Gee, that sounds balmy compared to here. Hubs wanted a Belgian waffle carryout as he can’t eat tomorrow after 4am (going in to have the Trifusion catheter inserted in his chest) and I was the designated pickup person. It was 30* and windy. But I was dressed appropriately so only felt slightly cool, except for my face which was uncovered.

The day was taken up with 1.25 hrs of WFH, laundry (so Hubs can have clean robe, jammie bottoms, undies, socks for the hospital), washing dishes, workout on NuStep, watching Rafa!!! on Tennis Channel, filtering water, BLT for lunch, bacon and sunny side up for Hubs.

I think an unspoken resolution of mumpers is to post more. It’s only 6pm on Tuesday and this will be post #121.
.

Finally sleeping at My apartment for the first time in 2 months. Its warm, free heat!
Got some groceries that I don’t have to share- spaghetti, dorito salad, o.j., tapioca.
Got some good library books.
Going to visit my neighbor/friend I’ve neglected.

You ever hear of bagna cauda? It’s a real food item, not something I made up, it comes from North Italy and is a hot oil dip. Butter and olive oil are gently warmed together and then finely minced garlic is thrown in to the oils. Just before it comes off of the fire anchovy filets are stirred in and when they break up you can dip bread chunks or crisp veggies in it. A doctor in a TV show once said “I can feel my arteries hardening just being in the same room with it/” I love it. If you let it cool it sets up a little and can be spread over bread and toasted in the oven.

Forgot to mention, over in Thread Games Rebo has a new Feud going, for New Years. Check it out

Yipes!

I logged into my credit union to ensure the mortgage payment went through. I thought I’d have $78. I had zero dollars. :astonished: It turns out I made two errors. The first one was that I wrote ‘08’ instead of ‘80’ on one balance so I actually should have had $150. The other error was that I’d paid the ($190) electricity bill from my checking account, when I’d thought I was paying it with a credit card. Hence, the shortage. Fortunately the CU covered the $43 shortfall through my signature loan that I’ve never used. So the mystery was solved. I transferred five hectobucks from my savings account just to be sure. I’ve been a member of this CU since I was a teenager, and I’ve never overdrawn; so it was a bit of a shock.

The Spousal Unit saw me on the phone and thought she should check one of her credit card balances. Turns out someone had made two charges of $558 each on the 5th and 7th of December. She’s on hold now, waiting to get that sorted out.

A friend came over this morning and stayed for 5 hours. We had a lot of catching up to do.

I’m really enjoying the Echo devices. This morning I woke up before six and started ruminating about zebra mussels. Can an infestation ever be overcome? The lake by the capital building here has been infested for years.) Alexa said no.

I’m going to talk to the manager on Thursday about the leases. They’ve increased rent by quite a bit, and I’m not sure if that includes water, sewer, and trash. I’m so envious of people who own homes and have low mortgages or have paid them off. I’d be in that group if I’d stayed married. Actually, I’d probably be wearing a jacket with very long sleeves that tied behind my back. Counting my blessings in 3…2…1…

BooFae, Red, et al, I’m so sorry you’re under the weather. Maybe it’s better to be sick in January than in July? Hope the germs crawl away quickly and en masse. Send 'em to some deserving jerk.

MetalMouse, that sounds like a noisy, hellacious repair, but I think you’re wise to do it all at once. Was the original installation done shoddily, or have the pipes deteriorated over time?

That’s why I started drinking diet soda years ago–not that that’s healthy, either. Now full-sugar soda tastes syrupy to me.

CatGlove, thanks for the puppy video sites. Sometimes we all need to watch puppies. Speaking of which, doggio, any news on that front, or are dogs stilli passing around the crud?

Dorito salad? I’m intrigued.

Baker, you have me craving garlicky butter and olive oil.

I learned about it on Babylon 5. It was Dr. Franklin who made the comment about his arteries.

