(Old) It is getting cold in the MMP

Mornin’ all. Up, semi-sheveled, caffinated & calorified at the better-than-Denny’s. About to launch into the meat of my day. Whatever that will be.

Cold early by our standards today, about 57/14 at sunrise, and now midmorning 76/24 which should be about the daily high. High thin clouds, so not beastly bright but not gloomy either. Those are predicted to mostly fade soon. A wet & gloomy Wed-Fri is on tap. The last predicted bout of wet gloom was mostly a fizzle, so we’ll see how this one comes out.

Boofae sorta covered all the specific feedback I might’ve made. Congrats to the good, boo to the bad, and good luck to all.

Cookie, one of things that always strikes me about pictures of young adult me is the evident optimism. Pix lately seem to be more neutral “Here we are”. I expect when I get to be your age it’ll be pessimism that somehow shows through regardless of facial expression or activity.

The cycle of life can be a mean bitch. And as you say, being reminded of that can be a mixed good/bad situation. I feels for ya; I truly do.

Morning, all.

No matter what you face this week, remember that you could be one of my students and facing your semester Economics Final instead.

Puts your problems into perspective, doesn’t it?

Have a BBQ to go to this afternoon, then home to bake more cookies. Just pegging out the fun meter around here!

Yes, yes it does. eek!

[for me the ‘eek’ final was statistics]

I never had to take Statistics or Economics or Psych or a lot of other classes that everyone else seems to have taken. Purdue didn’t require that of Engineering students.

Tobias and I just finished lunch. We’ll head to his house shortly and with luck he’ll nap a couple of hours. Fingers :crossed_fingers:.

Physics.

It’s been two decades, and I still hate photons.

You’re right. What’s really stupid is that I have zero to be unhappy about. We have a good retirement income, money in the bank, and we’re both relatively healthy. We lived a nomadic life and saw things that others can only dream of and feel like we were incredibly lucky to find our life’s loves at age 45. The problem with looking back is in letting oneself get all maudlin about it.

Very well said. I probably have more pent-up regrets and missed opportunities than many, but the key is to not re-litigate the past. Then was good, now is good, tomorrow will be good. Each differently good, but good nonetheless.

Thank goodness you’re still alive. I had begun to wonder.

As Boo said, Yeah. I enjoyed the various Econ I took, but that was then and this is now. I gotta say the emoticon totally makes your post; that choice was genius!

You need a few of them to be able to see well enough to find which end of the doobie to light, and to see the cat to not trip over it, but other than that, you seem to get along OK on rather fewer of them than I (or Her Ladyship) does.

Speaking of whom …

I got back from breakfast then golf around 1130. To find her still asleep. She emerged from bed just before 12 noon. She’d been a bit short on prior days and got her big dose of catch-up last night. At least it was still technically “Good morning” when we greeted. Shevelment is next.

FCM: Yaay for laundry & Tobias and best of all his nap so you can chill! And the impending departure of MIL to other’s care.

And good late morning to all. Made my Braunschweiger run soon as schools were in session but before the 9am rush hour, so traffic wasn’t too bad. 80 miles, 3 stops, about $82 spent on stuff (always end up buying other stuff) and home now with enough of my preferred lunch meat to get me through February. Waiting now for Champions League Soccer to start, so gym time will probably be later this afternoon or in the evening. Other than that not much on the timetable, so plenty of time to catch up on the MMP.

That bad? Hope John Hancock doesn’t disappoint.

rocky, enjoy the museums with the kids.

I’ve been working up to it for most of the year, right now I do 750 yards (30 lengths of the 25-yd pool) which takes me 25 minutes (I backstroke by the clock) and then add a few more lengths if I have some time left. Then 20+ minutes in the whirlpool to recuperate and then do another set. It also depends how crowded the pool is. I’ll probably go for the mile next week.

See the political threads…

Pilot, so sorry about the tech losing her Mom; glad you were there to offer some comfort.

Herald, Glad the weight loss is going well. I’ll never see 198lbs again, but still working my way downward (236.6lbs yesterday) and my goal for next year is 220lbs by the end of 2024. Heck, might make it back to a 40" waist for my pants!

shoe, about a B+ in the trash talking. As for what’s going on, I recommend Andy Griffin’s ‘country boy’ routine of "What it was, was football’ for a good laugh: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N8j2sAJjGrI

One of my favorites too; I remember in my youth seeing an animated “A Christmas Carol” featuring Mr. Magoo which was my introduction to the story and loving it.

