpowder, Treason and Plot in the MMP

Home from the party. The venue is really cool - Keep It Simple Stables. They don’t have a web page, but they are on FB. Anyway, there are cows and horses and llamas and goats that the kids can pet, and a big play yard full of kid stuff. I think everyone had a good time. We split early, mainly because we were tired and it was a tad chilly.

My Black Knight butterfly bushes were delivered - 4 one-quart pots. I don’t know if I can get them planted tomorrow - chance of rain most of the day. Failing that, it’ll be Tuesday, since we’re promised a freeze on Moanday night. I’ll need to get a wagonload of compost - there’s a big pile in the back yard and a couple of smaller ones out front - we’ll see where I decide to dig.

I also got the dog toys that you’re supposed to cram kibbles in - Otis has been chewing up one of them - we’ll see how tough they are. I also got a big bag of training treats.

Supper tonight will be whatevs. We’re both too tahred to much care.

Howdy Y’all! I have been back in da cave for a little over an hour. I left around 11:30 and it was rainy. The rain was on and off until almost time to exit I16 and ride through the countryside. So home, unpacked and been “welcomed “ home. My DAWGS won, so yay! I feel the need for an adult beverage and trash teevee. An early bedtime is foreseen as I’s tahrd and have verger duty tomorrow.

When Nelson went through his puppyhood chewing phase, Kong toys proved to be indestructible. Eight and a half years in and he still has most of them.

I’ve had the ambition of a three toed sloth this afternoon. It was quite the effort to even put the bedding back on the bed so’s I’d have clean sheets tonight. I’m still not at :100: yet. I’m tired of this whatever-the-hell-bug I’ve been dealing with the past week.

I think dog school wore Ms Peach out. Lots of braining. We dog parked later in the day, but she said it was time to go home after 20 minutes. She’s now been napping on the couch for a couple of hours.

Shhhheeewwwwww!!! What a game for my Ducks! They won, but it was a nail biter down to the last play. Iowa played well, but I’m glad they didn’t play a little better. And big kudos to Atticus Sappington, who kicked the winning field goal. (Even with a name like that!)

oopsie, what a rotten start to your vacation. I’ll echo what dicey said: I’ve been to Allentown, too, and I’m sorry if you’re stuck there. I hope the fix is less hassle and less costly than you’re concerned it might be, and I hope you’re well on your way to New Jersey now and happier times ahead.

I’ll keep an eye out for it. I love science fiction.

Nellie and taters, I have a silly rhododendron blooming just now. Crazy.

cookie, I hope you and your wife win the pet fees war. I get the deposit part, but like you, not the non-refundable part. If you have a good pet and it doesn’t do any damage, then that’s just completely unfair for them to make it non-refundable.

Hang in there, shoe. And good for you for finding at least one thing to enjoy in a challenging time!

Welcome home, swampy. I’m glad you were welcomed in a welcome way, and congrats to your Dawgs! (You’re welcome.)

Wow, I envy you. Ollie destroys Kong toys, and I mean the super tough ones. I spend a small fortune on those things. He has a variety of the black ones and I replace them about every 3 months. To his credit, he doesn’t destroy doors.

I spent my day cooking ahead. I made a bunch of grab ‘n go burritos that I’m currently jonesing for all the time, more bread to take to my friends’ place tomorrow and banana bread for the freezer in case of drop-in company or I need a quick hostess gift.

Tomorrow will be another mellow Sunday spent in the company of my pals, to give Ollie a good romp in a fenced space and for my friends and I to share a bottle of wine while we solve the world’s problems over either clam chowder or corned beef and cabbage, whichever they feel like making. I’m fine with either.

Ollie got another medicated bath today. I think we can dial it back to every 2 days instead of every other day. I hope so. We both dislike the 10-minute marinating period. I found out that a bathing session takes up exactly the same amount of time as a football half-time interval! So that worked out, anyway.

My best to everyone, and catch you all sometime tomorrow!

Welcome home Swampy! I’m glad you arrived safe

We are looking forward to getting rain here and maybe even some snow, but it was so nice today that I think they were making things up.

I’ve been baking cookies today so I can put some in the box with the old will that I will be mailing to Mom on Monday. I’m doing double batches of everything so I have enough to take to the old farts home while I’m out.

and the timer just wen toff again.

Up from naptime, having a Vieux Carré, and Asian BBQ stirfry. Watching the Canes game.

I always wanted a Bill the Cat doll.

