Not looking forward to tomorrow’s commute. I fear that the city is re-paving an important stretch of road. Like half the town uses that road important. Granted, it needs it, but perhaps do it before school is in session and the colleges double the population.
I cleaned, dusted and vacuumed. I’ve got the new PC up, running, and mostly got the data transferred.
I still have all my dog stuff, just in case the right mutt shows up.
< hums Pinky And The Brain theme song >
But I too know the joy of “holding stuff just for a bit”
Had a nice visit with my daughter and her youngest (17) son. Took them to lunch. My wife was not feeling well, so stayed in the bedroom. I told my grandson to go ahead and go through all of the tools I have stored at my daughter’s place and to either take them or sell them. Also gave him some power tools that I had stored in the garage to do with as he wishes. It’s pointless to hang on to any of it, other than one cordless drill that still comes in handy once in awhile.
I baked, not pumpkin muffins (I really didn’t want to deal with the leftover pumpkin), but apple - cranberry - pecan ones. I mitigated some of the carbs by using Splenda ™ and mixing whole wheat flour with AP. They were good and 11 of them went in the freezer.
I hit Aldi before the church crowd got there for Nelson treats, cheese and a couple of other things. After, I sorted some more photos. I fixed a poke steak with fried potatoes / onions and a salad for supper. I tried some of the Szechuan chili powder from the Chinese grocery on the poke. It was fruity with a kick, so suited it well.
For this evening’s chillage, I’ll work on some valentine’s cards.
Howdy Y’all! We deheathenated and had a great first Sunday brunch. Lot (for us) of folks in church and at brunch. We did not unload the yahd sale stuff because of the amount of people in the parish hall which included a gaggle of crumb snatchers runnin’ around. We’ll do that in the mornin’ and then be bears who brunch as Eggs Up is just up the road from the church house. Any excuse to have brunch.
Today we went to Hillcrest Bellingham Church, in Ferndale. The auditorium is as large as the one at the Lutheran church. The church seems to be in the same vein as the Christian Fellowship we attended for a year. The congregation was larger and younger, and the band was better. TBH, I like the Lutheran church better. It has structure. But I don’t get a say. Anyway, they support immigrants and have a ‘small group’ (apparently, ‘small groups’ are a thing) for helping immigrants. There was a lunch afterward to welcome new people. I guess we picked the right Sunday. There was pulled pork, pulled chicken, and coleslaw. There, but off my menu, were beans, buns (regular, and gluten-free), and some sort of berry cobbler (regular, and gluten-free) with whipped cream.
I made burgers on the barbie for dinner. I had cheese on mine, and made a sandwich with lettuce and dill pickles. The Spousal Unit had a bare burger onna plate.
Smoked chix legs fer dinner. Twas good. The pup had a good time at the park today. Not quite as much fun as yesterday, nobody wanted to chase.
Checks in briefly before heading off to bed.
I didn’t get arrested and I only got one hole dug.
It hasn’t rained for almost a week and the dirt was rock hard so I put the hose on the area I wanted to dig and just barely turned it on. An hour later, I realized that the water pressure had dropped, so there was no water going into the spot I wanted to dig up. I turned the hose up enough to know that it would keep running and stitched for an hour, then turned the hose off and girded my loins (amongst other things) and went off to the capital.
The weather was nice, the skeeters were out in force and things aren’t getting any more civil. I’ve given up my rollator because I feel safer with cane. The nice capital guard told me that the governor is thinking about banning protests in support of ICE.
When I got home, I started rage digging and then hit a cable.
Boring BG: There is a satellite dish by the back fence. We will never use it and I know that Hubs won’t do anything about it, cause he was never willing to deal with the ones in our last homes and he’s much older now. So, that’s where I’m planting my snowball bushes. They should get big enough to cover the ugly thing.
When I hit the cable, I knew it was just the dish wires, nothing electrical so I asked Hubs where the big dykes were.
Then we had to fucking squabble about cutting a cable running from the dish to the house because I hadn’t gotten the yard blue staked or whatever it is called in WV.
Finally I rage dug the other hole and blew my hip. The poor bushes are still in their little pots and might stay there tomorrow if my hip doesn’t recover overnight.
In better news, I dug around in my potato grow bag and felt a small potato! So, my plan is to plant one bush tomorrow morning, then plant the garlic (BIG cloves, almost two inches each). While waiting for someone to come out and tell me that its OK to cut our satellite cords, I will dump the potato bag into a bin and find my bounty. I’m hoping to have turned one seed potato into at least half a dozen potatoes.
Dinner was Poke Loin with potatoes with olive oil, salt, and cheese and squash with tomatoes and Calabrian chilies. and a Wisconsin Old Fashioned.

And a late night final for this week, I did make it to the gym and sweated some, was going to enjoy the whirlpool at the end but it was broken so sweated some more in the sauna and came home to perform slothage, which I have done most admirably for the past 4-5 hours. Have done some car research and think I’ll be stopping by my Hyundai dealer around Tuesday for some conversations that might lead..somewhere.
FCM, don’t know if it’s the exercise or not but I find my need for nappage has gone way down lately, perhaps being more active helps, but I can’t imagine being more active that you already are…
VanGo, commuting is one of the chores working folk have to live with…and glad I am that I don’t have to worry about it anymore!! Hope you find a time that is not too impossible.
Cookie, good on ya for sharing the tools; and nephew will get a good lesson on the value of some things.
Swampy, happy brunching and I really need to visit the Eggs Up around here (there are a couple of other places I go when I’m in the mood to break fast out of the house).
JtC, sounds like a busy day, sounds if I read you correctly that the Guv is more on your side. Hope things heal upand the holes get dug w/o further drama.
And that’s all the energy for typing I have left this week. Will work on the Sunday crossword puzzle until nodding-off time and will catch up with y’all on the next MMP.
Glad you had a nice time! And bonus, getting rid of more stuff. I’m doing the same, but it’s slow going.
Mmmm, those sound nice! You’ve got the autumn spirit!
I had a leftover burger from a couple nights ago and that was my dinner again, too. See what you started, swampy! Glad you found another church, flyboy.
Awwww.
JtC, I’m sorry you had such a discouraging day and that you and hubby had a dust-up. This too shall pass.
Glad you had a good slothy day and still had time for auto research, metal mouse.
Today was Floor Show Day. Rollsucked the whole house and danced with the mop in the kitchen. Also finally got Hulu set up and as soon as possible, I got stuck into The Bear, which if you’re a foodie, is a pretty fun, angsty drama. I’m glad I stuck it out past the first couple of episodes where people are yelling at each other all the time. I see why it has received such critical acclaim.
And I love my new wi-fi!
Ollie got his pasture walk and found time to bark at the squirrel on several occasions. Or something. Invisible mole people, perhaps.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.
Do those words actually go together?
There’s a new MMP!
