(Old) Happy Hanuholichristkwanzaavus- A Holiday(s) Week MMP

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 51 Amurrkin out and partly cloudy with a predicted high of 73 and sunny. I shall go and handle candle duty this mornin’ and go to  Wally Jr. for some needed items. OYKW may or may not tag along. He seemed to be leanin’ towards not last night. Outside of that, we will engage in RDOS inactivities as is our wont. Sup will be majik intartoobz pizza and sallit just cause.

Seems as if most everyone had a pleasant Christmas Day. There have definitely been some nummy descriptions of foodstuffs. We Mumpers know to eat well!

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas, I must purtify and don acceptable attire for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. Given where I am doin’ my errands, sweatpants, Tshirt, hoodie and sneaks will make me look tres chic.

Happy Firday Y’all! Happy Boxing Day to those who do whatever you do. It sounds like a sacred holiday for cats.

Thanks for dispelling some of my ignorance. I suppose I thought their proximity might have played a part, but obviously not.

Yeah, this whole week has felt out of kilter, as will next week, I suspect.

Fell asleep late and woke early - but I’ve had breakfast and the dishwasher is cleaning the mess I should have dealt with last night. FCD is still abed, which is good. We’ll be doing some work on the boat this morning before picking up Otis and asking if the nice lady will do doggy day-care tomorrow so we can do some more boat work.

I’ll have a butt-load of laundry today, mostly because FCD can now wear a bunch of sweaters that haven’t fit him in ages, so he wants them washed, and I have a bunch of knit cardigans that have hanger bumps that I want gone. I don’t know what I’ll do - I hate to fold them on a shelf, but I may not have a choice. And I need to think about supper so I can pull something out of the freezer before we leave. He and I both over-indulged yesterday so we need to get back on track today.

We’ll see how the day goes.

Happy Firday!!

Even though the languages are completely different, it’s much easier for Chinese speakers to learn written Japanese and vice versa than for English speakers to learn either one, because of the characters.

One reason it’s more difficult to learn Japanese or Chinese than say German or Spanish is the characters.

SenWife’s Japanese isn’t much better than mine and one reason is that she cheated by being born in a Chinese speaking country.

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 4c/39f with a predicted high of 5c/41f, and mostly sunny. Weather app says “Fool me once, fucking shame on you. Fool me twice, fucking shame on me. Fool me every fucking time, you’re probably a fucking weather person.”

Can you not do the same things as before, just using a smaller dish?

I worked for a few month in the Metallurgy & Materials part of the university, it was a very odd building, hard to navigate and made up of a lot of labs. I rarely saw anyone and worked in an office by myself. One year I decided to have a go at making fudge. Took me several attempts to get it to set properly and all my failed attempts (edible but more gooey than I wanted) ended up in the kitchen at the opposite end of the corridor to my office. It all got eaten, and the students left me a lovely note of thanks for it!

Poor Sadie, I hope the vet can sort that out for you and hopefully it’s nothing too serious.

That sounds good, and interesting, not something I’ve tried before. Might have a go at it later!

That sounds like the perfect kind of day

Christmas Day here was pretty much as expected. We exchanged gifts after lunch and decided to watch a film in the afternoon. It was one that had to be paused many times because I was making dinner - roast turkey, roast potatoes, stuffing, pigs in blankets, Yorkshire puddings, and veg (peas and carrots for ‘im indoors, and I had fart blossoms as well but he doesn’t like them so they’re all mine!) with gravy. Definitely too stuffed for any more food!

The evening was spent on the sofa sipping champagne (‘cos we’re as posh and refined as Swampy) and watching films. Today I have no plans for anything except deciding what we’re having for dinner tonight. There’s a lot of leftover turkey, and I also have a smoked gammon joint in the fridge to cook so might do that and have both meats tonight with roast potatoes and veggies.

The radio weather guy said we’re going to have rain and Apache fog. That’s not surprising. Most of the snow has melted, and the puddles are evaporating.