Jesus had a customer service job and he ended up smashing tables and chasing people with a whip. You’re good.

I’m getting Office Space vibes off of this.

The Badger are up by 3 with 5min left, The Team of Rational Hatred(UNC) looks like it’s gonna win, and the Team of Irrational Hatred(Incarnate Word) already won. The Huskers are up at 9.

I would buy stocks from this man.

Sounds like it was worth it.

Former boss was even more urinated than Mrs. L.A.

Evening all; not sure if this will be my late night final or not, we’ll see how long I can resist the Sandman tonight. Snacking on some carrots again because healthy. Outside of fixing my big bowl of pasta have minimized movement since coming home and will continue to do so. Have calculated the probable calories from visiting the Golden Corral tomorrow, and probably will be back in the gym after visiting there.

Noted something at the Kroger self-serve checkouts; they have stopped giving out pennies, rounding up or down depending on the amount on the check. Not sure if this is a new policy (and I just googled it, apparently there is a penny shortage due to the US Government stopping new production of them, so there is some logic there). Anyone else encounter this on your shopping trips?

And see what else you folks have been up too…

FCM, glad the kids had a good time (heck, if there are horses and cows and llamas to pet I would have a good time!).

doggio, my brother had basset hounds that would stand by the refrigerator when anyone went to get ice hoping to grab and crunch a cube. Like FCM said, animals be weird…and speaking of which, just google Bill the Cats doll for sale and you’ll be impressed with the results…

Cookie, wishing your wife good luck in her crusade against the pet fees, at least get them as refundables. And good luck to you in getting wife to print correctly..

{{shoe}}, and we’ll always be here (well, I should be good for another 10-12 years at least…)

Flyboy, hope old boss will get over their initial mad and realize discretion is the better part at this time…there is always time to yell at them later…

VanGo, glad the lesson went well, hopefully it will carry over to the chewing and the coming.

Welcome home swampy! I trust OYKW cleaned up the house sufficiently after the Orgy…

Bright Tree, I have a couple paperbacks with his stories, PM me if you’d like me to mail one to you. Enjoy the Sunday mellow.

And that’s all for now. Need to make sure I am caught up on my You Tubing and do some reading before turning in. Catch y’all on Sunday.

I rarely use cash, so I haven’t experienced it. Most folks who do will likely come out pretty close to even.

Welcome home, swampy!

Hope that your night is not too rough on you shoe.

Technically, the employee handbook doesn’t specifically disallow such behavior …

I’ll check with management (while sharing the joke).

Oh, and in much happier news …. IT’S SNOWING!!! :snowflake:

Not a blizzard or lake effect (if it was raining this would be a mild drizzle) but still!!! Someone mentioned it and I fuckin’ RAN outside to see for m’self.

Last year I saw the BBC interview a guy who was proud of his bonfire. He was drinking a Budweiser Tallboy (16 oz) and had lots of nothing good to say about the Irish (ROI) or Catholics.

None of it really historically true, yet that’s how it’s evolved. The man of Ulster with his Budweiser and fire.

Just think, if you still lived in Texas, you could have had a sunny 84F day today. Better you than me with the snow.

Have you ever noticed that when we humans get older, some quality becomes a lot more pronounced? A mildly anxious person gets anxiety attacks. An irritable person is chronically irate. That sort of thing. Today was interrupted by a long call from my sister-in-law–you know, my …um, uh , well, difficult SIL. The older she gets, the more sharp-tongued, intolerant, and cranky she becomes–not toward me, just about everything and everyone else, practically.

My plants are inside and ensconced on the lowboy. (I cover it with clear, rigid plastic first.) My fuchsia–I can only recall how to spell that word if I mentally pronounce it like the h is a k–will, of course, stay outside. One of them is blooming except for a single stalk that seems to be doing its Olivier Rioux impression and is now 39" tall with no indication it intends to droop gracefully, as fuchsia are supposed to do.

flyboy, that particular nondisclosure agreement strikes me as hinky. I think it’s illegal to prohibit an employee from voluntarily discussing their employment status with a board member–your colleagues, maybe, but not a board member. I doubt your current boss would fire you sooner if she gets an earful from the board. In fact, she probably wouldn’t dare, though I wouldn’t bet she’d save you a seat at the office Christmas party.

VanGo, what a great first day at dog school! She’s obviously a very smart pup.

I had to look those up. They’re gorgeous!

