Mrs. L.A. gave me a jar of dad jokes, and a new toaster oven for Christmas.
I don’t know how old the Euro Pro tconvectin oaster oven is, but I had it before she moved up in 2010. It’s been a good oven, but it’s incredibly dirty on the inside. The foil I put down to catch grease had been there for almost as long as I’ve had the oven. It’s black and bonded. A hinge pin on the door is broken, but the door is supported on that side by the curved thing that kept it from opening too far. If I don’t shut the curtain between the kitchen and the laundry room, it sets off the smoke alarm. It sounds like a bearing on the fan is wearing out. It’s perfect for cooking bacon, for things in an 8x8 baking dish, and other things; but it has to go. I’ll save the pan.
The new Black & Decker Air-Fry Convection Toaster Oven is smaller. No more cooking bacon or baking dish things in a toaster oven. But it’s mechanical (no problematic electronics) and nice and clean.
Haven’t read the last 30 or so messages yet, will do so after this, but wanted to wish everyone a happy Holiday and all the best for the rest of the year
James has said that he’s become much more popular in the past few months and openly wonders if its not him, its my cookies, LOL!
He also said that any day-old homemade bread left by the toasters in the morning will be gone by night. Now that I know how to bake something that is better than just edible I will have somewhere to take all of my test loaves.
Thanks for your confidence in my baking skillz, you wouldn’t have been nearly as sure had you seen my first attempt.
I’m glad you didn’t blow away, the weather sounded pretty dire.
While I’m sure she doesn’t mind, that’s still gotta be a bit of a problem.
Do you have a pool close by? I wonder if getting in the water and kicking your legs around might be helpful.
Your xmas sounds nice and low key, I hope you have a great time!
I hope the Sticky family has a wonderful day!
Its almost 60 here, we aren’t expecting more snow until the end of next week. Just in time for the new Years drunks
You are doing so much more for her than anyone else is willing to do, no guilt allowed!
You are so kind and so silly. It’s great to have someone happy to take our leftovers and test bakes, it allows me to play in the kitchen with out worrying about food waste.
I bought him a puffer jacket for xmas, but that’s for me as well. He has a coat, but it gets tangled in his wheelchair when he’s getting into the car. A down jacket will solve that problem and make it easier for me to load him up to go protest at the capital.
I’m glad you are going out instead of spending one of your precious days off cleaning up after cooking a big meal. That makes so much more sense for working folks. Or at least it did back when we were working.
Jolene still bites Hubs on a regular basis. But she also bites GG. She doesn’t bite me, but I’m just the help in her mind, nobody important.
From my understand, they both evolved separately and don’t have a common base language. IMHO, they don’t sound alike but I knew conversational Okinawian and knew what Okinawian didn’t sound like if that makes any sense at all. I’ve been told that native Mandarin speakers can’t understand Cantonese despite both languages being spoken in the same country.
Of course, I am still having problems with the local language here despite being a native American speaker.
Dang about your sister. Is there anything she can do as far as planning for her future?
The fuzzbutts got new beds, a few more toys to hide under the fridge and …drumroll…Halo Chicken Treats! They love these more than squeezy crack, but chewy carries the churus so that’s what usually gets ordered.
Grain, vegetables and dairy. Sounds like a great breakfast to me!
Huh. I was just thinking that we didn’t move far enough north. Sounds like that wouldn’t have worked either.
Quiet and stress free is the way to go, I hope you day stays that way and the power stays on.
Lily, that was funny and sad at the same time. Its just a little too real nowadays.
Well, break is over, time to go check on things in the kitchen. All of the prep work is done, now I’m just assembling things according to the clock.
Christmas dinner has been eaten, with enough steak left over to have a stir fry in the next couple of days. I’ll pick up the chicken breasts for our NYD chili feed tomorrow, and we’re almost out of bacon (the horror!). I’ll also pick up some broccoli for the stir fry.
