We had a super visit to the Oregon Zoo’s ZooLights this evening. Many lights, lots of kids, much good cheer. Portland was dry and not windy! Score!
We watched A Christmas Carol (1951), with Alastair Sim. I pulled out DVDs and Blu-Rays, and I thought that this was going to be the 1938 version with Reginald Owen; but we had A Christmas Carol and Scrooge, which was the English title. Anyway, the Blu-Ray included the 1939 Campbell’s Soup radio broadcast with Orson Welles narrating, and Lionel Barrymore as Scrooge. I listened to that.
Earlier, we went to a Christmas Eve thing at church. First time I’ve been to one. Never mentioned Santa Claus once. ![]()
I’m on my own. Sis still has to assist me to the loo, considering the dimensions of her bathroom, and most of the time, I’m accompanied by one or more dogs.
Merry Christmas!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 51 Amurrkin out and partly cloudy with a predicted high of 76 and sunny. Not exactly Christmas weather even for south Jawja. It will be just the two of us which suits me fine. I think lunch will be the main need to feed today. Later on we will watch A Tuna Christmas and eat junk food and pie. It’s a RDOS Christmas!
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! HO! HO! HO!
Merry Christmas and Happy Thursday Y’all!
Merry Christmas to all!
My daughters will be here mid morning for Brunch: Biscuits and gravy, sausage patties, scrambled eggs home fries and mimosas
Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 5c/40f with no predicted change, and partly cloudy. Weather app says “It’s a beautiful fucking day in the neighbourhood. Except it fucking isn’t, is it?” I’m not so sure, it’s bright and shiny out there and quiet (except for the idiot neighbour’s dog barking constantly at nothing).
Muffin was an only cat all her life, she came to us when she turned 12 because her person had dementia and went into a care home. We agreed to foster her as an emergency in the hope that someone else in the fostering team would be able to take her fairly quickly, so that she could be the only cat in their house. Sadly, we haven’t found anyone else to foster her, so she stays with us. I feel sad for her because she lives in one room and doesn’t get the attention she deserves, but at the same time, we don’t know anything about her background so we don’t know if she was particularly sociable in the first place ![]()
I hope he does better than the last ones, you could do with someone who knows what they’re about. Maybe you’ll bond over some woodworking chat! Glad to hear you are feeling better too.
That sounds very positive, having Nelson around must be good for your spirits!
{{{{{52}}}}} I’m sorry that you are having a tough time already, I hope things get easier for you.
lily great t-shirt!
I would have expected nothing less, you can’t stop being generous to other people, can you? ![]()
Sensei what an interesting mix of language in your house!
Perfectly so! I hope the big tree didn’t fall, and damage is minimal from anything else.
Merry Christmas!![]()
Yesterday was as predicted, I rollsucked the carpets and the house looked respectable for about five minutes until at least one cat used a litter tray and tracked tiny bits of the woodpellet litter around. ‘im indoors made ribs for dinner, we had a couple of bottles of Cava and watched a couple of films.
Today I got up late-ish for me, fed the cats and changed the litter trays, then went back to bed for a while. Got up again a bit later, washed my hair and dried it, had a couple of cups of tea and started reading the Dope. No big plans for today apart from cooking dinner for us. We don’t have our main meal until evening so I have still got to plan out timings for everything. All I know at the moment is that the turkey should take 3.5hrs to cook, and we will be eating at 7.30pm. I’ll work backwards from there.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. Roomie and I shall go over the river and through the woods to The Quay for dinner this afternoon. Spot is currently watching his shows.
Is it as off the hook as the Findus frozen peas commercial?
It’s not nothing, it’s The Invisible Mole People!
Well, biting is a cat love language. At least according to Spot.
Yeah, but, as awful as Chef BoyArDee ravioli is, it’s a helluva comfort food sometimes. I’m so ashamed…
How similar are Chinese, Japanese, and, for that matter, Korean? I’ve studied French and Spanish and picked up a smattering of Italian because they’re close enough. Can you say the same about the languages in your little corner of the world?
Something over 50 years ago, I learned how to introduce myself in Japanese. Of course, I’ve forgotten, and I’m not sure how much of a conversation one could have with that… ![]()
I seem to lack the meal-and-wine/beer pairing gene. Then again, I don’t like beer and I like very few wines. Plus I tend to drink my wines cold, regardless, and usually with ice. Which means, unless I’m home alone, I don’t drink anything beyond soda, hot tea, or water. My adorable quirk, yanno.
I woke early and read in bed till it was time to take my meds and start my day. I have to confess, it’s really nice not having the dog around. 'nuff said.
