Good! Because I was goning to suggest that the two of you walk into HR coughing and snotting and say, “Really? You want this in the workplace?”
Yes Virginia, there is a sanity clause.

Great news Sticky Buns. At least someone can see the obvious.
At the gym for now while the dishwasher and clothes washer do their thing. According to the treadmill and cycle I have worked off 546 calories so far so still have some work to do to catch up with boo fae. Still have 2.5 hours before they close so may get some weightlifting done too.
At least I’ll be hungry for dinner time.
Besides those already noted: JFK, Stalin, Truman, Hemingway, Prokofiev were all dead by 1989. Off the top of my head. I’m sure there are more.
Huzzah!
I finally got home. The detours are insane. I am applying cats to warm up.
I logged off a couple of minutes past noon. I started at six, and the company gave everyone two hours off; so I made my eight.
I took a shower, and there were only two pairs of underwear in my drawer. I put on one, and then put my clothes in the wash.
I think I’ll trim and cut the collard greens now, so that I don’t have to do it tomorrow. Oh, and I need to go to the supermarket to be sure I have eggs and milk for cornbread.
Church service called off, snow worries. Its 10-midnight, then big breakfast.
It would’ve been my third there.
Its actually 30 out now and slushy.
We got clearance to go to the allergy jabber early, and got back to Elkhart just as the snowstorm started.
Rocker, cats are always a good substitute for electric blankets!
As for New Year’s Day foods, we’ll probably have something “and spinach.” I can wear my Popeye “Strength Thru Spinach” belt buckle.
Be safe and careful out on the roads. A lot of motorists will be impaired, due to celebration.
Thinking about jumping up north for Birch Bay, Washington’s Guinness Book polar plunge record attempt. Fly Boy, you and SWMBO with me?

We’ll watch. ![]()
I’ve done this sort of thing before (Cape Cod [nekkid], Antarctica). It’s… bracing.
Two of our black cats are sisters. I think the youngest might be a half-brother, three years younger. The fourth one is related, but we do have two of his siblings.
Love that mental image!! ![]()
We decided that tonight was a good night for sushi. So did a gazillion others! We got the last table in the restaurant, and there was a line waiting when we left. It’s a tiny place - maybe a dozen tables?? Good sushi, and really good prices.
There were 6 late teen/early 20s guys in the table next to us. Every once in a while I’d hear one drop an F-bomb and the guy next to him would shush him. I managed not to laugh, but I suppose there are those who would have been very much offended by such language. My mom, for one.
I surprised myself by fitting into a leather coat that I haven’t been able to zip up in more years than I remember. I also tried on my favorite cloth coat, and even tho it’s XXL, the style is such that it doesn’t really matter. The shoulders fit and the rest is supposed to be loose - it’s just looser than it used to be. So I’ve got 2 feels-like-new coats!
One more day with the spawn. Daughter will be stopping to get them on her way home and I’ll have pasta ready so she doesn’t have to cook when she gets home. Because I’m nice, dammit. SIL will be working till 11PM, or he’d be invited too. For now, tho, the house is quiet and chillage will be in high gear as soon as I post this and mosey over to my recliner.
Evening all. Back from the gym and fixed two Chee-burgers because my final weigh-in of the year was 201.8 lbs, which is 0.6lbs less than I weighed last New Years Eve…and since my goal was to get in better shape while maintaining my weight, I consider that a success. Even with them I am still balancing out on calories, so the occasional splurge is not plagued with guilt. Now for 2026…
Laundry done and dishes washed and put away, so I have been moderately responsible today. Tomorrow will be one of sloth and ease as nothing is on my agenda save for watching tackleball and filing my 2025 records away.
Coppertone, just looked at the Weather map and looks like calling off the Church service was probably a good idea, looks like a big storm hitting.
lily, I had the opportunity to jump into Antarctic waters…and passed, anything cooler than a warm shower is not something I’m willing to volunteer for. But have fun anyway!
FCM, might have been they saw you there and didn’t want to upset “Mom”. Don’t think I’ve ever dropped an F-bomb in public, but there’s always tomorrow…and conga-rats for the clothes fitting; there are a couple things I can get into now that have been impossible for years, keep up the good work.
And onward into the night. The Ohio State University will be playing shortly and since I was born and raised there, guess I should watch at least some of it. Take care all.
Murphy took the morning off, but he showed up in the late afternoon. I’m building a thing…an Archimedes screw to lift ping pong balls, ya know, like ya do…and the motor controller went “pfft” and let out some smoke when I plugged it in. It broke the cardinal rule of electronics. Don’t let the smoke out of the wires.
FCM Yay for fittin’ into the old jackets!
I did a polar bear plunge once. Once. I can’t even remember where it was now, just the vague recollection of icy water. Must have blocked it out of the memory banks.