I think we’re going to take Sadie to the vet to have her eyes looked at again. The left one is really runny and tends to glue shut when she’s sleeping. I don’t think her eyes are infected, but it’s best to be sure. Hoping we can get an appointment tomorrow.
Home, exhausted, and waiting for Daughter and her crew so the grands can get more gifts. Ate waaaaaaay too much, but tomorrow I’ll go back to eating right. My brother and one sister were talking to me about the drama queen - I gave them my opinion and that was that. No advice for them, just my thoughts.
Traffic up was mild - just over an hour to get there. Then over 2 hours to get home. Enjoying my recliner.
Howdy Y’all! A nice, quiet Christmas Day here. We had a lunch very similar to what you described Cookie. We achieved nappage and sipped champagne (we be fancy!) while we watched A Tuna Christmas. Then we watched a couple more episodes of Victoria. OYKW is on the bed watchin’ teevee and I am in my recliner. I shall join him anon.
From what you’ve shared, it seems as though she has the patience to be an excellent marksperson.
That kinda sucks, but at least you won’t risk burning the house down anymore.
@BippityBoppityBoo I hope you had a great Christmas and are now happily home in the quiet.
Have you looked into visiting vets? We had one for a while back in AZ and it was so nice to not have to load the cats up and take them for a drive. I haven’t found one here, but there is a cat only vet in town which is helpful.
Hurray for good traffic and dang about the drama/gossip. Have a great evening and relax, you deserve it.
So, as usual, all day in the kitchen for ten minutes at the table. The food came out good and because people eat with their eyes, I waited until we were ready for cobbler to whip the cream. It seems as though cream whipped in front of people tastes much better than cream whipped in a different room.
James brought wrapped prezzies which made me a little frowny. He only gets fifty bucks a month spending money, I don’t want him spending it on us. (He also has a side gig but that’s his used book money.)
OTOH, it allowed me to give him our gifts ftf instead of leaving them at the desk for an orderly to deliver when they had time.
The fuzzbutts got a bag of Temptations treats and Hubs and I got used books. He started reading the Reacher series a couple of years back and is a slow reader so there are a bunch that he hasn’t read. James bought the next one for Hubs.
I got a very well thumbed 1970’sMagna tentacle porn comic and a pair of rubber gloves. I almost peed my pants laughing so hard
Hubs volunteered to be the DD, so James and I enjoyed some loaded hot chocolate. James went home with a big bag of leftovers, including most of the cobbler and two loaves of sliced bread and a stick of butter. The cooks won’t cut outside food or loan their bread knives out, so I have to slice the entire loaf before it goes there.
Jolene has the cat equivalent of a sugar rush from all of the treats and has turned into a very rotten cat who refuses to stay out of the closets. There is nothing in the closets to interest her, but the doors are closed and that is suddenly intolerable.
Chinese and Japanese are completely different languages. The grammars are completely amd Chinese is tonal while Japanese isn’t.
The largest similarities are that they share kanji characters, although the pronunciations are different and they often use different ones for the same word. For example, in Japanese a parking lot is 駐車場 while in Chinese it’s 停車場. Taking the meaning of the characters, they can understand by each other when written.
Japanese and Korean have similar word orders (with verbs last) but pronunciation and vocabulary are different.
I am writing to you from my kitchen. My stepsons are sleeping in the front rooms so I have to be vewwwy quiet. Also, my poodle has been captured somewhere overnight so I am alone. (I think she’s in my mom’s room either sleeping or merely trapped by a door that won’t open. Hopefully she’ll escape and head my way soon.
Yesterday was nice. It was very leisurely all the way around. MusicMan did most of the grunt work when making our meal because of the issue that I’m having with my latest meds. I don’t remember if I’ve mentioned it, but basically it makes me very weak and my hands shake quite a bit. Not really conducive to cooking. This med has been reduced and/or is on its way out, though. So hopefully it will loosen its grip on me soon.
And if you saw my ham picture on FB, yes, that is the outer wrapper that was covering the ham when we got it!
