51 years ago today:
Supper last night was sausage-egg-and-cheese sandwiches, like sausage McMuffins on bread instead of English muffins.
I had an omelette sandwich on the boat every time the cooks made French toast.
I’ve never bitten a Korean – what do they taste like? ![]()
“Waste of good chocolate”? That would be any chocolate eaten by someone else.
Cream-cheese icing?
Congratulations!
0845 and we have 55 of the expected 73 Ferrets. And it’s not supposed to rain again until Wednesday afternoon!
The channel of weather says it’s 64F now, rising to 84F later. So, open windows, or air conditioning, that is the question. Windows it is!
We went out for a walk yesterday. We were intercepted by a neighbor. He spotted my St. Louis Cardinals belt buckle, and he launched into a long story about how he met his wife in an airport. I was standing there, leaning on my cane with my legs getting stiff and sore, and thinking, “Didn’t this same neighbor buttonhole us last year to tell us this same story?” We stood there, being Midwest Polite, and let him rattle on. Finally, sensing an opening, we disengaged, and I limped home
.Happy Anniversary, Hippie!
I’ll talk to you later. I’m headed for a bowl of cereal.
Not a lot to report; standing in parking lots begging for money, letting two jerks use me, but tomorrow I am getting a cataract removed.
Im nervous but its so needed.
Good morning all. Decided to pickup a half-dozen Krispy Kremes donuts at Kroger rather than driving 15 miles for ‘fresh’ ones and also got a pecan roll, a little microwave time and they were warm and delicious and I have consumed 2/3 of the calories I need for the day. Will perform mowage in a couple hours, the weather report says we may see the first 90F reading of the year today so don’t want to wait too late to do it. Otherwise it should be a day of rest after my exertions yesterday.
flyboy, I guess ouzo is an acquired taste, I tried some when I visited Greece 20+ years ago and…didn’t acquire it. But hope you can find some.
doggio
I presume that was a planned operation…
Shoe, glad the battery gadget worked, I acquired one of those ‘power banks’ for phones and other electric gadgets for my vacation and it worked very well, may have to look into getting one for the car. As for the thingamajig, Jumpy is the obvious name, since you mention it has lights, “Lights and Power Division” might be appropriate, but is probably too long.
swampy, happy Vergering.
FCM, never had heard of that woodpecker discourager, will be interested to know if it works or not.
Hippie, a most happy start to your second half-century together.
Knots, ah, the species of ‘talkus uninterruptus’, mostly found wherever there are a few people (have a couple of them at my gym). Glad you were able to disengage politely.
{{Coppertone}}. Be careful and take care of yourself.
And my donuts and pecan roll are happily digesting. Have a good Sunday all.
Mornin’ all.
It’s a brisk 39F and mostly cloudy. It’ll remain cloudy, with some afternoon peeks of sunshine, and a daytime high of 62F. Yesterday we got our afternoon thunderboomers, hail, and torrential downpours.
Happy Anniversary, Hippie!
Shoe, I’m glad the gadget worked.
I met up with my sister and brother-in-law yesterday at my mother’s house, and I returned my mother’s purse, keys, and cane. We went over what had happened with my mother during their absence and talked about potential plans for my mother when it’s determined she can no longer be on her own. I think this woke my sister up a little. At least, I hope it did.
Nellie, just a reminder…NO BENDING! ![]()
Lily, you take care of yourself! We’ll be here waiting for you.
We are going to my son’s place today, and he’s going to take me out to celebrate my upcoming birthday. On Tuesday, he’ll swing by our place on the way to his work conference and drop off Zeus. He actually had an appointment to return Zeus yesterday, but decided to keep him. Zeus returned the favor by peeing on a suitcase full of jackets, ripping up a light fixture box, and trying to get to the light fixture, too.
To be honest, I’m super leery of having Zeus here, but my husband is insisting on it. Maybe Buster and Maisie will keep him occupied enough to tone down his destructive tendencies. I am hoping that I’ll finally get to go to the nursery tomorrow. It seems like it’ll be the one day that I have to do it.
It’s that time. You all take care of yourselves. Oh, Metal Mouse, you do know that you can get a serious sunburn even on cloudy days, right? And, although you were probably not near water, it’s even worse on the water. Or, up in the mountains. Ask me how I know…
The SPAM® fairy came!
