Hard telling. The wife went down and got them to knock off a percentage point. I know that they’re trying to hire a second maintenance guy, and they had to put about $20K into getting the boiler to function properly. The main maintenance guy talked management into buying programmed maintenance software, which they’ve never had.
Some good news: when the wife was doing the taxes she somehow paid the bill twice, much to my horror. Inexplicably, the IRS software caught the $9K error and we got the refund check today.
Speaking of bills, I got a scare - our internet provider sent an email to my email account addressed to someone named Peter mentioning a $414 charge. It wasn’t till I was on the phone with the agent that I saw the account number was different from mine, and when I checked my VISA, there was no charge. So somehow, this Peter person got my email attached to his account. Anyway, it’s straightened out, and I asked Breezeline to take my email off Peter’s account.
Sun is shining. My pulse is returning to normal. I rollsucked up enough cat hair to build 2 more cats. I think I’ve earned some chillage.
Its still rainy but I want the church meal ( Thursdays the cook is a good one).
The place called back and said the laundry position was filled ( I am not meant to launder) but there was a p/t housekeeping they will talk to me about.
Afternoon all. Mowage is completed (5 big bags of clippings), along with picking up some branches and other detritus from the storm. I just looked at the map for the Level 2 Tornado (only 125mph winds) and it missed my house by about 1 block. Houses around me lost trees and shingles and I imagine some fencing while I got off pretty much scot-free. The city has been around picking up all the leafage and tree branches and I’m just glad it gave me a near-pass.
After fasting and mowing, I decided a second breakfast was in order so had some pancakes (frozen) and bacon for a mid-day meal, may get to the gym later today but not in any rush. Weather is quite pleasant, 82F and not a drop of rain in the sky.
Coppertone, talk about a run of bad luck; hope the food place works out. And sounds like most all MMP’ers had a rainy May.
FCM, hope FCD doesn’t go out and just get a dog like before; that could cause a certain amount of …frostiness…in your relationship. And your ISP sounds…confused.
Cookie, nothing like a 9-grand check to make the day complete!
I got good news today, the museum now has me on until the end of the year. Still not a permanent position, but I do understand that what with…waves arms around at the current state of the state. But six months added on to a gig ain’t bad.
And I’m getting asked to come to more meetings about future projects. Plus, they really do need an in-house carpenter, I’m feeling that they will eventually offer a permanent position, once shit settles down.
When I was having shoulder problems, I ordered one of those fasten-in-front old lady bras. Everything fit except the shoulders. They were wide enough for an NFL linebacker to wear over his shoulder pads.
Have you considered fostering. The shelter or rescue org foots the vet bills and you can set it up to not have fosters when you want to travel.
Yay!
Well, the MRI showed that I’ll have to have a spinal injection next week. He extended my time off irk until 19 June.
I did the application for SSDI (4 hours!) and now, I’m slated for my first social security check (reduced bennies for now until a disability claim is reviewed) on 20 June. I have an appointment on 03 June at the SS office. I’ll call tomorrow for an appointment with the disability attorney.
Sis and I will be making many trips to the convenience center while she’s here. There’s a Goodwill truck there too for those donations. I need to go online to see where the nearest Books for Soldiers drop box is. I’ll be paring my hard copy books down once again this move, so want a good home for the ones that I have. It’s also time to start whittling down my supply stash so’s I don’t have to get rid of a lot before moving. I foresee lower grocery bills for a while.
Howdy Y’all! The funeral was well attended and a great celebration of life for Joan. Ed (her husband) gave the eulogy and did a fantastic job. A lot of it was funny cause Ed is a funny guy, not at all what most folk think of a career military officer, but he is indeed funny. Joan was funny as well, so it was most appropriate. A former Rector (retired) gave the homily. It was good, but a tad long IMO. The Eucharist went on for a while due to attendance and most people takin’ Communion. I felt like I had walked five miles back and forth with the chalice. Her cremains were taken to the cemetery afterwards. Much to my surprise, most people came back for the reception. There was plenty of food which was nice. We finally left around three p.m. Comfies were changed into and a short nap was achieved. Neither of us has wanted anything to eat cause of the good eats at the reception.
Now it’s time for Netflix and chill. Band of Brothers is really good! Maybe some chips and onion dip will be munched upon. I made some dip due to a gnawin’ and a cravin’.
swampy Thanks for the tip one the dip. I was wondering what to make to go alongside the pork chop. I think chips n dip plus a little salad. Gotta be slightly healthy.
He promises that he won’t. And he’s said that there are times when he doesn’t want one either, realizing all that’s involved, and recognizing how much of it I did with all our previous dogs. And cats. Yeah…
Very positive news - perhaps they’re buying time till they can play with the budget?
I mentioned that shortly after we had Higgs put down, but he wasn’t interested. Maybe I’ll bring it up again.
FCD really enjoyed that series. I saw bits and pieces and it seemed to be well made, but not my preferred genre.
We got a little spurt of rain, but theoretically that’s it till Moanday. So they say.
The soup I made was especially good - I think due to adding the pot roast broth to the mix. I have 3 freezer bags for future meals. So a successful pot of soup.
Time now for my evening apple-n-peanut-butter. And meds.
