(Old) Gunpowder, Treason and Plot in the MMP

It seemed inordinately chaotic today.. The Blueberries in the Sort Aisle were sending anything that didn’t scan to the 200 Slide, which was overflowing, and the Sort Table Blueberries were not looking to see if the things they were chunking into the cages were missorts or not(I pulled 5 300 Boxline pacakges out of mine). Also the RFID mind control dome was randomly beeping, which set my nerves on edge. As far as the aftermath, TIL that Sephora stores buy gallon jugs of makeup remover. Who in the name of Tammy Fae Baker needs a gallon jug of makeup remover(which is glass cleaner blue, so maybe bring your own if you go to Sephora). Also, I had a 2pack of steel signposts that were bent. Either someone ran over t(with an eighteen wheeler?), or since it was Chinese, made from leftover steel from The Great Leap Forward. And Peak Season hasn’t started yet. In any case, I stopped and bought a couple of new pillows from Tar-Jay on the way home from work.

What is the fine for being a massive twatwaffle?

Yay!

As is the rest of my Silent Night Christmas order.(processed at 0629 at my Center).

Glad it was a good time, even if fungus free.

Well, I’m sure Nelson’s tired of yelling at you and spraying you with a spray bottle every time you climbed up on the counter anyways.

Evening.

You may be pleased to know that, despite multiple threats to redeliver them to me, the assorted junk has been finally delivered to its chaotic owner. Apparently they also attempted to deliver some other random large bags that were not his, and it came on two different delivery vehicles both of which denied the existence of the other.

FedEx, for when you need something delivered somewhere, but you don’t care where or when.

I am also confused today, and somewhat suspicious; I was attempting something in the lab (along with the very very nice person who’s basically saved the project at this point).

It has not been going well, and this the last big shot to get enough samples to work with, using her adapted protocol. I had 12 samples which needed extracting by the new protocol; of one sample I had an OK version already (not great, so worth another shot, but probably usable), of 3 samples this was not the final one- I still have a backup left to try- but of the final 8 this was it, the end. Previous attempts failed. The last ditch attempt.

Of the 12 extractions, 10 worked.

And… the two that didn’t (probably, there’s a final last-ditch rescue attempt I can try tomorrow, but I don’t have my hopes up) were… the one I already had an OK version of and one I still have a spare sample from.

Huh?

It’s not like the lab gremlins to taunt like that and stop halfway.. Like.. what are the odds that both failed samples were of the 4 that would Not Be a Disaster? That never happens. Everyone else was confused as well. It’s always the one that you can’t replace that goes wrong.

FedEx apparently said something to my delivery person - today’s box was on the porch! Unfortunately, one of the pieces inside was slightly cracked - plastic, and it doesn’t affect its utility so I’m not fretting. However, the outer box was fine, so I’m wondering if the seller inadvertently (or on purpose) sent it out as was. But really, not a problem, and it works like a champ - holding cleaning supplies and spares of shampoo and body wash and terlit paper. So there’s that.

Just back from walking Otis, and I met a neighbor who was out leaf-blowing his yard. His nickname is Chick, which will be easy to remember because it’s my mom’s nickname and was MIL’s nick also. We chatted a bit - he’s a pleasant guy and he knows now where we live, should he see Otis on the loose.

I’ve started setting up the irrigation for the landscaping. My old sprinklers are crap - glad I’ve got new ones coming on Thursday. I think tomorrow I’ll get out there and do some planting. I’m kinda done for today. FCD is planing some of the teak boards. I need to figure out what supper will be. Maybe something chicken-related.

Johnny L.A. is still fighting technology.

