(Old) It's a matter of taste in the MMP

Back from the shopping, have my sammich fixings set until my Summer travels (9-19 July) and really don’t feel inspired to do much of anything. Probably will go to the gym because the habit is so ingrained in me now but doubt I will be working out very hard. Temperature is up to 84F at 10:30am so working outside is definitely not in my future.

Taters, when I travel, especially overseas a lot of realtors have postings on their windows and some of the prices in resort areas… :scream: :exploding_head:

Mollie, my town has a parade planned for 2 July, fireworks on the 3rd and a minor league baseball game (with more fireworks) on the 4th. Enjoy the booth work and stay dry.

FCM, Since home refrigeration didn’t get going until the 20th century and keeping things cool wasn’t until the 18th century (per Wikipedia), I hazard a guess most of the seasoning was to disguise less-than-favorable flavors. IMHO only.

VanGo, hope the back gets to feeling better.

flyboy, I gotcha, hope it settles in soon.

And guess I will get up and…do something. Take care all.

Once again I didn’t even have the time to lurk in the MMP this week, so once again I’ve only gone back 24 hours for in-depth reading. One of these days I won’t have to skip four entire days of posts every week…

In addition to still being slammed at work (due to filling in for Quitty McQuitterson), I took Thursday off in order to take HusbandBFF to DC for a prostate biopsy. The doc said his previous test results indicated a 60% chance of cancer; they’ll get the biopsy results in a couple of weeks. :crossed_fingers: :crossed_fingers: WifeBFF doesn’t drive due to her own health/mobility issues, but she came with us and used a hospital wheelchair while we were there. They were both very glad that I was the one who could take them. They were super supportive when I had my bariatric surgery at the end of 2021; I’m happy I was able to return the favor.

Speaking of my surgery, yesterday morning I had an appointment with the bariatric center: the nurse practitioner was so happy with my weight and recent lab results that I don’t have to go back again for a year (vs in 3-6 months)! Annual follow-ups are a goal I’ve been trying to reach since I had the bypass. And, my surgeon happened to be at the office chatting with the NP when I arrived: I hadn’t seen him since my procedure, so it was nice to get to say hi and thank him.

Yesterday I also got rid of the last of the empty moving boxes that were in my house. :tada: I was able to give all of them away. It was great to finally not have flattened boxes piled up everywhere, and it inspired me to check some other things off my to-do list: I put new bulbs in three ceiling light fixtures and replaced the master bathroom’s “spa” showerhead with a handheld model, and earlier this morning I ordered a replacement kitchen faucet (with my property manager’s permission). The previous tenants installed this weird thing that I don’t like one bit:

Home Depot will do the install: I should hear from them early next week, and the faucet should be delivered on Wednesday. The cleaners will come for the first time on July 6, and I have landscapers coming on July 9 to (finally) prune the large overgrown tree next to the front door. The only big thing left on my list is to hang all of my pictures/artwork, and I plan to start that this weekend. The place actually looks kind of weird without all of the cardboard, but I’ll get used to it.

Time to catch up on some Lego photos…

Here’s the wolf that I finished on Sunday:

And here is the Tribute to Leonardo da Vinci gift-with-purchase set I just got, which I decided to assemble last night because it’s small and didn’t take long at all:

After that one I started building Snoopy’s Doghouse (while thinking of @Kitten_Mitten ). I got through bags 1-4 last night, which included Snoopy and Woodstock:

This afternoon I’ll work on the doghouse. I’m not sure if I’ll finish everything today, but it should be done tomorrow at the latest. For those who want to see bigger/more pictures, here’s a link to my online photo album (in order of completion).

Aside from starting to hang things on the walls, I don’t have a big to-do list or plans this weekend. I see a lot of Lego bricks and The Good Wife episodes in my immediate future, and I’m quite happy about it. I’m also quite happy that this coming Friday is a federal holiday (it’s when Independence Day is observed).

I don’t want to deal with the crap that would come with marrying for money, but I don’t think I’m too old to be adopted by a wealthy family…

:people_hugging:

75F but feels like 80s. Not looking forward to the coming week. We did some preemptive shopping and will likely be living on cold salads. I’ll make a big Waldorf today, then a shrimp/pasta later in the week. Picked up a half-dozen peaches. Tonight will be salmon filets and broccoli. Maybe rice.