The green bean casserole is all mixed and in the oven in a crock pot crock. I’ll wrap it in a couple of towels to keep it warm for the trip to my brother’s, then plug it in and add the onion thingies on top. It’s a single, smal batch, supposedly 6 servings, and we’ll see how much I bring home.
I’ll hide this next bit of drama - don’t read if you don’t need me to harsh your holiday mellow.
My youngest sister, the drama queen, is staying home watching TV today. She’s all pissed at our other sibs for not helping out with Mom. I don’t know the whole story and I’m inclined to stay out of it on one hand. On the other, I think they’re waaaaay overdue to have a sit-down-and-talk-about-it session.
What I see is baby sis worried about what will she be facing if Mom dies or has some sort of medical emergency on her watch. She’s also worried about what will become of her after Mom dies, since she can’t stay in their house. No way she can afford the taxes, insurance, and upkeep, but she also doesn’t have enough to buy her own house - a condo, maybe…
Anyway, her pissy tantrum is going to hang over the day.
Fa-la-la-la-laaaaaaa!
Happy Christmas and/or Thursday to all!
It’s raining and 48 degrees Ferret Height(8.89 Centipedes)
MOIST CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!!
We didn’t put up a tree this year, and Mrs. Nott’s brand new creche set (manger scene) is still in its box. Life goes on, regardless.
In one of the James Bond movies, Bond gets into a ski chase in which one of the bad guys falls down into the path of one of those snow slinger trains. The slung snow is momentarily pink.
Merry Christmas everyone who celebrates and Happy Holidays to everyone else.
I woke up in the middle of the night realizing that I didn’t have a dessert planned. OH NO!!! A quick mental check of our pantry reassured me, after I finish my coffee I’ll make a cherry pie or cobbler. Haven’t decided fully yet.
Have a great day everyone!
Merry Christmas to those who celebrate and a good morning to all.
It’s 37°F, and a light rain is falling. Our daytime high will reach 43°F, and rain is likely throughout the day.
52, I’m very sorry about your uncle.
FCM, I’m sorry about the family drama. Hopefully, you’ll all enjoy yourselves regardless. I understand not wanting to make the drive.
My son surprised us and came up late evening yesterday, so that was nice.
As predicted, not much happened here yesterday except for rollsucking and slothing until my son arrived. Thank goodness I washed the guest room bedding yesterday afternoon, so it was ready for him to use. As others in the PNW have mentioned, the dreaded windstorm never arrived, and that’s a good thing.
I’ll probably put the roast in the oven around noonish, depending on whether my son needs to go home tonight or is staying again. As for dessert, I never asked my son to bring any, but I’ve got ice cream in the freezer.
I wrapped presents for my son and husband yesterday evening and opened the box of wrapped gifts my daughter had sent so I could put them under the tree. Besides a wrapped present for all of us, she sent the pups a stuffed toy and a cute Christmas tea towel featuring a black lab looking up at a lit tree. The stuffies are hidden until we unwrap our presents. The pups sure made out this year; two stuffed toys each, and a smoked bone from the butcher shop!
Alright, I should finish my coffee and hop in the shower. I wish you all peace and happiness, whether you celebrate the day or not.
Happy Christmas!
I have started the watching of “a Christmas story”. “Die hard” will follow after cousin time.
Cupcakes for breakfast.
Merry Christmas y’all!
Since BIL is working today, Sis and I will get Chinese and watch Christmas movies.
My phone finally reset itself (from EDT to EST) three or four days ago. Does that count for a Xmas miracle?
No snow in sight – my daughter’s 31st consecutive non-white Xmas, and her 29th in New England. 80% chance of snow tomorrow night, though.
I stopped celebrating xmas a long time ago. Plus I have no family.
Its sunny and 38 out. I walked to Dunkin; thank God for places that are open!
Church Guy is bringing over leftover turkey from his family dinner yesterday. Hes going to RL to eat and also bringing me fish & chips from there.
I’ve got books to read so I’m okay.
Used up some leftover pancake batter for Christmas breakfast. I have two steaks dry-brining in the fridge since last night. That will be dinner, along with baked potato, etc. We’re having a typically quiet Christmas. We haven’t done gift exchanges for the last 20 years, and it really reduces the stress of having to shop at a time when quiet is preferable. I highly recommend it.
I’ve got to get after maintenance next week about our water pressure and hot water issues. We’ve had problems ever since a contractor did work on the system some time ago.
Someone, probably a Doper, on Farcebook said there should be a version of A Christmas Carol with Christopher Lloyd portraying Ebenezer Scrooge (with Lloyd’s signature exclamation). So asked sora to make it.
