(Old) It is getting cold in the MMP

Back when I played with wax to the point of buying stearic acid (so I could achieve better “whiteness”) I never sold them, but gave them as gifts.

The financial decision there was that by making “free” gifts, I didn’t have the expenditure of buying people stuff.

I didn’t know you made candles. I love scented candles. If you ever do happen to make them let me know and I will buy some. I bought two candles last year that have just been too pretty to burn, they are more like sculptures.

Nope, never. Nothing even remotely business-related.

Rotten grandson barely napped. He thinks he can get away with it because he’s cute… little stinker!

I am so ready to crash.

Oh, good thought! I’ll bet candles made and sold by another Doper would be a great Secret Santa gift!

We don’t burn candles here because of jerkface cats, but I’d love to buy some as gifts.

shoe, do you make glitter candles? If so, I would like to order a couple of green candles and a couple of red ones!

Today I learned such a thing exists.

… so … no.

(Not yet?)

That will be CtE on Monday (HS senior). I took mine over 30 years ago. No thank you!

For me, it was my theoretical math classes in college. Abstract Geometry. shudder I loved my Calc classes, my Diff Eq class but the abstracts just broke my brain.

I love the Patrick Stewart version. His laugh, starting like a rusty, disused thing and becoming so full seemed the most genuine visual of Scrooge at that point.

I’m very grateful for CtE’s choir teacher when I hear about teachers like this. If a kid has to miss for any reason (and CtE has had a breakdown before the concert started) she gives them a make-up assignment. I just don’t get any teacher failing a kid for something beyond their control.

Nellie, from the things you’ve said, I think we all would have loved your mom for the kind, caring and supportive woman she was. You’re carrying on her legacy in that.

On my end, I’m still getting used to my body holding on to less spoons than I’d like. Monday I made cookies. Yesterday I was going to make more but just going to the grocery store sapped most of my energy. I had book club last night so I wanted to save some spoons for that.

Today’s been better though. I managed to make the chocolate chocolate chip cookies and mix up the date cookies that need to chill overnight. Tomorrow I’ll bake those and the jam thumbprints, then I just have to box them up.

I think I’ve finally finished all the Christmas shopping. I was going to try to get gifts wrapped this week but it had turned into a really busy one. Between the cookies and three book clubs meeting this week, plus having to take CtE to therapy tonight… yeah, not happening. I need to make time in here to make sure BtY is studying for exams that might be their only chance of passing this semester. Next week looks calmer though, so I’ll probably have time next week to take care of it.

Tomorrow I’ve got my evaluation PT appointment for my hands. I’m really hoping that I can start making some progress. Between my hands and my back, I’m tired of being unable to do the things I enjoy. So here’s hoping that my PT can work miracles for me.

And one would think we’d learned back in 2020 just how bad an idea it is having a sick person in a crowd of people who were healthy before being exposed to said sick person.

You’d think, but there are far too many that want blinders on and want us back to the old normal where we don’t give a flying farkus about it fellow man.

Did you take any chem classes?

I like the Muppet version.

Yeah, we needed 2 semesters of Chem, 2 of Physics, and I don’t recall how many in the Calculus family. I’d met all my Gen Ed requirements before getting there (I’d been a language major the first time I went to college) so all the rest of my classes were Engineering. It was a rough 3 years…

Home at last. Peace reigns. That’s all I’ve got.

I am so sorry you are going through this. I really hope the PT helps, I know I really miss doing things I used to love before I got gimpy.

Today I learned that the annual Cookies with Santa event is expecting to host around 200 kids. Holy cow, I didn’t know we had that many kids out here. Free range kids aren’t a thing anymore* and there is nothing for kids to do besides go to the library or maybe to the postage sized park and play on the swings.

After Tai Chi tomorrow I’m heading into town to buy stockings and gift bags, they only have about half of what they need and there isn’t time to order online. They have a large storage room at the community center for the CWS event so if I run across clearance sale stuff in January, I won’t have to deal with storing it.

