(Old) Gunpowder, Treason and Plot in the MMP

Sorry for the multiple, I kept getting errors.
Enjoy!

I took my voluminous notes, turned them into questions with stats, and called SHIBA for the Part D imbroglio. Then I called the local SHIBA. I was on hold for 20 minutes, then cut off. I called back and was able to leave a VM. It may be days or weeks before someone calls me back, as they’re slammed. I asked the senior center receptionist if I could come in to make an appointment. Nope. These folks volunteer out of their homes and set up their own appointments. I think I’m going to have to take another route, as I only have a few weeks.

My glutes are less cranky, so I think the shot helped there. The back is the same, but I’ll be patient. I’m supposed to be seen in 3 weeks, but the earliest appointment (made weeks ago) is 1/29. Pain doc said to call if the shot doesn’t work, but I think I’ll wait until after the MRI. How can anyone develop a treatment plan if the last MRI was several years ago and pre-op?

That sounds…dangerous.

Are you trying to infect me with another earworm? Not that that’s hard.

Me as student walks in after lunch: Dang it, I have a song stuck in my head, and I don’t want it!"
Student: Which song?
Me: “Lucky.” Daft Punk.
Student: [gasps] Ms. Bly, that’s a dirty song!
Me: I knowT! That’s why I want it out of my head!
I was afraid I’d start singing along. I’ll look up the Vega song.

red, I hope you recover soonest. You have a nice sis.

I don’t have pets, but I asked management why there’s pet rent when the pets don’t take up extra space. She said it’s “an industry standard.” Translation: because we can.

That is a very stretchy cat. Is this feat performed straight from the floor? Talk about an overlord!

I miss reading about Taz.

Don’t know if I’ve said this before, but thanks for volunteering. And I think cutting back to just November elections sounds wise. My sister works elections, but tnot until she was semi-retired. Sounds like you were wise to use a local repair guy.

Lily! So glad you popped in! (And thanks to sticky for inquiring!) I hope the health issues aren’t the same old ones…although new ones would be a bummer, too. I’ll just wish you and your lovely wife well.

Darn! I should’ve read this sooner! I was making nachos long before they became popular. That’s not a brag, as they weren’t very authentic. I can’t recall where I got the recipe, probably some 1950s Betty Crocker cookbook or something. That’s where I got my guacamole recipe, which, while very basic (avocados, onion, tomato, salt, lemon juice), actually was a big hit at parties, probably because guac wasn’t too popular in the US yet. My favorite, authentic Mexican restaurant didn’t have it on the menu yet.

You mean the one he’s planning for your return, right? Oops! That was supposed to be a surprise party! Act shocked when you walk in the door, OK?

I thought the Polonaise was an old, stately dance formation from the 17th or 18th centuries. No? Or do they do a Conga line to Latin music and just call it a Polonaise? Clearly I have much to learn, such as how nachos got their name. Very interesting!

Oh, it was at every wedding I attended as a young’un. We all thought it was hysterical at my eldest sister’s wedding when her sister-in-law led the bunny hop to the door of the men’s restroom.

Whoa: it got very blustery outside and then WHOOSH! Another cloudburst. Very exciting.

FCM, sounds like a wonderful cruise. I haven’t been to SD in 10 years, but for all it’s changed, it’s sure to have that same balmy weather that I found so lovely.

Do they also want you to forgo the Handmaid’s Tale costume? I can’t see that happening, either.

Better shred than bed, I guess.

Yup. It got blustery up here too.

In other news, I’ve been shot in the knee.

Steroid injection?

Just had to unfuck the printer again. The wife overloads it by sending multiple documents (recipes) that include photos and it puts itself on pause. Figuring that out is a problem all of its own.

Aye. 'Twas.

Howdy Y’all! Met up with BP, his wife and kids, and the other delegate at a local place called Dingus MCGee’s. It was good and definitely a kolledge bar. Many little stoodints in the place. I had a patty melt with sweet N.O.T. fries. We also had two pitchers of beer amongst the four adults. BP’s oldest (four years old) decided that I was his BFF while we were there and sat beside me. I was honored! I had one of his corn dawg bites and he had a few of my fries. I am pretty sure I was the oldest person there.

Nettie trust me when I say the only surprise I will want when I get back to da cave is a shower and my own bed. Well a little ummm… “welcome home” would be nice too.:rabbit:

OK, the day and the drive, along with a full tummy, is catchin’ up with me. Time for sleepy bye.:bed:

Wifey, RN just got home. She said she’d get home late today; probably 4:30. She’s an hour later than that. She says we’re not going out to dinner tonight because of the weather. She said she was drive 50 mph on the freeway, and she wasn’t the only one. So now I have to think of something for dinner.

