(Old) I resolve to start the new MMP

Thanks. Yeah, we’ve had zillions of kitties, starting back in the old days when they went outside, you’d let them have a couple of litters before spaying them, and the fanciest food they got was dry Purina cat chow. I don’t remember ever clipping a cat’s nails until I was in my 30s. If they had hairballs, you stuck your finger in Vasoline and let them lick it off.

Mrs. L.A. just went to bed. (Yes, it’s only about 20:30.) She thanked me for making her crêpes this morning,

Today we are skiing/snowboarding. This is the third year my sister-in-law is braving skiing.

The first year we’re new here as well and didn’t know that the green slopes, beginner runs on the one mountain were much harder than one on this mountain. It was pretty hard for her.

I took a ski instructor course decades ago so I can teach beginners. Last year she went on this mountain and did better. This year she’s looking much better.

It’s cold today. Minus 6°C but feels like -15°C. I’m taking a long break in the lodge.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 52 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 63 and partly sunny. The big item on today’s agenda is deheathenization. The Bishop will be with us and we will have a baptism along with confirmations and receptions. I get to plop in a pew with OYKW. First Sunday brunch follows which will be large and in charge, so we eat well today. The rest of the day will be spent in high RDOS inactivities.

Coppertone I make good cookies if’n I do say so myself. It’s the only time we have cookies as we don’t buy them anymore. Self control is not one of our strong suits when it comes to cookies.

Maus you have a wonderful wife indeed! I think ice cream is a powerful show of support.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then purtification for deheathenization must commence.

Happy Sunday Y’all!

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 1c/34f with a predicted high of 2c/35f and scattered snow showers. Weather app says “I’m going to take a fucking wild guess and say that you probably don’t fucking live in Long Beach.” Quite right, I don’t!

My mum had them too, I chose not to inherit them. She used them for baking sponge cakes but I don’t recall her ever using them for pies. She had other dishes that were specifically for pies.

That sounds like an ideal plan for today, I will be doing the same.

I don’t think so, there was nothing particularly special about the pie dish as far as I recall. The important fact was that she had a rectangular enamel dish that was designated as the stuffing dish…and dad dared to use the wrong one

Love the new kitteh names! In my experience, post-op kittens are almost as lively as pre-op ones! Surgical techniques have improved greatly so there’s much less of a wound in most cases and it can be protected with a little onesie instead of the Cone of Shame. The last time we fostered kittens, they were firing round the house almost immediately after getting home, and looked in disgust at the soft food they were offered. Clearly for them, it was business as usual

I’m glad you found the courage to tell her, and that she took it so well. Perhaps she did already have an idea that’s what was going on, hopefully you’ll have plenty of support from her and it will make the journey a little easier. Ice cream is a great start.

Great news that you’re home though, and I’m sure Nelson will get over his confusion once he has a good sniff of everything.

Yesterday went as planned, except for the chippy tea which didn’t happen because the chippy was closed. It wasn’t a massive problem as there’s a pizza place next door so we channelled shoe and got dinner from there instead. I have leftovers for lunch today. Afterwards, we had cocktails and watched films, and I made it to bed around 4am.

Late start to the morning, but the cats got fed before ‘im indoors got to bed and I have just given them some lunchtime food too. Nothing else planned for today, in fact I doubt I’ll even change out of my PJs. I have about 60 pages left in a book I’ve been reading, I would like to get that finished today because I haven’t enjoyed it much and I’d really like it to be over!

I read the billboard twice and I can swear it said they’ll open on Sunday. I need to make an excuse to go to Charlotte Hall again and see. Unless I’m hallucinating?? Oh noooooooo!!!

All our TV comes from DC, and honestly, all it takes is one flake for the city to go bat-crap crazy. I suspect it’s because there are so many out-of-town folk who may have never seen snow. Or it could be news hype, altho it was the same way in the early 80s when I was working in the five-sided building. And despite the weather, traffic thereabouts always sucketh. Peoples is weird.

I am so glad Ziva is ancient and just doesn’t care. Altho she didn’t really care when she was young. So much of her life is under the bed… The worst she does is use the underside of the dining room chairs as scratching posts, and I only know that because I hear her. When I reupholstered the cushions, I saw some torn paper labels, but no worrying damage. So I’m lucky there.

Back when I worked in that five-sided building, my brother was going to take me skiing because back then I was a bit more daring. Then we got a sudden warm snap and the local snow turned to mush. And that was that - I was transferred to Florida, then got married. I was never really interested after that.