(Also the alcohol pads.) With a dozen new cans and one already in the cupboard, I easily have a year’s supply. (The Korean BBQ flavoured SPAM® and the Branston Pickle are scheduled to arrive later today.)
That’s sort of an inside-out omelette sandwich. My recipe: Scramble one jumbo egg with heavy cream, salt, and pepper. (I do about 60 strokes with a fork. I habitually count things as I do them.) I spray a 10-inch non-stick pan with PAM, and cook the eggs, covered, over low heat. when they’re done, I put two slices of American cheese (pasteurised processed American cheese, not ‘pasteurised prepared cheese product’) in the middle. Fold the all four sides over the cheese. Put the omelette onto buttered toast, top with six half-slices of deadpig strips, and top with another slice of buttered toast.
I love it. Though I no longer eat candy, I loved black jelly beans too. I can easily find some. I can buy a bottle a mile down the beach. I just have to remember to think about it. We had two Greek restaurants in town. Sadly, the better, closer one closed a couple/few years ago. We would ask for tequila sunrise cocktails made with ouzo instead of tequila there, and requested the same at the other one. Ouzo, orange juice, grenadine syrup. It’s called a Santorini Sunset; though looking up recipes, most of them have other (unneeded) stuff in them.
0737 here, and 50º Ferret Height.
TBT I licked the chocolate off my hand, dark chocolate with a smear of sea salted cherriness- I try not to waste food
Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 12c/54f with a predicted high of 13c/56f and cloudy. Weather app says “The fucking clouds are all lurking outside, and acting like total fucking douche waffles.”
We survived the trip, nobody sang anything about shooting the Sherriff, so geezer jokes are safe ![]()
Moooom your neighbour sounds like a real character, and one to steer clear of! The comedy tour name is excellent, I’d be there too!
Very true, I’ve never had any shorts of any kind that had enough pockets. Even my gym stuff only has one pocket and that’s only big enough to hold a phone.
flyboy sounds like you have had a busy but productive day. Those days do feel good when you know you’ve achieved lots of stuff.
That sounds lovely, and she left it where you can reach too! I hope you’re feeling a bit brighter today, sounds like your kids are doing a good job looking after you (and themselves, in your son’s case).
Feel better soon, Lily
Another busy weekend comes to a close for us, with the usual amount of fun mixed with travel trauma. We had a great time at the festival, really nice venue and it was very well organised. We arrived at our hotel, checked in and went straight out again, the venue was only a 15-minute walk away. There was some seating outside, along with a couple of food trucks, and inside was a stand selling tea, coffee and various snacks, a pizza stand, and all the merch desks for the bands.
We got a drink from the main bar, which (according to the tap) looked like it should have been pale ale but it turned out to be some fizzy lager-type stuff that was not very nice. Fortunately, we located a bar on the other side of the venue that had what they just called Beer 2 and Beer 3. Turns out they were locally-brewed bitters, and kept us going for the rest of the evening. We saw several friends during the course of the day, and had the usual conversations with random strangers. We were back in our hotel room by 1am, having a cup of tea. Very pleased to see that the hotel had Yorkshire Gold teabags too.
Checkout was 11am, and we’d intended to catch a train at 11.16am but that got cancelled. We wandered into the city centre, picked up sandwiches for lunch, then headed back to the station and had a cup of tea while we waited for the 12.16pm train. Got back to Big City Station to find that a points failure on the track just north of our home station had knocked all the trains out, so once again, I was back on the tram. 'im indoors was grumpy about it, then decided it wasn’t too bad and it had been a while since he travelled on the tram so it was ok in the end. Got off, walked through town and found a cab to take us home, just in time to beat the football crowds coming in for a late kick-off home game.
Two hours later than planned, but 'im indoors should get all of the travel costs refunded because of the delays and cancellations. Cats have been fed, litter trays are clean, after a couple of cups of tea it’ll be time to do the next things on my list. I’ve got dinner to make, and I need to sort out campus food as I’ve got to go to the office on Monday and Tuesday next week. Bah!
Lightening McQueen?
Happy anniversary hippy!