Quick pop in to say I neglected to say thank you to hippie for the info!

I thawed some ground beef. I’m making burritos for dinner.

Up from naptime, having a Monte Cassino, Smoked Paprika chicken, and watching hockey. Spot is crashed out.

Plenty of handholds to ascend that monolith.

{{{{susan and wife}}}}

I call it “being cat, and mysterious”

Sounds like my last pair of glasses.

It is better to have eaten a thing and thrown it up, and eaten it again than to have never eaten the thing. - Dog sage

A 70-something dude in skinny jeans? Yeah, it hurt the retinas.

Evening all. The corner of my backyard looks better with two bags full of sticks, tree limbs, and various other flora now at the curb for Moanday pickup. Spent some gym time and came home for some ham-n-cheesers with pudding-n-pie for dessert, so not likely to starve. Have the NFL tackleball game on Amazon open on another window, so will go back and forth between it for much of the evening. Otherwise internetting and sloth will occupy my time this evening.

Now to review the 30+ messages I have read and reply as the spirit (or spirits) move me…

swampy, glad you made it to your destination, even if you had to settle for Mickey D’s for lunch (I looked at a Google map around the city you mentioned, looked like there was a Huddle House on the way). Sounds like dinner was much better and you made a new friend.

That’s an interesting combination to clear the bathroom air…

Nut, hope the lab gods will have mercy on you tomorrow.

Pavo, FCM, another good reason I don’t have a cat, would never think to look up there for them…

Oopsie, good on you for the election work, and glad the plumbing now works. Safe travels.

So you will be a Nacho, nacho man…or reading farther, I guess not…

FCM, good luck on booking the cruise. And San Diego is a city I was briefly in and would like to see more of someday.

JtC, my will is fairly short, brother (or his family members) get it all, and I did remember to attach paperwork on where the money is. But never thought about credit/debit cards, need to add them to the list.

VanGo, hope dawg outgrows the chewing soon.

Depends on your sense of whimsy, I reckon, regarding Thoughts of Dog. Never heard of the cat before this either.

rocky, loved your videos, but I’m afraid that this one covers my abilities best… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hGI2d31M7Ns

nellie, hope you can get through to someone who can help.

flyboy, hope the knee shot helps.

And the tackleball game is already in the second quarter and I have other things to do, so take care and if I don’t get back tonight, will see everyone tomorrow.

JtC, that’s Ollie, too, only he scratches instead of licks. I can’t stand to see him suffering so. But…!

The baths are starting to help a lot, I think. I’ll know more after he sees the vet next week. Frankly, if it turns out to be yeast, I’m going to be a little angry with the vet’s office. They’ve been treating him for a year and a half with all these expensive – and more importantly, ineffective! – meds that haven’t addressed the underlying problem much at all. What put me on to trying the yeast treatment was one of their office people. We were talking about his itchiness and she asked, “Does he smell like cornflakes?” Well… no. I don’t think so. She came around the counter and snorted up a good lungful of Ollie Odor. Then immediately proclaimed, “Yeast!” So I ordered some special shampoo and he’s had 3 rounds of it now. No longer scratching himself silly. I think it’s in his ears, too, so I hope to get some medication for that. And then we’ll see.

I love this description of GG. I’m glad you have him to sooth you in these troubled times.

swampy, travel safe! And sorry you’re missing out on the orgy fun.

yankers, thank you so much for sharing pics of the petroglyphs! I really enjoyed them and they are indeed fascinating! And they raise more questions than give answers, don’t they? I get down that-a-way now and again. I may have to go see them for myself. Really intriguing!

I’m glad Cytopoint helps Lucy. It worked on Ollie for awhile. But the effectiveness is waning. Someone also suggested a different daily dose medication called Zenrelia. He said that Cytopoint didn’t work well with his dachshunds, but Zenrelia did wonders. If we’re really lucky, though, the yeast treatments will take care of it.

taters, sorry your chanterelle expedition yielded such sad results. But at least you had a fine wander. And glad the e-bikes have arrived at last to their destination.

red, Ugh about Nelson and his newfound trash basket preoccupation. They’re one of Ollie’s favorite things. If I don’t close the door to my bedroom/bathroom, he’s right in there, fishing out used tissues to eat. Such good taste. And I’m glad you’re finally feeling a bit better!

fly boy, I hope the knee injection goes well. I hear they can be really effective, and of course you have your wife to guide you in Things Medical. At least it’s in your rear view mirror.

shoe, Monkey pics never get old. Thanks for posting them, always!