He knows that you will do it if only to save FCD the bother and upset. At least he’s still kicking
I agree, you are much better looking than Kid Rock…and I love your hat.
I was once having a teenager spat with one of my sisters that degraded to “Mom likes you better cause she lets you do X and I couldn’t…” when my sister proclaimed “I know mom likes you better, she gave you all the boobs!”
Yeah, not much you can say in reply to that sort of silliness
Oh lovely…and a rent increase on top of it is just the cherry! I hope they use the extra rent to pay for the maintenance guy to hire a helper, it sounds like he can’t keep up by himself.
You are such a great cat-slave, so thoughtful and loving.
Today was mowing day in da hood. Hubs, Harry, the guy across the street and the guy on the other side of Harry’s brother’s place were all out there most of the day. Jolene is exhausted, she takes her supervising responsibilities seriously and they kept her running from window to room all afternoon.
There are so many dogs in rescues that need to be walked and petted. Volunteering is good for the soul and good for the dogs. Hubs still walks dogs almost every day and talks about the old dogs on a regular basis. Hospice critters don’t take a lot of attention, they already have their house manners deeply ingrained, and they don’t live that long.
You’re gonna need a bigger shovel.
Wow, I’m glad you got missed. We’ve been seeing a lot of trees and branches on the ground as well. Now they are mostly cut into chunks on the side of the road for people to pick up and take home. A lot of folks out here have wood burning stoves and they will pick up the cut wood and save the county money to haul it away.
Well, that is wonderful news! Once they get used to having you around, they certainly aren’t going to let you go without a fight. The courts just ruled against trump gutting the Dept of Education so hopefully museums will start getting funded again.
Hubs bike club used to support the Wounded Warrior Barracks and we heard many nice words about how much books and DVD’s were prized with dibs being called over certain titles and authors.
I hope it helps. I also hope they use a topical numbing salve first, I’ve heard that spine injections can be rather ouchie.
Indeed.
But it sounds like you have a good plan and support system in place. I hope it goes as smoothly as a move can.
That sounds like a lovely tribute, I’m glad you were there for Ed.
So, it was cold all day, but it didn’t rain so much mowing happened. I did not participate but I did enjoy the smell. The Martin birds also like it when mowing has happened, it stirs up the bugs and grubs they want to feed their chicks. They can’t get into our soffit anymore, but they can and have made several nests in the moldering spite house’s soffit as well as Harry’s Martin house.
Harry’s positive that we have Flying Squirrel pups in one of the houses he put up (he’s got a camera in there but no light source except the door and I can’t see what they are seeing in the videos). I made up a batch of Flying Squirrel butter (acorns, peanuts, sunflower seeds and some dried apple) and we smeared on likely trees (the ones that had gnawed sections of bark).
Din was ham, cornbread and cauliflower. I chopped up the entire head of cauliflower, steam blanched it and put most on a cookie sheet to freeze and left the rest in the steamer to finish cooking for dinner.
The whole house smells like burnt cauliflower and I just do not get it. The cauliflower tasted just fine, fresh as well as cooked. Nothing got burnt and there was plenty of water in the pan after I was done cooking so I do not understand.
Well, to be fair, this was a city-scheduled shutoff to work on the nearby street upgrades. It takes forever for the boiler to recover, as it’s a huge piece of equipment. The shutoff went from 11pm to 0600, which meant that the boiler completely cooled down.
My dad does dog walking at the local shelter. I it’s his favorite of all the volunteer stuff he does now that he’s an RDOS. Mowing the law at the church, being on the board at the non-profit Old Folks home, I don’t know what all else, he’s got more energy than me.
We went out to dinner down the beach again instead of going for Mexican food, because SWMBO wanted to talk to the proprietor about the seagull. On the other hand, she paid.
I used the never-used ‘massage’ setting in the shower today. My next is feeing a little better.
We’re going to a protest in Bellingham Saturday, then we’re planning on going to a tiki bar for drinx.
Rent increases: A couple weeks ago was the 1 year anniversary of my moving in here. It was a 15-month lease, so coming up for renewal soon. The increase for the next term is about 3%. Less than I feared.
Yaay!! Yeah, those settings may be a bit much for routine body cleaning, but when you’re wrenched something they’re really handy.
My shoulder is still goofed up, but now it’s mildly goofed up, not majorly goofed up. Here’s hoping you get a similar result on your neck.
Late night final here (only 9:30pm but that is late enough…). Got to the gym after dinner and am now enjoying a little snack before bedtime. 70F now and going to 59F tonight, so should be good sleeping weather. But there is a 50% chance of rain for the next 5-6 days so guess getting my lawn mown today was a wise decision.
Van Go, that’s good news, hope they can make it even more secure for you before that time gets short.
red, the words ‘spinal injection’ really do not sound good together, but hope it does give you relief. And moving is an exercise in whittlin’.
JtC, I may just see about volunteering at a shelter; I am too old and set in my ways to own or even foster a pet but something like Hubs does…and I love that there is something called Flying Squirrel butter.
flyboy, happy protesting and drinking! And good news on the upcoming Mortgage Freedom Day.
And now it is closing in on 10pm and will shortly retire to work a little more on puzzles before going lights out. Catch y’all tomorrow.
