(Old) I resolve to start the new MMP

Good morning all. Stayed in bed until about 8am, this is a habit worth cultivating, IMHO but I doubt it will last as the days get longer. Have had my Big Bowl O’Cheerios and an apple to break fast and will shortly head out to do my Firday shopping.

Did my end of the year financial check, one Annuity increased in value despite the withdrawals and the other went down about $1,200, so at that rate it’ll be depleted in 2145 or so. Other stuff did well, much better than what banks pay, so may talk to my adviser about moving a little more into those accounts. Problem is, I’m 73 and want to spend the bloody money while I’m alive and active, not just keep saving for savings sake. It is a puzzlement…

doggio, I knew you would understand that reference.

swampy, twas’ a heck of a game, interesting that many of the big names (Georgia, Ohio State, Alabama) got knocked out in the quarterfinals.

Bright Tree, Indiana-Oregon should be a much better game. Will be watching that one.

JtC, extremely nice work there. Never found anything in the pool, but have turned in the occasional item left on the exercise machines…and retrieved my phone from the desk when I forgot it one time…

FCM, Big-time college football has always brought out the fanatic in fans, but with the multi-billions now invested in it (including the players finally), it has become a most precarious job. Me, coaching kids in a no-stress league is about my speed these days. And hope Otis and Donk have a good time.

Sticky Buns, best wishes to Music Man, and while my nasal passages and lungs are clear I’m still coughing up little ball fo phlgem now and then, so I sympathize. And driving 2 hours for a pie plate does sound a bit…extreme, but folks be odd.

Taters, happy walking, sounds like your trail is more interesting than my view from the treadmill.

Maus, happy ‘working’ and best wishes.

And shopping list is ready so off I go. Have a great Firday all.

I like the colors on this one.

A happiest birthday to OYKW!

Up, breakfasted, caffeinating and fixing to get cleaned up. Happy Firday!

The designer has the most wonderful sense of colors. I don’t think I’ve every bought anything from her that didn’t have wonderful colors and textures.

The big news for the day is the litter robot is on the truck for delivery and the excitement is overwhelming. To one of us. He’s cleaned his room and moved things around while mopping the floor. He’s got his tools all ready and is currently watching you-tube videos about them.

My plans for the day are to just stay out of the way. As a matter of fact, its probably best that I just stay in my room and keep busy

I can see the driveway from my favorite stitching spot, I’ll holler when the robot appears and let Hubs play with it.

So far, I’ve managed to avoid forgetting anything but it is just a matter of time. If I find something in the changing room I’ll leave it on the sink by the door because I figure that if they lost something changing, they will look where they were first.

I totally agree that it won’t help. Some people react that way and I would never try to force weed on anyone. I do hope things get settled for you.

I hope you have a great walk and find some good riding trails. Don’t cross any streams, you don’t want to get stuck on the other side.

I wonder if its the cord because I wouldn’t drive all that way for a pie plate either.

Happy birthday OYKW! I hope your day is the greatest and that your hubby spoils you appropriately.

Salt is so important and so easy to forget. I like to gather all of my ingredients together before I start assembling and then I’ll put the used things on a different counter. That way, I will have a visual clue that I’ve forgotten to use something.

Use bungie cords and set up a squirrapolt. It won’t deter him, but everyone will be entertained when you launch him. (FIL did that one year and the squirrels would always come running back for another flight over the fence.)

Bison isn’t bad, but I thought that beefalo was kinda over-rated. I didn’t care much for ostrich either, but I’m not really a big fan of animal flesh anyhow. If not for Hubs, I would happily get my protein from other sources.

Hubs just got a delivery window 1100-1330. The excitement is overwhelming. I have a loaf of bread rising, the dishwasher is sloshing now and I’ll move it over to sit on the dryer when the sheets are ready to be moved over.

I can remember Mom putting her bread on the TV and let us have the TV on for hours instead of just one show.

And now the needle calls. I’ll fix that wonky looking stitch and then let the thread flow.

ETA: ITS HERE, ITS HERE! This is even better than a Diablo expansion!

(We might need to get a life…)

Evenin’.

I got a few more of the jobs I had planned for the break done- got the camera installed on the driveway, which involved going up a ladder with a drill so I really really didn’t wanna. Also got the bed put together in the polytunnel so I’ll have more planting space come spring.

Still got a pile of sticks and a manky old rug to get rid of, which I may tackle tomorrow. I think the fence is going to have to wait regardless of how the drain situation cos the ground’s frozen and will probably remain so for at least the next week. Oh well.

I was on the 200 Slide again today. A lot of future stuff to go out today, plus a bunch of wet Next Day Airs to rebox or damage, since the airport guys leave the air cans open. but it’s money. Laundy is cleaned, and tumbling in the dryer, so I shall nap.