Van Go, I’m sorry about the deceased kitty but relieved it’s not Bryan. Also, sorry that Peach is eating furniture. Ollie would do the same, unattended. So he either comes with me or stays in his crate when I go out. It’s his “safe” space, so it works out well for us. Not sure I could do that if I had a full time job, however. Ollie does have a play pen where I can put him with his crate and water if I’m going to leave him for longer than 4 hours. Is Peach too big for something like that?

Boo fae, I hope the van idiots have gotten the message by now and have stopped their thoughtless parking practices. Nothing like a hefty fine to ameliorate bad behavior.

Also, I thank you for inspiring me to resurrect my afternoon mug of tea habit. It’s so pleasant!

An excellent point. I’m going to remember this.

Nellie, I contacted SHIBA in Oregon through their website a week ago Tuesday and had a call from them last Friday. She promised to send me the results of her research in an email, and I got that yesterday. Their response time may be better than you think. It’s smart that you contacted them early. I do think they’ll be a lot more slammed as we get closer to the deadline. They are such wonderful, helpful people! I hope they can help you. And I’m glad the pain shots are helping and fingers crossed you get more relief soon. At least you have a terrific Thanksgiving you have to look forward to.

You are so, so bad. < chortle! >

Hugs for the plane crash. That was awful.

cookie, I’m with red on the poached eggs. I made 2 this morning, in fact. I don’t use milk, but it’s easy to poach them in water with no single-use appliance. Still, I imagine the eggs are a little bit tidier using the appliance.

Oopsie, well done with the election. Such important work. But you deserve to rest and let younger bones take over for the long, long days of off-year elections. You’ve done your bit.

lily, I’m sorry you and your lovely wife are each dealing with time-consuming medical issues. May the situations improve soon. We miss you.

FCM, good luck getting the cruise booked and have fun in San Diego. Sounds like a fun vacation, for sure!

metal mouse, glad you got the running boards installed on the new ride and that you’ve concluded another soccer season successfully. I need to find a day to do mowage here, too, but that’s definitely going to wait until after our first hard frost so I know all the hidden wasps’ nests are gone for the year. Enjoy whatever game you’re watching!

Not much new or exciting with me. Just handling little tasks around the place in anticipation of winter and still working to sort out all the different services I’ve recently taken on with changes to phones, tee vee and computer. Nothing works like I’m used to. And I can tell I’m older, because my brain won’t hang on to new learning as readily as it used to. I have to do things a few times before it will stick. Watching me fiddle with a cell phone fairly screams, “Fuddy duddy stupid old woman!!” Disheartening. I’m nevertheless determined to become a whiz on it, and I am consoled with the notion that most people have grown with this technology over the past 20+ years, and I’m taking it all on at once. So I tell myself.

Happy almost Friday, all!

Not quite. From the armrest of the futon. Still a pretty mighty jump.

Still, at least I came up with something for dinner. When all else fails, wrap something up in a tortilla.

I sure hope so. When I tried contacting them several years ago, it took two weeks to get a return phone call. I actually have a bunch of questions, too. When I signed up for Medicare, I got a lot of great help on Part D from the insurance company I selected fot that, and it wasn’t biased. I’m going to try them tomorrow.

That’s great info on the dog itchies! The little King Cavalier I walk has an iitching problem, and his person has tried all kinds of remedies. I’ll pass along what you said. Thanks!

swampy, you do seem like one of those people kids are drawn to. Adults, too!

I sent so much time on Medi-Don’t Care that I didn’t get through my To-Do list. I had to put some on the Do-morrow list.

I’d better rustle up some dinner so I can head to bed.

Late night final time. Tackleball game is not that interesting, so been watching You Tubes and peeking in and out of the SDMB. Termperature is 57F outside, and the chance of rain tomorrow has gone from 90% predicted earlier this week to 50% Firday night and early Saturday. We’ll see.

Bright Tree, best wishes for Ollie.

And that’s all I’ve got. Take care all and will resume correspondence on Firday.

I hadn’t thought about ice cream, that’s a great idea! I was thinking about adult punch for the Thanksgiving thing. Of course I’ll make punch for the littles, but they will get glitter and maraschino cherries instead.

Dang about the furniture eating thing, I hope she stops before she gets blocked.

Back when I was a food stamp worker, I saw so many pet rent charges on low-income rentals. It made me so mad, poor people love their pets too and making them choose between paying pet rent and buying groceries is just wrong. IMHO.