Today is starting in the 20s and might creep into the low 40s. FCD is doing a little more work on the boat and I may get brave and wash Otis. We’ll see how I’m feeling later this morning. No plans other than that.

I started a new lap robe last night while watching assorted stuff on TV. One was a documentary of sorts about Fred Astaire’s career. Then I tried a couple of other shows, but they all seemed pretty awful and I gave up and decided to go to bed.

Continuing the annoying trend, I woke at 3, emptied my bladder, then read a bit till I was dopey again. I got another 2 anna half hours of sleepage so overall, I’m pretty well-rested. I don’t like this routine. Will I ever sleep straight thru again??

And so the day begins - who knows where it’ll go??

Happy Sunday!!

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. The usual morning cleaning and afternoon sloth and handegg, with evening hockey. It’s a balmy 28 degrees Ferret Height(-2.22 Centipedes), but at least it’s a dry cold.

He probably used the tea spoon for cereal, too.

Spot’s favorite thing is slamming cabinet doors. He can and does open them, but mainly slams them to be annoying.

Morning all. Up early as my bladder, which has been relatively quiet this week, decided to act up and had me awake at 2am and 5am. Finally got up about 6pm, did the NY Times run and cleaned up the kitchen and terlets, so now internettin’ and biding my time till the Golden Corral run. The indoor soccer (coaching and refereeing) will occupy my afternoon. Weather is not to bad, no rain and few clouds with temperatures heading to 55F according to the Weather Wizards. We may see 70F later this week.

SO between watching trains on Horseshoe Curve, let’s see what’s on the mind of Mumpers…

Here in N. Ali-bama it is tornado season; the least likelyhood of bad weather gets all local programming pre-empted and folks showing maps of possible tornadoes all over that (very seldom) come to anything. But guess it is better to be safe than sorry.

I hear that is what man-eating tigers say…

Sensei, enjoy the skiing. Never have done that but I know a lot of folks enjoy it.

swampy, happy pew plopping!

FCM, will be interested in any follow-up to the Chic-fil-A conundrum. And I wish I had a solution for sleeping in, but I cannot make sense of my own routine, so can’t offer any help.

OK, on with the Morning and my bladder is making that signal again. Take care all.

Happy Sunday!

I’m finding that it’s going to be a while before I’m able to do more than microwave meals in the kitchen. I do have some homemade and store bought stashed in the freezer and Sis is bringing some soup in single serving containers to replenish today.

Afternoon all.

Yay for home Red!

My sleep’s been awful lately. Not been able to drop off until maybe 3-4am, then I don’t wake up until nearly 10.

Nevertheless, I did get up with the intention of being all productive today.

The biiig pile o sticks needs to go to the recycling place to become compost. It’s been there for months and it’s the last job but the fence I had planned for the break (ground currently too frozen for fencing, but it’ll probably thaw again in a week or two). I checked the place was open, checked google maps as it’s the last day of the break for many people, thought it could be busy but then it’s also freezing. It said it was pretty quiet. Loaded up the car, drove down there and.. the queue was enormous. Almost back to the main road. That bunch of ratbags google lied to me.
The recycling centre closes really early in winter, and it I reckon it would have taken an hour almost to get to the front, and even then, when it’s like that I wouldn’t have been able to pick the parking space by the compost collection, so it would be a pain to unload when it’s a huge pile o sticks. Did a U turn in the queue and came home. I’m going to go in the morning, before irk instead, when it will probably be just me there.

I’m a student, I don’t get normal pay, so I’m allowed to be unreliably present… A decent chunk of people will still be away anyway, lots of people go away for the break.

Good morning.

It’s 46F and raining outside. We’ll have rain all day, with a projected daytime high of 49F. It was pouring rain throughout the wee hours of the morning.

Red, I’m so glad you’re finally really home. Give yourself some grace; you went through a lot—Skritches to Nelson.

JtC, I don’t have issues with doing chores; it’s leaving the house. Which is odd for me, because I usually start going stir crazy if I don’t get out of the house every couple of days.

I tried snowboarding once; I could not get up and stay up on that dang board. Considering I I used to wakeboard, it should have been easier for me, but it wasn’t. I much prefer snow skiing and waterskiing. I somehow felt more in control. However, it’s been many years since I’ve skied. It’s a costly sport. I skied when all-day lift tickets topped out at around 45 bucks. It costs nearly 200 dollars a day for a one-day lift pass at the ski resort nearest to me now. That’s just insane. Plus, you have to make reservations to ensure there is parking.