You’ll remember that my employer moved everything to the cloud, causing me to rename the paths in my programs. You’ll recall that they shut down VPN whilst I was on vacation, so I could not connect to my Dell desktop so that I could run my programs. Last week I spend a very long time on the phone with IT, so that they could get access to the Dell. (I was able to get some work done on the Lenovo laptop.) Finally, Friday, I was able to connect to the Dell and run my programs. There was only two little problems. I didn’t have any databases in Access; and I kept getting a popup saying something couldn’t something whenever I tried to save or export a file. They were going to fix that yesterday. Since they’re minor annoyances, they put it off until this morning. I clock in at six, so I was able to get some irk done. IT called and ‘fixed’ the issues… resulting in four hours of fiddling around with neither of us able to connect to the Dell. Where we stand now is that I can connect to the Dell. Easytrieve works… although I had to undo the path names the other guy made me change last week. I’m still getting the popups.

Anyway, I clocked out for lunch, and then clocked in five minutes later when IT called back. Now I’m off the clock. Nice day out, but I’m not getting out for a walk. I’ll try after I clock out for the day. (And I’m going to see Joe the PA Thursday after irk to get that knee injection after all. I wonder if/how that will affect Date Night.)

…. aaaaaaand that’s enough being outside

Afternoon all. Spent some extra time at the gym to make up for yesterday, weight is at 199.8lbs, just about my goal for the year, I’ve been as low as 195lbs and up to 208lbs this year, but usually right around the 200lb mark. With soccer ending I’ll have to find other activities to keep me busy or else cut down on the snacking–tough choice. Nice day today but with the sun already low in the sky it’ll be cool when I go forth to referee a 7:00pm game. Looking at the weather forecast, will probably perform my last (I hope) mowage tomorrow as rain (and colder temperatures) are expected for the weekend.

Cookie, probably best not to discuss it, my brother is very conservative and we have a silent agreement not to discuss politics because we wouldn’t agree.

Nut, hooray for the delivery. And don’t look at a gift science project too hard, or you could change your luck…

FCM, glad the FedEx folks got their act together; now if them remember it the next time you have to get something via them.

Flyboy, borrowing a little from John Mellencamp, your in a :musical_notes:“I Fight Technology, Technology always wins.” :musical_notes: situation. Hope something finally goes right.

shoe, thanks for the Monkey pics. They’re excellent.

And need to get a little pre-game meal together, won’t be back until after 8:30pm and that’s a bit late. Take care all.

Well she’s 45 pounds of stubborn wiggle, so probably problematic (band name). And I just got serenaded by dog with squeaky ball ending in “fart!”

I was thinking of this song.

Good evening. It’s been a long day. I had an IEP meeting where I just almost started crying. The parent did not show up for the meeting. The admin had me text the parent. No answer. Then she had me call the parent. I totally woke this woman up. When she joined the meeting she actually had her video on and was making the most horrible face. I was truly expecting her to start yelling at me any moment. Fortunately she didn’t. It was just the anticipation that got me.

It was also the anticipation of my doctor visit. He gave me a different sleeping pill to try. He also is referring me to a neuropsychiatrist regarding my memory issues and such because he said it might not necessarily be completely related to sleep.

After that I came back home and got to work again. I’m trying to stay ahead on the IEPs…

I’ve been achy and cold all day. I’m just now getting warmed up and less achy after about a half hour’s nap. I’m hoping to feel better tomorrow.

Howdy Y’all! We got shorn and voted all within forty-five minutes. I was voter number sixty and OYKW was number sixty-one. I decided on one pair of slacks and two nice button up shirts to take with me. Khakis for the win! I will change underwear and socks each day. One should not wear either two days in a row. The soft black leather shoes will be worn Thursday, Firday and Sattidy. Yes, only one pair of shoes. I am playin’ fast and loose with my gay cred in outfit and shoes choices. I am fine with that as I mostly identify as a grumpy old man these days. The rest of the day was spent in RDOS inactivities, though I did make some cheddar bay bizkits to go with tonight’s leftover sup.

JtC I told OYKW to put clean sheets on the bed before I get home and to make sure everyone leaves with their own underwear.

No souvenirs?? dang

We went to a sushi/sashimi/hibachi place in Charlotte Hall. We’d been there years ago and since I didn’t have any dinner inspiration, I suggested we try it. Dunno why we haven’t continued going there - it’s quite good! I got tuna roll and Boston roll (like California roll, but shrimp instead of fake crab.) FCD got the spicy roll combo. He said it wasn’t spicy. I tried a bite. It was spicy. At least to me. Anyway, good, if slightly pricey - just over $50, and we both drank tea, so no bar tab.