I read that as (it)'s no worries. 30 and slush is indeed yuk.
flyboy You are a bigger man than me. I would have not shared any institutional knowledge with the folks that are taking your place. I see you’re not sharing the clever shit, but I wouldn’t give 'em anything, not after how you got treated.
Snort. Now go and sit in the corner and think about what you’ve done.
JtC Gorgeous work, as always. My hands can’t do that little stuff. I can get a piece of wood to within a 64th of an inch, but that’s using tools. Manual dexterity has gone the way of the dodo. Especially since this new development of soreness and weakness in the pad of my right hand. No idea what’s up with that.
We just the Next Day Air stuff today. I was clerking in Smalls. On the way home I stopped for milk and cat food. I had a bowl of oatmeal and an everything bagel for breakfast. It being cold, I’m having a cup of hot chocolate. It being New Year’s Eve, I added a slug of tequila to it. Served in The Pessimist Mug because < gestures at everything >
Yay!
< submit button fail >
Up from naptime, having a martini, cheesy breaded chicken thigh, orzo with lemon and butter, and Parmensean bacon spinach. The two upstairs dogs are celebrating with a barking fit.
We have a pallet of Zep to soak up spills. Evac is reserved for smoking, flaming packages.
That’s why I stay home on Amateur Night.
The only thing getting that cold around here is my gin.
The Association really does help out our local businesses. We were founded in 1899, so we have more than a century of history. I am aggrieved that Management doesn’t understand the goal of the Association, and is looking to its (non-profit) bottom line. The facts are that membership organisations are losing members. I will do my best to support our members. I must confess though, that I hope there’s a FAFO moment for Management. Since I’m being paid (the higher end) a data entry salary, I’m hoping I can find a data entry/clerk position that pays about the same for a lot less work and responsibility. I’ve been ‘responsible’ my whole life. I need a break.
It’s 18:36. We’ll head off at a quarter ‘til seven to find a spot to ignite our flares for the Ring of Hope and Fire. People are already launching mortars. Last I saw Goo, she was on my bed. Abbey just ran off to get under it. Haven’t checked Findus since the booms started about ten minutes ago.
When I make bespoke pieces, they always get their own Oort ornaments but I’ve been doing needlework for over 60 years and fully intend to die with a needle in my hand and be cremated with needles in my collar.
Lame stitcher joke: A needlepoint addict who wasn’t a very nice person died and got sent to Hell. An imp showed her to the room she would live in for the rest of eternity. She was amazed, there were good lights and tables, windows with fabulous views and the walls were covered with stitching supplies. Threads, canvas, patterns, frames, everything was there…and then she realized that the hell of it was that there were no needles.
I has a question…if I made a little Easter egg picture with the left over colors, would that be something you might like? You will be my secret santa recipient someday and I know you like hand made stuff.
To everyone, thank you for your nice words about my stitching. There are mistakes, of course there are and there would be even if I didn’t stitch with weed. This time last year I couldn’t see the difference between the white and yellow. Sometimes I’d get the blue mixed in as well. Much frogging happened (rippit, rippit, rippit) and Jolene learned words she far too young to hear.
This kit came from the UK before it was common for websites to be listed with company name and phone number and somehow ended up being donated to the American Needlepoint Guild for me to win at an auction.
@Filbert many people do design their own needle art, our own shoe does lovely cross stitch pieces without patterns. I would love to be creative, but my brain doesn’t really work that way. I can only achieve that zen state of total immersion and full engagement when I know exactly what I’m doing.
I am so sorry that you have to deal with that. It used to be kinda loud at our last place (Sheriffs would respond, the fire danger out there was always high), but not horrible and Mom’s place in Boise will be sounding like a war zone all night long.
Last year I heard a few rifle shots at midnight, but that was all. Fireworks are easy to come by and there really isn’t much fire danger, but most folks go to bed early so they can get up and go to church in the morning.
Not me, I’ll stay up until at least 11. Maybe.
Winter here is why I’m learning how to bake bread. Its just the weather for fresh bread and soup.
That never happens to me. My keys are always attached to my pants and so far I haven’t left the house without my pants. But just in case, we have a house key hidden in a rock and magnet key holders on our vehicles.
I’ve known you were totally insane ever since you shared that pic of you swimming with penguins.
The weather guessers say we are going to get snow tonight, so Hubs wanted to go to the butcher shop and stock up on bacon and butter. The one lane road is “paved” but is also shaded and once it freezes it takes a long time to thaw.
I went with him and learned that you can’t sell venison or any other game meat in WV. They had venison summer sausage that was clearly marked Not for Retail Sale, Processing Fee Only. When I pointed it out, Hubs bought one. He really liked it which was a good thing because it was BIG and he’s going to be eating it for a while.
A timer just went off, something must need my attention. I’ve washed all of the bedclothes and am working on the throws and cat beds. I try to do that at least twice a year and the process usually happens on the new year.
Have a great and safe evening and I hope everyone’s new years go better than this one did.
That’s your variant of a “Persian flaw”. ![]()
