Would that be with a knife? A small ladle? A caulk gun?? I’d hate to do it wrong!
As for the cake cult - DUH! I’m in!! But I will pass on any that have coconut - it’s a textural thing.
I looked out when letting Higgs into the yard for her morning constitutional. We’ve got maybe an inch of snow - probably had a bit more since there’s been freezing rain for a few hours and that tends to beat down the snow. Schools have a 2-hour delay this morning - I expect some of the roads will be slippery, plus the temp is hovering around freezing, not that it’ll get much warmer today.
But the precip is about done, which bodes well for my mom and sister - their flight hits DC around 11 tonight. I think my other sister’s husband will be picking them up - they’ll be lucky to get home before 1, but I know they’ll be glad regardless. Oh, and Mom fully intends to keep cruising…
As for our trip, I’ll do laundry today, after which we’ll start packing. Since we’re booked Premium Economy, we get 2 bags each, tho I think we’ll just be taking 3 total, plus carry-ons. I saw that the overweight bag fee is $100/bag - YOIKS!! We will pack accordingly.
Meanwhile, meal planning is, um, interesting. I’m trying to use up as much in the fridge as I can without producing leftovers. There’s one more egg - that will be tomorrow’s breakfast - and 2 oranges - snacks tonight and tomorrow night. The lunch meat will go into the freezer before we leave, but the celery will have to be tossed. I’m sure we’ll miss something, and I’m already bracing for a major grocery shop when we return.
Knife, usually, unless you’re doing it from a distance in which case a tabletop trebuchet may be appropriate The correct way is butter, then jam, then clotted cream. Anything else is heresy!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN I was a slugabed until seven-fifteen this mornin’. ‘Tis 49 Amurrkin out with light rain, which will continue until the afternoon. The temp now is also the high for the day. Outside of righteous indignation directed toward the doc’s office, today will be a day of sloth, general overall uselessness, nappage, day drinkin’ and assorted other idleness. Sup shall be boxed lasagna (don’t judge!), sallit and cheesey garlic bread.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Annual vision checkup today, so I have to venture out in the chill. -3F this morning, but at least we’re not Chicken, AK where the high yesterday was -40F. I often forget just how miserable interior Alaska can be.
We get our monthly Table 22 delivery today from a local restaurant. Looking forward to some excellent dinner.
Major fuck-up: I neglected to turn off the space heater last night before bed. A potentially dangerous thing to do. The building heating system is inadequate to temperatures this cold, so we supplement it with this small heater at times. At least it wasn’t near anything flammable. Gotta be more diligent.
Just a variation, wholly welcomed. Like Traditional Worship Sunday at 9am, Contemporary Service Saturday at 5:30pm.
All are welcome, please enrich us with your culture.and having scones to indulge in would be unexpectedly joyous~bring ‘em on early and often. Good scones are hard to find in my neck of the woods but in my younger days I made very nice ones at home.
Thanks to both of you~I asked my library to order it and they agreed, so I’ll get it first when it comes in.
I read the Dope hours a day~I’ll keep my eyes out for any sign or mention of her and I’ll let you know right away. We’re nice here, dammit! and Mumpers will help if we can.
I’ll snarf up your coconut and you can have my raisins , abominable, nasty things. Figs and prunes are fine, just please deliver me from raisins.
Johnny Cash, in that beautiful smoky voice of his, sang a line about putting on “my cleanest dirty shirt” and it’s such a raw, honest moment in an already very heartbreaking song.
I cam guess from context clues what “naff off” means, but I don’t think I’ve encountered that particular phrase before.
I think it’s wonderful!
Plus, I can probably get away with saying it myself at work and not get fussed at for bad language.
There’s an ad floating around the Interwebz for a t-shirt that says, “Oatmeal raisin cookies are why I have trust issues” and I think about that saying more than I probably should.
Count me in as an associate, but, like Mooooom, no coconut please.
Morning all!
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and readying myself for another day of sloth. It was a brisk 9F when I walked Nelson this morning, one of the coldest days in my nearly 30 years in middle Tennessee.