As we were leaving, I saw on the news that a UPS plane went down in Louisville shortly after takeoff. The video from a distance showed lots of red - I’m guessing fire. :worried: Three crew aboard - not good.

I saw Brian the stray cat this evening, so it wasn’t him who got hit by a car. But some other poor kitty. Brian seems to be hanging out under the back porch, at least that’s where Ms Peach thinks something really interesting is. Porch is too low for Peach to get under.

My two dogs ago, Tango, went and hid there during a thunderstorm and I couldn’t find her for an hour. I had to do some excavation to get her out.

Up from naptime. Having a Manhattan and Redneck Stir fry, and watching hockey.
And in sad Brown news, one of our planes caught fire and exploded on takeoff in Louisville. :frowning:

Cat, cat, and cat.

{{{{sticky}}}}

Feel better, red.

Was it spicy, or White People Spicy?

Yay for Brian, but still poor other kitty.

You should teach Ms. Peach to clink a couple of Coke bottles together in her mouth.
Kitty cat, come out to plaaaayyyyy…

Yay for Brian, but poor other kitteh.

After 10pm and time for the late-night final. My last referee jobs of the Fall season was a doozy, the girl’s U10 championship ended in a scoreless tie and after overtime, we had to go to penalty kicks to decide it, a pretty tough burden on 9 year old girls, but they handled it with poise and skill and one team finally won 3-2 on the kicks. So didn’t get home until after 9pm again and sleep will be welcome here not long after I finish this missive. Pretty comfortable, temperature stayed just above 50F so did have to add to many layers of clothing. Have had pudding and pie for a late night snack so belly is happy with me.

Sticky Buns, hang in there, but this job is sounding more and more like something you need while finding an alternative position.

swampy, you are showing taste along with practicality in your wardrobe, nothing wrong with that.

VanGo, glad Bryan is still around.

And that’s all for tonight, catch up with y’all on Hump Day.

Oof. Tired. Full day of teaching, then conductor rehearsal (most rehearsals are run by the chorus director, but the final piano rehearsal is run by whoever is actually conducting the concert).

Now I’m up too late. I have to be up earlyish to coach some kids at a local high school for all-state auditions this weekend. And then deal with my stolen tags.

And with that I’m off to bed.

Up,caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s a balmy 41 degrees Ferret height(5.0 Centipedes), with a fire danger warning.

Do you do it with musicians or taped music, or are you alone, and it looks like that meme: She danced as if no one was watching. But they were, and it looked like she was being attacked by bees.

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 15c/58f with a predicted high of 16c/61f and cloudy. Weather app says “It could be fucking warmer outside, but you could also have more fucking slugs in your shower. Count your fucking blessings.”

The van was back last night, along with another one of the same make/model. Someone else was parked outside my house so the two vans pavement-parked directly opposite. I think they must belong to someone further down the street where there isn’t space for them. If they block me again, I’ll be reporting it and asking the police to escalate whatever action they’re taking. Particularly if they’re left over a weekend.

Maybe they value their privacy and anonymity, and don’t want people publicly thanking them for their service if they find that uncomfortable or embarrassing.

{{{{{Sticky Buns}}}}}

I hope tomorrow is a better and less achy day!

It does sound rather subdued and understated for you - where’s the gold lamé and the sparkly hotpants? Or are they now just for OYKW’s benefit?

Yay for Brian, still sad for the other kitty though.

Nothing exciting here today. I have already spoken to my pub friends and have agreed that we won’t be going out tonight as two of us still have a lingering cough, and one of us has the start of the lurgy so we are staying at home and keeping warm. Probably for the best as it’s Guy Fawke’s Night so I am expecting lots more fireworks, and would prefer to be at home to comfort scared kitties.

Back on campus today, public transport was messy this morning and I was later than usual getting to the office. I am teaching myself not to care.