All puzzles puzzed except for one (shakes fist at the NYT crossword). Queen Bee on the Spelling Bee, though.

A glorious day here! It’s currently 56F and climbing to only 63F, overcast with showers. This is a day to throw open the windows!

Van Gogh, I hope you get some sleep.

metal mouse, you would be appalled at the things I do around my place in inappropriate attire and a state of not-ready-for-public-viewing. Here’s a story for your amusement:

Once I was coloring my hair. And eyebrows. I always strip down to the buff to do this messy process. They hair dye turns an interesting shade of purple while it “processes,” in hairdresser parlance. After I gooped up, I looked like a deranged Groucho Marx, sans moustache.

Then I spied one of my indoor kitties, Callie, outside, where she was not supposed to be! I have no idea how she engineered her escape, but there she was. I panicked.

I gave brief consideration to darting out the door nude, but at the last moment, I quickly grabbed my ratty old housecoat that looks like it was a castoff from the Salvation Army in another decade. I shoved my feet into my bright green garden clogs and dashed awkwardly out across the yard, coaxing, “Kitty, kitty, kitty!”

Callie was coy. She slunk just out of reach. It was clear the purple hair and eyebrows were making her nervous. We paced a bit further away from the house. She skittled into the forest and made like she was going to scamper even deeper into the woods. Ugh.

At long last with a bit of leftover ham, I induced Callie to join me. I hoisted her under my arm and we began our little hike back to the house.

We were halfway there when I heard the familiar toot of our local United Parcel Service fellow < nod to doggio >, who was pulling into the yard like a wayward NASCAR driver. There was nowhere to hide. I was a good hundred yards away from any structure into which I might take cover. There was no tree trunk in my immediate vicinity large enough to duck behind. It’s two in the afternoon, I am standing there in my vintage housecoat – agape, I might add, but for which I am now profoundly thankful – my flattering green garden clogs, purple hair and eyebrows and clutching a distressed and determined cat squirming like a sackful of snakes and who, if she could talk, would probably be howling she has been taken hostage by a frothing sanitarium escapee. Who am I to argue?

The UPS driver struggled mightily to keep it off his face. He failed.

“Shall I leave this over here?” he asked with exceeding care and, making no sudden moves, indicated a spot where he might leave the package.

“Yes, yes, please, if you would be so kind,” I replied, with as much dignity as I could muster. Not much.

He slowly set the package down, never taking his eyes off me, then beat a hasty retreat to the safety of his truck. The truck flew out of my yard. I could hear him hitting gears as he hightailed it back to the main road. Never saw that driver again.

One is never safe from public viewing! You were wise to put on your shorts! And glad you got your Braunschweiger supply replenished!

FCM, Tequila Grill sounds like a fine place for breakfast, even if only occasionally. Glad you got good value.

I’m with swampy on this. If you catch me nekkid on my own place, you get what you deserve.

Yup. I first encountered those in Montana, more than < mumble > fort – < mumble > years ago.

I, too, am glad to be learning for the reasons so well stated by boofae. Thanks for sharing your journey.

Very witty.

Nice Lego work, oopsie! Thanks for sharing the photos! And I’m with you on the faucet. The one you’re replacing is… odd.

Yesterday out with friends for lunch was very pleasant. We enjoyed wonderful Thai food and had some good laughs. The drive turned out to be no big deal due to my strategy of staying off the main route. I encountered only a few garage sale devotees on the road, and they were all sane.

Speaking of photos, my friend got some really good ones of Ollie. Unfortunately, she only knows how to text me and not email me from her phone. She did text them to me so I have them on my phone, but I, also a dummy when it comes to phone stuff, am having trouble figuring out how to email them to my computer. I don’t want to pair up the phone and the computer, which complicates things. I’ve been watching tutorials, but so far, no joy. Will keep trying. Next time, I’ll just hand her my camera.

Some days I wonder how I manage to put on pants.

I hope everyone has a better day today than yesterday.