Pre-op? That MRI is worthless now. I hope you don’t have to wait that long. Are you also on their waiting list in case they get a cancellation? That’s how I got in for my MRI a day after my doctor ordered it.

That does sound like a good reason to stay home. I’m glad you got dinner sorted and agree that tortillas are great.

Susan, I do hope you and your lovely wife start feeling better soon!

Ugh! I’m so happy I’m out of those sort of glasses, I can remember suffering with the wrong focal point as well.

We have lost three parents, its the little things that can be such an issue.

Your executor not only needs to know about your plastic, they also need to know about your auto-payments. Your estate is responsible for finalizing them before the property/money can be distributed to the heirs.

So, while we were at Aldi yesterday, we picked up a few extra bags of groceries. Not much, eggs, milk, bread, a chicken and some fresh veggies each. The nice mail guy took them today and said he would drop them off with a few families on his way home. I offered to buy the mail guy a Thanksgiving box as well, but he told me to buy it and let him deliver it to a family as well, so that’s what will happen.

Last year I took x-mas bags to the low-income apartment (cookies, candy, x-mas kitchen towels and hot chocolate mix). I’m not doing that this year over politics. I’m taking them to the nursing home instead, there aren’t any trump signs there.

I will be angry with you, you don’t want to be giving your cutie patootie meds he doesn’t need. Most of the anti itch meds suppress the immune system and that’s not good for any critter.

He’s so plush! His fur is so soft, he doesn’t have that course overcoat many Maine Coons have and while he doesn’t have a loud purr, he vibrates like an idling Harley.

He’s grown up to be a pretty good cat. Jolene is still a brat though. She knocked one of my hand-thrown vases on the floor so I filled a heavy glass vase with pretty rocks and a handful of dried flower and used museum putty to stick it to the side table. She ate the flowers. Now there are plastic flowers that she keeps bending because she is a little stinker pot who just has to get into everything.

She also gets on the counters in front of us, then looks offended when I shove her off.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s 42 degrees Ferret Height(5.56 Centipedes).

Spot likes to run an inch in front of you when you’re walking, and scream because you’re obviously trying to trample him.

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 12c/53f with a predicted high of 14c/57f and mostly cloudy. Weather app says “It’s fucking cloudy, but not much else is happening. I’d have a fucking nap if i were you.” Actually, a nap wouldn’t be too bad just now.

Recliner and a trashy novel? Laundry?

Safe travels….I hope the bbq place is still there and you get something good for lunch! And now I read that it wasn’t and you had to settle for Maccie’s instead. What a disappointment.

I’ve not rented for many years, I think the last place I rented was owned by people who had cats so they were ok with me having one in the flat. Orly was never a destructive cat, and the flat survived her occupancy unscathed. Also, hope the lab gods are kinder to you today.

That sounds excellent! I hope you have a fabulous trip and come back refreshed and rejuvenated.

Glad to see you back again. I hope you and your lovely wife get some of that medical stuff sorted out soon.

We went to San Diego a few years ago, loved all the Mexican restaurants in the old town. Our hotel was not far from Petco Park (Hilton San Diego Bayfront), we did a lot of walking around and somehow managed to find ourselves parked on barstools at The Tipsy Crow several times!

I did all of that for my mum, fortunately she was keen on not letting my brother get his grubby mitts on everything so I looked after all her finances, and kept an updated spreadsheet of all her assets. It was extremely useful after she passed away, I sent it to the solicitor who was joint executor of the Will, and they handled it all for me.

It’s good to know you have someone who can come and look after you when you need it, and is happy to play with Nelson. Glad you’re starting to feel better!

The last couple of nights there’s been space for them to park further down the street (and other neighbours have been parked in front of my house, but not blocking the gates ‘cos they all know better than that). I did move my car out yesterday evening as soon as I got home so that I would be able to get to the station to collect ‘im indoors, and I may do the same tonight as I’ve got to be away early on Saturday morning.

Today is hopefully going to be a quiet irk day, I’ve got some stuff to do that requires concentration but fortunately there’s only two of us in today (and the chatterboxes are off). I’m planning to skip out about 10 minutes early, and why not, since the uni owes me almost 10hrs of TOIL now? That way I will be home a bit earlier and have a bit more time at home to do whatever I need to do before we head out for the evening. Tonight we’re off to see Black Lakes at the Giff - video is from their April show at the same place. I have told ‘im indoors I can’t be out too late (nor drinking too much) as I have to be up early on Saturday and we’ve got a very busy day coming up. Let’s see how successful I am with that!
