(Old) Happy New Year 2024 MMP

First day back at work didn’t suck. I got through all my email and also spent a lot of time writing today. I think we are fully recovered from COVID, though Spouse Weasel and I are both staying out of the office for the rest of the week. I’m tired, but it’s hard to tell the difference between “COVID tired” and “I have a three year old” tired.

I meditated this morning, which felt really nice. Just lit a candle and sat there for fifteen minutes. I want to do that more.

But I think in order to do all the things I want to do every morning, I need to get up earlier.

I never had one until a couple of months ago…really so good! The nearest KFC is too far of a drive just for fast food, but DoorDash usually gets it here in 30-40 min and it’s still hot. Unfortunately, tonight the folks at KFC decided that they are going to watch my diet for me: I ordered shortly after my previous post and the food arrived quickly, but I received some mashed potato/corn/chicken tender abomination instead of the pot pie clearly marked on the receipt and stapled to the bag. (I like all of those foods separately but would never order one of those bowls; no way I was going to try to eat it.) I told DoorDash about the mistake and immediately got a credit, and figured it was still early enough to try again. The second order took an HOUR, and when it arrived it was another damn mashed potato/corn/chicken tender thing! Again in a bag with a stapled receipt saying “pot pie”! Totally not the driver’s fault either time, so they each got 4 stars from me. Apparently, whoever packed the order at the KFC can’t read. Grrr.

So, now (7pm) I’m eating a protein bar and will be making popcorn soon.

Ah, well.

Three hours behind you, and Wifey, RN has a late patient. (Well, not a late patient. Just later in the day.) I don’t know if she’ll want dinner, but I’m thinking I’ll have kebabs, tzatziki, feta, and Kalamata olives.

Received an envelope today from a well known celebrity who is connected to a well known hospital which was addressed to “MyFirstName InitialofMyLastName HubsLastName”. It had a return self-addressed postage to be paid by addressee envelope. I wrote the following on the solicitation letter: Dear Celebrity, No one with this name has ever existed much to my mother-in-law’s consternation. My name is … If you ever hope to receive a donation from me, you would need to address the solicitation to me rather than a non-existent person. PS. Enjoyed “name of show” very much. When I was a Camp Counselor, I learned to play your Theme song on the guitar. We sang it around campfires.

RealFish I’m with your hubby; if I had my druthers, I would prefer to keep Christmas decorations up until Candlemas Day (Feb 2) but at a minimum until Epiphany (12 days of Christmas).

shoe I love the idea of making it festive for the various holidays. Good suggestion.

Wow oopsy, that’s OUTSTANDING!

Are they jello shots? (vodka). If so, yes, bring the jello jiggler shots. Otherwise, go with the piggies.

no, not just you, I don’t see any cake either. But Happy Doperversary flyboy

Alarm went off at 5:55am and hurriedly dressed for 6:30 mass. Drove the normal way and was stopped 2 blocks from church due to closed street. Had to backtrack and go around the large park but made it 1 minute before mass started. Made a quick stop at Kroger to pick up a circular and buy some 'nanners. quick breakfast of 'nanner and toast with blueberry jam and coffee. Had to remind Hubs to get up at 8am and take his shower with the special soap that the transplant team had given him (Chlorhexidine wash), he really didn’t want to get up at that time but I told him that there likely was a reason that they wanted him to do so at that time. Did a load of laundry and washed dishes then it was time to go to the hospital, well, first the Cancer Center across from the hospital for appointment with transplant doc. She went over a lot of the same stuff that she did at the previous pre-op appointment, then the nurse drew blood (I looked away) and did a COVID swab of Hubs nose. Then we walked on the over the street walkway over to the hospital to go to Interventional Radiology for his appointment for the Trifusion catheter placement (in his chest). They had said that it would take approximately 4 hours from time of appointment (noon) until release, so I went home after asking nurse to call me approximately 1/2 hr before release. I made lunch and watched a little TV then at 2pm, just 2 hrs after appointment time, my phone rang and nurse said Hubs was ready to be released as soon as he put his clothes back on. So, I hustled to the car and back to hospital. Hubs had originally asked for cheeseburger for dinner but I suggested meatloaf since it would be moister and easier for his digestive system. So, dinner was meatloaf, mashed yukon gold and broccoli. Daughter left Chitown about 1/2 hr ago and I reminded her to be very careful driving since it’s been misting all day and temp is down below freezing so roads will be slick. And that’s where we are; after reading that shoe had sleet this morning, I’m more concerned about the west part of I94 in the mitten.

Hubs will be admitted tomorrow at 8am. He will have 5 days of chemo then the stem cells will be transplanted on Jan 11. The transplant doc said barring any complications, he will only be in the hospital for 2 weeks after the transplant. So, I need to get extremely busy with the deep cleaning of our domicile.