Maus, wishing you the best. Your wife is a keeper.

The dang Seahawks one again, so once again, Maisie was scared out of her wits due to the fireworks chaos.

There are tentative plans to go out for breakfast or lunch, and maybe for a walk. Rollsucking and dusting will occur on either end of those activities.

Today is my daughter’s 36th birthday. How the hell do I have a daughter that old? She was just eighteen a few months ago. I’ve sent her birthday wishes, and my husband will do the same once he’s up.

Alright, time to finish my coffee. You all take care.

Earthwise in Leonardtown has a lie on its website. They don’t open at 9 - they open at 10. So I drove there and had to drive right back home. Otis was confused. It’s nearly 10:30 and I guess I’ll head back as soon as FCD gets home. I was tempted to try washing Otis in our basement bathtub, but the idea of kneeling on hard tile and having to wipe down the walls after he shakes out - nope. Not to mention all the hair in the drain. So I’ll head out in a little bit.

Not the way I wanted to start my day. Oh well…

Despite having all of the same tools, cooking here is way different. We’re at 646ft and I spent most of my adult life on the side of a mountain. Our last home was at 3694ft with less than 10% humidity, plus the AC was running most of the time.

Even simple things are different, it takes foreeevvvver to get a pot of water to boil but things cook faster so all of my kitchen “instincts” are off. I’m learning and learning always makes my brain feel good so I’m happy

So far I’ve been resisting getting a dutch oven. I’m sure I will cave sometime in the future, but we have sooooo much stuff already and I just don’t want to keep adding to the collection. I’ve been getting good results with my triple-clad stainless steel lidded stock pot. (I’ll bet if I had used one of the cheap stock pots, it would have quietly disappeared after the dishwasher fiasco.)

I can’t see the loaf through the window though, I have to open the oven and let all the steam out to get a look-which isn’t great.

BTDT, sure glad we know better now

I haven’t had a PJ for a long time. They are still fun even after you are retired  I hope you have a restful, relaxing day.

That sounds like a daunting task, does he cooperate? When I let George have a bath, he gets fur and water all over the bathroom so it doesn’t happen as often as he would like.

Ya have to open them before you can slam them!

Sadly, the people who need to be warned often don’t pay attention because of the constant over-hype.

But you can eat them at your own table which will make them taste much better than hospital food! Don’t push yourself, your body has had a serious trauma and its going to take a while yet.

Have you heard of Dead Hedges? They are a good way to get rid of big piles of sticks and they are environmentally friendly.

So I got stood up today because James got a better offer. He’s helping someone cram for a test and making decent money for it. I’m flexible, we can go another time.

I didn’t feed my sourdough starter last night, so no baking bread today. I changed the sheets this morning and they are washing but that’s the extent of my domestic duties until dinner and dinner will be leftover green chili, refried beans and sliced tomatoes and avocados. I’ll probably fry up some tortilla chips to go with, but it will still be a low effort dinner.

So I guess the only thing left to do around here is start my audio book, load my pipe and grab my needle

Have a great Sunday everyone!

Happy Sunday - the sun is trying to peek through the clouds but isn’t having much luck. The temp should be rather warm though despite the lack of sunshine. Today is laundry day and quite a bit has built up, so I’ll be sticking near to babysit the machines while they do all the hard work.

I have to go back into the office tomorrow for the first time in 3 weeks, so that’s a bit of a bummer. Things will start kicking off at work and it’ll be pretty busy until early March. It’s nice that it helps the time go by quicker, but it also makes it difficult to take much time off for my move in three weeks. It’ll all get sorted, one way or another!

susan the kitties look adorable! Looking forward to hearing all about their antics once they’re home.

Bright Tree did I miss the conclusion to the automatic gate saga? Were you able to get it working or is it still in pieces on your table?

Maus hugs to you and Mrs Magill. I hope counseling helps - and don’t forget you’ve got friends here too.

Red yay for finally being home!! Is there going to be any out patient rehab to help you rebuild your strength? If nothing is currently planned, it might be worth asking your regular doc to see if it can be ordered. I’ve seen it help immensely with some friends after they were stuck in a hospital bed for an extended period of time.

Yeah, I have. Some will be used as a less organised version of that, as it’s much harder to make it look nice than all the online guides would make you think, especially if you don’t have lots of long straight bits. I may just let some break down in an undisturbed heap in a back corner.