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. I woke up around 0330 and had problems getting back to sleep, so I read for an hour or so. That meant that I slept about a half hour later.
I have arrangements to make to pick up a desktop with Office on it and a printer in a different transaction. I’ll be using a standard keyboard again soon.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
Took an Aleve or two last night to fend off the achy muscles from our gardening work. Lifting bags of soil is a bad idea at my age. Woke up feeling a bit drugged, but that’s expected when I take those. Nothing going on today other than a food delivery from Amazon and waiting for the stormy weather to arrive.
Tomorrow we go see the lawyer for the signing of the will documents. Getting there is a bit of a PITA, as the highway is closed for the summer and we’ll have to take a roundabout route. But in the end, the paperwork will be done and dusted, which is a good thing.
I’ve decided to give tart cherry juice a try. It’s supposed to have a number of benefits. We’ll see.
They didn’t serve bacon every morning, so sometimes I had to settle for sausage or ham. But I told the cook to put “everything” in the omelette – cheese, onions, peppers, bits of ham, sometimes mushrooms and/or tomatoes. The omelette was too big to fit all of it into the sandwich, so I’d cut off the third or half that was sticking out and eat it after I finished the sandwich.
Good morning. Up, caffeinated, showered, and fed (not necessarily in that order). Breakfast was toasted croissant bread with strawberries and honey with some cherries and watermelon on the side. It’s fruit season!
Squeaky has to work this evening, so it’s another early dinner. I’ll be grilling some Stuffed Italian Burgers in a little bit alongside some squash.
Other than that and yoga, it’s a quiet, lazy day here at Casa d’Magill.
80 today. Supposed to be 86 tomorrow. My kind of weather but hate sweating. They havent turned the A/C on yet, which is fine down here but the 6th floor people are not happy.
Afternoon all. Mowage has been completed, only two bags worth of clippings done but with rain due on Wednesday and then generally wet conditions for the week following, twas best be done now. Will head off to the gym for a little bit, that pecan roll is sitting in my belly giving off calories, so need to tamp it down. Otherwise just concentrating on staying cool (it’s 85F now with lots of sunshine).
Taters, glad you can coordinate things with sister. And I hate to say it but Zeus needs some professional training if he continues that behavior. And so far no burn but some sore spots.
The SPAM® fairy came!
(Also the alcohol pads.) With a dozen new cans and one already in the cupboard, I easily have a year’s supply.
So it’s Spam, Spam, Spam, Spam, Spam Spam, Alcohol pads, Spam, Spam, Spam, Spam, Spam and Spam?
boo fae, glad another band weekend is in the books as successful (travel maybe not so much).
red, hope the new/old computer does well.
Cookie, highway closed for summer? I’ve heard of highways closing for winter but that’s a new one to me.
And onward into the afternoon.
shoe I think you should call it Cranky.
I think so too!! After all one of your magic imaginary internet friends is ‘cranky’.
Happy Hippy-Versary!!!
the highway is closed for the summer
Is this a usual occurrence or a maintenance thing?
Home at last. I got the dink supports un-masked - we’ll caulk around the bottom parts and FCD wants to put leather strips on the top, so not quite finished. But after much fussing and cussing he got the idle set on the engine. It was idling around 1100 RPM instead of 650-700. But now it’s good, so yay!
We lunched at Texas Roadhouse and I ate waaaaaaay too much, but that translates to no supper. Maybe an apple later. I’m just glad to be home - for not doing much, I’m whipped!
I’m cranky under the best of circumstances. So that works.
Just started the car now - in case of troubles - but cranked up just fine.
Had a few extra minutes, so going into work with sparkly purple eyeliner AND sparkly purple mascara, cuz why not.
Also have brand new pants (WITH POCKETS!) featuring pizza slices.
Have a lunch bag with soooooouuuuuuup (and croutons!) plus crackers for the guacamole I have stashed, and a yogurt cuz I’ll want something sweet and my tummy haz been a bit rumbling after all the stress yesterday.
… just rememberedI have a half-bag of peanut M&Ms in my very-well-known stash spot by the drive-thru window (“Can I borrow a lighter?” I just nod, and ask them to put it back.) so this should be a happy shift.