Sari, those are pretty hefty dogs you have there. And selling an old house ain’t much fun I guess; hope the deal goes through soon, that’ll take one load off you. Hope your Albanian friend can get help soon. Will any shelters house her dog for a little while? And getting stuff done little by little will lead to it all getting done; be patient.

Cat Glove, that was a pretty well-insulated walk.

FCM, safe driving this weekend.

Taters, that’s a terrible response to a serious issue by HR. Hope it’s solved by now.

talkie, hope the work situation gets figured out, sounds like the stress on your team is getting intolerable. Hope it can be worked out. And yeah, if idiot teacher tries the “Flunk” routine, I’d be in the principal’s office first thing. They probably won’t have the guts to do that, but might mark her down a grade level, that’s harder to dispute. Some people (even teachers) are just jerks.

boo fae, good news about Shadow and the gifts arriving.

Cookie, I don’t think I have changed all that much, hope the memories die down as they should.

quietly, Economics was why I didn’t graduate Summa Cum Laude from College, so I can understand your student’s trepidation (TBF, if you had been my teacher I would have probably done much better that with the fossils they had teaching me in college).

OK, think I’m mostly caught up. Onward into the afternoon now. Take care all.
.

Can she go and just mouth the words?

Hey, a passing grade!

(Shoe’s Mother: “where are the missing points?!?”)

In order:

  • that’s an OK attitude
  • you’re sweet
  • that’s a messed up attitude, angels luv all God’s chilluns

Compromise: can her dog stay with you, so she knows it has a safe place while she stays with her lovely relatives?

I like most versions, but yes, the Scott version is my favorite of the ones made according to the original story.

For versions that twist things around, I really, really like Scrooged, with Bill Murray. His television dialogue at the end is priceless.

Yesterday was kind of a bad day.

Still on the outs with my mother, so I didn’t call her yesterday (my usual day off, so she expects a call) but I did text my dad - no reply.

I couldn’t deal with her; I was already having problems, and 1a.) would not have had the mental energy to de-escalate, and 2b.) it’s not like she woulda helped.
However, I also didn’t want the cops sent to my door for a wellness check, and I wouldn’t have minded talking to my dad, hence, the text.

Couldn’t sleep well - too much frettin’ about wolves at my door, which led to lots of lying around awake, worrying.

But I did eat  and scooped Monkey’s box, and brought back in the trash bin. Yay, go me.
As of today, the little twerp handsome lovebug has gotten gooshy-food, and chased some treats, and even got some outside time.

Still need to set up a fresh rat enclosure. Just. Could. Not. Yesterday. Partially because every friggin’ bin had chew holes in them - lots went out to the trash last weekend.

I gotta get my poop in a group now. Have eaten today.

Need to chop my hair again, so a long, hot shower followed by some scissors is likely in my near future, since I’m “early out” tonight so should be about a 4 hr shift.

ETA: can’t pay bills on 4 hrs. Hence the fretting, and the wolves. But I’m trying to get on that.

ETA 2: oh, I close tonight? Okay.

Computer issues today. My webmail isn’t receiving emails from my work address. I was on hold with a tech person (I’m not in my blocked senders list, and I am in my Address book), when I got a call on another issue that’s happening on my work computer. So webmail had to wait.

The other issue: I will save webpages as .pdf files. For example, I might look up a business on the Secretary of State website, and save it to my ‘Supporting documents’ folder. Control+P, Save, give it a name and save it. The download process starts, and when it’s done there’s an ‘Open’ link under the download. Click on Open, then save the file wherever. Only, the download never finishes. There is no ‘Open’ to open the download. The solution is to go to your Downloads folder (as opposed to the drop-down in Edge), find the downloaded file, rename it as a .pdf file, and then save it where it needs to be. Either that, or use Google Chrome because it works. It seems Microsoft came out with a New & Improved Version of Edge. Only they forgot to check to see if the download as .pdf works.

Howdy Y’all! We did errands and it was not too bad. Not so peopley out this mornin’, so YAY! Sloth, nappage, and day drinkin’ were also accomplished. An early sup of leftovers has been et and the kitchen cleanded up. All is well in swampland.

Quietly first, good to hear from ya. Been a while. Also, :astonished:test! :astonished: Now I’ll probably have a nightmare wherein I am takin’ a test I didn’t study for in my underwear while killer mimes attack, or some such nonsense.

BooFae glad Shadow had a good checkup and got his favorite fishy food as a reward.