All that Eucharistin’ and prayin’ wears a bear out. By tomorrow afternoon, you’ll be so godly, you’ll have to have TWO adult beverages so you don’t blind OYKW with your halo.

Oh, ugh. I was hoping you’d be about back to normal by now. Enjoy the fresh, clean sheets!

Wow, that’s amazing! Very ambitious of her!

What do you do with him while he’s marinating? Ten minutes is a long time to stand around talking about the weather. (I’d think…if I were a dog…)

Have calculated the probable calories from visiting the Golden Corral tomorrow, and probably will be back in the gym after visiting there.
[/quote]

Do you take off one day a week? I don’t mean just from the gym; I mean from vigorous physical activity. Overtraining is bad for you, as of course you know (which somehow doesn’t keep me from saying it).

Yep. The last two times at the grocery store, there were signs up. I got 75¢ back instead of 76¢. I didn’t know the government has stopped production of them. Thanks for the info.

What?! SNOW? Already? The climate is so confused.

Since September 2024 we’re not allowed to buy them as they are an alien invasive species. Some people got confused and thought that lilacs were banned, as butterfly bushes are also known as summer lilacs. Pretty color.

Enjoy it! On Friday they closed the main mountain pass for the winter, so it’s officially winter season, but we don’t have a whole lot of precipitation. And the weather’s being weird. Since we’re below the clouds, it’s foggy and cool. Above the clouds it’s actually warmer than the lower elevations.

Today we need to pack as we’re going to a concert tonight and staying at a nearby hotel. Tomorrow we’re going shopping in the big city (Zurich) and maybe we’ll see the sun.

SenBoy is sick. The flu is fluing around but the doctor says it’s too early to test for it so we see if he develops a worse fever.

SenGirl is teaching herself how to cook French food buy using the Julia Child classic. It’s not bad at all, but damn she can get touchy while she’s cooking.

SenWife is off somewhere else. I’m keeping track of too many things at home so I don’t think too much about where she is. The only I worry about is making sure the house looks good the day before she comes back.

I went down to do a change of address for our minivan and discovered I didn’t have a particular piece of paper showing our new address. I was carrying two forms of government issued ID which have the change, but it’s not good enough. It’s an hour each way so that gives me something to do Thursday, not that I needed anything more.

< dogbutler grumbles, re-tapes dawn, returns to shipper >
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. The usual morning cleaning, and afternoon sloth. Plus the day is packed with sports(handegg, hockey, F1).

Happier?
But enjoy it.

So basically the Temu version of Ian Paisley.

Sensei, hope Senboy feels better, Sengirl stops going full chef on you, and you successfully fight the bureaucracy. And maybe find your wife.

Good Morning Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 65 Amurrkin out and partly cloudy with a predicted high of 78 and mostly cloudy. A big weather change is comin’ however. The overnight low will be 32 Amurrkin. The big item on today’s agenda is deheathenization in which I have verger duty. We will get stoner food for lunch. The rest of the day will be for nappage and high RDOS inactivities.

I have read all and promise to give appropriate responses later today.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then purtification for deheathenization must commence.

Happy Sunday Y’all!

Since I use plastic almost exclusively, nope. What I have noticed, tho, is that several places are doing away with self-checkout. First place I noticed it was Dollar General. Then the older Aldi blocked off half of them and added a security gate to the entrance. And the new Aldi didn’t even include any. So thievery has obviously affected the much-hated self-checkouts. Food Lion has them but there’s also an employee hovering around the registers (which is actually nice when you’ve got a question/problem. WalMart has completely changed their checkout area to mostly self serve, but they also have a rather large honesty patrol hovering about. But, no, I have’t noticed any penny issues.

Which is why I got 4 of 'em! That, and the unit price was appreciably less if you took their four-fer deal. Plus I have a big hunk o’garden that needs to be filled. These will do nicely!

I seem to recall reading that it costs 2¢ to produce a penny. Can’t attest to the veracity of whatever source it was.

What’s the alternative?

It did rain overnight and into this morning, but we might see sun this afternoon before rain returns. I’ll try to get the plants in during that break. Moanday night, they’re threatening a possible freeze - I should probably find some covers for the new plants then. Dammit.

FCD has said he’ll need my help for a bit as work on the swim platform continues. And I bought a sack o’Yukon gold spuds, so they’ll likely be souped for supper. That’s pretty much all I’ve planned. We shall see how it goes.

Happy Sunday!!

Rain turning into snow supposedly.
Just church today.