Flyboy, did your jar of Dad jokes come with “canned laughter”?

The Winter Olympics are coming soon. I’ll see if I can find my U. S. A. Olympic Curling t-shirt. I’ve never been a curler, but, as a retired factory janitor, a sport that involves sweeping appeals to me. I never had a desire to ski. Adding wind chill to unpleasant cold adds up to frostbite, not fun.

Christmas with the nephfolk and nibblings went well. I sat through the after-dinner conversation, keeping track of the subject matter. When it got to already-grumped-about stuff, I stood up, saying, “Okay, we’re officially going in circles. It’s time to go home.” That might have marked me as a grouch, but I think it was better than waiting until I nodded off. My wife’s family has a gene that makes them parting-impaired. It takes them a long time to get from “deciding to leave” to “actually leaving.”

The chicken will, but not the bacon. I make a chicken and black bean chili that’s pretty good. Never been a fan of ground beef in chili and prefer things like carne adovada or chili verde.

Happy Boxing Day to those who celebrate!

Today involves a doctor’s appointment, but that’s about it.

Good morning!

It’s 34°F and foggy outside. The forecast calls for periods of rain with a daytime high of 43°F. It was downright soggy yesterday.

Happy Boxing Day to those who celebrate.

Yesterday was lovely, the food was good, and everyone enjoyed their presents; even those who were afar. Today will consist of general sloth for me. The dishes were taken care of last night, and I don’t feel a need to do any tidying. My son is here for another night, at least, and I’ll spend time hanging out with him.

Sticky Buns, I’m happy to hear your day was enjoyable, but I’m sorry that your meds are causing issues.

JtC, it sounds like you, your hubby, and James had a nice time! He has quite a sense of humor!

We’ll have leftovers from last night for tonight’s meal. Lord knows, there are plenty of them.

That’s about all for now. I need some more coffee, and a banana. Take care!

I’d have to cut about a third of the bacon off.

Titty-boom!

Today is Ursala Kitteh’s tenth gotcha day. The shelter told me she was about 12 when I got her which would make her 22 which is highly doubtful. I think she was about to when I got her. Anyway, it’s been a decade of happiness with my little house panther.

They started me out in smalls feeding the SSLAW. But there wasn’t much, so they moved me to loading in Orange 32. Bu there wasn’t much, but there was allegedly a tote of stuff to be clerks in Irregs, so I moved there. There were a few things, but a huge amount of out of center stuff. I don’t know if they unloaded the wrong trailer and the clerkable stuff got mixed in, or there was a trailer that had the 20 of our boxes mixed in with 1000 out of centers. Then I had to do the same up front with the missorts from Brown 120. I’m just glad the drivers didn’t leave till 10:00, because we needed the whole 4 hours to un-FUBAR things. But that’s done, laundry is in the dryer, so naptime.

I also enjoy watching.

HAPPY GOTCHA DAY!!!

Fried egg sandwiches this morning.

I went down for exercise, then reshelved some books and got into a conversation with an old lady who hangs out there, which went on for awhile. Then went downstairs in search of the maintenance guy, but instead ran into the new executive director and ended up chatting with him for awhile. Ended up worrying my wife after being gone for an hour and a half, which I was sorry about. I didn’t realize so much time had elapsed and she had gone looking for me. So I’m in a bit of a doghouse at this point.

Mrs. Nott says today is the day she’ll wrap up my paperwork for Rock Steady Boxing, so maybe that counts.

Somebody (my niece, I think) gave us a jigsaw puzzle called The World Of Sherlock Holmes. The picture is very detailed, and the pieces are teensy, so, true to the subject matter, I shall need a magnifying glass to assemble it.

Happy gotcha day to peedin’s Ursula!

And a happy Boxing Day to all. Gesundheit, every one.