Taters hope the situation with the allegedly terminated person got fixed. I imagine this has not been fun for him. Stoopid HR!

shoe hope the wolves are held at bay.

flyboy that’s a lot of computer issues in one day. You deserve several adult beverages of your choice.

I’m happy with my Samsung A14. Out the door for ~$225.

I had a choir teacher like that in HS. Between failing students who got sick and showing blatant favoritism for kids whose parents were politically connected, most of us dropped out by our junior year.

Irked (they had me sorting some REP cores, then doing presort before going back to my desk late in the afternoon.

Came home, walked Nelson, et and am now dixing to do KP.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Thanks - I’ll check it out!

On the ride to the airport, FCD found out TX SIL is a Hannity-loving racist. She likes where she lives because there aren’t many blacks or Mexicans. We shouldn’t be surprised since BIL was a right-wing fundy racist. Kinda makes me wonder what she really thinks about my son-in-law and grandkids… But she’s back in TX and I doubt we’ll see her again.

Tobias didn’t nap, the rotten kid!

Chillage in store for tonight.

Today I got up before 6, despite the fact I couldn’t get to sleep last night. I hustled to get ready, summoned an Uber, and got to the eye doctors’ only to be told my appointment is Friday. Madonn’. I grabbed a bus to the mall and got some stocking stuffers at see’s and one gift for a friend who may or may not give me something. Gotta be prepared!

It always makes me happy to see someone use “Chicagoland.” I miss it so.

{Checks the Smarts-o-meter.],Not stupid attitude at all. In fact, you’re midway between Stephen Hawking and Cecil.

It does. My main problem is I’m not young and foolish. When you’re young, you think foolish is fixable.

But they loooove you! Now they’ll be disappointed and go all negative.

Shoe, I hope you get some happy news soon. You’re way past due.

So Midnight was busy, so we started late. But between that and the sort Aisle sending smalls bags to the 300, I made hours. I did my aldi run, and had my nap. Watching hockey and having Redneck Stirfry.

Economics was a breeze. Calculus, now that was a hair raiser.

Sounds like the time they transferred an Assistant manager to my store who had been an acting store manager, which managed to wipe out all my logins and access. I had to call the DM, because when I called the Helpdesk, they had a meltdown because I was apprently listed as “terminated”.

“It was the Invisible Mole People!” - Misiu

I’d make fun of you, but I don’t want to make light of your problems.

Hope that helps you beat off the wolves.

Evening all. Just back from the gym and my pedaling, brain was taking the night off, first I left my key in the lock on my locker (not disturbed at all) and was so disconcerted about it that I forgot to get my sauna time in. Still feel pretty good from all the pedaling I did. Some sloth and popcorn will end the day right.

Have to get up tomorrow and move some furniture around so the Plumbers can take up the carpet to get to the slab and the leak. I’ll see when they get here and we’ll decide how to handle it…I am still tempted to tell them to take the whole line to the 2nd bathroom (that line has been the source of several leaks) out and replace it, but have to find out what that will run dollar-wise.

Shoe, hang in there. Not worth talking to Mom-unit if all it is going to do is upset you. Your health and well-being is most important–to us Mumpers at least.

OK, that’s all for this evening. Catch up with you all tomorrow.

yanker I am so happy for you; that is wonderful!

The things you learn on here.

For potlucks at the office I worked at before I retired from FT, I would make green bean casserole under my desk in a crockpot. Most people love green bean casserole. I revised mine to be not as bland as the traditional casserole by adding freshly ground black pepper & garlic powder.

What is ‘not much’? Mom had my sister just shy of her 41st birthday, both my Babcias (grandmothers) had my parents when they were about the same age. I know a lot of women who gave birth after age 30, even their first child, my sister had my nephew (her only child) when she was 39.

It wasn’t a great day. I’m sorry but I can’t type any details because as I think about it, I keep getting emotional. Hopefully, things will resolve positively tomorrow.

Best to all!

Yankers, I’m thrilled for you. I know just how wonderful it is to get your eyes back, and you deserve every bit of joy coming your way.

CatGlove, I’m sorry you had a bad day. You’ll be in my prayers tonight, and I hope tomorrow brings you better news, a more optimistic perspective, and serenity.

shoe, MetalMouse put it perfectly. We all love you and want you to be happy.

sari, I hope Mishiu learns that table legs aren’t chew sticks.

boo, as always, good to see you here.

To everyone, hugs and good wishes. As my mother used to say, quoting Matthew, “Sufficient unto the day is the trouble thereof.”