FCM, glad to hear she’s been sprung - enjoy yourself and hopefully rest easier while you also enjoy the “Pink Ones.”
Today is new oven day. It was supposed to be the first day of the new semester for the kids, but with the negative wind chill overnight and this morning, school was called off. When the kids were tiny I remember getting terribly miffed, then it occurred to me that a) engines don’t work well in cold weather, especially engines already prone to breakage and b) my kids have a far shorter walk to the bus stop than most, so are less likely to have to wait in sub-zero weather and I’m a jackass for expecting other children to do so. Plus, now they get to sleep in, which is nice.
Of course, I was supposed to go into the office today and was planning to let the husband unit deal with the new oven installation, but 'twas not to be. We have a ridiculously steep driveway and, even though it’s possible to get the car up said driveway, it’s probably going to take nearly as long as my commute to do so. Thursday is new heater day (thank goodness!!). I keep hearing the sound of a cash register in the background - it must be the sound of money trickling out of my pockets.
FCD is on my case about taking warm clothes. The only places we’ll be debarking will have temps in the mid-50s, which tells me I should be fine dressing as I have been here at home. It’ll be hovering around freezing as we cruise by Antarctica, but we won’t be getting off the ship, so if I do go out on deck, it’s just a few steps to get indoors again.
Good morning. I’ve had intense anxiety about work the last few days - it’s just a lot going on - state reporting due at the end of the month, a lengthy application for our largest ongoing funder due at the same time, organizing the homeless Point in Time count which got pushed off on me by a colleague, trying to learn a new database in time for state reporting, and a grant report the funder won’t get around to posting (it’s now two days past due, but at least it’s on them.) Also a scheduled meeting this week with said major funder to discuss lengthy application even though I have some very important appointments outside of work, so I’m just crossing my fingers that meeting doesn’t interfere with my other appointments.
Fortunately I got an hour of email-sorting done this morning heading into my therapy appointment, so I am marginally less panicked.
I’m anticipating post-COVID malaise about 2pm or 3pm and hopefully when it strikes today I’ll be ready for it. I plan to ingest a little bit of sugar if necessary - I’m sure trying to go cold turkey hasn’t helped. So I’m switching to a more gradual approach.
As someone with no parents/in-laws to lean on in a pinch, bless you for being an involved grandparent.
I use a space heater in my ‘office’ space where I spend the most time, and always shut it off and unplug it when I leave; it’s probably quite safe, the heating goes off if it is upset or falls over and has a screen in front, but still…
Good morning all. It was 8F when I got up this morning, is now 12F heading for a balmy 22F for the day. Cold is due to last through tomorrow and with the roads probably extra-icy today sloth is probably going to be the major activity for me. Was supposed to have a donation picked up by Purple Heart but I doubt that is going to happen.
One curious note; all the neighbors have snow on their lawns except me. My best conclusion is that I have a Tru-Green treatment done just before the weather moved in and that the chemicals they doused the yard with have some magic anti-snow protection. Or maybe there is a super-secret underground base under my house…
Have read all but not quite comprehending yet this morning, so yeas, boos, hugs and hopes as required. Need to break fast and then be about…doing nothing.
Turns out we weren’t as careless as I thought. I’m always the first one up and the place is pretty chilly in the morning. Today, the wife got up to use the bathroom and turned the heater on so I wouldn’t get up to a cold living room. She likes me!
Raw and honest indeed. No doubt why The Man In Black and Willie are two of my favorite singers~singing songs of my life. “City of New Orleans” and “Mama, Don’t Let Your Boys Grow Up To Be Cowboys” among others.
Best job I’ve ever had! Only problem is getting enough hours.
To my daughter’s everlasting credit, they don’t only invite me over when they need childcare, snow day or sick day coverage, every Sunday is my sacred play day with the grandkidlets from 12:30pm through bedtime. Since I live alone, Sunday is the best day of the week. I come home grubby with snot+ on my shirt but well loved and cuddled.