Today was surplus produce and my routine got messed with. I see several ladies picking their produce up in a wagon and walking home. I didn’t think much about it in the summer, the mornings are still cool enough for walking but now its gotten cold. Last week I got to the hand out spot early and hung out long enough to check with them and today I picked two of them up on my way. Everyone, me included, was impressed with how much room I have in my little econobox because we were able to load up four large boxes and 4 crates of flavored waters without anyone having to sit on someone else’s lap!

Besides the usual winter fare we got small bags of spicy dill pickle potato chips. I’ll just take those to the library and leave them for some kids to find.

I split my box up with NF and Chicken Guy (we certainly can’t use 4 bags of romaine hearts so it is good to have friends!) and put their bags on the back porch to get them out of the way and keep them cool because it is easier than pushing things around in the cheese fridge.

I’ve been over producing cheese because winter is smoking season and we both eat smoked cheese first. (This year I’m going to learn how to smoke cream cheese, the grocery store stuff is pretty good but we usually like the fresh stuff better.)

It’s much easier to find room in the cheese fridge in the summer because that’s when we are eating our way through last winter’s work.

*I’m sure they are somewhere, but not here. I watch parents walk less than a block to the bus stop with their 8 and 9 year old children every day and just shake my head.

Howdy Y’all! Provisions were procured and we chowed down on fried chikin N.O.L.s. This was followed, of course, by nappage. Then we day drank. Bourbon and ginger ale today. The excitatement around here never ends!

Cat_Glove glad all it was is a delay in the transplant. Hope hubs is over his ailment soonest and all goes well from now on.

shoe I think I already said yay for the raise, so yay again!

MetalMouse hope the plumbers got there and figured out the leak.

Finally put on pants semi clean PJs, and bestirred myself a bit.

Obtained an assortment of goodies for Secret Santa  and spent more than I’d mentally budgeted, but fuck it this is probably my only gift recipient this year.

Tomorrow, I’ll get a suitably sized box at work (I already know exactly which product I want to restock so I can take the empty carton) then I’ll paint it and get it sent on its merry way.

I’m hoping to quill a cute little postcard to include.

Also bought chicken boobies and butter, so dinner is sorted for a bit. One boobie is gonna go in the oven once I get off my ass, one will get wrapped and frozen, and one will hang out for dinner in the next coupla days.
I have teensy weensie potatoes that need to get eaten soon, plus onions, so my usual bake will be forthcoming.

Once I get off my ass.

Then, I have GOT to get a new rat enclosure going, and/or wash and cut my damn hair.

May the gods in which I do not believe send me the spoons to do both.

Covid went through choirs like a chainsaw through butter. Let’s deeply breath in those contaminants!

When you get to the post office, please remember that paying extra for expedited shipping doesn’t mean you are promised expedited shipping. It just means you gave the post office more money while knowing that they will deliver your package with their usual speed and care. In other words, it is going to be late no matter how much you give them so save your money.

At this rate, you may be money ahead to do it.

{{{shoe}}} But YAY for the raise.

{{{cat glove}}} Glad that there’s just a delay in the transplant. Sending good vibes in the direction of the mitten state.

I decided to put in for a PTO day for tomorrow just because I could. Plans are to do some reading and playing in the studio. If I get out of PJs, it will be to take the small beast to the dog park.

This afternoon, when I was in the laundry room putting kibble in the jar that I keep a week’s worth in the kitchen, I decided to break out a new toy for Nelson from the stash. This one is a Santa the same size and shape as his lovey Rocky Raccoon. It was a hit. He’s been playing like a puppy most of the evening. Since Rocky is getting a bit ragged looking and lost his squeek a couple of years ago, I figured that we’d gradually break in his replacement. :stuck_out_tongue:

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

My right contact lens has been getting progressively hurtier, and today it was just too painful to wear. Turns out it’s got a big tear in it. I think the left one is starting to tear, too. I called the eye clinic to ask where the heck the three pairs ordered 7 weeks ago went. “Should be any day now.” I hope so. I got spoiled with all that seeing stuff and don’t want to go back to Blurberg.

I got my shots. A chemo patient got to ring the bell today. It always moves me to tears. The staff all sing a song, and there are bubbles and hugs, and we all applaud.