The floors are clean, the laundry is moving, and the guest room is clean. Time for shower.

Umm sir, there is no skinny dipping allowed here - chunky dunk only.

@Taters I slept on that pillow you suggested a while back and really love it. Not sure that the cooling gel works that well but it’s super supportive and perfect for side sleeping.

oopsie Great news from the doc, and good on you for being able to help out your friends. Also, WTF is that kitchen “faucet”? :face_with_monocle:

Bright Tree oh that was an amazing and hilarious story! Thanks for the badly needed laugh today!

Today has been a bit of an exercise in futility. I went to three different stores trying to find some storage for my closet - nothing fancy, but something like some stackable totes or something. Target in theory had the nicest options (a shelf with cubes for decorative fabric bins) but all of their stock was pretty badly beaten up. I finally just got some clear plastic totes with lids from Lowe’s. I hope I got enough, but their stock was wiped out and I’ll have to go to another store if I need more.

I was hot and sweaty by the time I got home (it already feels like 105F out) so I’m trying to cool off and maybe finally eat something before I try tackling getting the closet organized.

BBBoo: thanks very much for the detailed explanation of how to remove tape from sensitive skin. It will come in handy for Hubs and other friends with old paper-thin skin.

Didn’t set an alarm last night; woke up at 7:10 so didn’t make it to the office by 7am.
Was able to get most of the work done that needed to be done before I had to leave for Duck Day. Bought 2 ducks, one green and one purple, then went in the LG room to talk to the Aquatic Supervisor. She added pass to the outdoor pools to my tag for my Silver Sneakers registration. Turned out they weren’t going to send the ducks down the slide for another hour, 20 minutes so I went back to the office and not only was able to complete the work that hadn’t been completed, but I checked the General Ledger to ensure that one of the Subsidiary Ledgers was in agreement. It wasn’t. Investigated and found I had entered an incorrect project number back on 6/16 so I made a correcting entry. Now the SL & GL will be in agreement for FYE 6/30. Received a text from Aquatic Supervisor that the duck launch would happen in 15 minutes so I hustled to clock out and drive back to the aquatic complex.

They’ve been doing Duck Day for 3 or 4 years. They significantly improved it this year. They had duck related crafts for the children. One of the guards encouraged me to make a duck crown. There were coloring sheets, chalk to draw on the cement pool deck. There were quite a few different games that the participants could play. There were some giveaways for the children: sunglasses, flourescent bracelets, beach balls, etc Finally it was time for the ducks to slide down the giant slide then swim (float) across the pool. Much cheering by the crowd. A pink duck won.

I thought she was going to say “oh, that’s Mr. Grohler’s order”.

they turned out so cute!

omgosh, I’m having PTSD. Yesterday my neighborhood was having a garage sale. I thought I was driving down my street carefully on the way to Kroger, about 25mph. All of a sudden I heard a huge shriek. When I looked back, there was a grandfather looking guy who had pulled a youngster back who had started to dart out between 2 parked cars. I think if the gent hadn’t pulled back the child, I would have hit him. :worried:

Really enjoyed the drone show last night. Parked in a place a few blocks away from the park where the viewing was. On the way passed the field where the drones were sitting on the grass. Spoke to the operator. They used 200 drones in the show. The shapes made by the drones related to the history of the country and at least one was for our city. So, as I remember, there was the signing of the declaration of independence with a quill pen, the statue of liberty, US flag with 250th birthday, model T, pinwheeling stars, Rosie the riveter, the US Marines planting the flag on Iwo Jima, ended with the words E Pluribus Unum then Out of Many, One. crowd cheered and clapped.

Received our ballots for the August primary yesterday. I already know who I’m voting for in some of the races but need to do some research on some of the other positions. Hubs left for a golf date with a former neighbor so perhaps I’ll get on that research now.