Likely won’t be around much for the next 3 weeks. Take care all.

Somebody raiding their parents’ liquor cabinet and is faced with that or ouzo.

Good luck with the interview coppertone!

By my calculations, I’ve been a doper for ~27% of my life. While I was calculating, I found that I’ve been in Tennessee for 47% of my life.

Irked today in misery (head colds are like that). I requested tomorrow and Monday off to shake this nastiness. Already, I’m breathing a little better. A vaporizer, cold meds I can’t take at irk and a hot beverage will do that for you. I’m still going to turn in fairly early and sleep in tomorrow.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Waves at everyone. I haven’t been ignoring you all, I’ve been reading but haven’t been at my desktop.

Welcome to the new folks, I hope the job interview goes well Coppertone.

But then you have to go to bed earlier so you will need to limit some of your evening activities. As much as young working folks like to pretend otherwise, sleep is mandatory.

DANG!!!

I bought one of those mashed potato bowls once because like you, I like all of those things. I quickly found that they didn’t work out as well as the designers had hoped. (I love your legos.)

As it is the new year, I am allowed to start a new project as long as I have fewer than two Works In Process and that includes finishing them off. I already have the new project but haven’t allowed myself to do so much as bag the floss because I have two that need to be finished first.

I only have one now, then I can play with new strings for a while.

Today was surplus day and when I picked up the Wagon Ladies (the ones who pull wagons to get their boxes in nicer weather) I learned that they both got the monthly USDA low-income commodity boxes. We managed to tetris four open produce boxes, two sealed boxes and three people into my little econobox car and nobody had to hold anything. This isn’t just a skill, its a talent, LOL!!!

We got a lot of shelf-stable stuff today, things we won’t eat along with a whole bunch of cherry tomatoes and grapefruits.

I pulled out the food we would eat and sorted the rest into boxes for NewFriend, ChickenGuy and the library Give and Take food shelves. NF happily took all of the grapefruits (we both take statins so can’t have them) and CG gave us a dozen eggs. Hubs is going to town tomorrow and will deliver NF’s box then. She won’t be at Tai Chi because she caught a horrible cold and is staying in until she recovers.

@Seanette posted pics of Buddy in her cabinets and while I admired his handsomeness, I also envied her nicely ordered cans and boxes.

So…as long as today is my play with food day, I got into our pantry and sorted things out. It was kinda embarrassing to see how many duplicates we had in there because they got shoved to the back and forgotten about. I checked the expiration dates, pitched a few old things and put a lot of extra into the box for the G&T shelf.

I’m not sure how long I would be considered to be a Doper. I was a member before they started charging. At that point in time I was spending all of my spare money for cat rescue so went back into lurker mode until a couple of years ago.

Not for me either.

Evening all. The pool had the heat back on, so I did some extra swimming to catch up with my goal, so nearly 3 hours there between backstroking, reading in the whirlpool, and sweating in the sauna. Have dined on ham-n-cheesers on rye bread so my calorie intake was large but manageable. Now inside for the evening with internettin’ and readin’ my major goals.

Guess it’s been the travel and holidays, but it just doesn’t feel like a Wednesday today; more like Saturday, but I know it’s not. Guess it’ll take another week to get back into the routine.

red, feel better soon.

Oopsie, can understand the error once, but twice in a row? I’d be Grrr’ing too. And the Lego work is awesome!

FCM, isn’t Roxy a bit too young to get married? Nice work.

Pilot, enjoy your trip to Colombia; when I worked for the US Army we had some contracts with the Colombian Air Force but with the cartels and guerillas at the time, we weren’t allowed to go there. Hope it’s nice. And thanks for the tip on blocking things with the \

Thanks all for the pearl reference; I’ll remember that now (until I forget it again).

Herald, looks like meat’s back on the menu…

Cat Glove, update us when you can and all appedages crossed that things go well for Hubs.

JtC, glad the food got to where it will do the most good.

Real fish, shoe had to look up ‘feeders kink’ and…no thanks, I’ll put what I want to eat in my own mouth, thank you. And fish, glad the PT FUBAR was caught early enough to remedy it.

Flyboy, early congrats on mortgage payoff in 2025. Be sure to give us a reminder.

Whew!! Keeping up with you folks is a big job. Take care all and back to my internettin’.

Up from naptime, had to run to Aldi for milk since the jug in the fridge had gone off.

Speaking of which, you can no longer access online furry porn in N.C., thanks to the GOP.

I’ve been on the SDMB for 43% of my life.

Take care, and good luck to Hubs!

If I click on your name, Johnny_L.A, I see your join date is January 4, 2000. So tomorrow morning you should have a cake. Why did you get one a day early, I wonder.