The last gift I ordered arrived today, so I can finish wrapping and hopefully get things boxed. Tomorrow I’ll haul them to the PO in my babushka cart, then pick up my Rx for antibiotics. I’m supposed to take 4 just before my dentist appointment Friday. Antibiotics usually make my stomach feel like a small badger is trying to chew its way out, so ugh. I’ll pick up some yogurt while I’m out.

Flyboy, I’m hoping it’s something caught under the gum. I use a flosser, so I can’t do the knot, but that’s a great tip, and I’ll pass it on. I floss and Waterpik daily. You think that’d be enough, but I guess not. I just hope it’s not a root canal and crown scenario. Oh! And my dentist told me NOT to use mouthwash on sore gums. I don’t recall why. I’m going to try it, though. Do you combine them or use them sequentially.

Thank you, shoe and fish, for the kind words about my mom. She really was a very loving and accepting person. I wish I were more like her. Unlike Mom, I’ve said worse about people than “She has problems.” :grimacing:

red, I love that you have a hidden toy stash for Nelson!

I combine them.

If you looked in the dictionary under ‘free range kid’ back in the day, there would have been a picture of me.

MEN! We picked up the new 'scrip this afternoon which was a bit of a clusterblank cause we got to the pharmacy at about 2:40 and didn’t get the 'scrip until 3:25. Reason: first, there seemed to be a million people in line (slight exageration), second, they didn’t have the right strength (milligrams) but they did have lesser which was half of the correct dosage so we said, JUST GIVE US DOUBLE! Then they said, we only have enough for 3 days instead of 10 but we can order it. So, obvi we said, ORDER THE DARN STUFF! As soon as the clerk brought the bag to the counter, I said please just give it to Hubs, he needs to take it stat! So, I helped him push 4 of the capsules through the bubble packet and take them before he paid for anything. (there was also a refill of one of his normal 'scrips). He’s supposed to take 2 capsules (now 4 of the stuff the pharmacy had) 4 times a day. So, I said, now that you’ve taken one dose at 3:25, take the next at 8:00 (4-1/2 hrs later) and another at 12:30 then you can go on 6:00, noon, 6:00, midnight schedule. Well, he just walked past and I noticed it was 8:35 so I asked did you take your pills? Answer: no. So, I said as he was walking out to go to the recycling bin, go take your pills now! Well, when he took 2 more steps toward recycling bin, I said PUT THAT STUFF DOWN RIGHT NOW WHERE YOU ARE AND GO TAKE YOUR DAMN PILLS! So stuff for recycling bin was put down and he turned around and went and took his pills. I think I need to set timers on his phone.

Thanks All for the hugs and the sweet sentiments. Here are some hugs right back { }, { }, { }

Besides picking up the 'scrips, we made a stop at the office so I could make a copy of all my passwords for the various things I need access to, and made copies of the handouts on Stem Cell Transplant and Cellular Therapy Pre-Admission and Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant Nutrition Therapy for our daughter, went to the Fitness Center and worked out then made a very quick stop in front of Kroger so Hubs could go in and get a circular.

As soon as we got home, I went downstairs to get 2 redskin potatoes to boil then make Crash Hot Potatoes for Hubs. We had smoked Lake Trout (that Hubs had caught this summer up north in Traverse Bay), acorn squash and the Crash Hot Potatoes for Hubs and 1/2 a leftover sweet potato for me.

Afterwards, I’ve been mumping while sorta watching/listening to the PBS show (that I dvr’d) on the 2023 Gershwin Prize for Popular Song for my very favorite female singer - Joni. I really think she should have married Graham. He sang A Case of You in tribute and while he sang they showed pictures of the two of them from back in the '60’s. I sang along to all the songs.

So, the cookie making will have to wait until tomorrow.

Yay for Nelson getting a new toy. Bella loves squeaky toys. This reminds me that I need to stop at the pet store tomorrow to get some Christmas presents for Bella.

I highly recommend the ones made by Zippy Paws or InvinciMinis. They’re essentially plush covered squeakies, no fiber fill. The squeaky itself is pretty durable, even if you have a puppy (word to taters, yanker and sari).