:bottle_with_popping_cork:  :birthday_cake:HAPPY BIRTHDAY OYKW!!!:birthday_cake:

Well, the sole purpose of the feeder is to entertain Spot. Which it does, so it’s money well spent.

Enjoy the walk, Taters.

Laundry today, which is always fun. Some senile dipshit accused us of putting our clothes into a washer on top of his clothes. Yeah, sorry but it never happened. Still have to go down and get our stuff out of the dryers, then done for another two weeks.

Leftover chili for dinner tonight.

The wife keeps obsessing over the new carpet in the lobby because it doesn’t go with the wall covering. I’m afraid I got a bit short with her about it today. There’s nothing we can do about it, so why keep nattering on about it, ya know? I’m getting crankier in my dotage, I guess.

Wonderful stuff. I don’t think I’ve ever seen it for sale in the States, either in stores or restaurants, but one of the stores in Scotland carried it. One of the members of the barony down in Virginia was a farmer, and as such he was permitted to shoot any varmints he caught eating his crops. Did you know that deer are crop-eating varmints? Every September he’d host a feast, with venison stew featured on the day’s menu. (It was a close thing one year, though – he said he didn’t get a deer until three days before the feast.)

We’re home, having gotten a lot done in a relatively short time. All window frames are sanded, most are masked for painting. FCD will go back tomorrow and finish masking. Here’s hoping the primer shows up soon, so I can get started painting. I’ve got the first load in the washer with 3 more to go. With luck, I’ll be done before 7 tonight. Fingers crossed.

Otis had a good time, as usual. It was $20 well spent. He got to run around and interact with other critters. When we drove up, we saw him running along beside the golf cart, keeping pace without issues. That dog is a runner!! Here’s hoping it’ll lead to an early bedtime. He’s outside at the moment, probably digging another pit in the yard. Idiot canine.

Similar situation here. I turn 72 in 3 weeks. My annuity continues to grow despite monthly withdrawals, as does FCD’s. The main thing that stops us from taking more is my probably overblown fear of some sort of emergency requiring lots of $$$. Well, that and the taxes. We trust our money guy’s recommendations, tho we might up the monthly amount so we can spend it as we wish. We can increase my withdrawal by 50% and still have enough for another 20 years, even if it doesn’t earn another penny. And that’s not doing anything else to FCD’s account. So must think on it.

Same here. Lesson learned from one of MIL’s classic goofs. She made a custard pie and forgot all the spices. So it was like a sweet quiche without the cinnamon and nutmeg and I can’t recall what else. Anyway, I make sure the ingredients and the various measuring cups and spoons are at hand.

OK, time to toss the first load in the dryer and start the second.

Happy birthday, OYKW!

Meet the new kitties! We will pick them up Tuesday after the black one is spayed on Monday. She has had a cold and was malnourished, so she’s also getting another vet check. Today is her first day up for adoption and before that, she was fostered by the volunteer who assisted us. The tabby is already spayed and is in a cage with her littermate who is sadly already adopted. Both are about 11 weeks, the black one smaller. Both are playful, alert, approached us, climbed on our legs, purred, and seem pleasant and bright.

Do you not think that Spot would be entertained by seeing a flying squirrel?

New kittehs! :grinning_cat:

Findus has been braver (much to the annoyance of Abbey). He was playing in the living room earlier, and Goo came out and attacked him. There was some blood stain on the top of one of Findus’s paws.

KITTEHS!!! Sooooo cute!! Congrats!!

I’ve never known an unaffectionate black cat..

Verry cute kittehs! Though the black one looks to have some devious eyebrows.

I got some new throw pillows for the couch. We shall see how long until they are chomped. I gonna go with sunday.

I’m now sitting with 45 pounds of determined wiggle in my lap and getting tail thwipped. Typing around that is difficult.

And holy cats! I just looked at my time card app, they populated time off for 2026…I have over 3 weeks of PTO. Never in my life have I had any PTO, so this is just unreal to me.

It is just gorgeous! Like red, I too love the colors! Thanks for posting the pic. And may Hubs have a pleasant day getting the new auto-litter box together! Your plan to stay safely ensconced in your stitching spot is a good one, I think.

LOL, oh, you meant an actual meatloaf! Hope it was wonderful!

:+1: :+1: :+1:

Thank you, and to all who have wished the little delinquent well! It is so nice to see him not suffering with the itch.

Happiest of birthdays to OYKW! And may it be his best year ever.

I was sad to see it, but as metal mouse pointed out, it was a hell of a game! I don’t usually watch any games other than the Ducks, but in honor of you, I did watch that one. The Dawgs put up quite the fight, and you can be proud of that! Did you end up watching the whole game after all?

There must be more pie planned soon.

