(Old) Happy New Year 2024 MMP

The Daughter and Son in law came over Thursday, with their Juvenile Australian Shepard. They headed home yesterday, It’s a 3 hour drive, so we were on our own last night. Very little Kabooming last night. We live in a quiet, semi-rural area now. We stayed up watching a British cop show on Amazon prime until about 2 and didn’t hear much of anything.
We don’t watch parades any more. Too much inane babbling, forced jocularity, and “words from our sponsers”.

BTW, Mom, there’s a new season of Shetland on prime. We watched episode 5(?) last night. There’s probably just one more episode in this year to drop, hopefully next week. Jimmy Perez is gone, but the regulars are otherwise still there, which we like. Unfortunately they introduced a new female DI, who is just irritating.

Today is the first meeting of the procrastination club of 2024. I’m a founding member. We’re off to a bad start.

In a little bit I’ll go cut up some veg for chicken soup. Except I’ll prolly put in gnocchi instead of potatoes. It’s like having little dumplings in your soup. :yum:

Happy New Year everybody. I hope 2024 ends well.

Spiral-cut ham with mustard, Madeira-stewed apricots, cloves, and a brown sugar sauce; potatoes; green peas. Delicious. I then went out for a walk because I’ve committed to two walk/hike groups in 2024 and had to make sure I won’t be embarrassed in front of the electron strangers.

Where in Va? It’s chilly in the DC metro area, so pack accordingly!

Supper was good and I was actually motivated enough to do the dishes! That’s all I accomplished. Chillage continues.

I shared a meme on Facebook showing Adrian Edmondson as ‘Vyvyan’ in The Young Ones and as ‘Captain Peavey’ in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. I bought The Young Ones: Every Stoopid Episode in 2002 when I still lived in L.A. I can’t believe that boxed set costs $146 now! :astonished: I paid $45 for it when I bought it.

Had leftover store-bought roasted chicken & bagged salad for dinner. Plus a couple forks of scratchmade pecan pie.

During the Xmas flail Her Ladyship bought a couple of rotisserie chickens to shred to become the meat component of pot pies that we she fed to family & the kidlet Horde on the 26th.

For reasons I do not understand, only white meat was acceptable in the pot pies. So all the dark meat (you know, the only part of poultry worth eating) had been saved as large components. So I have 4 legs, 4 thighs, 4 wings, and 2 backs to work through. I’m chewing diligently, but it takes a few meals to eat all that. Didn’t used to take more than one meal, but I’m a fogey now.

I also enjoyed the first of the 4 beers I got in that Xmas gift exchange a couple weekends ago. You know, from the microbrewery right near Shoe in northern MI. A very tasty imperial stout it was. Far thicker and zestier than that Guinness stuff. Can recommend. For the beer-ficionados in the crowd, that’s Founders KBS (Kentucky Breakfast Stout) | Total Wine & More. It’s definitely a Breakfast of Champions.

Howdy Y’all! Been a fun day here at da cave. JDD and Partner came over We had Bloody Mary’s and munchies, had a great, if’n I do say so myself, NYD feast, were very silly and watched, of all things, Mama Mia on Netflix. They left around four and we’ve been chillaxin’ ever since. I foresoon a soonish bedtime as no nappage was completed today. Will have to make up for that tomorrow!

Skipped my nap too, and am fancying an early getup tomorrow. so bed is soon. Great minds and all that.

Glad you and pals had a fine time. Was quiet here; too quiet.

People keep mentioning these things called ‘naps’. What’s a ‘naps’?

Ate a large quantity of nachos. Watched Futurama. Time for early bed.

ETA: Naps are for people who don’t take stimulant medication. I kinda miss 'em.

One of life’s great pleasures. I’ve been enjoying them now and again for decades. But with more frequency recently. Her Ladyship, much like a shark, spends all day and half the night swimming, swimming, swimming; unable to sleep no matter how bored or tired. Then sleeps in one big lump.

That’s nice and all, but a nap is like eating dessert an hour or so after a meal; more enjoyable as a standalone activity than it would have been served hard on the heels of the main course. Truly a luxury worth savoring. Best of all it costs nothing and you don’t need to buy special shoes.

Happy New Year!

Fingers crossed for you for the job and for no Covid!

Good for you re: the walking, but what are electron strangers?

My ex and our son and I used to watch The Young Ones on PBS. This was waaaay back in the Eighties. I loved Neil (Nigel Planner). Edgy and fun.

I’m a dark meat fan, too. I don’t get why people prefer white meat. To me it’s just sort of meh.

I’m not a napper. Naps make me groggy and feeling like my clothes got tight and twisty, plus if I nap, I can’t sleep at night. I envy cats.

Happy new Year to YOU! I hope you’re doing well!

I’m all right I suppose.
Hoping to get some things done in the new year. Projects I’ve started before and haven’t finished, for one thing.

I was exposed to the show by a cow-orker in the late-'80s. Once I was exposed, I was hooked. Sadly, no one IRL gets my references. (e.g., ‘Oh, no! The door’s exploded!’)

Loved that show. “I’m so bored, I may as well be listening to Genesis.” Yeah.

I remember that from the mid-80s, but I was sure I watched it on MTV.

I’m pretty sure that’s where I saw it, though I’m not entirely sure if I had MTV at the time.

Yeah. Mostly dry and flavorless. And not even any interesting texture. Boooo-rring!!

Clothes? Clothes? One doesn’t nap in clothes.

Unless one is wasted and then naps wearing even their shoes, and sometimes overcoat & mittens. Not 'cuz they’re cold, just 'cuz it was all too much work to take off after slamming the front door. :stagger:

Good evening to you all. Decided if I was gaining some weight on the first day of the New Year, I’d go whole-hog on it so dinner was a double cheeseburger and large fries at Sonic with a Medium chocolate milkshake, which I mixed with my Pepsi Zero to form something that was almost, but not quite, unlike a Pepsi Float. So well-stuffed and will pay for it tomorrow at the gym. Managed not to watch any of the tackleball games, but the mourning in Ali-bama will be loud and righteous (as in 'we waz robbed!!"} tomorrow. Down to 34F now.

Wheelie, hope your health stays good and that the 3 weeks in Virginia works out. Where about, near DC or down in the middle of the state?

flyboy, how did your cats treat the intrusion of such strangers?

Pilot, enjoy your chicken dinners…and lunches…and snacks…

The mentions of naps made me realize that I haven’t been taking that many recently. Used to be good for 2-3 naps a week, but even with the exercise regime I doubt that I have had more than 1-2 naps the past month. Might be the cooler weather, seems like I nap more in the hotter months, but we’ll see.

Emily!! Nice to see you ariound the MMP. Don’t be a stranger.

Can’t recall ever watching The Young Ones…but then I watch so little TV I sometimes wonder what I’m paying Direct TV for…

Night all, catch up with you tomorrow.

Lewis (as we now know his name): Abbey was not amused. She yowled and hissed when he came up to the fence. With Bellantine, he came over once and kept a reasonably respectable distance. Abbey twitched her tail. Goo was like, ‘I don’t know you. Hello. Keep your distance, but hello.’ When Ballantine came to visit yesterday, I don’t remember where Abbey was. Goo was like, I don’t know you. Hello. Keep your distance, but hello.’ Abbey and Goo were indoors when Lewis’s cat rescue occurred.

It’s hilarious. Maybe moreso for those of us who were ‘hip’ in the '80s.