Howdy Y’all! OYKW says thanks for all the bday wishes. I told him y’all are an OK bunch of strangers and as far as I could tell not axe murderers. I also told him I have met a few of y’all along the way and didn’t get axe murdered. He’s glad nobody axe murdered me. Instead of his brunch, he decided he wanted to go to Sonny’s cause he got the text about the free sammich deal for his bday which is either a pulled or sliced poke sammich, a side, and a drink. So we called JDD and Partner and told them to meet us there. I got the sammich deal and OYKW got baby back ribs. I guess Sonny’s does not care who actually eats the freebie cause they made good money on the ribs. Anywho, we did that and then came back to da cave for ice cream cake and champagne. I am champagned out now as I’ve had more in the past week than I think I had all of last year. So 'twas a nice bday for OYKW. Oh, and laundry got done.

Spice happy doperversary!

Hope all you sick ones are over whatever you have soonest.

Hey, thank you! I want to say, “it doesn’t feel like it’s been seventeen years,” but it does, actually. I’m old. I’ve been on the Dope approximately as long as I’ve been married, and that is a long time.

I just want to share (to someone) that I’ve been working on a very important scene in my novel for a few weeks now. I just kept writing it and rewriting it over vacation because it wasn’t quite there. Today, I nailed it! It’s rare that I finish a scene and feel like doing a victory dance. But man, that scene is on. People often don’t understand how hard it is to write good, thoughtful romance. I’m a smart person, and it stumps me regularly.

For me it’s been 24 years, a third of my life, now that I stope to think of it. I am a 99’r.

I just don’t know how to quit you!

Sobs

Dorito salad- put doritos into bowl. Crush with knuckles. Add shredded cheese, and tomatos. Coat with Kraft Zesty italian dressing. Let sit a half hour for doritos to absorb dressing. Eat.
One may add lettuce, sour cream and meat if one wishes.

A really slow day, smalls was done by 0500, I was out by 7. But I got a Manhattan and a cat, so I got that going for me.

 :birthday: :champagne: HAPPY BIRTHDAY OYKW!!! :champagne: :birthday::partying_face:

MetalMouse, have you considered living a Medieval peasant hut? I wouldn’t be any less inconvenient, and might be cheaper in the long run.

Dr. Franklin, Babylon 5.
Also:
“No boom today. Boom tomorrow, there’s always a boom tomorrow.”

I’ve only been here 23 years, so I’m, a N00b here.

You, my dear, talk pretty brave for someone two states away… :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Amazingly, Roxy went right to sleep. Here’s hoping she sleeps thru the night and doesn’t scare the crap outta me in the middle of the night.

I need a long sleep.

I’m a little OCD when it comes to numbers so I had to figure this out. On March 12, 2024 I will have been a Doper for 35% of my life. That’s 8846 days out of 25274.

Yes, I am strange, why do you ask?

I rounded up for my age. 41% of my life.

nellie, the plumbing people told me that a number of houses on this street are experiencing the same type of problems now, they were all built within a year or two of each other so I suspect the contractor may have used a cheaper brand of piping, but no way to prove it and he left the business of house-building some time ago, so…

One of my favorite lines from a most memorable character (Susan Ivonova played by Claudia Christian). She had some of the best ones, didn’t she?

Just looked, in February I’ll celebrate my 20th year as a member, but it wasn’t until 6-7 years ago (IIRC) that I started posting regularly here.

Got my exercising done, will have to see about swimmng tomorrow (the pool heater was broken this weekend, a lady who also swims there said on Facebook that the water temp was down to 64F today).

Oopsie, glad you had a great time with your friends. And nice that you can talk frankly about your job and hopes for the future with them. And this is a new and improved leak, so nobody is at fault.

FCM, glad to hear Roxy is fine and that MIL is getting out of the hospital.

SuntanLotion, it’s always nice to be in a place you’re comfrotable with. But free heat? How do you manage that?

Flyboy, yeah, I have to watch for Whoops! on my accounts too, Can move money on-line between savings and checking, so I should be covered if i goof up. Hope the credit card company does the right thing quickly for your wife; that’s why I check my two cards at least once weekly.

nellie, hope the leases include the utilities; I’ve been thinking about an apartment sometime in the future, probably once I get past 75, but it has it’s problems too, I guess.

Spice_Weasel, glad the scene came out the way you wanted. Sometimes we have to keep hacking away at something until it finally works. Think it was Edison that said something about 10% inspiration and 90% perspiration.

I not sure the plumbing fixtures would meet my requirements…

OK, that’s all for now. Will be heading off to bed here in a little bit. See y’all on Hump Day.