Merry Vestiges of Christmas Day! I’ve caught up on reading all I missed and am resisting the urge to reply to each post. I don’t know what the record for longest MMP post is, but that would surely have been a contender.

I celebrated Christmas by…taking a nap. I almost never nap, but I was tired, and it seemed like a Christmas-y thing to do. (Mama in her 'kerchief, and I in my cap/ had just settled our brains for a long winter’s nap…) My sisters both called. The kids will call today. I wanted to watch It’s a Wonderful Life, but I couldn’t find anywhere it’s streaming for free except Netflix, which apparently and unaccountably cut out a crucial 22-minute segment.

Among other gifts, I got a bar of handmade, all-natural soap from son and DIL. I LOVE the scent, but it’s so powerful that I haven’t developed nose blindness in the 24 hours it’s been open. Whoa, it’s strong. I’m going to try keeping it in a covered glass dish.

Today is housework day. I can tell I’m Christmas-ed out because I start craving homemade vegetable soup.

Despite having read all, I’ve retained little, so I’ll just throw hugs (like kisses) and good wishes.

Happy Gotcha day, ursula!

We did a little work at the boat. I want to share a pic of the boat, well the top of it, in the paint shed:
Imgur
I think there’s less than a foot between the top of the frame and the ceiling.

Oh, and the installed swim platform:
Imgur
It’s a little dusty. And those are my feet.

We’re home now. We went to Olive Garden for soup and salad, then we picked up Otis. He’s chawing on a new antler and we’re thrilled to have someone to watch him as needed. She charges $40/day or $20 for doggie day care. I think that’s a dang good deal. And she lurves Otis, so that’s another plus.

For now, I’m going to assume the recliner position for a while. First load of laundry is washing, three more to go. I’ll be doing laundry for at least 4 more hours. Rah.

And I’m home. Left about 7am, three pit stops, one traffic jam due to an accident outside Clarksville and very modest traffic in Nashville along with a light rain 80% of the way were the highlights, but no problems. Inside now and preparing a Friday shopping list that may or may not get done later today. Xmas was fun and the family is well but all we did for two days is sit in the house and watch movies between yelling at the dogs and being buried under them. Got what I asked for (a fold-able wagon I can use for moving soccer stuff to and from the fields) so that was nice. Still looking like it’ll rain anytime but it’s 65F on 26 December, so not complaining too much.

I promise to re-engage with everyone as soon as I can, but need to put stuff away and in general get back to being more or less living in my house again.

I do hope all y’all had a happy and relaxing Xmas and if you didn’t, then we’ll have to work on that for 2026…take care and I’ll be back to normal reportage here in a little while (now need to check the bank and credit accounts and see what damage I have done…).

We’re back from Maine. Lots o driving for a 1 day visit, but it was nice to see the whole family together…I can’t remember the last time.

Ms Peach was a brat. Her “cousin” was there, a roughly the same size pittie as Peach, but Eleanor has like 20 lbs and 10 years on Peach. Much wrestling, which is fine, but then Peach got would up and wouldn’t calm down for the rest of the time there. As in, we’re sleeping on Xmas eve and “Santa” went down to load stockings, which required barking. Then she decided she didn’t like my Dad’s recliner, the squeaky noise it made had to be barked at, too.

The drive back sucked. Sun in my eyes for the first 4 hours, then into snow and sleet for the last what should be 3, made it turn into 4.5. I’m tired.

Last load in the washer - with luck, I’ll be all done by 9.

I forgot to share - the kennel where Otis stayed is part of a small farm. That part of the business is parties/petting zoo/photos. Otis became best buds with their donkey - the cows and llama (or is it an alpaca??) weren’t much impressed.

They also had 2 ducks - Duck Norris and Quacky Chan. Alas, very early this morning, apparently a fox got them. Sarah was quick to assure us Otis didn’t kill them (she knew about is poultry-hunting ways.)

OK, back to my book as I await the next laundry alarm.