I once brought a pie to a gathering, same deal, in a plain glass pie plate. Never got it back. Which sort of broke my heart, because it belonged to my birth mother. I have very few things of hers, and now I have one fewer. I would have driven 2 hours to get it back if it had ever been located.

Thank you, taters! I hope you have a pleasant walk! The German restaurant serving wild game sounds amazing. What a shame it closed.

Oh, it will definitely be a better game – although the Ducks may find themselves in the same position as Texas Tech did yesterday. I do hope they put on a good performance, but I caught some of the Alabama/Indiana game yesterday, too, and those Hoosiers look ready for anything. Extremely well disciplined, and that’s something the Ducks have struggled with this year. < whisper > As Lily and I have discussed, it’s probably going to go not great for the Ducks.

Oh, they are adorable, Lily! Makes me wonder how Ollie would do with a cat or two around the place… I do miss having cats. You have certainly prepared well for their homecoming. I hope it goes well and look forward to hearing about it. With more piccies, if we’re lucky?

Enjoy that PTO soon, Van Go!

My handyman pal came by this morning and cleared up the fallen trees. We saved what we could for firewood and got a burn pile started for the rest. Can’t burn today, but probably on Monday. He also split wood so I have some ahead for the colder days that are coming. Like money in the bank to me! It’s nice to have the place cleaned up a bit.

Ollie got a bath and is now recovering from the trauma under a throw alongside my hip. He’s intermittently begging for peanuts. As one does.

Why I Watch College Football: When I moved to this area with my late husband, we quickly learned that the fastest way to get to know people here was to insert the comment, “How 'bout them Ducks?” into any conversation. So when my husband received a promotion with his company and learned, much to his dismay, that he was required to attend every Ducks game sponsored here by his employer, he found his extra ticket to be in great demand among his co-workers. I always let him take someone else, since the whole effort was undertaken on behalf of his employer and I’m not a big crowds person.

Being from Down Under, he was not a fan of American football. But as it was part of his job duties, he attended those games and did his best to enjoy them. I would watch them at home so we could discuss them when he came home.

After he died, I continued to watch the games as a sort of homage to him. And I still do.

I’ve caught a chill from working outdoors – may have to go take a nap with the heated mattress pad.

Ta for now!

Yes, hard to know. at the moment. She’s a bit denuded at her joints, protruding bones, and the back of her legs from, we assume, the combination of illness and starvation. She was checked for ringworm. She may have some white hairs on her brows and muzzle–we won’t know until she’s better fed. The volunteer who fostered her says she looks much better than when she came in. She’s been getting baby cat food x3 a day and their vet is following her. She had a round little tummy and her fur and limbs should fill out soon. She sneezed a little, but we’re assured she’s not contagious now. Both kittens were strays. They’ve been vetted by the vet, treated for digestive worms (she got extra treatment), had their first vax, are FeLV-, and she’ll be spayed and given another look by the vet on Monday.

Bright Tree, More pix of course! I, too, began watching college football because “How 'bout them Ducks?”* sets people at ease, whereas my usual erudite chatter does the opposite (+ very short hair + no makeup + comfortable clothes + assertive does me no good with stragers in an elevator or at a meeting). I hope your chill abates.

Nice to hear how many of us are engaged in hobbies or relaxing.

*The growled “Hucking Fuskies!” is only a joining statement in certain parts of the PNW.

As I predicted, there was nothing going on today, so it was Blood on the Clocktower on YouTube this afternoon.

Not a lot going on here today, other than cooking. I made taquitos with homemade guacamole for lunch, and Mr. brown is upstairs sleeping them off. I managed to dirty up every skillet and cooking implement in the kitchen, so the dishwasher is full and currently sloshing.

We’ve been getting a lot of welcome rain, and I’d like to take a drive into the hills to witness our dry gullies filling up with water. Maybe that’ll take place this afternoon or at least tomorrow morning.

Howdy Y’all! We went to Five Guys for OYKW’s bday lunch. It was good, but on the whole we’d rather have stoner food from Cook Out. Then again we are rather uncouth grumpy old men. He also got his fancy pie. Tomorrow is supposed to be a rainy day so I think I will make him a batch of chawklit chip/pee-kahn cookies. Might as well as I will also make a corn casserole and a squish casserole for first Sunday brunch. The Bishop will be with us, so the church is splurgin’ on ham and fried chikin. There will also be cake because of confirmations, receptions and the baptism of Baby Priest’s almost seven months old son.

College football is almost a religion in these parts. I attended UGA and am a dawg fan, but I am not as crazed as a lot of folks are. What gets me are the alleged die hard fans of a college football team who have never set foot on the campus and probably couldn’t find it even with gps. This is true all over the south and probably at least all over the midwest. Those are the “fans” who are most likely to want to tar and feather head coaches.