I haven’t looked into it at all, but my suspicion is that it’s because those are the selfsame… people… that think teachers are putting litter boxes in classrooms and calling children that pretend to be animals “furries”.

shudder

Curiosity will put images that you need to bleach from your mind in your head.

And yeah, if I hadn’t needed to call to check the time (since it wasn’t in the portal), I’d have driven into town for no reason.

Howdy Y’all! We procured provisions, got back to da cave to stow ‘em away and then went and did a thing. We switched from ATT to Verizon for phone service. Internet is still with ATT and we have DirectTV, which is also ATT. However, I had not been happy with ATT’s cellular service and kept hearin’ how good Verizon’s service is, so the switch got made. Took a while to get our numbers ported over, mainly due to my ability to only be served by people who are dressed by their mother’s each mornin’ in spite of lookin’ like grown ass adults. Got it done, however. So we have brand new iphones and as a bonus new ipads and these weird Dick Tracy two way wrist tv watch thingies. OK, not exactly Dick Tracy, but close. I am not fond of watches, but OYKW is so he’s happy. Neither of us has ever owned an ipad (we’re semi-Ludites) so I have a new toy I’m excited about. I did forego nappage once again to get this all done. Never fear, however, cause I will begin nappage again tomorrow. We did day drink and also had leftovers for sup.

I read all, but retention is not my friend this evenin’, so, yays, boos, hugs, trouts, chitlins, noogies and how you doin’s all around, as needed.

And I did. Quick, easy, and delicious.

The Spousal Unit had a kebab wrap in a Carb Balance Spinach Herb tortilla.

I saw your cake earlier, and am seeing it again now. Any day is a good day for cake, so enjoy!

Thanks  It gets me out of the house and I’ve long maintained that hunger isn’t a food shortage, it is a transportation issue.

Hummm. Thinks about smoking a bunch more weed and shutting off my child filters. I got all :astonished: :exploding_head: :astonished: at some of the results of my cat rescue googling so turned my child filters on.

Many prayers and good thoughts going your way. If you have a sudden need for cookies, do let me know.

I have wanted one of those forever!!! We’ve always had droids, please report back about how you get along with apple products.

Apparently she has her sights set on someone named Kyle…

She also plans to be a doctor because she likes to make people feel better. She’s a gem!

Sitting here with my spaghetti and meatballs, feeling good; no one has put me down for 2 days. Woot!

Codpiece face! :stuck_out_tongue:

(Just kidding. Doesn’t count against the clock. )

Tai chi has been cancelled tomorrow due to weather conditions. Which means it just rained about half an inch but there will be hoarfrost on the ground and TC instructor is a flatlander who really doesn’t understand how weather works up here yet.

Nextdoor is blowing up over people getting letters telling them that they can’t vote in the upcoming Presidential Preference election. (Independents and fringe party folks don’t have more than one Presidential candidate-so don’t have a reason to choose one.)

Star link is also a constant problem now that folks are awake after dark and can see the launches while standing outside smoking tobacco.

Imma going to smoke an entire joint and then do some mindless monster bashing. It won’t make things better, but sure won’t hurt.

Well, honey, that’s on you.

“Had to.” Mm hmm.

That’s an awfully specific restriction.

Glad they got that whole pesky “violent crime” thing completely solved, so they can turn their attention to … ?

Standards. We haz them.

I mean that, lovingly, in my weird “bitchy-but-I-swear-I’m-not-a-complete-asshole” sort of way.

Now UP your standards to a whole entire week. See how awesomesauce THAT shit is!

Hey, where’s @Buttercup_Smith … you are missed, my darling!

Oh, and @peedin an extremely belated “thank you” for the beautiful card. It delighted me to extend the anti … ci … PAtion.

I missed a PT appointment today. I wrote down 2:00 when it was at 12:00. D’oh!
Other than that, not much new here. I did a load of laundry (towels and throw rugs), walked to the P.O. and the grocery store, took out trash. Dullsville.

This brings back memories from teaching days.
Me to student: Flip-flops? In February? Your toes will freeze!
Student: N-n-no they won’t! I’m w-w-warm!
Me: But they’re blue!
Student: B-B-Blue and warm!

This happened a number of times before a kid tipped me off: When you’re late for school, flip-flops slip right on and require no socks. Maybe your delivery guy sleeps in shorts?

shoe, those are great stories! I’m glad you have some nice customers in there. I hope all of 'em made it home all right.

SuntanLotion, best of luck on the interview, Coppertone! (I love that scent, too. One January night when I was 12 and almost asleep, my sister came in my room, said, “You want to smell summer? OK, keep your eyes closed. Now sniff.” It was Coppertone, and it did smell exactly like summer.

I warmed it up for you.

I hope it’s not Hell-ta.