Anything that isn’t edible, good for wildlife or at minimum pretty is being chopped down and dug out, to be replaced with something which ticks at least one box. This place was seriously overgrown when I moved in, so there’s still way more material than I’d be able to use and if I want to have space to grow what I’d like, there’s plenty more to come out.

I estimate I’ve taken 6 car loads so far, plus I’ve had to burn about 1/4 of that on top as it was too spiky to get in the car (I don’t know what eejit thought a plant with inch long spikes was a good plan for planting anywhere, never mind directly under a washing line). I have a cheap electric shredder for the thinner bits, but it was a bit too cold for that today, because I have no outside socket, and I wasn’t really up for leaving the back door open for hours…

The Saturday shopping trip had a bit of a hiccup as the substitute was not informed of the route change that happened 2 months ago.

Somehow my kindle went missing. I was reading it while waiting for the shuttle pick up. I don’t know what happened after that. The driver tried to help me get clickity clax on the shuttle. Clickity is very particular on how it is to be handled and things shifted. I am hoping my kindle did not fall out and land on the street. I would think I would notice that… Le sigh. I have reported it lost/stolen. Hopefully I will find it and restore it.

I am able to read on my iPad and phone, also have many non electronic books to read. Just very frustrating. I won’t be near the office where my backup kindle lives until weds..

Meanwhile gearing up for Christmas. This includes a serious cleaning of the flat, all must be done by sundown on the 6th. Hopefully the kindle will be found during this activity.

Should you decide to go with a cast iron dutch oven, you may want to take a field trip to the Lodge factory company store near Chattanooga. You may walk out with a whole mess of goodies.

No in home rehab was ordered, but Sis and I have begun some chair yoga and leg strengthening exercises.

Thank you, everyone for the support. This will be an interesting journey.

FCM I remember in 2009/10, Obama mentioning his daughters were shocked that a snow day was called for two inches.

We did church this morning, so we could attend the Epiphany brunch. They’ve just finished the remodel. The building was first built in 1837 with bits and bobs added on over the years. We raised a bunch of money and stripped the office/classrooms areas down to the studs and added a second floor. It’s beautiful and ADA compliant.

Lunch was mini cubanos with leftover ham and Hawaiian rolls. We have yoga later this afternoon, then it’s time to use the ham hock for split pea soup.

Lemme put it this way - the DIY washing stations have eye bolts in the wall and leash/collar thingies that clip to the bolts to keep the dog in the station during the whole evolution. Otis doesn’t like being bathed, but he doesn’t fight me, except when I turn him around to wash the other side.

The big fun today was when he decided to shake and I wasn’t ready. I had to stop and clear my glasses of water. And despite toweling him the best I could, once I got him on the floor so I could blow-dry him, another shake got that whole area wet. He doesn’t much like the blow dryer either. But at least for a short time he’s clean and less stinky.

I am surprised at how long it takes him to dry all the way - his coat is thicker than I realized. Higgs didn’t stay damp nearly as long.

I absolutely must share this regarding the latest trashy novel I’m ready. It’s got the be the most ridiculous one yet, and that’s saying a lot, since the last on involved a seance.

There are 3 sisters. The eldest is married to a duke (of course - it’s almost always a duke.) The middle is engaged to the boy next door who she’s known since infancy and they’re to be married in a few weeks. The youngest used to help their (late) physician father as an herbalist, and she continues to experiment with potions.

Middle sister was experiencing really bad PMS, so herbalist sister mixed up a potion that turned out to be a very powerful aphrodisiac. That led to middle sister dry-humping the duke’s bastard stepbrother in the library after everyone else was asleep. Stepbrother, being a rogue and all that, doesn’t want to marry, but he doesn’t think middle sister should marry the boy next door since she’s never even kissed him. The duke wants his stepbrother to leave because he suspects there’s something between him and middle sister, which there is, of course, tho they’re both fighting it. Youngest sister just gave middle sister another, smaller dose of the love potion in her hot chocolate…

Of course, we all know that middle sister and stepbrother will end up together, and the only reason I haven’t deleted this stupid e-book is I have to know what sort of deus-ex plot device will resolve everything. And what gets me is this isn’t a self-published work, and the cover includes “NY Times Best Selling Author” in gold letters. Makes one wonder what the criterion is for best-selling author. Anyway, I did mention trashy, didn’t I??

A guy I know spent some time living in a hippy free-love commune which, according to him, kept itself funded and supplied with drugs by collectively writing trashy romance novels. All published under pseudonyms of couse. Specifically, they wrote for the range my elderly Great Aunt used to read obsessively.