It was a day. There’s about 200 people on Preload, and about 30 are on vacation/leave right now. And about 40 are M-F, and unlike me don’t have to keep a tuxedo-ed lush in gin, so they don’t work Saturdays. So when 24 people called out today it was bad. As in missing loaders, full cages, and having to pile the excess on carts. Plus they did start bringing damages over till 10. There were still some things when the manager yeeted me out of there at noon. Apparently they want to keep part timers under 7 hours, since Carol is tired of spending the yacht waxing money on Spot’s gin. So I came home, showered, and started laundry. I’m re-hydrating with a gin and tonic currently.
Also, YouTube has let me know that techno mariachi music is a thing.

Part “this leftover cow tastes less bad with the ground up weeds Og found” and part “the only was this mastodon, beans, and rice could be better if it hurt to eat it.”

If their Installation Dept. is anything like their Shipping Department, your sink is gonna look like Berlin after the Red Army got hold of it.

Ma’am, you’re supposed to wash it before it achieves sentience and starts looking for strange new worlds to explore.

I say that most days.

Since she texted them to you, can’t you just email them to yourself as an attachment? That’s how I do it. Or I post them on FB (for my eyes only) then open FB on the computer and get them that way.

The freezers are stocked! I made 3 meatloaves (23 oz each - I weighed them to be sure they were even) and 6 quarts (I dunno for sure - 4 ladle scoops) of veggie-beef-barley soup. I’m still stuffded from breakfast - maybe I’ll have an apple later. Maybe not. That was one BIIIIIIG omelet!. And I didn’t eat the whole thing - I’ll have the rest for breakfast tomorrow.

Dishwasher is sloshing along, kitteh litter has been rollsucked, along with the traffic area of the bedroom - holy crap, does that little critter shed! I guess she’ll go bald as she gets older.

I think I’ve earned some recliner time.

Pretty sure that’s actually a shower for a parrot. It’d be really good for that anyway.

When I lived in Bristol, I remember on one hot day lying nekkid on the bed, by the window- with the curtains open cos that side of the house wasn’t overlooked at all, when a hot air balloon suddenly appeared over the neighbour’s place, flying realllly low to land in the park nearby. I didn’t wave.

Lazy day of slobbing today. I pottered about a bit in the garden, but that was about it.

There’s a lot of tomatoes forming, and the tomatillos are covered in flowers now. I planted out some more lettuce (and picked some), cleared out the rocket that’s bolted (left one cos I like putting the flowers on salads, makes it look all posh), and I should have the first summer squish any day now.

I reckon I’m gonna have an early night to get plenty of rest from all the not doing anything.

That is exactly what I attempted to do. I got this message back on my phone in response: “(Undelivered Mail Returned to Sender) This is the mail system at host bbtpnj33vzwvmta-c-rh-cmta-01-s.”

Huh?

I did also receive the emailed text to my email address. On my phone. Where I already have it. Not on my computer.

I’m going to call my computer guru on Monday. He’ll be able to help. Thanks all the same for the suggestions.

Regarding attire at home - our house sits at least 100’ back from the street, mostly shielded by assorted foliage and a slight rise. The garage is on the end by the side street, and there’s a shed between the back of the house and the side street plus much foliage that blocks the view into the back windows. On the other side, there’s lots of foliage, but I usually keep that curtain closed because the neighbor keeps an outdoor light on all night.

Anyway, from the back, even if you’re in the yard, you can’t see anything below our necks if we’re in the bedroom, and the bathroom window is too high and too small to afford any view. Kitchen and dining room are another matter, but no one comes into our yard uninvited - Otis sees to that. And unless someone stands right at the front windows or door, they’re not going to see anything unless it’s dark outside and we have the inside lights on. Bottom line, if you press your nose up against that window, you might be treated to the bottom line on occasion. So far, we’ve gone 22 years without scaring anyone.

And that’s my submission to TMI Theater.

I hope you planted more than 1. I did that a couple of years ago, apparently they need cross pollination. I had a beautiful plant, but got zero fruit.

@Misnomer, I think you have the same Corelle dish pattern my mother did.

Howdy Y’all! We had quality cee-mint pond time for a while but gave up cause it got too hot. We are delicate little snowflakes after all! We’ve been inside and cool ever since. Various leftovers have been consumed and several little containers have been washed, dried and put where they stay until they get used again. Now I need some stoopid teevee and ice cream.

