I do hope that you get to enjoy some time with the boat though.
Happy birthday JBats! It’s been good having you around the dope and good on you for having recognized that a change was needed ten years ago.
Living alone, I’ve done tub mats for years. Much better than those dumb stick on skid proof decals. I just toss them in with the towels when I do laundry.
The ratty towels will go to the shelter once I’ve unpacked. Promise.
The Spousal Unit’s Boil-In-Bag peanuts (2 bags) arrived. I was going to give them to her Friday, but I gave them to her tonight. She’s excited to make them. It takes 12 hours in the slow cooker though.
She’s made reservations for 16:30 on Friday for Chuckanut Manor. Yes, it’s early. But she likes to eat early, and I know what’s good for me.
The guy from Sasquatch tamped down the mole hills after he planted the traps. We went out a little bit ago, and one of the tamped-down holes had been re-dug.
My keys, change and wallet, and my phone if it isn’t plugged in, just stay in my pockets when I take my jeans off and set them on the chair. If I’m changing to a different pair of jeans the next day – not guaranteed – they get transferred directly from one pair to the next, along with my belt.
Interesting – Wiki says both of those were opened after 2000. I wonder which one we did visit.
I was wrong. She made reservations at The Oyster Bar (Bow, WA). But she discovered they don’t have cocktails. So we’re going to Chuckanut Manor after all.
I give myself a ‘pat-down’ before going out: Keys, keys, wallet, watch, phone, pocket knife. Dad’s checklist was ‘Hat, coat, cigarettes and lighter, liberty, ID card…’ (I presume his ‘hat’ was his cover.)
I napped. There was rain and storms. I dreamed that I was at a farm, and a volcano opened up, so everybody moved away. 100 yards. The the authorities moved everybody a couple of miles up the road, so they went back a different road to a farm 200 yards away from the volcano. This feels like a metaphorical dream for current events.
I don’t remember the last time I went to a mall.
Okay, Izzy’s first weekend with us is over! She’s met some more of our friends (all adults, FWIW), gotten her SIM card, gotten some American jeans and shirts, and had some real blowout meals with us. Yesterday (Sunday), I made waffles for breakfast, then we had steak and corn on the cob (with honey butter that I made) and cherry pie for dinner.
She’s an exercise fiend. Yesterday she spent two hours using our exercise equipment. Which is having the effect of shaming me into spending more time on it myself, and not just on low speed with a book in one hand, either.
I’ve been driving her around some, as has Mr. Rilch, and I’m getting more confident in my ability to find unfamiliar places. As I said to her this afternoon, her being here is a good thing, because it forces me to stop saying, “I can’t drive THERE!” and instead follow directions like an adult.
I also had the opportunity, in the car today, to tell her, “My husband and his friends have one way of looking at Trump, and other people have another. I can tell you how he got elected the first time ::snip:: But I don’t understand how he got elected again last year, so I can’t tell you that!” She also filled me in a bit on why Berlusconi was so hated.
Saturday, we had movie night and watched Superman (1978). She’d never seen it before. Oh, and Mr. Rilch lightly reprimanded her for scrolling on her phone. She seemed okay with that, and he claims he saw her wiping away a tear when Lois died.

Happy birthday, Jack Batty!

Okay, dreams. I have/had a recurring dream: the Pool Dream. Premise is, I’m on a property that includes a palatial in-ground pool and patio. It’s lined with blue tiles, so the water looks extra blue. It’s heated, it has stairs and a slide and a center island, and the patio has lounge chairs and a heater and big fluffy towels…Only problem is, I can’t get to it. It’s at the bottom of a hill, and sometimes I can’t find the path to it, and the ground on either side is full of thorny plants. Or I can get to the gate, in the unclimbable iron fence, but it’s locked and I don’t have a key. Or once, I got inside the enclosure, only to find multiple dead animals in the water. The one obstacle that doesn’t happen is not having a swimsuit. I’m always wearing shorts and a t-shirt that won’t be damaged if they get wet. Anyway, when I say, “I had the Pool Dream last night,” Mr. Rilch knows to ask, “So what are you anxious about?”
Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 20c/68f with a predicted high of 30c/85f and mostly cloudy. Weather app says “It could be fucking warmer outside but you could also have more fucking alligators in your kitchen. Count your blessings.” I think I’d prefer alligators to heat!
Happy birthday, J-Bats! and congrats on your milestones!
Can’t argue with that! I did find Cherry sitting on my desk yesterday evening, but she’s no help when it comes to work

It’s a good start for you, I know it can be hard to simply say no to your mum’s requests but she has three other people with her who are more than capable of doing that job. Good luck finding those big girl panties!
Sounds like you had a load of unfounded fears and things are turning out well!
Yesterday was a busy irk day and I logged off an hour later than I should have done. Cats got fed and fussed, I went round the house collecting up all the rubbish and put it in the biiiiiig bin before hauling that out to the kerb for this morning’s collection. I’ve been out already to haul the biiiiig bin back to where it lives for the rest of the time.
I’ve got a minion meeting this morning where I need to talk about a referral to Occupational Health as my minion has a recent ADHD diagnosis and is looking for some adjustments which we can probably accommodate but it is based on our hybrid working policy which isn’t actually part of our official contracts so it has to be done in a different way. He also wants some other stuff to help him with his work, so I want to do the most comprehensive OH referral that I can, so that he can throw it all at them. He’s also looking for a doc’s referral for autism assessment and I want that in there as well so we can get the most out of an OH appointment.
Other than that, it’s going to be stonkingly hot, and I don’t like it.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 75 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 89 with rain off and on all day. I shall go over to the church house this mornin’ to meet with Priest and other verger about some upcomin’ stuff. Candle duty will be taken care of since I will be there. Also have to remember to take my cassock and surplice with me as I brought them home with me Sunday. They were in need of a wash. Today is also laundry day. Joy. OYKW will deal with some of that while I am gone. RDOS inactivities will take up the rest of the day. Sup will be nuked up leftovers from last night’s sup.
Sticky_Buns Annie does add a certain je ne sais quoi to your desk.
JBats a belated happy birthday, happy doperversary, and happy sobriety anniversary to you!
Lily happy house sprucin’ up. I can’t imagine that many throw pillows. I think we have a grand total of maybe six.
Frumious seems like things are off to a great start with Izzy.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then I must purtify and don attire acceptable to be seen in. This means a good pullover shirt, the shorts that are acceptable to wear in public and the non-ratty sneaks.
What an awful night - not dreams… coughs. Sometime shortly after midnight, it started and it continued on and off til 2-ish. I’d doze, then wake up trying to cough a lung up. Cough drop didn’t help. Sip of water didn’t help. Thinking happy thoughts didn’t help. So I’m feeling really raggedy this morning. Just the day I don’t need this.
I’m supposed to wrangle the grands thru suppertime while Daughter attends her Dragon Boat practice (the race is Saturday.) I just hope it doesn’t run late - I don’t want to be driving home in the dark.
I need to talk to FCD again about the supports for our new water lines. He made the holes just .015 bigger than the tubing. I need to ask him how he plans to get them installed perfectly aligned so the tubing will slide thru easily when we install it, because we won’t have access to some of the supports after the fuel tanks go in. The biggest problem is that he was a toolmaker way back when and .015” could make for a sloppy fit, especially with moving parts. He can’t seem to break himself from that mindset. I foresee an argument, much frustration, and a potential “I told you so” up ahead.
Other than that, we’re returning to more typical summer temps, so it’ll be too hot to be working without a/c. Yeah, I’ve got that to look forward to. Dammit. How much longer till the damned leaves start falling??