MOOOOOOM quality cee-mint pond time for me is on my float. I do not cure scurvy or drink beerverages whilst I float cause my float is not conducive to that. I once had a floaty chair with a cup holder, but got rid of that some years back when it got sad lookin’. Now I prefer a float with a mesh bottom that lets me both float and “be in” the water. I sit up at the bar under the gazebo when I wish to quaff as I am all civilized and stuff. Glad breakfast out was good. I think I read somewhere that sauces were originally used to cover up the smell/taste of questionable meat. Sounds plausible to me.

BooFae have fun at the festival! It does sound as if it’s quite a bit cooler than it has been for you.

Molly hope all goes well with the booth at the festival.

Oopsie you are a good friend, but everybody already knows that. Hooray for reachin’ the goal of annual followups! That is a significant milestone. Conga rats on bein’ box free. Also yay on installin’ the shower head. That kitchen faucet looks ridiculous.

BrightTree I am sure you gave the UPS guy a great story to tell at the Christmas party. See, always a silver linin’! Techno stuff bewilders me constantly. When I do figure stuff out, I swear it’s by accident not skill.

52 full disclosure, it is chunky dunk for me as well.

If’n it’s as hot as today, tomorrow may see me getting into the upper falls. This may result in some skinny dippin’, it has happened before. There will be no video record.

That you’ll know of…

Many times I walk to the corner where the stores and food places ( dunkin) are.
It takes 7 minutes. About a block from me, theres a house with fenced yard. During the summer ( this is the second time this year) three beautiful young ( 30s?) Women sit out with a sign saying Honk and we Sip.
They get honks. When I go by, I yell, " honk!" hoping that counts.
Today there were loud screams and laughs while I was going by.
I suspect they’ve had a lot of sips.
Wish they’d let me join them once.
Question- was my first sentence correct? Okay to start a sentence with Many times…?

I finished Snoopy’s Doghouse a few hours ago. There were three scene/pose options, and I went for the one with the typewriter:

It’s pretty cute! There are still four boxed sets waiting for me: I think next up might be the Shelby Cobra.

After finishing (and displaying) Snoopy, I decided to cross another thing off my to-do list: I wheeled the old/busted recycling can (which the company won’t take away, for some reason) out of my garage, around my neighbor’s end-unit and behind our houses, and into my back yard where I parked it out of the way under the deck. There’s a sliding glass door downstairs that leads to that space, but the door doesn’t open wide enough and the can wouldn’t fit through it – so, a quick trip around back it was! I also did some picture-hanging. The house is starting to feel like a home. :two_hearts:

When I had Home Depot install my storm door a couple of years ago, they subcontracted the actual work. I fully expect the same to happen this time. I also expect to have the faucet for a while before anyone can come out; it might even get delivered before Home Depot contacts me about scheduling. I will try to be patient and remind myself that progress is being made toward replacing the existing insanity.

:joy:

It’s the same Corelle dish pattern that my mother had…and the same dishes: she gave them to me when I moved into my first apartment (in '94). These things are at least 40 years old, but are still my everyday plates and bowls.

Here, too. I’m only 3 hours into my shift and I thought S.M. was gonna cry.

Our P.O.S. is tits up. All tickets handwritten (and some of us have atrocious chickenscratch) and woe be unto you if some asshole decides today’s the day to do a split payment. (Calculator time! Yay.)

Poor woman was on the phone with various unhelpful techs until we basically gave up, moved back into the Stone Age - the most tech-y guy from management came by and even he couldn’t get anything fixed - and we’re back to pen’n’paper … and sniping at each other a bit, cuz nobody’s really sure what’s going on where and of course eighty bazillion people showed up at once wanting to place large/complicated orders.

Damn thing worked fine yesterday.

Also, I just cooked FOUR AND A HALF POUNDS OF ONION RINGS in one go (an order for one pound, some psycho who needs 3 lb in their life or at least hopefully is throwing a party, and the last .5 lb order S.M. said aloud, “I’m scared to even give her this ticket.”) so now I’m sitting in my car staring at the void.

I brought cute eyeliner but it’s hot and we’re running around, and I’m just not feelin’ it right now.
